“First of all, this is my favorite poke place ever for almost 5 years now since I moved from Florida to California. I recently came back in the area for work in May this year 2026 from 2024 and already got 3 bowls in less than a month that’s how much I love this place. But question for the management, what is going on with your staff customer service skills? Do they not want to work for you? They seemed mad, impatient, and rude then speaks Spanish right after I request something. This behavior appears consistent the last 3 times. It wasn’t like this before 2 years ago. Also the portions have gone lower. I respect it more when they would weigh but to just guess and put 2 pcs then comes back just to grab one more little pc without weighing for 1 of 4 protein choice seems really odd. A lot of the same comments about staff rudeness is spoken here. I still gave five stars but I expect better the next time I come back. It’s such a beautiful area too.“

“Really just a phenomenal spot. Took a gamble the first time after a load out on the way to the airport; could really sit here and eat sushi all day. Very nice waiter/host that I remember both times - everyone was so welcoming. Local tofu appetizer was excellent. Every piece of fish I wanted more of especially the sea trout; exceptionally fresh and also well cut / not too large of a piece especially with the sashimi. Can’t wait to be back in the area so i can visit again“

“First time coming here, sushi was really good and nigiri and sashimi offered a lot of different choices. Very convenient that the hot barley tea comes with refills, because it was honestly really good. The store was a little hard to find, as there is no sign above the door. Otherwise, one of the best sushi places I’ve ever been to! :)“

We got the top secret and hamachi carpaccio which I would definitely get again, then for main dish we ordered curry rice (little bit of spice, nice crispy pork) and mentaiko yaki udon (flavorful, not too heavy noodles were perfectly cooked) which were good but would want to try other items that also looked good on the menu. Definitely recommend!“

There was enough variety to incentivize you to try the different options, but not so much that you would get overwhelmed. We went during happy hour and were very pleased with the experience. The restaurant is not very big, but it was not busy during our visit.“

“So many delicious affordable options, it makes you want to order the entire menu. We got miso soup, cucumber salad, wok fried green beans, the tuna poke and the garden roll. Everything was so good and well worth the month. I wish the portions were bigger but for the price you really can't complain.“

“This was our favorite sushi so far in the city. The big lovers boat was really delicious, affordable and the fish was fresh and melted in your mouth. We also got a roll with some eel and tuna and one with lemon salmon cucumber and avocado. My one note for the lemon roll is i would prefer the lemon sliced more thinly as to not overwhelm the roll as much.

A highlight was trying monkfish liver for the first time. Im attaching a picture of a monkfish, they look crazy haha. The liver was delightfully presented - layered and but into perfect circles - and tasted rich and fishy. I didn’t like it at first but by halfway through began to enjoy the flavor. I think any taste can be an acquired taste if you try something. Id get it again“

“Food was good but a bit more pricey than other Japanese sushi restaurants in terms of quantity and price. The service is good. The waitress is very attentive. We were seated at the section separating from the main seating area which is close to the door, so it was a bit cold because of the wind on that day. Overall is good but not great but will come back once in a while! :)“

“We Normally go to the all you can eat place down the street but the portions are different now and it's always packed so we thought we'd give this a try and we were glad we did. It stays open almost 2 hours longer and had lots of open tables. We mostly did rolls and they were good, I generally test other places but their lion king and I can say they have one of my favorites, they use mozzarella where I haven't seen that used anywhere else yet. I also have to mention the drink prices are really good too. We will be back for sure. So if the place down the street has a waiting list maybe give Sushi Tonis a try!“

“Lion West Portal was an amazing experience! The atmosphere is cozy and the staff helpful. The star of the show is an entire dedicated page of the menu for vegan sushi with a 90min AYCE option. “The food here was definitely the highlight. Everything tasted pretty fresh and flavorful, and overall I would rate the food about 4/5. The ingredients seemed good quality and the dishes were enjoyable.

However, the service was a bit disappointing. The staff did their job, but they didn’t feel very welcoming or friendly. There wasn’t much interaction beyond the basics, and with the price point here, I expected a more warm and attentive experience.

The atmosphere was also just okay. It wasn’t fancy or fine dining, but it also didn’t really give a strong Japanese vibe either. The environment felt a bit mixed and not very memorable.

Overall, I’m giving 4 stars mainly because the food was good. If I rated the experience as a whole (food + service + atmosphere), it would probably be closer to 3/5. Still worth trying if you care mostly about the food.“
