Restaurantji's Oakland guide: Where to find the best Mexican flavors. Savor the city's best with dishes like Super Burrito, Burritos, Quesadilla, and more.
“I love the concept of this restaurant, the atmosphere and presentation of the dishes with do many delicious flavors . We started with the chicharrones with guacamole , the chicharron was a top for me!My favorite was the beef barbacoa empanada very filling and tasty, the cucumber & brusela salad was amazing so many flavors and very fresh. We also ordered the asada tacos, I like their special take with queso, guac and grilled onion. Super cute place and bar with amazing mezcal cocktails!!“
“Went here last night after a friend found this place on Instagram, and we happened to be in town and tried it out. The atmosphere was so fun, really warm space heaters made it totally fine to sit outside at night, the inside looked super cute as well. The service was great and the food was divine. Standout dish to me was a spicy carrot appetizer, some of the most interesting and tasty food I’ve had in a while. A handful of vegan options, more vegetarian options, but even though it wasn’t lengthy, those dishes were so good it was fine by me!Vegetarian options: Although it isn’t a long list of vegetarian items, I am vegan and the dishes I did was were so delicious it’s worth it if those dishes sound at all appealing to you.“
“Love these tacos, the salsas are excellent. They have fresh juices. I love the corn tortillas made by hand. Al pastor and shrimp tacos were so flavorful. My mom got the chicken taco... but said it was lacking flavor. The beans were very tasty.“
“I eat everything and did not miss meat at all at this delicious restaurant. The food is as tasty as the pictures are beautiful. I can't recommend highly enough and can't wait to go back. I'm nearby now and only wish they were open for breakfast!“
“I stepped in during my lunch break. I almost got out of line because it was moving slow, but I’m glad I didn’t. The line was there for a reason. I had the barbacoa and it reminded me of the one my aunt used to make. It was amazing! Support this place!“
“Getting anything from here is such a treat. The super burrito is massive and I usually split it with my girlfriend and still have half a burrito the next day. It’s as big as my forearm! Handmade tortillas on the tacos and the meat is seasoned and cooked perfectly, never chewy. The horchata is soo good too and they ask if you want ice, which is very nice. Even their salsas are exceptional. They used to have pickled red onions with habanero that was SO good to eat alongside but don’t offer that anymore which is a heartbreaking honestly…please bring it back!!!“
“Spectacular pastor regardless of delivery vessel - my favorite happens to be their decadent quesadilla, but you really can’t go wrong with any selection. Warm friendly and efficient service coupled with elite expertly prepared pastor amidst a hyper-authentic vibe.“
“Flavor wise, always excellent. With inflation though, the prices keep rising and the churros are getting smaller for sure. I've been coming since I was a kid and was shocked at the size this last time. Still love this place though. There are other carts as well nearby, but I like this place. They take cash & card.“
“I have lived in Oakland for 20 years and honestly, I have seen the reviews years back and always had it in the back of my mind to check them out since they were close. However, I never got the chance because I would always forget. However, last week, my daughter wanted churros, so I made the decision to finally try it out. OMG!!! Probably not the best idea because now we are addicted!! They were fresh and hot. My oldest decided to try the caramel filled one while my youngest and I got the plain. Well, they were crispy on the outside and soft and doughy in the middle. It was sooooooo good, we went back the next day and got more. Yikes!! I would have taken a picture but they never seem to last long enough for us to take a picture. Our first experience with churros was at Disneyland years ago and we fell in love but throughout the years, the quality at Disney started to decline and the price increased, and I wasn't a fan anymore. So, in my eyes, these churros here is IT!!!! Price isn't bad. $1.50 for each plain and $2 for ones with filling. However, I will note that the churros aren't like the super long ones but I think they are still fair with the prices and honestly, two of those were more than enough for us. The whole fam is completely hooked!! Check them out when you're in da town.“
“This was the cutest little spot! I believe this is a family owned business, and both the ladies working were SO sweet! I got chicken pupusas and they were sooo good!! Probably the best I've had! Not to mention, the prices were reasonable. This is 100% my go to pupuseria now. They even had this back from lg“
“This place is a weekend go to! I like the Camaron taco most, and the Pollo tacos are really good too. I’ve tried nearly all the vegan tacos in Oakland, and this is my favorite by far.Heart and dagger is around the corner, and they let you bring in food, so that’s a nice option, or the live music at the farmer’s market Saturday afternoons.“
“incredible spot to get delicious vegan and gf food, they have great politics and everyone who works there is hot ? the food is beyond deliciousVegetarian options: always so many delicious vegan options !!Dietary restrictions: great for any dietary restrictions i am vegan and gluten free“
“So good! Came in on my lunch and had a wonderful experience. Can’t beat a homemade tortilla paired with amazing service. Unfortunately she was in the process of making her spicy salsa (just means I’ll have to come back to have some) so I didn’t get to try it, but being the sweet human she was she grilled up some chile serranos for me!If you love authentic Mexican food then this is the place to be! Will for sure be coming back.“
“On this holiday weekend traversing the Oakland hills and flatlands of Berkeley, enroute to destinations planned and discovered, this planned stop proved more credible the food reviews Tamaleria Azteca garned from the SF Chronicle. I bought six for a Jackson. Mostly a order and go venue though you could eat on the outside counter. Across is a bus stop where on this day, a bus traveler stood in the counter area making it "feel" crowded.Myself and another tamal foodie were the only other people ordering.“
“The food was very good, my partner and I stopped here before going to see a movie at the Regal Jack London and couldn't have been happier. We ordered one california burrito and split it and with the chips that come on the side it was enough food for both of us. Overall it is pretty cheap too, especially considering its location in the downtown area. Would highly recommend for a quick pickup and go or a dine in/date night.“
“Like other reviewers, we found this place unexpectedly - after an Oakland A’s baseball game, in our case. What a gem. The owner/chef is delightful, offering all standard Mexican options with no set menu. The food was fantastic. My husband’s shrimp burrito was chock full of shrimp. I’m vegan and had 2 (large!) yummy pinto bean tacos. A little Spanish will go a long way, though the owner understood most of what we said. Our meals averaged $12/person. I highly recommend and will come here again when in the area.Dietary restrictions: The Pinto beans are vegan.“
“Perfect spot for #tacotuesday ?Got the al pastor tacos and inhaled them way before it even occurred to me to get photos and post a review. They were delicious, highly recommend! Al pastor burrito was good too.Edit : ordered in a bunch of times and LOVE the Al pastor burrito. This is my go to taco spot and my faves are the fried shrimp, chorizo and Al pastor. They don’t skimp on the filling, so 3 tacos is a hearty meal. Soooo good 10/10“
“$5 parking in guarded lot a half block away due to street bipping. So sad we have come to this. Ordered vegan burrito and it was a ten. Covered outdoor tables. My friend had a different Mexican dish that they made a vegan version. All delicious and service was attentive.“
“I can't say enough good things about Low Bar! I hosted a holiday party here last night for a local professional organization, and Low Bar was the perfect venue. The staff are so thoughtful, organized, and attentive, and the food is fantastic. Low Bar is really the place to be if you want fun, casual vibes but high quality food. Their private room was perfect for a 30-person event. The price was reasonable for the high quality of food, cocktails, and service. Our guests ranged from graduate students to retirees, and folks from all walks of life remarked on how much they loved the location.Justin was our server, and he was the dream to work with. Friendly, professional, attentive-- he really made the party a success. I felt like I could just show up and Justin and the Low Bar would make everything run well.Their event manager Sam was also a joy to work with and made everything so easy. The location is perfect for public transit accessibility, and there is a parking lot across the street.Don't sleep on the churrros! The food here is amazing.“
“The food here is the best! Made with love this is as good as it gets absolutely delicious 100% AUTHENTIC MEXICAN food that stands out from the rest with excellent service, Emma has ran this business for over 40years as confirmed by a pregnant long time customer who shared that she is from the 4th generation in her family that eats here. I strongly recommend La Mexicana!!! Gracias Emma“
“Do yourself a favor and eat at Juice Joint! The menu has all your favorites accommodated by a charming inviting atmosphere! I had a burrito and I recommend that and the cheese steak fries, the sandwich options were all tempting and the cheese steak menu and the smoothies were awesome ?. The food, service, and atmosphere is fantastic!“
“Thad a fantastic experience at Alma Bar Cocina in Oakland. Their tacos are packed with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and the service is consistently warm and welcoming. The owner makes you feel like a regular. Definitely try the fish tacos and the soup both were incredibly flavorful!“
“Pulled off the freeway right after landing in Oakland and got these super seasoned tacos that hit the spot! It was midnight in a sketchy part of Oakland and parking was scarce, but the service and food was worth it. Bag came with some jalapeños but I forgot to ask for salsa and they didn't throw any in the bag. It was good and I'd definitely come back to try their burritos. They look really big and they aren't cheap but I'm sure they are good too.“
“I have been eating here for over 7 years. This place makes the quintessential wet super burrito. The flavors are straight from Mexico and it just doesn't get better than this. Every ingredient is very high quality. The toasting on the tortilla is superior. The way the sauce and cheese melts on the top is so satisfying. Prices here are fair, and there's a self-service area for limes, cilantro, and salsa.“
“Had a veggie taco and a chicken taco. My friend had the mole enchiladas. It was all good, but my standards are high for Mexican food. Would have been nice to have some salsa with the chips and guacamole. Everything needed salt. I'm not sure why I tipped 20% for just bringing food. It's very cold everywhere in the restaurant.“
“A few people in line ahead of me when arrived. My friend and I had looked at the menu and photos on Yelp ahead of time and honestly it didn't help. There were so many delicious looking items. Person at the window took my order, was super clear and precise. It took a bit of time to get our order. There were probably 6 orders ahead of ours, and it took maybe 10 minutes? It felt longer because it was cold outside lol thankfully there are tables. It wasn't loud, patrons are decently quiet. Just normal East Oakland traffic sounds. Everything I ordered was delicious. The asada and birria tacos, and the sope. Will definitely be returning to try other items. Especially the burrito. That looked real good.“
“One of the best tacos I've had... tortilla was a little crispy soo good the meat well seasoned... I was at the White Elephant sale yesterday and after doing some shopping my mother and I got a bit hungry we decided to try this taco truck and buy some tacos, it did not disappoint... whenever I come to Oakland again and I get hungry I'll be sure to look them up again...“
“These tacos were excellent. I had four tacos to try different meats and they were all super. Love the crunchiness of the tortilla, the taste of the meat, the grilled onions on the side. The truck itself looks super rundown, don't let that distract you from the goodness that is served. Grab a chair outside in the sun and scarf down some excellent food.“
“This place is the TRUTH.Everything was on point & portions are generous. The salsa rojo was spicy, smoky and savory. They cooked my tripa crispy as requested and it was delicious.Asada was perfectly seasoned and cooked too.Do not sleep on this place!“
“Very rich and cheap, they serve you in a good way ? only the very dangerous area because of the black race that goes around assaulting and stealing but we wanted to continue supporting them with black matters now they do what they want without being “
“I've been driving past this amazing kitchen on wheels for the past yr and never have I bothered to stop & look. This ain't just a taco truck, they do breakfasts, burgers & birria. What more can you ask for. Run by nice folks. I'll definitely be back.“
“Felt like I was back in the motherland (Mexico). The dark, sketchy street just adds to the atmosphere. This place takes zelle if you don't have cash. The tacos are 3 bucks a pop, and they fill them fat. Best dang taco I've had in a while.“
“I had heard about El Paisa and finally had the opportunity to try it today. Ordering and food pickup is cafeteria style and quick. If you don't want to be charged an extra dollar, bring cash. They are really generous with the meat. I ordered carne asada and birria tacos. The birria was bland but will definitely have the carne asada again on my next visit. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I understand pigeons outside around the patio seating may be unavoidable but pigeons were roaming around inside around tables and the condiment bar too so took off one star.“
“The food was very delicious and had plenty of meat ... my tacos were delicious.. the service was good and very polite ... I wasn't disappointed until I got home and had was missing my spicy pork taco.. but i wasn't shorted any tacos I just have an extra chicken taco instead .. but the food was still good I would go back but this time check my order before I leave“
“You can find the taco panzon most days at the intersection of Campbell and grand from 12:15 pm. This food truck is amazing. Really. The entire ambiance, the crew that frequents it; it is a community you want to be a part of. They have two chairs you can sit on and gulf down some tacos and be on your way. Not somewhere to sit and dine but for a quick pick me up it is highly recommended. Food quality is too notch, pickled jalapeños and zuccini and generous avocado portions with the taco orders when you ask for everything on em. Can't hype it enough! But don't expect to wine and dine, it's a food truck.“
“My goto when I go to this truck is a regular steak burrito with everything, it comes out to about $11 even with chips and salsa... and it's probably the best burrito in Oakland in terms of flavor and juiciness, you can tell they spend time to add layers of flavor and this is coming from a self proclaimed burrito connoisseur. Service is nice everyone is friendly and quick waiting times and that's great for a family owned ambiance. The best way to describe the food is comfort food, it's like a home cooked meal. They really put the time into their food and I recommend the steak burrito with everything but that's just me. This in my opinion is the best burrito in Oakland and I've tried all the known taqueria's in West Oakland, downtown Oakland, Lake Merritt area“
“Expensive but Good food and strong drinks. Tried the 3 mole and chicken mole dishes. Had the Gertrude and El Tule Margaritas. I liked the El Tule better. Fast service. The ambience is nice inside. At least on Tuesday morning there was plenty of street parking.“
“I've been here a couple of times now, and each time the food has been consistently delicious! From the tacos to the burritos and most definitely their steak fries! Everything was so flavorful, especially the steak fries. The service was also impeccable each time I've been here! It's a new gem to the community.“
“Menudo is authentic, be prepared, it does have a slight "fresh" odor. Quick service. Nice personal. Great servings for the price. I will definitely come back, looks like this is a popular place too. BTW, not fancy place, don't dress up...“
“I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE...THEY MAKE THE BEST BALIADASLAS MEJORES BALIADASTHEY MAKE ANYTHING THAT I ASK THEM TO, I DO HAVE WEIRD CRAVINGS AND CAN NEVER MAKE UP MY MIND SO THEY LISTEN TO MY CRAZINESS AND THEN PUT TOGETHER WHAT I ASK FOR... I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR SURE!!! ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT! AND I EAT HERE AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK UP TO THREE TIMES A WEEK!!Parking: Plenty of free off the street parking here in a parking lot.“
“The Burrito shop has become one of my go-tos for tasty burritos that don't leave you feeling like you just ate a burrito. The ingredients are always fresh, and taste great. I always order the Steak and Mixed Veggies. and my Fiancé always gets the Garlic Lime and Shrimp. Both are very flavorful, but don't leave you feeling too full and sleepy. The ladies at the shop are always very friendly and make a tasty and healthy Burrito!“
“I've had almost everything off their menu. Their food is really good. I love how their beans aren't cooked with lard so they're allergy friendly as well! You ask them whatever you would like and they will accommodate you! Although they're located inside the parking lot of blunts and more they deserve more recognition in my opinion.“
“This is by far, in my opinion, the best taco truck in Oakland. I ordered two regular asada burritos, which come with cheese and sour cream, for me and bro. As always, there were a bunch of others ordering their food as well, but the wait wasn’t bad at all. The area isn’t the best, but I’ve been coming here for decades and have never had any issues. Don’t cheat yourself, if you haven’t had tacos or burritos from here, TRY IT TODAY!“
“I thought I'd finally check them out. Friendly people, my 2 asada taco were fine. I didn't add anything extra, so meat, onion cilantro. The corn tortillas was legit. A bit of pickled jalapeño, radish, and lime on the side. My interest now piqued, I'll try their enchiladas next. So far, I like.“
“Never ate here previously but decided to order Door Dash. I honestly expected the worst but I was mistaken!! My Surf & Turf burrito with added chicken & shrimp was !!!! I also had the homemade chips (tooo greasy & added to the bag straight out of the oil is not cool) which came in a grease filled paper bag but they were delicious with my rice & beans ( once I got it home & seasoned it). Definitely coming back!Suggestion: Drain your chips prior to put them in a bag for Your Customers & season the Rice & Beans! They are currently too bland!“
“Spoke with the owners children they are true Oaklanders! I told them I would give this place a try. I went in and the place is very nice. It's in International Blvd right in the heart of Oakland. Ordered the burrito and it was very very good! The BEST thing I ate here were the hand cut tortilla chips and the hot salsa was delicious and spicy! The daughter who is a culinary trained chef as well as her husband, told me about her carrot cake. So I had to give it a try she warned me that it came with pineapple, I tried it and couldn't taste the pineapple it was a good carrot cake very moist. Dad is proud to serve Loard's Ice Cream here and it is prominently displayed. Dad and mom are very nice people and I can't wait to want another "Oakland" Burrito...I'll be back here“
“(Translated by Google) The best tacos that I tried just that they almost gave me a bullet but with everything and fright they were fine perrones(Original)Los tacos mas buenos q provado nomas q casi me dan un balazo pero con todo y susto estavan bien perrones“
“Best tortas ahogadas north of Jalisco. Eating The tortas and tacos takes you back and the atmosphere definitely adds to the nostalgia. If you’ve never experienced it in Guadalajara then this place is the next best thing. The owners are from Guadalajara and the taste shows it.“
“You could drive by this place for years and not know they serve one of the best birrias in the bay area. The closest thing you can find to Jalisco/Guadalajara. I love the complimentary bean tacos. I get chivo but they also have borrego on weekends. Ask for your cosume rojo or con salsita.“
“Dear Taquerowhen my husband ordered my chicken burrito, light rice, extra cheese, sour cream, no onion, extra cilantro you made a face. . .when he apologized, you said, "no problem, everyone likes their burrito how they like their burrito." you then proceeded to make one of the top 5 burritos of my life. It was perfectionion! thank you, dearest Taquero, for putting your ideals aside and making my dream burrito. you're a real one!!btw, of you live in Oakland and have never been to Taqueria El Paisa just go. . . it is one of the best in all of Oakland.“
