“I’ve been twice, once to dine in and the other to dine out. The restaurant itself is a great space. It’s small enough to feel intimate and quiet. Both times I’ve had the pastelillos de carne, lechón, y arroz con gandules. The food is SOOOO good! I’m a Puertorriqueño originally from NYC (South Bronx) and Puerto Rican food was not just plentiful at home but in the community. Since moving to the Midwest (first Nebraska, the Minnesota, and now Illinois) I’ve usually had to hope for cuisines that were proximal but not Puerto Rican (Colombian, Venezuelan, Cuban, etc.). Chicago has obviously been much better as it relates to Puerto Rican options but of all the ones I’ve tried to date (within and beyond Humboldt Park) Marina’s takes the prize for feeling most like a home cooked meal. The food is so flavorful. The portions are just right. It may be a bit pricier than some peers but honestly it’s worth it. So glad to have a place much closer to my home in Rogers Park.“
“I'm a frequent diner at Jibaritos y mas but my boyfriend wanted to try something new. We looked up a couple of places and this place came up. It had 4.6 stars so we decided to check them out, and we were so glad we did! I had the steak jibarito which lacked no flavor. The steak was marinated in mojo or vinegar I'm not sure but it was sooo good! My boyfriend had the steak sandwich and loved it as well. The service was awesome! The owners were very nice and talked to us while we ate. We tried their chips with HOMEMADE guava sauce made by Ana ?. Definitely a MUST TRY! I was not disappointed from the minute we walked in til we left. We will definitely be going back!“
“Had the Jibarito sandwich (new food to me). It tasted great! Rice and beans were also good. Very few tables in the place, service was good. It cost a little more than I would have expected, but the cost of restaurant food seems to be going up everywhere, especially in “
“My friend and I was talking about where to eat. He said he wanted a sandwich. I told him if he ever had cafe colao? He said no. So I took him. I love the sandwiches and especially the avena. He liked the sandwich. He said he will return again.“
“An absolutely lovely space and atmosphere, and fantastic service! I only got the tripleta, which was one of the most flavorful *sandwiches* I've ever had, and definitely the most flavorful tripleta. A little unconventional with the toppings for what's normally on a tripleta, and I wish it had more mayoketchup and was on pan sobao, but I can't argue with how tasty it was. Will definitely be back to try their other dishes!“
“I be doing doordash n uber eats, I've been getting orders from there for a while, today I decided to order me some food got me the steak jibarito that comes with arroz con gandules and some sauce on the side n let me sayyy it was delicious, I even got me the chicken empanada n I used the sauce from the jibarito on it n omgggg sooo good. I even got a Pina colada n omg heaven. And the service was awesome everyone so nice and also lots of things to look at while u wait they have a lil boutique. Totally recommend will be coming back“
“I found out I had to host Christmas days before the 25th. I can't describe how friendly, helpful and extremely serviceable they were with me placing a catering order only 2 days from Christmas. Since I needed for the 25th, they opened specifically for my order.....Wow!! The service was phenomenal the food was exceptional!! Truly blessed to have them in the neighborhood! Puerto Rican rice, tostones. lechon, ham and potato salad enough for the entire family (25 people) with left overs for the next day. Thank you doesn't seem enough for the owners. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for great food and service. BTW......pistachio coquito......amazing!!!“
“Cannot remember for the life of me who recommended this place to my dad when i was a teen but we would travel from the southwest side all the way up north just to get the sandwiches here!then i got married & now live very close so of COURSE its so hype i have closer access to it.We would get the sandwich de pollo con lechon and thats what i still get to this day. And their cafe con leche is so fire. The atmosphere is so cute and the service is a 10/10 so friendly!“
“The steak Jibaritos were amazing as take out. I can only imagine eating it right then and there. The rice was very flavorful and tasty with bits of meat in it. The different fried options that weorderedr were all really good. The mofongo was tasty as well. After that experience, I would like to try everything on the menu.“
“Casa Yari is the best for vegan food in Chicago...hands down. The menu is creative, delicious and made with love. Yari is an amazing chef and human all around. Her staff, which includes her daughters, is very knowledgeable about the menu and can guide you on what to get if you're a first timer. Every dish is made to order so a little bit of a wait time is to be expected and well worth it. Be sure to check their website for updated rotating menus as well as some restaurant FAQs (i.e. they stop taking orders about 30 min before close) Heads up, brunch is busy so you most likely won't be able to grab your order to go but you are more than welcome to dine in at the bar if you're solo. They also have an amazing N/A cocktail list for those of you that don't drink. This is not a place to miss if you're a true Chicago foodie!“
“A couple coworkers and myself stopped in for dinner, great atmosphere and comfortable , our waitress and the owner/manager were outstanding, explaining the menu and specials , great service, the empanadas are amazing!! Also tried rice and pork which was very good A+ food and prompt service, see you again soon.“
“Drove from Milwaukee to eat here! Amazing food and server(possibly the owner) was such a humble woman. Energy and atmosphere was really nice as well. Lastly everything we ordered was hot and fresh. ❤️ Thank you for the hospitality Clari and Jenn Milwaukee,WI.“
“I have been coming to La Palma for years, when they were on Homan. They were one of my wedding caterers in 2015! They have delicious Puerto Rican food, even when catering for 200+ people. Antonia is the best part of this restaurant. She's a sweetheart and has a wonderful personality, and really takes care of her customers. I actually didn't know La Palma moved locations until very recently, and I was so happy to find out they're still around. The new location on Grand is so bright and open compared to the Homan location. The food is just as delicious as before! I had a steak jibarito with arroz con gandules, and I was SHOCKED at the portion sizes! I could barely finish one half of the jibarito. My husband's lechon was super tender and flavorful, too. I'm so happy to know this restaurant is still around and that they still cater! I'm already planning my next event to cater through them.“
“This is hands down the best Puerto Rican food I’ve had in the city, and I’ve had a lot! Food is made fresh to order so there’s def a bit of a wait but it is worth it, every little bite. The food here puts my entire family to shame, I’m going to be at thanksgiving dinner wishing I was here instead (sorry mom)! Pork, delicious. Arroz con gandules, best rice I’ve had and now I’m trying to revamp my own recipe. Tostones, nice and crispy with a side of mayo ketchup. Pinchos served with a nub of garlicy bread and bbq sauce. My mom visited from out of state and she said the sorullos here reminded her of my late great grandmother’s back in the island. Just an absolute treat - be careful and don’t get carried away like I did the first time and spend a whole paycheck!“
“Haven't been there in a long long time so my friend took me there yesterday the place is so nice way nicer then the last time I was there when they had a grocery in front not nice looking but it's so nice know there food is ok noting to say wow about.. sorry.. my taste is not the same as others so try for ur self u might think differently..“
“Stopped by the other day to get a carne frita plate. Ive tried most of the other trucks in the park and this one has been the best by far! Rice was delicious and carne was juicy and crispy! My son really enjoyed his chicken pastellio too. Will be back again!“
“I absolutely love this place! Everything is so good here. When me and my boyfriend came here for the first time he almost cried. The food reminded him of his grandmas cooking, she’s not here with us anymore so his heart was just filled with happiness. Good job to the people that make the food and the atmosphere awesome.“
“First time at this place and was not disappointed by the food or service. Great service, the place is on the small side but clean. The waiter is attentive and very hospitable. I had the volcanic with shrimp and my husband the morcilla. Very tasty and not greasy.“
“Today, we hosted a couples shower at Stay and Play Cafe! It was beyond amazing! The owners, Yesenia and Jose were so easy and delightful to work with, the staff was attentive, recommending and teaching games to our guests of all ages, the food was delicious(cheesy eggs and quesitos were scrumptious), and the atmosphere was just perfect! I can't recommend this cafe enough. I look forward to having other functions here and/or coming with a group of friends. I can't wait to start spreading the word to family and friends. Thank you Jose and Yesenia for making our day so special! Anita G.“
