“Visited this local Lao spot on a friend’s recommendation and wow, it didn’t disappoint! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was cozy and welcoming - exactly what you’d want from a neighborhood gem. The service was on point too; our server was super friendly, gave us great recommendations, and really knew their stuff. Now, let’s talk food because that’s the real star here. I went for the Pad Kee Mao, and it was absolutely delicious - spicy, flavorful, and just packed with all the good stuff. But the unexpected highlight? Their oysters! Affordable, fresh, and just so tasty, they were a total game-changer for me. It’s not often you find such quality at those prices.Overall, this place is a must-visit if you’re in the mood for some authentic Lao cuisine or just in search of a solid dining experience. Great food, great prices, and great service. I’ll definitely be back!“

“I came across Doodlecakes in an Alameda Facebook group post, and I'm so glad I did! I asked Rebekah for a custom Skyline Chili cake for my friend's birthday, and was amazed to see she achieved EXACTLY what I was imagining! My friend was blown away when they saw it :)There were many tempting flavors for a custom cake! After hearing recommendations from Rebekah about what would work best for the design (she clearly knows what she's doing), I ordered a vanilla cake with a mix of vanilla/cream cheese frosting, and whipped cream filling with fresh strawberries and blueberries. The cake was absolutely delicious--everyone at the party raved about how it was moist with the perfect level of sweetness.Doodlecakes was very communicative about the delivery as well! I was texted about any delays, and called to ensure the cake made it to me safely after I asked a housemate to receive it for me.All in all, it was easy and a pleasure to work with Doodlecakes on a custom order. I paid $110 for my 6" custom cake + delivery + tax, and it was well worth it! I'll definitely be coming back to Doodlecakes and sending my friends their way for any custom cake needs :)“

“I enjoy Boathouse and the small town vibes it gives. There is a chill atmosphere, they have good drinks and attentive bartenders (Janet + Christian). The only downside is that I don't enjoy when there is that guitar guy there randomly strumming songs in the background. They turn all of the music off and it makes it low key uncomfortable and really puts the vibe in an odd place. The guitar guy doesn't sing, he doesn't play entire songs and he doesn't even play songs that are fun/exciting/good bar vibes. This is an entirely too huge downfall because atmosphere and music in a bar play an insurmountable part in the success and continuity of business. I actually left when the man started playing his guitar again because it was honestly really odd and just put the whole mood. I will definitely return and I sincerely hope that I don't accidentally come on another night where this random man is playing his guitar at random parts of the night. I would literally walk out again if that happened haha. No hate to guitar man it's just weird that they shut off the entire bar music to let this dude strum his guitar in background. Also the kitchen was closed but they served select folks in the bar, which I was not one of and I was hungry. Hopefully they standardize the rules and entertainment. Cheers!!“

“It's a VIBE...If you want a VIBE!! It's a VIBE in this beautiful black owned winery! The sad part is that I didn't even know this placed existed in the heart of the Bay Area (Alameda). I was asked to join my partner in celebrating a friend of his birthday and wahla, this is where we landed. There was a live singer (and boy could he sing his a$$ off), lots of people, wine flight options and more. The ambiance is so culturally beautiful, I just couldn't stop looking around. I would love to go back with some of my girl-friends and check it out for ourselves. I didn't get an opportunity to take any pictures (sad face) so I do apologize for that. Ice Cream Flavor

“Came here with a friend who knows that I like trying out unique flavors. This little discreet ice cream shop nestled in Alameda was small but had a lot to offer. They had super interesting flavors : match Oreo, animal cookie, pandan coconut, Dan tat (!), calamansi, durian and more. I have tried many Asian flavored ice creams, but find most of them are lacking in flavor or leaning more on vanilla or creamy tones to make them more palatable for folks unfamiliar with them. I, however, want my ice cream to taste exactly like Durian or Ube if that's how it is labeled, not a toned down version. This place delivers on that because you're getting exactly what you imagined with no punches pulled. The Dan tat (egg tart) flavor especially blew my mind because I have not ever seen this flavor offered before, it's one of my favorite nostalgic treats from childhood and it tasted exactly like an egg tart. I did end up getting matcha Oreo instead because I was in the mood for something not too sweet and the authentic bitterness in the matcha was the perfect solution. My friend got the animal cookie and it was a perfect rendition of the cookie itself. The workers were nice and tolerant of us trying out a few different samples which is how I know everything was super flavorful. My only critique is that the size of the scoop and quality of the ice cream itself could be improved a notch, but I'm used to Gunther's in sacramento so it's hard to compare.“

“I've had this place bookmarked for 3 months and finally got the chance to go. After reading reviews, I went early and started lining up at 11:40am and there was already ~20 parties ahead of us. Once they opened, someone came out with brisket samples. It took about an hour til we were ordering. I've never had Texas BBQ so I can't compare but the meats were so good!! The brisket was fatty, smoky, and well seasoned. The beef back ribs were a little smokier also delicious. The bbq sauce and pickled onions made for the perfect bite, along with the sides. The nasi goreng was a pretty standard fried rice that paired with the meat but I wouldn't get it again. The slaw is refreshing and was very peanutty but I wish it was a little more acidic. The rendang plate was a miss for me. The brisket was very dry and it was too smoky for my liking for a curry. I LOVED the kale curry side in the plate though. I don't like kale but I would eat it all the time if it was always cooked like this lol. I suggest getting the belado plate to try a different meat. I would definitely come back and wait an hour again and try the rest of their menu. :)“

“Went to Firebrand Artisan Breads's Alameda location recently, which is always a great excuse to eat more pastries! ? Seating inside is kind of awkward, as it's positioned around the ordering line, but there's also an outside patio. Be sure to bring a sweater, though, because you never know how much of a breeze is going to kick up on that end of Alameda. My friend went for the BLT, made on Firebrand bread, of course! I opted for the spicy chicken sandwich, and it was fantastic! So flavorful without going over my spice limit. The dressing for the side salads was quite nice as well, though I do prefer when a salad is more than just lettuce.Of course, there's also those pretty pastries! I split them with Ben later on. My favorite was probably the espresso buckwheat chocolate chip cookie, which had the right amount of bitterness for me to combine with the sweet. The matcha croissant was filled to the brim inside with a very creamy matcha sauce. Quite tasty! But you do lose the bread in the midst of that cream. The hazelnut chocolate kouign amann hit the spot, and its filling was also creamier than I expected.I'm glad Firebrand could expand to Alameda!“

The dining area was nice and open due to all the big open windows. They also have a large selection of draft beers to choose from which I like. They brew their own beer as well which I have yet to try. They have some flights they can offer. I did try a sampler of a unique beer that was 5% called 'Sarap' meaning good in Tagalog. It was on draft. It's a hint of calamansi in it. It was actually good! I will have to get that again next time. The guy at the counter was cool and friendly.Looks like they share the space with the Fikscue Craft BBQ next door as long as you buy their beers. Which we did! Prices are decent as well. “My co-worker friend arranged a coffee meetup with us four former co-workers that resided in Alameda. It was cool since I haven't seen two of them is a while. He arranged for us to meet up at 9am on a Thursday at Bad Barista, his favorite local coffee shop located at the Encinal Shopping Center, a small neighborhood strip mall. When I arrived, I remember this being the former Café Aulait. Checking out the menu board, offering consists of coffee drinks, teas, frappes, smoothies, shushes and breakfast sandwiches and bagels, square muffins and croissants. I got a large drip and was hoping their offerings would including pastries, but they only had bagels and the square muffins as they were out of croissants. They have a quaint patio in the back for you to enjoy your drinks and food. It was quiet and we were able to catch-up with our coffees. Worker was friendly.
