We've got Solana Beach's top Mexican restaurants covered for you.
“Opted for Fidel’s because it was within walking distance of where we were staying. For 3 of us: dinner plates (plus 1 Margarita) & tip was just over $100. Being from Northern CA, we knew eating out anywhere in this region was going to be costly. BUT, we were blown away by the flavor and cook of our meals. My husband had Chile Verde; done in a way we’ve never seen before - so delicious and fresh. Also had the carnitas; came in large chunks of meat with sliced onion and cilantro - perfect. Awesome flour tortillas. Our Server and all other Staff were extremely friendly and food was served rather quickly (we went for a “late” dinner at about 7:30pm).“
“I ordered the carne asada plate. It comes with rice, beans, corn tortillas, pico de gallo, and guacamole. I also ordered a carnitas taco with rice and beans. I also ordered 1 chicken street taco and some rolled crunchy chicken tacos. The food was fresh and good. You can get fountain drinks which includes horchata, Jamaica and tamarindo.“
“We had burritos and green enchiladas. I thought all of the food was good. The monster burrito was a full meal by itself. Everyone in my group was happy their meal. The staff was very helpful. I would probably come back to try something else on the menu. We felt a little rushed because of the time of day and I couldn’t fully look over the menu. Looks like a lot of other good options.“
“Just finished an amazing night at ALCE 101. The food was terrific, The drinks were outstanding and the cheesecake is off the hook. Don’t delay, get a reservation and show up for an amazing nite with the one you love. Thank you ALCE 101 ❤️???“
“Always delicious! I had my first Cheese Enchilada from Robertos some 49 years ago & I'm still loving them to this day! My all time favorite... EVER! The food is amazing. The staff are friendly. And that ocean view! Just wow! A+ with HONORS!“
“Nice restaurant, has been around for many years. Large outdoor patios. Decor is nice.Vegetarian options: Ask themDietary restrictions: Tell themParking: Not a typical restaurant with a parking lot. Street parking on surrounding streeta.Kid-friendliness: Kids love the food. No kids menu. Have to order apps or adult plateWheelchair accessibility: Lots of stairs, but I am sure they have a ramp or lift somewhere.“
“Rubio's is always amazing. Very taco shop like, not greatest atmosphere for gorgeous sitting but great if you are expecting a taco shop!Kid-friendliness: Outdoor seating is good for kids and indoor isn't bad, either. Not a ton of seating indoors but I've taken my family here a couple times.“
“Wow! This place is fantastic! The atmosphere is the perfect combination of beach casual, family friendly and still conveys that you are in for a treat. Fast and very friendly service made us feel right at home. Great drink selection both nonalcoholic and alcoholic. Now onto the tacos, I can't wait to go back! The grass-fed beef taco is heavenly perfection. Tender beef and so flavorful with the caramelized onions and cream making a magical sauce. The Cousteau fish taco was so fresh with the mango and cilantro adding to the simple and yet delicious taco. We saw a couple other menu items come out of the kitchen when we were there and I can't wait to try them all! Allergy and dietary concerns friendly for all. Parking lot in the back. Enjoy!“
“I went at a good time 11am before the crowds. Tried the carne asada taco and al pastor taco. The tortillas are sure fresh and tasty. I preferred the al pastor. The 2.Salsas I tried the hot and dark, which I think was Chipotle were just ok. They serve beer too. Just go!“
“Love SoN's! First time at this location, sat at the bar for drinks and dinner. Service was good and drinks were tasty!! Birria Enchilda's were good with egg on top but birria tacos probably would've been better to not over power the dish. El Mercado Salad with grilled chicken was fantastic if you're wanting something on the lighter side. We'll for sure be back.“
“Everything on the Menu is delicious. All of their Margarita's are amazing. The General Manager Gilbert Gastelum was very personable and even took a selfie with us. Our waiter Jos exceeded in Customer's Service and was very attentive. **Update** Friday, 04/27/2024. We came with a friend for Happy Hour and we had a great time. Eloy and Shannon, both waiters, were super friendly and made us feel very welcomed. They made our time here very pleasant. Thank you. We will be back soon.“
“Had a late night bite to eat. The staff was extremely friendly and polite, even though we were so close to closing time. The tacos were amazing. I wish we could've tried them all. The guacamole salt and lime was hands down the best guac ever. The homemade tortilla chips were top-notch. Kuty's churros are heavenly and highly recommended.“
“Tamarindo a MUST when you are visiting Del Mar! Outstanding views, food, cocktails, and SERVICE! We sat at the bar and were hosted by Kelsie and Michelle. These two young ladies were courteous, friendly and efficient! I have dined around San Diego for 20 years and what will always get me to return is good quality service. Thank you Kelsie and Michelle for making our first visit to Tamarindo so special! We will be back very soon.“
“I didn’t expect much but was surprised to get the tastiest food I ever ate in Mexican place. I suppose it was because the Taco Oasis shack was a first for me,beng used to restaurants, but those people know how to prepare the most tasty tacos I’ve ever eaten. They also add avocado no extra charge. Carne Asada Taco only $3.50 each. What a deal!“
“Came for a weekday lunch and had the B-appled panini which includes the pasta salad for $13. Prices are fair. Outdoor seating is picnic table style. The wait staff are fantastic! Came to ask if we needed the heater on, how the food was, and read my mind that I needed a to go box.I lost or dropped my valuable there and went to retrieve it the next day with everything in tact. Super appreciate the honesty and integrity of the staff and patrons here! Would love to come back for breakfast sometime.“
“Been coming here since high school (15+ years now). Even though the name got an update, the food is just as good as always. I’ve been getting the Justin burrito every time and it never disappoints. Plus, the people there are awesome (especially Pavlos himself ??)“
“Gabriella and Lorina are the absolute best. We were visiting from out of town and where we live. We cannot find birrieria tacos with Consume. When I called they were very friendly. So full of information and when I got there. They were so extremely kind. I was over the top excited and that did not faze them lol We also got beans and rice with them. And I'm not kidding. I'm a talker and I did not say a word while eating. I made tons of noisesthough lol If your reading this review I would travel out of state to come here. Great food, great presentation and actually a large amount. I was extremely pleased. And I am going back and again. I don't live in that town or city at all. I have to travel almost 3 hours to get there and I'm going to do that.“
“Nice casual place. Order at the front and they bring your food on your table. I had their carnitas with meal. Delicious. Very busy during weekends. Lots of takeout waiting. Take advantage of their daily happy hour. Great staff. Super friendly. Good selections of desserts.Cheers“
“Tucked away in an unassuming strip mall off the 101 is one of San Diego’s culinary jewels. A refreshing take on coastal Mexican set in a tastefully brooding atmosphere.Multidimensional, refreshing and just plain delicious this is a worthy contender for any Friday or Saturday night.Simply put, come and eat. It wont disappoint.“
“This is an innovative gourmet taco shop with a lovely atmosphere, and a living-room like area with chairs and a sofas facing the bar. It is the sister restaurant of the Michelin-noted Lola 55 in downtown San Diego. Every taco is assempled with care, with some unusual pairings, and photo-ready. The margaritas are zesty and unique, with black salt (?) on the rim. And I had attentive service, including from the owner. I only wish they had more things on their menu, but have liked everything I have had.“
“Very solid place to get a breakfast burrito. I ordered the steak and egg and my partner got the chorizo breakfast burrito before a flight. Had good portions of steak and the salsas tasted great as well, no complaints on the food. Free parking available in front.“
“Went after a morning workout. Had 3 fish tacos and a horchata fountain drink for about $7. Yes, the fish tacos are advertised at $1.19 each, very good portions with the choice of corn or flour tortillas, but didn't find them very tasty. An orange-colored salsa and pickled carrots from the complementary salsa bar helped a bit. The spot seems to be best suited for drinks at night, per the music played and full bar at this place. Would go back then or to try other food.“
“The best fish tacos! Double wrapped soft tortillas so they don't sock through like so many other tacos! Fresh lime wedge and tasty sauce with cabbage. Big portions too, not some dinky little taco. Fresh salsas too. Price is the best anywhere! Cheaper than Mexico!“
“We picked up some pretty tasty food from here and watching the lady make blue corn tortillas was a highlight for my son. Many of the chips were stuck together, making them unpleasant to handle and difficult to eat, unfortunately. The chicken for our fajitas were quite dry, but the rest of our food was tasty. Their carnitas are a bit too sweet for our liking, but mild so good for young children (or adults) who don't enjoy spice food. The burritos we got here were all wet so they're not ones you pick up with your hands to eat. The service is accommodating and courteous here and I'd love to try more dishes if we're in town again.“
“This place has totally transformed and they serve really great food (the food has always been amazing but the ambiance is event better now)! We’ve had salads, corn, wings, burgers and sandwiches! We’ve brought our kids during the day, and it’s totally kid friendly. The owner, Pete, has been wonderful to us…we’ll keep on going for sure!“
“I've been coming to Raul's since I lived down the street from them as a child, I've moved away since then, but I make it a point to have lunch here whenever I find myself near Encinitas.Their beef taquitos with cheese and guacamole are my ultimate comfort food and taste the same as they did over 20 years ago - delicious and crispy.“
“90% of the time the food is great. Oftentimes, the breakfast burrito potatoes are undercooked. And they always burn the eggs. But the hot sauce definitely makes up for it. I think they have the best hot sauce in town. The prices have gone up considerably recently but I still go here once a week.“
“We had dinner at Cocina De Barrio. The ambience is very lively and loud but one would expect that from most restaurants. What was not expected was the cuisine. I use the word cuisine because the food is amazing. The presentation and preparation remind me of some Michelin star restaurants I've been to in San Diego. The staff is very knowledgeable regarding all the menu items and the many bar offerings. The staff was also very attentive without being overbearing. I'm still thinking about the guacamole dip made at our table. I highly recommend eating here. I know we will be back soon.“
“This is such a cool place and offers a very authentic feel. The seating downstairs is so cool and pet friendly. There are plants everywhere and they have heaters for colder days. It’s mostly covered so you are safe in the rain. The food was delicious and the happy hour made everything even more affordable. We got nachos and tacos and it was all perfect. We will for sure be going back the next time we are in Del Mar.Vegetarian options: The wonderful thing about Mexican food is that it’s very easy to turn into vegetarian or vegan.Parking: It was a little busy so we had to drive around a little to find parking. I imagine during busy season it’s very difficult to find parking but it’s very walkable.“
“Ordered the breakfast burrito and the california burrito. Large, fresh, flavorful. Great authentic tortillas and fresh salsa. Restaurant was clean and the staff were helpful in pointing out the specialties. They seemed to take pride in their food and their establishment. Will definitely go back.“
“The torta is excellent. The pollo asado has great flavor. I really enjoyed the rice and beans as well. It’s a cozy hole in the wall spot that is putting love into their food. Will be returning, especially since it’s within walking distance to my house! I gave it 5 stars across the board because it’s hitting the marks for what you’d want from a local taco shop.Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs, plenty of space for a wheelchair, and accessible from sidewalk that has curb cuts.“
“We had no idea this place opened up about 6 weeks before our visit (transferred owners and beautiful decor. Modern, sleek and upscale. We had the ceviche, birria short rib which was enough for 2 people!, the Mexican corn, and Spanish rice as sides— these were phenomenal!! Palomas to introduce the palate to these flavors is a good choice.Shane, our server, was very attentive, easy going, and knew the menu!“
“We asked for a cafe recommendation from a gracious merchant close by.I am so grateful for her suggestion!! Everything was perfect. We received generous portions of very tastefully seasoned food after a pleasant conversation with our waiter.“
“Part of the Roberto's empire. Been going to several of them for years, and all were and are still banging. Their new-ish app is great, it lets you enter any custom requests, as well as several preset options. Oh, and the Chile Verde burrito is BACK!Vegetarian options: In person, you can customize your order as needed. With the app you can as well. My wife has multiple food allergies, so when we order online she gets a large tortilla, whole pinto beans/no cheese, and rice. She then adds some other stuff from our fridge and has a semi-custom/self-made burrito! The rest of us aren't strict vegetarians, but customizing orders happens frequently.Dietary restrictions: See above about dietary restrictions. They're pretty flexible.Parking: They have a few spots right in front, but if people are choosing to eat there, then it can get crowded. You can park a ways down PCH and walk down; helps build your appetite. That all said, it's rare when I can't find a spot.“
“I go to Casero taqueria with my girlfriends every time we go to Carlsbad, the food is so fresh and so are the margaritas, they also have a variety of items in their menu, I highly recommend. I don’t know where the people who rated this place with 1 Star came from.“
“We love Del Mar and this is our go to restaurant. You don't need reservations and they have a nice outdoor atmosphere. The service is very friendly. The food is good and well priced. I consider this restaurant a great alternative to the expensive Californian restaurants as well as the less expensive pizza and Mexican places in town. I also have taken business lunch meetings here as the lunch menu is very reasonable. Lots of parking around if you head down 11 or 12 Ave toward the water.“
“Lived in Del Mar for 14 years now and I have to say that without fail Kotija Jr. Delivers great Mexican food each time I go there. The guys working there are super chill and laid back which is rad. The portions are big and you get a lot for your money. The fish tacos, Al Pastor and tried and true California burrito are fantastic. The food is done pretty quick and comes out hot and fresh. If you're big into Mexican food and wanna have a chill Denali definitely go here.“
“My first time at an El Pollo Loco (btw love the name ?). We chose to dine-in. The place was quite, clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful with my questions about their menu. I had the chicken&avocado bowl and the rest of the family had chicken quesadillas, tacos al carbon and chicken burritos. The flavours were there and the prices were good. My only comment for the store manager would be to ensure that the avocados in the chicken&avocado bowl be as fresh as possible because mine were a little passed their best point and they are one of the two main ingredients of the dish. But we would definitely go again! Thank you.“
“I miss our San Diego location so much. When I was heading to my grandsons soccer game, I recognized the shopping center while sitting at the light. Made the suggestion to see if my favorite citrus fish tacos was still around. So off we went after the big win. Did not disappoint! Music was good, just a tad loud. Felt like I had to shout over it.“
“On vacation in San Diego Thanksgiving week for 3 days, found My Pazole at the pacific beach farmer's market. Bought a pork and a chicken. Just had the pork tonight with all the toppings and it was fresh and delicious, wish I lived in that area so I could get it weekly but had to head back to orange county. Thanks for a great soup.“
“Really good Mexican-Filipino fusion restaurant in Mira Mesa. Have been twice now and so far tried the hot cheeto burrito, Pac-Man fries, and bomba burrito. So the bomba burrito is made up of 2 tortillas and filled with al pastor, 2 rolled tacos, bacon, guacamole, sour cream, chipotle sauce, hot cheetos, and fries. It was a GIGANTIC burrito slightly larger than our 13 pound cat. Would not order again because it's a bit dry and gratuitous, but it was fun for the bit. I split it with my boyfriend and we had it in 4 separate meals. However, I would recommend the hot cheeto burrito and the Pac-Man fries. The crispy tosino on top of regular carne asada fries provides such a nice break in texture. Also, love the cheese sauce in the hot cheeto burrito; it's a warm cheesy compliment to the crunchy hot cheetos in the burrito. Not the best Mexican food I've had but really great creativity. Will for sure be coming back!“
“Great family-owned hole-in-the-wall for some budget, fast Mexican food. The lady who took my order was super sweet! I got the Al Pastor Burrito and it was so much food for the price. I'll definitely be back to try one of their daily specials.“
“This is my favorite Taco Shop. Don’t come here for the service or atmosphere. But if you want the best carne asada burrito, this IS the place. Large, tasty and filled with carne asada. It’s my go to and have not eaten anything else here.Parking: Lot in back holds about 7 cars.“
“Great food, great drinks, great service! Server Edoardo knews every detail of the food and drinks served and could answer every question - even gave me an excellent recommendation of a tequila to try that night.Tips are already included into the bill ~“
“I loved absolutely everything about this restaurant. Water features leading into the restaurant, and impeccable decor. Drinks and food also excellent. Lighting is dimmer which is really romantic and very spacious so noise level is perfect for conversation. My new favorite place in San Diego. Highly recommend.“
“Very good place, only the shipping one is very special, he is a man, of course, he does not answer quickly, he talks a lot on the phone and is very angry about everything, he is annoying before, he was a great service in shipping to ladies and the ladies are very kind, that man is not I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but I had to say the store was all very well.“
“Oh my gosh the fried fish tacos sent me to heaven. I literally said "oh my gosh" after each bite because I would forget how good it was. This place is close to the beach, affordable, and so darn delicious. If you are looking for food to fill your belly and heal your soul you have to come get a burrito from here.Vegetarian options: You can have your meals made however you like. Mexican food is always a great option for vegetarians and this place is delicious.Parking: The parking spaces are a little small but there is a lot of street parking and its an easy walk.“
“This place is bomb. Everyone is so kind, the food is delicious, portions are excellent, and the prices are some of the best in town. This place sees a lot of construction workers in the mid-morning, most of us coming from muddy jobsites, and despite that, the place stays pretty clean.“
“Delicious and ideal for a quick breakfast! I opted for the fish taco, while my boyfriend chose the El Mananero burrito. Both were really tasty, and the cashier who took our order was exceptionally nice. Additionally, the tables were clean and well-maintained.“
“I love their cute little outdoor seating area. The service was really good. I liked the food, but the flour tortillas weren't exactly what I was hoping for. I'm not sure if they're homemade or not, but I always look for really good flour tortillas.“
