“This is a ramen spot, but all their workers spoke Mandarin. It didn't matter though. The food was fantastic and a good value. We got the Special Combo set. They have three to choose from. We got the set with ramen. You get a small ramen with two sides. We chose the black garlic broth which was $1.50 more, so $15.75 for each meal. The black garlic ramen was fantastic. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the broth was tasty. Thankfully, it wasn't watered down. Their broths are simmered for 12 hours daily. The sides were all good as well. I got the calamari rings and gyoza. It was a decent size and filled with pork and veggies. My hubby got the mochiko chicken and chicken katsu. What really made me notice this place is what I heard and not what I seen. The table next to us ordered the fried rice. I grew up eating Chinese food and probably eaten at a thousand Chinese restaurants. That sound of metal clinking on the wok with the fire flaring doesn't escape my ears. I was just eating my ramen when I heard that sound. My ears perked up. I knew that they were making the fried rice and that it was going to be filled with wok hei. That's how I knew this place was legit.“

Even when the man grouchy you cannot taste it in his food it still tastes good. Hamburger steak is that thing. I don't know how they make the mochiko chicken so lightly fried almost like tempura. I like that there is a sauce for it. Small Bento - $9 (1 hand formed unseasoned musubi, 1 piece maki sushi with seasoned tuna and dried shrimp, 1 plain sushi, 1/3 boiled hotdog, seasoned tofu, and 3 boneless pieces of sweet chili pepper chicken thigh). The seasoning for the sushi rice is very light, not vinegar and slightly sweet. 2. Large Bento $11 (Add an well seasoned inari sushi, slice of luncheon meat and boiled shrimp). Items have changed over the years and there was a momentary dip in quality when the matriarch passed and the next generation found its footing but it's back. Warning: All the food is premade and is at room temp. If it bothers you, it's called a microwave. Will you like it? That depends. When it comes to old school okazuya flavors, what you grew up with is what you think is good. This is the food I grew up with. Fourth generation Japanese American whose family originally immigrated from Fukushima and raised subsequent generations around the Waipahu plantation that was largely Japanese. Sugar, light soy, ginger, sake. Sweet and light flavors. To me, good eats.“

Rock n' Sushi's rolls are my favorite things to order and I recommend sitting at the bar if your party is on the smaller end. Their rolls have a great mix of flavors and always HIT! I also recommend the miso eggplant, something so simple is SO good! Came for Sunday early lunch and the restaurant was pretty packed, but interestingly slowed down come noontime. It was amazing to see how hard the servers and wait staff were working, just going non stop! Our table ordered the double cheeseburger with fries, plain, a Teri beef stick, and the #58 The Dodonpa. Burger was fine, had bits of green and white onion in the patty itself. Teri beef stick was a let down. Tasted fine, but tough like it was precooked and microwaved. Loved the saimin though, especially since I love loads of toppings and this came with it all! Egg, wonton, cha siu pork, crispy pork, roast beef, imitation crab, fried shrimp luncheon meat, cabbage..... again, toppings galore. Everything was good except the fried shrimp which came out first on its own plate - shrimp was so thin and it was all hard, thick batter by the time the saimin came out. The lechon and the brisket items are winners and items I'll def order in the future.“

I had dropped my husband off at physical therapy near kuakini and was honestly trying to go to yifang to get boba, when I realized they closed their iwilei location. So I pulled into the jollybee'a parking lot to come up with a plan. There's a s7 icy bubble that I'm not that fond of, but will go to if I'm desperate. And then on yelp I found shiggys. Shiggy is the guy who used to(?) maybe still does (?) stand in the kahala times and make sushi. I remember he made these ume, radish, sprout rolls that I loved, but really couldn't afford because it was like $5 for two little rolls. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he has a little shop in kalihi. They offer things made to order and also offer grab and go things like little bentos and gyoza. If you go near closing, the prepared food is discounted. It's just a little to-go store. There aren't any tables to sit at and eat and it's a little run down. It has character haha. I'd be back for a snack. I hope he can still make those ume rolls. I'd splurge every now and then haha.“
“I've tried this place several times and finally got a chance to write a review. I've always ordered the 2-choice(combination) Teishoku and tried different kinds of items. After every visit, I must say, everything was good! The quality and presentation is top notch. This time, I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki and Mini Chirashi combination. The chicken was excellent. It was soft, and the teriyaki sauce was very flavorful, not overwhelming. The mini Chirashi (which was an extra charge of $4) came with ahi, salmon, shrimp, tako, and ika. Everything was fresh and tasty, especially when slightly dipped in wasabi/shoyu sauce. Tan ordered the combination salmon and spicy ahi. I had a piece of salmon, and it was cooked to perfection. The Spicy Ahi(another extra charge of $3) was also flavorful. It was more on the creamy side than on a chunky side. Both combinations were served with miso soup and a bowl of greens. Hot tea was also included. The only downside of all my visits was that they always ran out of Ahi Tempura. We came in 15 minutes after opening at 5:15 pm, and it was sold out 5 minutes prior. Hot item!! I would have given them a 4 star, but the food quality and customer service were superior. It made up for that star. It was so good we made a salmon takeout order for tomorrows lunch.“

It's easy for me to get carried away and I wasn't super hungry so I opted for the breakfast bento only $7.25 comes with fried rice, 2 eggs you choice and a choice of breakfast meat (spam, hot dog, or lup cheong). It was perfect. I wish I got the hot dog because I didn't realize it was the shoyu hot dog. I love those! Everything else looked super yum and I'll definitely be back!“
“Coming home from Nebraska, ninja sushi is always a MUST. Their customer service has always been up to par and they never failed to provide such great hospitality. Usually we do take out, but this time we decided to dine in. This location has about 6-7 tables that can accommodate up to 4 individuals with more seat options outside that consist of umbrellas to provide shade. Upon entering, it is necessary to grab a parking ticket to enter the parking lot; but with a purchase from any of the vendors, validation covers 2 hours. The staff is friendly and easily approachable. Whenever there is a question, they are so willing to answer with such great detail. My personal favorite is the Superman roll & Tiger roll. Since there is 4 adults, this was more than enough to satisfy our sushi fix! Always recommend! Another great item not featured that we usually get is the Ahi Lover's! Portions are valid for the price you pay! Location is clean, friendly, and provides quick service. Lots of variety!“

“One of the absolute best tonkatsu spots I've ever been. We went for lunch at noon on a Sunday and only had to wait around 30min for a table. I ordered the ebi and pork filet combo and it came out really quickly. The ebi was super flavorful, and the pork was supremely tender. Both were fried perfectly golden brown. The katsu sauce is a little on the sweet side, but definitely good. I loved the garlic miso dressing so much I bought a bottle to take home. I will absolutely be coming here again!“

It's located next to Yohei Sushi on Dillingham. Right now, because of the rail construction, it's a bit pain in the @$$ to get there but it's worth it. It's take out only. So you order and you wait outside. I saw many do phone orders. The staff are very friendly and the shop is clean. We ordered Mechi Katsu, Menchi Katsu Curry, Mushroom Chicken, and Hamburg Steak with Egg. All plates came with some mixed greens and macaroni salad. The macaroni salad was not too much mayo so it was good. The Menchi Katsu was a good size patty and very good. Although, we didn't care for the sauce on the menchi katsu. It was a bit sweet for our taste. Hopefully, next time we can omit it? and just have the regular tonkatsu sauce instead. The curry was okay, just a little on the sweet side for our liking. The hamburg steak was a good size patty with lots of demi sauce. I knew I'm not a fan of demi sauce but wanted to try it anyways. They cover the patty with lots of it. A pretty thick demi sauce. The best plate was the mushroom chicken. the chicken was tender and the gravy was good, not salty at all. I'd come back for the menchi and the mushroom chicken.“

“Went to celebrate my wife's birthday this past Saturday at Kunis. The last time we went was last year when we celebrated my birthday. I called in the reservation but probably should have made it through Yelp since you can get a free birthday meal. Though it would probably need to be your actual birthday. The day of the dinner they called me to ask me a couple of questions like if we needed a high chair (got my 2 grandkids) and if we were celebrating anything. I told them it was for my wife's birthday, they asked if it was on that day and I honestly said no. Someone near us celebrated a birthday and they turned off the lights and sang happy birthday to her. I'd probably give the rating 4.5 if I could. I knocked off half a star as my Teri steak was cold. “We had avoided dining here because of the health department finding them about 5 years ago. OUR LOSS! We tried it and was blown away by the food quality and taste! The restaurant is very clean, and so is the kitchen (visible through a large window behind the cashier). I've had the Japanese teshoku shrimp and the ramen set (tried the white broth which is boiled overnight and so impressed by its taste, that I ordered it again the next time we went there). Both were excellent. They also offerbrown rice which helps my diet restrictions. They are generous with the servings. The service is friendly and professional.
