“The Northshore breakfast sandwich is purely addicting and has become my occasional goto. However, I do feel that they get their counter staff from the RMV reject pile. If I'm paying $18 for a really good breakfast sandwich and a very average cold brew, I do not think it's too much to ask for a smile and to be thanked for my business. I was standing with three other customers and we were all in agreement.“

“This is a gem of a vegan "earthy" restaurant one would expect to find in a "University" or college town location like Amherst or Orono. It has this type of great "energy" to it. It is healthy & delish eats, no matter wat anyone's dietary preferences are, having said that, the vegans and veggies amongst us, will be in 7th heaven. The menu is eclectic and offers very Great fare (too much to list, just glance over their online menu). Personally adhering to preferably fermented foods for my own gut health at my age, was pleasantly surprised at their Buffalo wrap featuring Tempe, it was absolutely delish and I'm going bak to order this plus try a lot more of their varied menu.. tip: if U're really hungry, order 2 of your selection, U will enjoy it , tht much!!Vegetarian options: Vegan options abound! This is a truly delish vegan fare eatery!Dietary restrictions: Tell them, they'll accomodate!!Parking: Side parking lot on the side of this eatery, it's free.“

“I've done take out from this place a few times now through a catering app for my job and this place never fails. Despite the large orders it gets, my food has always come on time and with great flavor. I'm not adventurous when it comes to sushi, rather I'm very basic. I have ordered the lunch combo with the crispy onion roll, crunchy shrimp roll, and shrimp dumplings and I've also tried the spicy shrimp tempura and edamame. My favorite has been the onion roll because of the crispy onions on top that provide so much flavor and the crunchy and fresh cucumber. The shrimp in my sushi has always been crispy and the rice is sticky, not hard. The only disappointment has been that the spicy shrimp tempura roll is not spicy but you can fix that with some sriracha. The edamame has a fresh taste.“

“One of the best seafood restaurants in New England. On weekends extremely busy and crowded and ambiance is like eating in a bus station unless you bring your food outside. But these guys are totally impressive filling orders quickly-they have the process totally down. Fried clams and onions rings are amazingly fresh and portions are big. Good coleslaw. Chowder is a little too thin and milky. Free soda refills. Definitely worth a special trip.“

“Enjoyed eating lunch here with friends while visiting. I noticed immediately that the space is smaller, which makes it a pretty tight walk around. Even with a lot of customers the noise level was not to loud. I was disappointed when there was a set of 8 of us and they said we needed to sit at different booths. Eventually we asked if we could move to the side with a booth/table combo so we could all sit together. The waiter was not so happy. The food then was divided by the two tables (not pushed together) and then brought out at very different times. When half of the table had their pizza the other half didn't. Once they had finished then we received ours. The menu was pretty confusing due to the lack of explanation of what they all offer. It does give the description but it doesn't adequately show what they serve as specials or explain it. Turns out after we ordered we found their "march madness" wall that had all the pizzas we could order but would have had no idea what was on each one. The pizza it self was very good. It was not over done and a well rounded pizza. I think it's something I'd eat once but not say it's a "must have" again since IM NOT a huge pizza person.“

The Cookie Monstah Gluten Free • $

“A huge thanks to Cookie Monstah for the ability to rent out one of their trucks for our daughter’s and son-in-law’s Welcome Party the night before their wedding, Memorial Day weekend. They allowed for them to make their own combinations of ice cream cups/cookies and to name them - the names were based on the neighborhoods where they had lived in the North End. The service was great and the ice cream and cookies were top-notch! Thanks to Janelle for all her help in making this such a special occasion!“

“Had a couple of drinks while passing through Salem. Def on the sweet side (not a big fan). Loved being able to order through the machines without standing in line (great for folks with that type of anxiety). They have a cozy room with sound proofing that makes it easier to get some work done, however it was a Sunday afternoon for us and it got quickly crowded with chatter.“

Woodman's ATM Gluten Free • $$$
121 Main St, Essex - 7.32 miles

“This is one of the better "clam shacks" in Massachusetts and in all likelihood the most well-known at least here on the coast. This place is somewhat of a legend which translates to "very popular". In the summer, good luck getting in without waiting quite a long time in line...which I no longer am willing to do. The beauty of coming here "off season" and on a Sunday when the clocks were just turned back the night before is that you are hungry for lunch "earlier", and there are no crowds to speak of. So last Sunday when the clocks said it was 11:30am, it was in reality still 12:30pm in our minds (lunchtime!) as we had not yet had time to adjust to the time change. We've been here many times over the years but not in a very long time so it was nice to be back. Everything looked the same as it always has.We were soon to discover that the overall quality of the food is still quite good. Seafood is pricey these days, so clam shack or not, you're going to have to face the sticker shock. However, Woodman's is not nearly as expensive as another clam-shack/restaurant closer to home and the quality is better. It might be that the sheer volume of business that they do here may keep the prices ever so slightly better than some other places. My favorite thing to order (and what they are known for in particular) are the fried clam bellies. They also sell fried clam strip platters but for me, it is the clam bellies for sure. The bellies are meatier and really have the flavor of the ocean noticeable in each bite. The place is very large with lots of seating both indoors and out. You order at a counter and wait at your table for your number to be called. There is another counter where you can order beer and wine which is served to you right away and you bring to your table.Tom and I both got the clam belly platters, his with onion rings, mine with fries. The portion size was perfect for me but smaller than I remember....but trust me, it is still plenty of food. This is a no frills place that visually kind of reminds me of a camp dining hall.Other menu items include lobsters, lobster rolls, fish sandwiches, crab rolls, steamed clams with drawn butter (another fave of mine), etc. There are a few non-seafood items on the menu as well but that isn't what I'd come here for. There is ample free parking and everything is on one level and easily navigable. There are a few tables that are inexplicably very tight fits but just across the room are larger tables that are easier to maneuver in and out of.This is delicious New England seafood in an unpretentious, unfussy, relaxed setting. One of the reasons I love living in New England is classic seafood in a place just like this.“
