“Good Ethiopian food close to my home. I went in to order since all the apps upchsrge like crazy. I waited maybe 15 minutes for all my food to come out. The Awaze and Lega ribs were pretty good. I ordered the Awaze as beef and Lega as lamb. Both were good but lacked the nuance and extra barber spice that other places produce. They were kind enough to make a couple changes with the veggie platter which I really appreciated. Overall the vibe inside is authentic (albeit a bit smokey from incense) and the food is good.“

“I went to the restaurant Monday night, even for a Monday night the place was packed. My wife and I ordered the special 1 and the special 3. The food was very delicious but the service was even extra ordinary! After our server realized my wife has a hearing problem, she tired to help us order by the few sign language she knows. She told my wife “Going out for dinner experience includes ordering food for yourself so I wanted you to part of it” which made my wife so emotional. By the end of our night we taught her some new sign languages which might help her for other customers. She was so friendly and patient even though the house was so packed. I’m so happy my wife had the experience she did. I didn’t know it met so much to my wife until I saw how happy her face was. I will definitely recommend it for people who have hard of hearing or family member. It will definitely make them happy they are part of the EXPERIENCE rather than sit there while other people order the food for them.“

“I recently visited Letena while on a visit to D.C. from Israel. Amazing food! Great option for those who keep kosher...just ask the super helpful staff about specific preparations. Loved their injera! I often find injera too sour for my personal tastes, but this injera was wonderful!“

“Nazareth is one of the best Ethiopian restaurant in town! The food is authentic and delicious. We ordered TIBS FIRFIR, chickina tibs and Goden tibs served over Njera in family style platter. The Tibs is a perfect balance of spicy and savory. The Y was crispy on the outside and soft chewy on the inside. The ribs firfir is flavorful and satisfying and the portions were huge! The Njera was warm to the touch - a very nice touch! The service is impeccable. The atmosphere at Nazareth is casual and inviting. The owner even came out of the kitchen to greet us and ask about our experience.Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Nazareth. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was inviting. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a great Ethiopian dining experience.“

“I had avoided this place, just 2 minutes walk from my house, for the longest time. First I thought it was a junkfood type coffee and sandwich place. Then when I realised it wasn't fully that, I still thought the name was totally dumb. I did know that I can't keep avoiding it forever, thus, a few months after my friendly neighbourhood convenience store owner heavily talked it up, I went. It is an Ethjiopian-owned spot that caters to the typical coffee shop crowd. They have a mix of normal fare, and some lowbrow version of fusion Ethiopian dishes. I had their altered variant of chechebsa. It wasn't bad as long as I didn't think of it as chechebsa. The place is tiny and quite cosy. I know I'll go back.“

“A lovely Ethiopian restaurant with a cozy atmosphere, the owners are very welcoming. I've had the Kitfo here, some other beef dishes, and lamb. I haven't tried everything so far, but the Kitfo is definitely my favourite! I recommend getting it 100% raw - I haven't gotten sick from eating it and it goes to show you how clean the food prep and restaurant is. Also, the owners sell lentils and Injera chips which are AMAZING. Very well done!“

“This was my first time to an Ethiopian restaurant. Our server guides us through the menu, provided samples to set our palates and made excellent suggestions for the meal. The Yebeg Derek Tibs with lamb as protein was the star. Beef waa good but not as flavorful as the lamb.Teje (honey wine) was soda-level sweet. Enjoyable. Served in authentic glass. Loved that.“

“I stumbled upon this place after checking out several vegan late night options within metro DC and this was one of the few places that was open. I had not had Ethiopian food in a while, so I was excited. I’m glad I went because I was not disappointed because the food was great and tasted fresh, Great size portions for the price and the Injera was amazing. I ordered the vegetarian combination with fried fish. The fish to me was fried just right, it was very well seasoned. I believe one of the veggie dishes was a smashed eggplant and it was definitely one of my favorite parts of the entire meal aside from the fish and the lentils. I ordered my food to go, but inside of the establishment it was clean and the restaurant gave off nice vibes, I would definitely come back for a date night, and or just for Ethiopian food with friends/family because the service was prompt as well. Definitely give them a try if you’re in the area, I can’t wait to go back and try the Doro Wat and Kitfo“

“My sister and I enjoyed a wonderful authentic meal at Melekete Restaurant. The waitresses were very friendly with beautiful smiles and they helped us pronounce the names of the entrees. The atmosphere was very cozy and the light jazz complements the setting. At the end of the dinner, we were both surprised when the waitress brought a complimentary slice of strawberry shortcake for my sister and then the whole restaurant lit up with the “Happy Birthday to Ya” song by Stevie Wonder. It was an unforgettable evening. Thank you for a job well done, Melekete Restaurant! We will come back to see you soon!“
“The capuccino was amazing! We dont live around here so our usual coffee shops are like starbucks, etc. We tried this place because it was near our destination and it was amazing! It was what we call real coffee. The customer service was great, the workers were so sweet and gave us recommendations on what to order. Its a cute bookstore and meeting place with ethiopian food and coffee. Definitely recommend if you want some real coffee or something different than your usual starbucks.“

“We wanted to experience authentic Ethiopian cuisine. This restaurant did not disappoint! We were welcomed with open arms and the gentleman was very nice and helpful in helping us decide what to order. We tried the axum special which was steak (well done) and the fish dish. They served both our meals on the same plate which was a nice experience to share and eat together. Of course this was full experience, eating with our hands. Nice!!We will definitely visit again!“

Though we ordered the same food as it was fasting time- veggie combo and fish gulash. We'll definitely come back to try the different tibs.“

“Walked in 10 hours from my last solid meal and ordered the chicken tibs. They turned out to be too spicy for me, and I was preparing to pay and leave disappointed. The waitress saw I hadn't finished, and the cook came out, apologized personally, and cooked a milder dish at no charge. I don't get service like that every day! The new chicken was great.“

“Zemen market has quickly become my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in the area. The beef tibs with a veggie combo were simply fantastic and now I can't wait to explore the menu some more. Everything was cooked perfectly with big, delicious flavors! Even with the favorites of Tom Sietsema down the road I would chose Zemen 10 out of 10 times. Please do yourself a favor and get your next dinner here. I am so happy I found this place!“
