“TL;DR: you will have a good time here.Overall the service and atmosphere are fantastic. The owner, Mike, happened to be in the restaurant and came over to our table to check on us a few times. Personable guy, funny. The food was in a weird spot for me. The sides were dynamite (creole mashed potatoes & and corn bread), the mains that I had (ribs, brisket) were just ok.The rub from the ribs was very smoke forward (my hands and clothes actually smelled of smoke for a while after we left) but I didn't get much in the way of flavor past the smoke. The rib meat was fine, if not a little bland. The brisket was less smoke forward but still that was the primary flavor I got. Additionally the brisket was served in one big hunk and it had the taste and feel of a pot roast moreso than what I expect brisket to taste like. The homemade sauces did a lot to impart flavor though. I would go back and try some of the other offerings though.“
“It was our first time trying this place and we loved the food and Juan's service was great, from the moment he saw us thinking about what to order he was more than willing to help us and recommend what to try. Thanks to him we had a very nice experience“

“First of all I want y'all to know their was ONE man working and he did a fabulous job. This is a hidden gem in DSM! This man was doing everything and his system was down so we had to go get cash and he told us how much ever the fee was he would take off! Like went out of his way to make sure we had a good experience ?. Which we did. Everything tasted great and was so delicious! I love the Mac and cheese! Fiancé and me are stuffed!“
“Lindsey, our waitress was awesome. We ordered the ribs, baked beans, mac and cheese, and onion rings. Wow. The meat fell off the bone, the beans were the best I've ever had. Loved the spicy bbq sauce and the raspberry habenero was fantastic. If you ever pass through Altoona, Iowa, this is a must stop.“
“We walked in it was a small restaurant but I still had my hopes up I ordered chicken fingers, fries, and there cactus ranch the food came after 15 minutes ish but also we had a lot of people order as well my dish arrived as ordered besides the cactus ranch being replaced with regular ranch but the employees happily gave us the cactus ranch for free I went to the men’s restroom and there was a hole in the wall but I just went to wash my hands I walked out and when I took a bite of the fries they could possibly the best fries I have ever had crispy and great the chicken fingers were okay but the cactus ranch was amazing 5/5 stars“
“We had a great meal with excellent wait service. Even with drinks, it didn't cost as much as I was expecting. The only issue was the long wait to get in (party of 10). I know that's not the fault of the restaurant, but it's worth noting if you're planning on going. Once in, we were not rushed to leave and it was appreciated.“
“We stopped for lunch-- our 17th 'cue stop in Iowa, and the 385th in a BBQ journey spanning 35 states. $52.63 plus tip bought a mountain of some of the country's best onion rings for an appetizer. A southwest salad was excellent-- the chicken nicely smoked, and all of the ingredients fresh. The stockyard sandwich is a very good combination of brisket and burnt ends, the brisket sliced and the burnt end cubes well caramelized. Good smoke, moist, tender and flavorful describe both meats. The creamy rigatoni style mac 'n cheese (the side) is rich and full of flavor. A large order of boneless chicken wings went home with us for dinner later that day ... heavenly when dipped in Alabama white. So, yet another good stop for 'cue in the Des Moines area.“
