“Recommended by the Hawaiian Traveller to check this place out and try their ube shake and shave ice. Not only did we walk into this Old Sugar Mill for sweets, we walked into a coffee tour, cacao tasting in its natural form, and sampled their coffee with different production methods. Dole company partners with Old Sugar Mill so we were able to see how coffee beans are processed from cropping to fermentation. The Ube shake was made fresh and definitely tasty! The passionfruit shave ice was a lil too sweet so Ube smoothie helped balanced out! Thank you Old Sugar Mill for sharing your story!”
“This is one of those authentic local joints that can be hard to find amidst all the touristy joints. Bill and Reba Martin are extremely welcoming and the dark roast natural process coffee was some the best I have tasted in my long life. Robust, but not at all bitter, and more pleasant than Sumatran. They grow it and process it right there. The power was out, so they couldn't grind any, so they sold me some ground coffee at the whole-bean price. They also hosted us around the store, which is in a cavernous old industrial building, with flashlights. When we were done, Bill showed me the roaster and then Reba took us behind the store for a look at the coffee and cacao beans laid out on tables and concrete to ferment. They also had old sugar mill equipment, that her Filipino community used to operate. She was rightfully proud. A real treasure and the highlight of the day.”
“Wow, just wow. This off the beaten path cafe is amazing. Cool vibes, delicious food, and fantastic service. Coffee, waffles, pitas, and pizza. We tried it all and it’s top notch. Highly recommend making a stop here when you are on the North Shore!”
“Passing through on the way back to Honolulu from north shore, happened to walk in and had the best pineapple cream pie ever. Stop and get a slice of you are anywhere near Haleiwa!”
“I genuinely adore this cozy beverage shop! They offer a diverse range of drinks, including coffee, tea, and iced beverages. Their menu features unique options infused with guava, lilikoi, and passion orange--fruits indigenous to Hawaii. The shaved ice, their main spotlight, is especially delicious. My friend opted for the pineapple flavor, and after sampling it, I found it to be incredibly refreshing, with just the right amount of syrup--perfect for warm weather. The pricing is impressively reasonable. A large shaved ice costs less than $5! The staff is exceptionally friendly and welcoming. This spot is a fantastic pitstop on our way to the beach.”
“For cooked fish, it was pretty good! And it's massive! You can easily make this into two meals. In order to eat here, you HAVE to follow their Instagram; that's where they post their hours and location. They're normally parked right across Waialua Elementary School where the big welcome sign is: "Welcome to Waialua. Home of the World's Best Sugar" You can just park on the dirt path while you patiently wait for them. There's usually already a couple of cars waiting before the truck arrives to snag a spot in line. Don't forget they're CASH ONLY and they do prefer smaller bills/exact change. Once you get your plates, you can drive down the road to the park (literally two minutes away) and picnic on the benches! I personally don't care for cooked fish but this wasn't so bad to me. Usually cooked fish is dry but I enjoyed this one. It's drenched in sauce which does get a bit heavy but it complemented the fish well. I'd say it's a food experience everyone should try at least once!”
“Got the Gordupa and Vegan California Burrito with soy asada. The food was sooo bomb!!! Best vegan food I have had in Hawaii to date. Highly recommend this place. I'm sad they weren't busier, they deserve it! Ambiance was a chill vibe. The burrito was so delicious we ordered another one to go to eat at our hotel.”
“Very fresh and flavorful home made food. Beautiful vista. Worth the drive to eat locally and traditionally in an unassuming local environment. Be patient to find parking.”
“Stopped by on a weekend shortly after they opened. A tad slow on food prep, but a neat place to sit and wait. Tables are old factory gears under a glass top. Didn't complain at all once the food arrived. Ono!”
“This is the luau to go to in Oahu! The reviews I read before were accurate! The experience, food and “cousins” were all fantastic! The show was amazing and the cherry on top was access to the botanical gardens and water fall hike. Can’t beat that and much more authentic than your typical resort luau!”
“A must stop if you're on the North Shore! We weren't sure what kind of shop we were looking for, so we passed it up and missed the parking across the street, but there are a few parking spots right around the corner with a path that leads to the shop. We purchased the chocolate chip and mochi loaves. They were both really delicious; the mochi was super moist. If we were to go back, I would definitely get the mochi loaf again. I may have to check out their shipping options.”
“Been coming here for years and it's a family favorite! The customer service is always amazing and they make you feel so welcomed the pizza is amazing, my personal favorite on the island n its brick-oven style so even better the decorations inside are so cute too, makes you feel like you're having a nice meal at home surrounded by people that love you (:”
“We drove north in a rental car and ate shave ice. It was crowded, but the rotation was good so it didn't take long. It would have been better to get the large size and add red beans, mochi, green tea, and condensed milk. That's all I failed, it was fluffy and delicious.Mr. Matsumoto was also at the store.Parking: I was able to find it right awayKid-friendliness: There were a lotWheelchair accessibility: There is a large parking lot in the back”
“I think this place is so cute, to be honest I was kind of ignoring it because I figured it would be a huge tourist trap with that uninviting feeling, but I was definitely wrong! It gets a lot of foot traffic but the atmosphere remains so relaxed and friendly and open. The owner encourages you to try samples of everything; coffee, his chocolate covered coffee beans, etc. I got to try a few different things and it made for great conversation. Plenty of parking and plenty of seating all over the farm. I think this is actually my favorite place on island for a nice sit down and unwind :)”
“OMG THIS PLACE IS JUST AMAZING!! LIKE THE LIVE MUSIC IS THE BEST MUSIC IVE EVER HEARD ITS SO VIBY AND BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! THE STAFF IS S O KIND AND NICE AND LOVELY!! LIKE RECOMMEND SO SO SO MUCH<33333”
“north shore's favorite açaí spot! locals along with tourists know that hale'iwa bowls is a must-have when going to north shore. from the fruits to purée's, everything is so refreshing and tasty. the base itself is always dense, and topped with the perfect ratio of fruits and granola. the bowls are never skimpy and in my opinion, the small is enough for even 2 people the place is pretty small, as it's a walk-up type of service so i'd say it's pretty easy to miss! but it's such a nice place to stop by for a quick refreshment. there aren't a lot of seating outside, so feel free take it to the beach or walk around! @haleiwabowls overall: 5/5 order: - two (2) small, hapa açaí bowls parking: - in back lot behind the building - street parking nearby”
“The shrimp was excellent! The rice was good. They made special accommodations for my son who cannot have any dairy products to cook his shrimp without dairy products when we talked to them about his food allergy. I love that they went above and beyond to accommodate him. The only thing I would have changed it that the shrimp came in the shell and the seasoning was on the shell. You lose the seasoning when you remove the shell to eat it.The parking is a little crazy there. It's shared with several other food trucks and you can only park there if you're eating at one of the food trucks. Also, bathrooms in the area are very limited and it's hard to find a public restroom. There is a port-o-potty in the parking lot but it was bad!!! I would put it in the second worst bathroom I've ever been in. It hadn't been serviced in forever and the waste was all the way up to the toilet seat lid. The smell was horrible and it was disgusting. I didn't let this affect my review because it is a food truck area and I don't know who is responsible for the bathroom and it didn't directly affect the food truck. Thankfully, the food truck provided hand sanitizer because that was incredibly disgusting and there was nowhere to wash my hand afterwards. It is an emergency only bathroom!!”
“For one, the burgers are delicious. I almost went back for a second one. There's plenty of seating. Go next store to the supermarket for a beer or bottle of wine, and you're all set to watch the sunset while muching on some great eats. Just lovely!”
“This place has always been on my top 10 list. Island favorites always, great food, customer services, and environment is always a plus.Kid-friendliness: This place is always about Ohana.”
“First time here and will definitely be back when I come back to North Shore.Everything was fresh tasting, flavorful and delicious. Prices are great too. You get plenty of food! Would definitely recommend!Dietary restrictions: Plenty of vegan and vegetarian options!”
“Had 2 fish tacos I could have done well with one because of the generous portions . The fish is fresh and not fried. Great atmosphere with a gentleman to help you find a parking spot. Low key and comfortable. You will not be sorry.”
“Got the açaí smoothie and it was delicious. The service was quick and helpful. There’s outdoor seating next to the river which makes it a gem.Parking: Sometimes parking may be difficult due to location.”
“We loved this ice cream!! We visited both locations while visiting Oahu. Online downside is in Halewia my daughter had chickens come up to her and she dropped her cone. I have to pay a full $8 to get her a new one even though the chickens were right outside their location....ice cream is worth it, but didn't like paying full price twice for a kids cone!”
“The best noodles in Honolulu ever. The broth was light but at the same time super delicious. It was not complex and just dreamy. I was craving for more after eating this. Aside from the highlight, the runner up dishes that I tried included the beef stick, small but mighty beef on a stick. The musubi was also very good, perfect size. Overall, service was speedy, humorous, and nice. The waiter we had was just hilarious and welcoming. This place is literally in the middle of nowhere, but this isn't your creepy restaurant, this is a cozy, sanctuary for your noodle cravings . Coming back on my next voyage to Honolulu.”
“Super tasty Garlic Butter shrimp with garlic rice, salad and a slice of pineapple. 5/5. And for sixteen bucks you get your fair garlic dose. Parking is limited though but plenty of seating.”
“It's super delicious and reasonably priced! The plates are large and filling, and the famous chocolate haupia pie is delicious!Even though it's cream and chocolate, why isn't it so boring? ! I ate it the next day too ^_^And we also got breakfast bread and malasadas!Everything is delicious! If I had to say, I was a little disappointed that there was no latte! That's all! !”
“Kilani bakery is an icon in wahiawa. This is a family run bakery for over 60 years.Turn on my favorites is the Danish custard. It's very full of custard. They have glazed donuts, chocolate top donuts, and the chocolate brownies are awesome. It is best to go early in the day cuz by 11:00 they run out of pastries.Well that's a good sign people love their food. But if you go too late, there won't be much left. We will be back for more.Mahalo, Wes n Wanda Anzai.Mililani Hawaii 3-2024”
“A bit pricey, but you get good, tasty burgers. The fancy burgers like Kailua and Kaneohe are fun to eat, but all the extra stuff masks the taste of the patty. If you're craving the meaty taste of burgers, go for the simpler burgers.Parking: It's almost always crowded at Haleiwa, and it's hard to find parking at the shopping center parking lot. It can take 10-15 minutes for a parking spot to open up.”
“I had the pork chop rice and plantains, it was all cooked to perfection! The service was friendly and they have a nice little outdoor dining spot with plants surrounding. Also indoor seating. Lots of great drinks like the kola champagne india. This place is a gem!”
“I rarely make it down to the North Shore but whenever I do - each and every time - i never fail to stop by this bakery! I always stock up on their snow puppies. I don't know what it is, but it is soooo delicious. Not too heavy and not too sweet but JUST the perfect amount. It's the perfect snack after a long day of swimming and it certainly satisfies my cravings. The custard inside is added at just the right amount and the drizzled chocolate on top gives it just the right finishing touches. They have other pastries and items here too but this is definitely what we come for every time!”
