“Parking is free and plentiful here. Nice location because it’s next to other shops and close to Costco. This is a good place for a quick bite to eat, I love the spicy tuna hand rolls and the shrimp tempura. I usually do take-out but I had time to dine in today and the place was clean and comfortable. Nice that they have Jarritos available as a drink option!“
“Was going with my sister to her appointment at a near by office. She was hungry and wanted something light to eat, so sushi seemed like the perfect choice. Being our first time, we didn’t know there were no menus and it was the chef’s selection. I don’t this guy, we were walking out the door and almost left, BUT, so glad we didn’t because it was amazing! Incredibly unique and delicious food, along with an entertaining education while enjoying our meal. The owners a good guy who takes a tremendous amount of pride in what he prepares for his guests. You’ll love it!“
“It's ok. There is nothing bad but nothing extraordinary either. Just another very expensive sushi place. We had high expectations after seeing the reviews. We ordered the tasting menu but comparing to some other places who have this option, this place did not impress us. That's all we have to say.“
“Hidden away in the city of Los Angeles is this amazing bar that serves one of the tastiest omakase. Entering the bar, you see a bar top that seats approx 10-12 people, with a open kitchen vibe. My partner and I had a great time. The Sunday crew was very nice and attentive, engaging with the customers and making things fun! The selection of fish was amazing, definitely a different experience compared to other omakase establishments I've been to.Parking was very easy since they provided easy simple instructions on their website :). Will definitely visit again on a Sunday ??Parking: Easy to access garage and the elevator close by. Very nice :)“
“Okay nothing this good should be in Redondo Beach but it is? Shame on all of the other pretenders. It’s just that superb. Chef Jen scales the culinary heights of Parnassus with ease and grace. A superb experience! You have to slow down and adjust to the tempo of the space and service. You have no better place to go! Trust me!“
“First time here tonight (on a Friday) and what a cute place! Love the little wooden bridge as you enter the restaurant, cherry blossom faux tree and Japanese decor. There's even a couple of cute private dining rooms & a small outdoor eating area. Service was attentive and friendly. Shout out to Jose. Food was great! Miso Soup - Seaweed Salad - hubby said it was meh as he didn't eat much of it Black Cod - flavorful, tender & perfectly flaky Mixed Green Salad - great Truffle Salmon Carpaccio - hubby said it was good & fresh Yellowtail Jalapeño - hubby said it was good & fresh Albacore Sashimi - hubby said it was good & fresh King Salmon Sashimi - hubby said it was good & fresh Would definitely come back if in the Santa Monica area again. Oh and love the cute "wallet" the check is placed in & given to you. @travel_lifestyle_chow“
“Every dish was melt in your mouth good. Some of the best sushi I’ve had at this price point. Will definitely come back, highly recommend. The shop is a smaller spot and a bit unassuming, but the food speaks for itself. The staff were also extremely friendly, allowing us to move some tables around to meet our groups needs when they weren’t too busy. Really appreciate the visit here.“
“Amazing experience! I came here for my birthday dinner and the Tokyo omakase was to die for. One of the best meals I had in my life. The staff is very attentive and has great recommendations for which sake to order, you can tell that they really care about the dining experience. Each course was fresh and delicious and really highlighted the best flavors. I have never enjoyed uni before, but here it was absolutely delicious. I can't wait to be back next time I have something to celebrate.“
“This is a fairly new location for this restaurant. They have another established location in Santa Monica. This location is in Marina Del Rey right off Washington and Lincoln. Their food and service is excellent. This place is a hidden jewel.“
“My go-to place for sushi when I happen to be in LA. There are no reservations, so you typically have to wait, but for not a lot of time. They have the right match of service people to tables and their system works well. The fish is always fresh and the tip is a flat rate on the bill at 16%. It’s a pretty small place, so probably not good for groups larger than 6 or with picky eaters (this is a sushi restaurant and doesn’t have too much else). The only ding is the their app sometimes calls you for your table too early and you have to wait in the restaurant before they call you back up.“
“Ordered for takeout via the website during my lunch break-- the portions are huge for the price and great quality! Pickup was fast and efficient. The steps are a cute area to get some sun amidst the workday. Check it out if you work in the area and are looking for something different than the usual!!!“
“Since this place is doing only take out at the moment, truly excellent take-out experience. I have never seen omakase that doing take out as phenomenal. Everything was incredibly thoughtful and of the best quality I ever had. Especially, this place will serve you takeout as dining plates.“
“Where do I even start. I rarely go on Yelp and give reviews, but after going to this place multiple times, I must share the hard work this restaurant puts out. This is truly a gem in Playa Del Rey. Everything about this place is just amazing. It's a small and intimate spot close to the water and has the softest sushi out there. Every bite the fish melts in your mouth and just shows you how good simple and good ingredients can get. I've tried multiple places looking for good sushi but nothing compares. I will say, it is a bit pricey but 100% worth it. The service may be a little slow at times but you gotta give the staff a break when they are working so hard. They are all so polite and make sure you're table is always clean.“
“First time visiting and we had the omakase. The staff welcomed us like they have known us for years as soon as we walked in. The service throughout the omakase was amazing and the sushi was the best weve had since visiting Japan! Toshisan is passionate and friendly. Cant wait to go back asap! I wish I could keep Toshi Sushi to myself and not tell anyone about it, but they deserve to be successful so I chose to write this review. We are incredibly lucky to have sushi of this quality, at s reasonable price, and in Gardena no less. If you're reading this, dont think about it any longer and just go.“
“Our children sent us off to this dinner date while they were out of town. What a great gift. We had a cold sake with melon notes and their homemade yuzu soda to go with their excellent nigiri omakase. We ordered repeats of the sawara, kawahagi and toro taku and also ordered anago on top of the omakase. We normally don't enjoy the tamagoyaki but their castella style tamagoyaki was so good. This nigiri omakase was the perfect amount but would like to try their signature omakase in the future.“
“My boyfriend and I got the omakase but to be honest it was not worth it, the food tasted great but you can get almost the exact same course by ordering the 10 piece nigiri from the menu for half of the price. The atmosphere is nice but not appropriate for a traditional omakase. Highly recommend, just save your money and skip out on the omakase.“
“Chef is from Osaka Japan, he made great shari (slightly sweeter side as compared to Tokyo edomae purist style), nonetheless it was good texture, temperature. Most of fish from Japan. Kinmedai was excellent. So was Aji from Osaka. Tuna is from Hokkaido, taste similar to Ohma tuna, but slightly difficult. Chef knows edomae style and textures of fish, either natural or farm raised. Hope he carries more like Awabi, akagai, kohada, and more hikarimono next time. It was pleasant sushi dining experience.“
“Met with a long time college friend here for lunch and it did not disappoint! The food was amazing, the mala taboki was my favorite. My friend and I shared 6 Yubu, sushi roll, and a hand roll to go. Staff was very friendly and we were told our food will take 10-15 mins to prepare due to the delicate and meticulous nature of preparation and honestly didn't mind. Can't rush good quality meal! Space had ample parking, spacious and even accommodate wheelchair accessibility. You can tell the chef and team put a lot of of care into their food but also making sure all parties feel welcome King Yubu, the official King of LA“
“I recently dined at this sushi restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. The freshness of the fish was outstanding, and each roll showcased a perfect balance of flavors. The presentation was artful, and the attentive staff added to the overall enjoyable dining experience. I highly recommend trying their signature rolls – a delightful fusion of traditional and creative elements. A top-notch spot for sushi enthusiasts!“
“For the price it’s a 10/10 meal!!Service: 10/10Note: make sure to put ur name on wait listWhat I ordered:Scallop sashimi - 10/10, fresh, vibrant flavours.Nigiri sampler- 9/10 very fresh and good quality fish. A little too much rice for me.Burnt garlic ramen- 8/10 I’m more traditional in my flavours. But it’s peoples favourite.Tuna crispy rice 10/10. Can’t complain“
“Great service! The lady at the register is so sweet with everyone who walks in the door. The sushi was fresh and priced reasonably. My favorite was the Tiger Roll. This place is more for takeout, they have a small seating area but no table service. Order at the register and pick up your order. I only knocked down one star for the wait time. I was told 20mins and it was more like 45mins. They seem really busy so I'd recommend to call ahead or expect to wait. Also, there is a 3.95% card fee if using a credit card so I paid with cash. I'll definitely return.“
“Went back to back days because of the food was so good. The service was impeccable as well as the drinks. The lovely hostess was able to seat me despite it being super packed and I did not have a reservation. Definitely a revisit when in LA!“
“An excellent and authentic experience for sushi in the style you would see in Japan. Signs at the entrance set expectations (no teriyaki, no tempura, no noodles) to avoid disappointment from people looking for a more standard Americanized Japanese dining experience. No spicy mayonnaise, sweet eel sauce basted rolls here (though those do have their moment elsewhere in Little Tokyo). Nigirizushi and sashimi dominate the menu with mostly bar seating. 3-4 sushi chefs manage sections of the bar and will freshly prepare sushi from breaking down the fish to putting it on your platter. Ambiance and service are to Japanese tastes. The waitlist is based around having a name on a written list and waiting for your name to be called. No electronic contact or list monitoring. Arrive at opening or be prepared to wait. Prices are standard for this quality of sushi which is to say that the meal will be a special occasion.“
“This was my first time here. They ask you to remove shoes and you sit on the floor.Food was great. We ordered the following items:1. Garlic edamame2. Miso soup3. seaweed salad4. House salad5. Salmon Blue crab - loved it as well6. toro trio - delish!!!7. Black truffle salmon - it was decent8. Sashimi CarpaccioDefinitely recommend this spot.Parking: It could take some time to find parking.“
“We came for the famous $23 lunch special and we’re not disappointed! The fish is extremely fresh and the portion of fish, rice, and appetizers was good for lunch. We also got the sushi deluxe combination to split. The sashimi lunch special was the best value item!Come early to wait! We got in line around 10:20 on a Tuesday morning and got in with the first group to be seated (they open at 11 and the line is pretty long by 10:30. We found out that the a la carte menu is only served at the bar so if you want to to order off the normal menu, make sure you grab a table instead of sitting at the bar.“
“Service excellent. Ambiance very geared toward focusing on the food. Overall a great experience with a high level of quality. Our highlight unexpectedly was the Hokkaido sardines. My SO and I literally stopped and stared at each other mid-chew, astonished at how good it was. Initially they thought something was wrong after seeing us freeze, but they then realized we were just stunned from how good the dishes were.“
“Shunji Japanese Cuisine located near Santa MonicaRun by husband and wife Shunii, both very talkative. They almost kept interacting with the guests throughout the dinner. VerykindThe Omakase set meal price is 280$/per. There are 26 noodles in total on the day.Tao is the most filling omakase I have ever eaten. Even the chef said itIndeed, I had a lot of courses that day, usually about 22 courses, and the price/performance ratio was super high!My favorite is tomato tofu and cod liver toast (Picture 56)Shirako sushi is also very specialThe other two performances were also on par. However, I may have eaten too much at the beginning and was a little tired and full at the end, which made the impression of desserts mediocre.I still love this place and will visit again.Next door, there is Shunji's apprentice Miki's omakase room. I heard that the styles and tastes are different, so you can try it out!Shunji Japanese Cuisine located near Santa MonicaRun by husband and wife Shunii, both very talkative. They almost kept interacting with the guests throughout the dinner. “OMG, everything there - just perfect! There wasn't a single thing here that I didn't like. From the pizza, to two different pasta dishes, to all of the sushi, slider, and bang bang broccoli - it's mouthwatering! Loved the dragon roll, crispy rice, and basically anything with unagi is absolutely fantastic. Wasn't super thrilled with the orange wine (I think that's what it was?) but the house white was good! This place is a total vibe, for a sexy little vegan dinner date night! Service is incredible, everyone is nice and attentive, and quick with delivery and clearing out plates. Music selection was great. Overall, loved loved loved it! Recommend to everyone and a place I'll definitely be coming back to!“
“Great food and beautiful interior! The best plant based place I have ever tried. The flavors are amazing and they have something for everyone. Def a must try. Service was good and attentive. The food is very creative and plated beautifully. And again the interior design is worth a visit all on its own.“
“A 100% recommendation! The service recommended a perfect selection of traditional and special sushi with a very high quality. Taste and look of the rolls were amazing! Also the service was very friendly and incredibly warm hearted. Our personal highlight was the tempura fried ice cream.Thank you for this wonderful evening!“
“Can't believe this has been around the corner for years and we didn't know. Neighborhood spot, quirky but unpretentious, friendly waiter Daniel and the food was great. Fish was all quality, the karaage was flavorful, and the shrimp tempura in the bento set came out of left field as some of the best I've had between sawtelle and gardena/torrance. Have not been when it's slammed, but this will easily replace our go to's in Manhattan Beach.“
“Every single bite was delicious. Great service with well thought sequences of dishes. Interior was clean and woody. Reminds me of traditional sushi restaurant in Japan. Dishes and glassware were cute and were hand picked by chef's wife. Must try!“
“This is probably the most popular place to get your lunch at from students and faculty at El Camino College. Every meeting I'm at around lunch time I see someone eating from Mr. H. I really love their spamasubi and their miso soup. It reminds me of my high school days when people would sell spamasubi from their backpacks. The place has a few tables and chairs to sit on if you are looking to dine in or wait for your food. Cool thing about their service too is they have a buzzer for when your food is ready. Sometimes it takes a little long to get the food to come out but it's always hot and ready to eat when they do.“
“We sat at the communal table and enjoyed looking at the aesthetically pleasing feasts our neighbors ordered! We shared a bento box with fresh sashimi, crispy tempura, and warm side meats served with colorful condiments. Once we placed our name on the waitlist, we enjoyed a stroll until our number was called. The portions are generous, and the atmosphere is friendly, both from guests and servers. Next time, we will order the soups and noodle combinations.“
“Always a pleasure. The hand rolls are simple yet delicious. In terms of freshness, the fish didn't blow me away, but the overall quality of the rolls is high. It was about $28 for 5 hand rolls, and I felt like I needed one more to be satisfied. They have several locations and I will definitely be returning.“
“I always wanted to try Omakase and was in LA for the day. I had the lunch special and it was unbelievable. I have been eating sushi since the early 90s and this was by far, the best I have ever had. I would highly recommend trying this place.“
“We had the last table in the back and the noise level was great! If you sit in the front you might get a bit higher noise level. Service was super friendly and checked in with us multiple times but not being annoying. The food is amazing! Haven't had fantastic Shusi in a long time! Price is absolutely reasonable for that quality of food. We been 2 patrons and paid $191 for so much food that we actually have been over eaten lol. We just couldn't stop. Only thing - it was cold not sure if other doors have been open somewhere but that was a bit uncomfortable but not dramatically.“
“Amazing selection and loved the service. Waitress was working hard waiting tables herself for the most part with some help from the back. Comes in 3 diff price tiers and we got the one with sashimi and boy was it worth it. No alcohol license right now but we still had a great time. Free parking for 2 hours and menu doesn't include beverages other than water or dessert! Ambience is sitting around other people, nothing secluded. If come again because the fish is“
“it's worth seeking out Kurisaki, probably the best sushi we've had in LA, at least since the 90s when we used to go out to San Bernadino. There's a lot of choice here, delicacies you won't find on menus you might put some blind faith on... The service is super friendly. Next time in LA we will be back.“
“Pretty good, you can get a decent variety for a more affordable price with the set menus (5, 6 piece). We got the Nozie, you can ask the server what it includes because it might vary, but ours included eel, yamaimo, uni, salmon, and a couple of others. They were all solid, my one critique would be that there could be more of the fillings to really get more of a taste of them. The rice and seaweed were great, they make each hand roll fresh after you eat the previous one so the seaweed doesn't get soggy which is really considerate for a consistent experience.“
“Best omakase for the value in South Bay. Owned by a Japanese husband and wife duo in a strip mall corner. Parking has always been available every time we’ve been here, and we’ve came over 6+ times now. Go often and keep them in business for years to come!“
“I recently dined at this exceptional sushi restaurant, and it exceeded all expectations. The quality of the fish was impeccable, and each dish was a masterpiece of flavors. The ambiance was perfect for a relaxing meal, and the staff was attentive and knowledgeable. From the presentation to the taste, every aspect of the dining experience was top-notch. I highly recommend this place to any sushi enthusiast - a true gem in the world of Japanese cuisine!“
“What great little discovery! My wife and I were exploring DTLA on a sleepy rainy Sunday and happened upon this great sushi restaurant off of Santa Fe Ave in Downtown LA. The sign from the street read, “Happy Hour 3-6pm daily!”We stopped in to get the Mrs some tasty sushi.Kombu Sushi was a cozy bright fantastic surprise!Great fresh fish, chill atmosphere, and excellent service! We were given seared yellowtail sushi as well as lynchee mochi ice cream. They were so nice.We will definitely be back soon!“
“While strolling down the street, my partner and I stumbled upon a picturesque green oasis, adorned with lush trees and verdant bushes. The exquisite design captivated us, prompting a spontaneous decision to pause and indulge in a delightful lunch. Every dish we savored was a culinary delight, complemented by a cozy and enchanting atmosphere that enhanced our dining experience.“
“Surprisingly really loved the crunch roll ! The shrimp on top was fried in the same seasoned batter & really added a nice taste! The pieces of sole I ordered were very thin however i think If i didn't request for them to be "fried hard" it would've been ok, so that's on me. Would def try again :)“
“Humble mom and pop sushi shop with yummy, fresh, made to order sushi. Best part: at supermarket prices! They have to compete with the likes of Nijiya, Tokyo Central, and Mitsuwa nearby, so they have brought their A game. Bonus: the interior decor is a must for any baseball fan! No interior dining yet since Covid, so don't be late to your potluck with your mom and pop sushi! Let the adorable sushi clock lead you“
“The place is busy, like busy busy but don't let the looks fool you. We saw that it was packed, but only had to wait 15 mins. They move tables quickly and people don't linger too too long. The staff was super friendly and the food comes out quickly. It's a popular place for a reason. We ordered several things and split it between two people. I thought it was just enough and only paid about $40 a person which I thought was super reasonable considering we got to try a few different things. The sushi tasted fresh and the crispy tuna was really good. Super crispy and topped with spicy tuna on top. The salmon might have been my favorite of the bunch but the different rolls were solid and even the albacore hit the spot. There wasn't anything we didn't like and there's so much to choose from. It's really hard to pick but I think we nailed it. We'll definitely be back to try more things. The Westside has a ton of sushi options and if you are looking for something not super authentic and more Americanized I'd suggest this spot. That's not a bad thing, it's just a different style that's tasty in its own right.“
“I always wanted to try Omakase and was in LA for the day. I had the lunch special and it was unbelievable. I have been eating sushi since the early 90s and this was by far, the best I have ever had. I would highly recommend trying this place.“
“Service was great with attentive server and bringing out dishes. The lunch omakase was by far the better one compared to the dinner set. Fun interactive experience for the lunch omakase with different dipping salts, and making your own sushi with rice, seaweed, and assorted season sashimi pieces. Dinner set was nicer in terms of presentation, but not as satisfying with the amount of food provided and cuts of fish offered. Great place to try though for lunch if you're a fan of aesthetic and sushi!“
“Decor is pretty basic, but the food's really good. I had a tender, delicious octopus dish (and we all know how rubbery poorly prepared octopus can be!) with a flavorful sauce. My family each had a different dish, and everyone was happy with the shrimp, the fish filet and the side dishes. Not fancy, but satisfying and tasty.“
