“Old school nostalgia in a box. Take out and cash only, phone orders preferred. Lucky i went on a weekday on my last trip to Gardena and ordered up a 10 piece sushi box with the popular items walking up, the lady at the counter handpicked them for me ?No joke, this family owned business has been around since 1962. The California roll is straight bussin. Fresh avos and real shrimp used. Dunno how much longer theyll be around but im happy i got to eat here again 5 stars?Parking: Parking on street or in the back of the building.“

“This is a fairly new location for this restaurant. They have another established location in Santa Monica. This location is in Marina Del Rey right off Washington and Lincoln. Their food and service is excellent. This place is a hidden jewel.“

“This place is well deserving of 5 stars, came here randomly with my wife, ordered a bunch of stuff off the menu and it was all fantastic. Server was friendly and helpful. Salmon belly and spicy tuna tataki are definitely a must but you really can’t go wrong here! Thanks for a great experience!Parking: Got here early Saturday afternoon and there was plenty of spots in their parking lot!Kid-friendliness: I don’t have a kid but I saw some kids here!“

“Where do I even start. I rarely go on Yelp and give reviews, but after going to this place multiple times, I must share the hard work this restaurant puts out. This is truly a gem in Playa Del Rey. Everything about this place is just amazing. It's a small and intimate spot close to the water and has the softest sushi out there. Every bite the fish melts in your mouth and just shows you how good simple and good ingredients can get. I've tried multiple places looking for good sushi but nothing compares. I will say, it is a bit pricey but 100% worth it. The service may be a little slow at times but you gotta give the staff a break when they are working so hard. They are all so polite and make sure you're table is always clean.“

“We do recommend using the yelp waitlist for this restaurant. This allowed us to get seated immediately. The service food and vibes are all well here!We got a total of 4 things:Jalapeño Bombs- great appetizers although some pieces were spicier than others.Lomita Roll- this was our favorite roll, it had a good mix of crunch and soft on the roll.King Kong Roll - this one was also good but lots of creamy texture, if you don’t like creamy texture I would recommend another rollCali Tempura Roll- this one was a safe bet roll and really good to get!All this and glass of water + sprite came out to $60~ which isn’t bad for pretty great sushi!“

“I recently dined at this sushi restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. The freshness of the fish was outstanding, and each roll showcased a perfect balance of flavors. The presentation was artful, and the attentive staff added to the overall enjoyable dining experience. I highly recommend trying their signature rolls – a delightful fusion of traditional and creative elements. A top-notch spot for sushi enthusiasts!“

“Best omakase for the value in South Bay. Owned by a Japanese husband and wife duo in a strip mall corner. Parking has always been available every time we’ve been here, and we’ve came over 6+ times now. Go often and keep them in business for years to come!“

“a local favorite in the south bay and el segundo, saloon osaka is a great japanese sushi/izakaya spot thats serves great quality ingredients as well as wonderful portions for the price!came on a quiet weekday night and they only have a few patrons and couple of regulars. it felt homey and casual with good vibes. my go to is always a chirashi bowl because i like variety without having to make decisions and was pleasantly surprised!chirashi bowl ($36.5) | 4.2/5the bowl came with four types of sashimi, ikura, tamago and scallop. all the sashimi were thickly cut and they definitely dont skimp on the portion sizes. love this for the freshness and value, especially at a dinner price. 3 sakana roll ($31.95) | 4.2/5they have different hand roll combos that allow you to pick from premium or regular rolls. we picked the toro, salmon, and yellow tail rolls. great fish to rice ratio with crispy nori and avocado to top it off. they were deceptively filling as well! chicken karage ($13.7) | 3.9/5crispy karage with a slightly less potato starchy batter. not my prefered coating batter but juicy nonetheless. it came with a tasty tangy aioli which i liked alot. overall a great solid value sushi pick! they serve great staples and i love the cozy yet lively vibes the restaurant offers. complimentary miso soup and good service as well!saloon osaka | el segundo, ca | $$-$$$ | 4.1/5small free shared parking lot100 W Imperial Ave, El Segundo, CA 90245“

“One of fav Japanese restaurants. It's the most unique experience: You must take off your shoes (at the reception area), where the host/hostess leads you to your low tables. You must crawl down, slide your feet under the fixed tables. It's reminiscent of traditional Japanese dining halls/dining rooms, of sitting on the floor.Yes, the experience is really cool and unique, but the food and the service is excellent. Good quality, with a slightly higher price, is to be expected. The miso black cod is always cooked perfectly. Good portions.“

“Excellent quality sushi. I usually do the to-go so that it comes with the cute sushi boxes and it's always a fun experience. The sushi is great quality and fresh. The rice is always the perfect temperature and texture. I did not find any free parking when I came here so I recommend coming with someone to get dropped off to run in and pick up the food!“

“First time visiting and we had the omakase. The staff welcomed us like they have known us for years as soon as we walked in. The service throughout the omakase was amazing and the sushi was the best weve had since visiting Japan! Toshisan is passionate and friendly. Cant wait to go back asap! I wish I could keep Toshi Sushi to myself and not tell anyone about it, but they deserve to be successful so I chose to write this review. We are incredibly lucky to have sushi of this quality, at s reasonable price, and in Gardena no less. If you're reading this, dont think about it any longer and just go.“

“Our absolute favorite sushi restaurant in South Bay by far! It's not cheap... We only go on special occasions or on our date nights. We always get their sushi omakase. Every course is SUPERB and most if not all of their fish comes from Japan. Service is always excellent, each course is timed perfectly and the fish just melts in our mouth! There's parking in the back but space is limited. Street parking always works too~ The only negative is that we miss sitting at the bar... They got rid of the bar seating during Covid and never brought it back.. LAst time we visited, they said they weren't bringing it back..“

“We have been coming here for years it’s probably the only place that has not changed in this shopping center… the location is kind of hidden but the food there is good and the servers are the BEST, they are so accommodating!!!!! You will see they have some combos and if I am in the mood for a different side instead of white rice with my favorite chicken Saltado they will put whatever I ask for. They can mix and match for me I love them so much! The saltado is my go to. I don’t really get sushi there but I see a lot of people getting it and they say it’s always fresh :) I do love the ceviche it’s a fusion ceviche not your normal ceviche… try it. 100 stars for their service! Look at the size of this fried beef cutlet it’s literally too big for the plate and hanging off and this is a normal dinner plate it’s HUGE!!!!! I asked for a side of fried rice with it this will last me 3 meals I have an air frier so I can refry and make it crisp again at home. This is really good with any of their spicy sauces but I am weird I like it with soy sauce. Lol“

“The food here is great! My mother said it reminded her of her time living in Japan. The warm and attentive service and delicious food made this restaurant one of the happiest things about our vacation in LA. The only drawback is that there are always little bugs flying around and I keep waving my hands to avoid them landing on my food.“

“A small family run izakaya tucked into the far end corner of a strip of restaurants. Easy to overlook if one drives by too quickly. Run by an older couple, it has a very cosy atmosphere with authentic izakaya style tapas. The seabream and kohada was very fresh the day we went, the tuna was prepped well. The sashimi was properly cut and everything was exquisitely prepared by the owner chef.“

“We've been going here for about 3 yeas. Friday date night, it's close to home and the sushi is A grade. Service is A grade. The only problem I have is the Sushi Chef, whom I assume is the boss. Not the friendliest to us but seems to extend his friendly vibes to "others". we come there often enough that the servers recognize us, yet the sushi chef barely if at all speaks to us.Parking: It's in a strip mall with several restaurants and a grocery store, so parking is plentiful.Kid-friendliness: We see families there all the time. Kids seem to enjoy it.“

“This hole-in-the-wall sushi spot has so much character and definitely deserves 5 stars. All the indoor seats are at the bar, making it a more intimate experience, which I liked. Signs are posted all around teaching you about the chef, the sushi, the tea. I loved it! The miso soup was great and we were big fans of the brown rice sushi - it had a great texture. Glad we chose this spot for our date night!“

“This is a very good place for high-quality sushi in Santa Monica. We would recommend the sea bass, salmon, and blue fin sushi. If you want an alternative, the chicken on a skewer is tasty. The sushi can vary in price. Our three items cost $10.50, $13 and $16. So this is not inexpensive. But the sushi was very good. We dined on a Monday night, and the place was very quiet. Our waitress was courteous and attentive. The place has a nice ambience. And there is paid street parking nearby.“

“My daughter selected this place and it's a new favorite. Fansea is a sweet little spot with a great vibe, awesome menu and delicious sushi. Their handroll was terrifically unique in a very thin rice paper which made a fat nori hand roll seem kind of clunky by comparison. It let the blue crab shine. Nice beverage list, beautiful, understated interior with a view of the ocean down the hill. Service was perfect. We topped it off at Manhattan Beach Creamery. Dark chocolate-dipped banana pushed the outing right over the top. Can't wait to repeat the whole affair. We'll be back soon!“

“The food and drink here is SO GOOD!!Yuzu Drop mixed drink is better than any lemon drop I have ever had. Cocktails/martinis in general are my favorite and I’m not used to sushi restaurants (high quality ones) having cocktails! I’m so happy I found this place.I recommend everything my husband and I ordered:Edamame, crispy rice spicy tuna, Salmon nigiri, albacore nigiri, salmon sashimi, and the spider roll. My favorite restaurant is Sugarfish. Sushi Bei has great quality edamame, sashimi and nigiri, plus some added things like crispy rice and cocktails!“

“OH WE WENT IN AT THIS PLACE! The wait was not long at all. Service was good, staff was attentive. My daughter just started getting into hand rolls & she said this is her new fave spot for them! My favorite roll had to be the bluefin bombshell! I'd go back for that alone! My bestie had Sapporo & it paired nicely with the rolls. The nigiri quality was quite good too, not my favorite but still good. The place isn't too big, but it's cute for an intimate lunch or dinner.“

“I have been coming here monthly for the past three years and there's a reason I make the extra effort to come here frequently. The quality of fish supersedes other omakase joints, and the staff and chef are always a joy to be around. You must make a reservation in advance. Bar seating is more preferred as it's a more intimate experience with the fish and the chef. Three years have passed since my first experience here, and in each corresponding experience after the quality of food and service has stayed consistent. Come here for an unpretentious omakase experience where the staff welcome you as family.“

“Sushi Island is a great place to eat at! Most of the time, I order takeout and I usually get the same thing every time. I order a combination plate with Japanese style meatballs and sesame chicken. I definitely recommend eating here if you haven't tried it yet. :-)“

“Always a pleasure. The hand rolls are simple yet delicious. In terms of freshness, the fish didn't blow me away, but the overall quality of the rolls is high. “Humble mom and pop sushi shop with yummy, fresh, made to order sushi. Best part: at supermarket prices! They have to compete with the likes of Nijiya, Tokyo Central, and Mitsuwa nearby, so they have brought their A game. Bonus: the interior decor is a must for any baseball fan! No interior dining yet since Covid, so don't be late to your potluck with your mom and pop sushi! Let the adorable sushi clock lead you“
“Before heading back to the SGV after a morning appointment in Torrance, we decided to stop and pick up some Sushi Time to bring home for lunch. The rolls were actually quite affordable and there was a good variety of choices. They even had a poke bowl and sashimi choices. The staff welcomed us as we entered and waited patiently for us to make up our mind to place our order. We placed our order at the counter and we were told it would be ready in 10 to 15 minutes. There was some indoor seating to wait, however we chose to leave and come back. Our order was 5 rolls were ready in about 15 minutes. Quick service! We enjoyed our freshly made sushi when we got home. We now have another place that we can go to when we want sushi to bring home from the Southbay.“

“Very happy to find this little hole in the wall. Excellent food, very quick and professional service, and extremely competitive quality sushi and other dishes. Very clean and an aesthetic that reminds me of a Los Angeles that doesn't exist anymore. I know one other sushi restaurant in LA that I would recommend, and I would not say it is better, but that they are equals - Kazunori. However, Sushi Mashiko is much more welcoming. This is the best sushi restaurant in Culver City and one of the best in Los Angeles County. Simple, professional, and exceedingly excellent.“

“I have visited this restaurant many times before, and the food is so delicious that I crave it regularly. I would say it is the best Japanese izakaya-style restaurant I have ever been to. “Sushi was excellent, service was top-notch, staff was friendly. Only thing I would say knocked it down a rating was the calamari appetizer could have used a bit more flavor but I am being very picky. Still finished the whole thing! Not from the area but if I come back, I would go back here. They played electronic music, which I personally love, but can see how some folks may not like the vibe because of the music.“

“This is probably the most popular place to get your lunch at from students and faculty at El Camino College. Every meeting I'm at around lunch time I see someone eating from Mr. H. I really love their spamasubi and their miso soup. It reminds me of my high school days when people would sell spamasubi from their backpacks. The place has a few tables and chairs to sit on if you are looking to dine in or wait for your food. Cool thing about their service too is they have a buzzer for when your food is ready. Sometimes it takes a little long to get the food to come out but it's always hot and ready to eat when they do.“

“Food 5/5:Tonkatsu here has been spot on every time I visited. It's hard to get the crisp just right at home and Kagura just does a great job. The chicken or pork tonkastsu never disappoint. For $20-$25, you will feel full and appreciate the small sides that come with the dish. The yellowtail, salmon, and tuna sushi were really thick and generous, so they are definitely worth a try here too!Service 5/5:Staff is present, but not overbearing. I like how in and out they are, without the overbearing and overcompensating niceties to make you feel welcome. Discreet, direct, and fast is the type of service I like and they definitely have it here.Atmosphere 5/5:The layout is interesting, so if you're sitting out in the open and know how to hold a conversation, you'll be fine. If you want a private and enclosed space, a booth might be your best best.“

“A very authentically Japanese sushi restaurant (not a spicy Mayo and crazy roll-type establishment, to set your expectations).Warm service, sit and the bar if you like that chef attention. Many folks were chatting and sharing drinks with the chef -- it was a nice environment. Also very reasonably priced for the quality, which is increasingly rare these days. “An old style Japanese restaurant, with a pretty wide range of items: soba, udon, ramen, curry, fried dishes, sashimi, sushi, rice dishes, tempura, etc. The one thing I really don't recommend is the spicy tuna roll. Tried it twice and it was very fishy both times. Nice casual place.“

“I thought my friend was pulling my leg when we pulled up to a strip mall/grocery store parking lot for sushi. Looks (or maybe in this case, location) can be deceiving! Extremely fresh and delicious fish, with a very attentive, polite, knowledgeable staff. The omakase was the perfect amount of food. Nothing ground breaking here but I don’t think they’re trying to do anything like that. I am probably the rube, but I wish the alcohol selection was a bit more expansive.
