“I had the unexpected pleasure of enjoying drinks and snacks at Obake. We were early for reservations at Skull and Crown. The hostess recommended Obake, which is their sister bar and restaurant, just around the corner. We were seated at the counter across from chef Christian and watched him craft all the handrolls served during our visit. First, the drinks: we had the Momiji, the Will o' the Whisp, the Fallen Angel, and the Feels like Summer. This isn't your everyday bar. The cocktails took some time to craft, but they did not disappoint . The Momiji was their nod to fall, while the Feels like Summer, well, you get it. While each drink was light and enjoyable, my favorite was the FLS. A nod to the Old Fashioned, but light and bright.
The house pickles and Yukari Fries were perfect sharing plates. We also tried the Hamachi, Summer Toro, Ho Hayn, and Bangsilog rolls. The Summer Toro had strawberries in it that paired beautifully with the spicy Toro. The Ho Hayn was served with a small dish of Hawaiian chili pepper water, either dipped in the water or followed by a chaser sip of the water. The Ho Hayn left me wanting more. The Bangsilog was probably my favorite just because it brought me back to breakfast in my Filipino mother's kitchen. It was all the flavors of my childhood in one roll.
Our server, whose name slips my memory, was a delight. She was attentive and explained the concepts behind the drinks she brought us.
Christian was a joy to watch and a joy to speak with.
Thank you for an enjoyable evening.“

“Update June 2025: we’ve came back for its lunch for the first time. It has a lunch set menu (and a la cart as well). I had the cold noodles and it was quite good. We each get to pick two small sides with our set lunch. You can taste the difference here as the kitchen staff clearly cared about their crafts. The price and quantity were quite reasonable. Though unfortunately, it didn’t serve Wagyu beef sets during lunch. I just have to come back again for dinner.
Update: we’ve returned for the second time in a week. The sushimis were still very fresh and the Wagyu (I had the yakiniku today, which came in thicker slices and a different dipping sauce) was still tasty. Yakiniku was good, but I liked the grilled Wagyu a bit better as the cut was more marblized than the yakiniku. I also had a caramel pudding, which was excellent.
This is a newish Japanese restaurant that serves traditional dishes of sushis, sashimi and beef. The sashimi had both local (otoro and salmon) and as well as Japanese imports (yellowtail, snapper, uni, etc.). Our order of sashimi platter was very fresh and very well sliced. We also had the grilled wagyu set that came with standard sides such as a salad, rice, pickles, miso soup, candied yam, tempura (2 pieces of shrimp and a bit of veggies) and 4 small slices of sashimi. The beef were thinly sliced and we had to grill them ourselves. The wagyu was fresh and tasted good. The service was attentive and the sitting area was pleasant. Parking can be found across the alley in the Ward Center’s large parking structure. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience.“

“Omakase by Aung was my favorite dining experience in my week in Oahu. Chef and staff were super welcoming and kind while prepping an amazing omakase set. Go here if you’re looking for delicious omakase with a more fun, modern style, and not stuffy at all.
Food - every course was so delicious. Freshly ground wasabi was light and perfectly portioned in each bite of nigiri, coming from a person who avoids wasabi typically but you can trust chef Aung to craft each bite! I loved trying different pieces that I don’t usually order, for example in our set we had two kinds of mackerel that were amazing. Usually my favorite is chu toro and while that was delicious, every course was as delicious if not more.
Pacing was wonderful - there were a few people late to the seating but chef caught them up to us while not delaying any courses - and the music really added to the vibe/experience as well. BYOB and they also help serve your drinks which was so nice. If you want, bring more to share (tequila is chefs fave)“

“It was a genuine privilege to watch a master at his craft. The food was fresh and delicious, uniquely prepared in front of you. The restaurant is a discrete and intimate experience with only 10 seats (6 at the counter to watch the chef).
We had the 21 piece option and it is truly worth it.“

“Top sushi restaurant in Hawaii Oahu. It is located inside the Ritz Carlton Hotel Waikiki. Serving omakase menu at the sushi counter. Veyr hard to make reservation as very limited seats. Overall the cooking are very good. All sushi and dishes including dessert are delicious. It is worth a Michelin 2 Stars. Service is very good as well. It is nice to have good quality sushi sashimi outside of Japan. Improvement to make is to have a better and bigger selections of Wine and Sake. Delicious“

When you eat it, you’ll be surprised twice by how delicious it is! If I get the chance, I want to come to Hawaii and eat there again! :)“

“The staff remembered what I visited last year. I was very happy. All the dishes were delicious, and there were many kinds of alcohol. I was able to have a good meal and a good space while watching the fireworks on Friday. The staff remembered my physical condition, and I wanted to do my best to treat and visit again.“

“Update: So I ordered again to give the place another try. I ordered a salmon bowl again. I asked again for no sauce, in much more specific terms and hoped for the best. They came through this time and I was able to enjoy the food without worrying, so I'm very happy. It was yummy, but I did notice the sprouts and cucumbers were missing. These were listed in the base ingredients for the bowl, which is why I didn't request them as an add-on. It's a pretty pricey meal, so please remember to include everything next time.
Original review: I just ordered a bowl from here. In my order, I explicitly asked for no sauce on or in my bowl, both by choosing the "no sauce" option and by writing "no sauce" in the request section. Also asked for no fried onions. I can't have the sauce or the onions because I'm on a strict, doctor-ordered low sodium diet. The food gets here and it's slathered in sauce, fried onions everywhere.“

“I recently visited this small sushi spot and had a great experience. The sushi was incredibly fresh, and the chef was very friendly. I also ordered a few rolls and forgot to take pictures. Spicy ahi with cucumber was tasty. The staff was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. There's free parking just across the street, which is a nice bonus. It’s a small space, so definitely make a reservation ahead of time to secure a table. Highly recommend!“

“The best Seafood Tempura in Hawaii! Scallops, calamari, shrimp, crab, ahi & assorted veggies. Light, crispy and cooked to perfection. Highly recommended!!! Ask for lemon & salt for all the seafood, if you want to take it to a higher level. I learned this from a tempura bar in Japan.“

“This place should be rated WAY higher. The rolls were FRESH, the rice was HOT; they even used real crab in their rolls! (I don't think I've ever had sushi made with real crab before)
I WILL SAY-- they're only cash. But that doesn't matter when the food is that great.
Perfectly filled my bf and I for lunch for $13.“

“I wonder why they serve human food but have the name “fish food”? hm, the world may never know. anywho, i had the spicy ahi bowl (?) that came with rice, some fish, and 2 pieces of gyoza with sauce. the fish was good and had the spiciness of a 3.5 on the caucasian scale of spicy; has a little kick but won’t make you cry out for jésus or anything. the convenience of having poke on base was amazing but the portion size was not! $15 or so for a small bento sized meal is a little pricey as poke bowls at foodland are about $5 cheaper and they give you more fish and rice as well. For the size of fish food hawaiis spicy ahi, i have attached a pic to show the size with an ice breakers ice cube gum for a scale (didn’t have banana for scale)“

“Found this small restaurant as I walked around the area. Prices have increased from the menu I saw posted on here. Most are three dollars higher. There is a small seating area and I suppose you can eat there but this seems more like an order and go type of place. Food is decent. I found the portions to be spot on. I couldn’t finish my bento box and I took a bite of the poke bowl my wife ordered. Both were good. Fresh stuff. I’d recommend for sure.“

“Omakase is special here. Everything had an extra element of nuanced flavor and treatment that is uncommon if not rare to find in most other sushi restaurants. You can tell by the first plate you're presented as starters. Tiny place, so plan on getting to greet and chat with others. But the dinner I attended here we ran into only cute families with cute kids.“

“Absolutely love the home-like atmosphere. The gentleman in the front was very comforting and relaxed. He even took the time to take my food out of the bag when he realized I was dining in for lunch. He even gave me a bowl of Miso The sushi is good - Spicy Ahi comes finely cut, not cubed like foodland... and to me, it's a winner. I also got their grilled salmon Maki which was tasty, not drenched with unagi or anything like that, just finely drizzled so you could still taste the fish. Overall lovely place to come if you're trying to get away from those big box brand and food courts.“

“My partner and I visited earlier in April, and the experience was incredible—the omakase was the best we’ve ever had! The staff was outstanding, especially the woman, oneesan, who took such attentive care of us. She thoughtfully introduced each dish, using multiple languages, showing us photos of the fish, and describing what flavors we could anticipate. For instance, before serving the sea urchin (uni), she mentioned we'd taste the flavour of the sea, and indeed, it was exactly as described! She was extremely patient and friendly.
The co-chef was wonderful as well. We sat directly in front of him and enjoyed watching him meticulously prepare each course with great skill and patience. He was very polite and welcoming.
Lastly, the food itself was incredibly fresh, and the courses offered exceptional value—especially the lunch set.
We truly felt warmly welcomed and had a wonderful experience overall. After finishing our meal, we enjoyed a friendly chat with the staff oneesan and co-chef, which made our experience even more memorable and delightful. We’ll definitely visit again!
Arigatou gozaimasu!“
