“A True Hidden Gem ! I spent time there in 2014 while temporarily living in Arabi, although I'm sure not much has changed. The music is fabulous, and it's a hidden treasure of a dive pub.”

“Stopped by because I noticed a new sign out front. I had the shrimp tacos and the papusas. Both will have me returning regularly. The owner was there both cooking and serving and she was super kind.As for the beer, they serve in chilled glass steins, which is super rare nowadays! I'd stop in for drinks even if not hungry (although its worth taking something home)Definitely worth a stop if youre in the area or even in the bywater.”

“We love this restaurant! I had the crab and corn bisque, and she had the duck gumbo to start, and it was incredible. I then had the best duck, without question, I have ever had and she had the most amazing rizzoto you can imagine. Five stars is not enough to rate this restaurant. Also, if you go near lunchtime, try the oyster BLT, unbelievable!”

“Checked out SisterHearts for the first time today after driving by it 100 times. I was pleasantly surprised with some of the items I found. I left with a denim skirt that was $5 and some change. I really enjoy their mission and would rather support here than goodwill. They have A LOT of dishes, other housewares, luggage, gowns, and clothes. I wouldn't say there was much home wall decor though which I'm always on the hunt for. The prices are there with goodwill, however some items were definitely overpriced. As for the store itself, It is very cluttered as others have said. I also noticed a lot of the items were just piled on top of each other so it's very hard to dig through the items without throwing stuff around. There are also no fitting rooms but I was able to try stuff on in the bathroom but I'm not sure if that's a regular thing for customers. I think this shop has a lot of potential but they should consider a larger space / being more choosy with some of their inventory. I will definitely return because the staff was friendly and I like their mission.”

“The sandwich was not as fresh as it could be. The bun was a little soggy to me. The digital ordering process was good although it could be faster on it's response time. The overall look and feel is worn and outdated with even damage to the building that has been unrepaired for some time.”

“Bob Boudreau and I were in NOLA for 9 nights. Three of the nights we had reservations at other places with family. Our 1st night we looked up and found Jewel of the South. We loved it so much. we asked our nephew, his medical school advisor and his wife to join us. All three lived in NOLA and had never been here. All 5 of us would definitely go back in a heart beat. Great food. Great atmosphere. Great drinks. Great staff. GREAT ALL AROUND! FIVE STARS for Jewel of the South.”

“Truly one of the best and most unique dining experiences I’ve ever had in my life. A wonderful tribute to Senegalese and Creole food. The staff was absolutely incredible — so friendly and knowledgeable. Explained Senegalese transitions and even started the meal with a table side hand wash. They weren’t stuffy either, which can be common at restaurants at this caliber. They really made our experience top notch, and the food was absolutely delicious. All locally sourced and in season ingredients. Will absolutely tell anyone visiting to go to Dakar.”
