The food is piping hot and so fantastic. This change has just happened in the last few months so please give this location a try! “Stumbled upon this place while waiting for a haircut and couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised! SUCH a cute place with loads of STL history. I ordered a half fig, ham, & gouda grilled cheese and a side Stutz salad. The service was quick and friendly, despite the full house on a Saturday afternoon lunch hour. The grilled cheese was PERFECTION: the fig was a gentle enough sweetness that balanced out the gouda and ham wonderfully. The Stutz salad--named after one of the cars from this place's history!--was a delightful spring treat, with baby mandarin orange slices, homemade poppyseed dressing, and fresh goat cheese. I often forget how MUCH I love goat cheese when it's paired properly! What a great spot and what a great meal.“

The exceptional service began with Sunny, who skillfully handled my reservation, and continued with David's warm welcome at the door. My server, Joshua, was simply outstanding, ensuring that my visit was nothing short of perfect. What truly set this experience apart was the meticulous attention to dietary restrictions for both me and my guests. It's rare to find a restaurant that genuinely cares and accommodates with such grace. The meal was unforgettable, leaving me talking about it for weeks. But the cherry on top was a chance encounter with Joseph on the sidewalk days later. His genuine follow-up about my experience showcased a level of care and knowledge that is unparalleled in the industry. The Crossing in Clayton is not just a restaurant; it's an experience where the staff goes above and beyond, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking culinary excellence and exceptional service."“

You don't see a lot of truly warm and cozy restaurants nestled within the neighborhood that's prospered. The food was good and service was excellent and as we have visited restaurants month after months, it's obvious that cooks aren't same. There is space for indoor & outdoor eating with limited parking. Nice afternoon luncheon experience ?Parking: Free parking in rear where u have a short walk from vehicle into establishment, but if full being that it's sitting in residential area, one can park on side street, no meters, & without inconveniencing residents.Kid-friendliness: Kids were running around where we sat indoors but no one seemed disturbed by their antics ?“

“Our server Josh (yes, coincidence) nailed it. Attentive but not overbearing. The cocktails were a hit too, and I'd recommend the Apple Bottom Jeans and the Violet Mojito. My wife and I stuck to small plates as we weren't in the mood for large plates. The lobster roll was out of this world, and while it looks small, they manage to pack so much delectable lobster into it. The pork belly was also incredible though it was light on the amount of pork belly in it. The spam fried rice was really good. The chili flakes elevate the entire plate, but if you don't like spicy food, I might suggest you get something else. Finally, the cheddar biscuits...they weren't very good. They were a bit tough, not fluffy, and were portioned in a way that made them awkward to eat (too tall). I would not recommend the biscuits. But overall, great experience, 4.5/5.“

“Overall, a great space near CWE to get sandwiches and burgers with friends. Good cocktails too!WAIT TIME: We had a dinner reservation for a larger party for 7:30 on a Saturday and we were seated immediately.FOOD: I ordered the classic burger and the guava lamp drink. The burger was very tasty and the fries are delicious! Would recommend. I heard from others in my party that the chicken sandwich was very tasty as well. The guava lamp drink was quite interesting looking, and it had decent taste. It was somewhat unique so only get if you’re ready to try some new flavor combos. It was very strong too.SERVICE: QR code menu was easy to access, and our server was attentive, often asking if we needed drink refills.AMBIANCE: The decor and layout works well, it’s a more modern look with lots of pretty lights and a bar. A great spot to come with a group of friends!PRICE: Dishes were roughly between $15-25, and drinks around $15. Pretty comparable prices to similar restaurants.“

“MUST VISIT IN STL! Coming from NYC, this is hands down one of the best spots I’ve been to lately from the drinks, food, service, and all around vibes. They put an incredible amount of detail into everything and it shows. The craft cocktails are innovative, yet approachable, and extremely well-balanced. They also carry a unique variety of spirits on the menu that you can’t find anywhere else. One drink I especially loved and recommend is the Budgy Smuggler made with their housemade clarified milk. You can also order off the entire Yellowbelly food menu (sister restaurant next door) and every dish we tried was amazing. Get the raw and hot fried oysters, beef fat fries, lump crab fritters, elote taquitos, brussels, charred carrots, pork belly, green curry salmon, and grilled hangar steak. Everything was cooked perfectly and the flavors were so unique. This should be a must stop if you’re in STL and also a great event space. I can’t wait to go back!“

I know of no other place in St Louis that even serves Vienna beef anymore so it's always a big tree whenever I get to enjoy a Chicago dog and some cheese fries from wolfies. my only criticism is I wish they'd stay open a little later, they usually close at 5 “

“I've eaten here many times but my last visit was awful. While I was finishing my meal this lady walked out with a dog.I didn't know they allowed animals. So i asked the waitress and she said if the animal was a service animal. I could smell the dog and it stinked. She said that they only allowed service animals. The owner came in while we were talking and I talked to him about it. He said dog owners are supposed to show I'd to show that the dog is a service animal. But they don't make every owner do it.I don't like eating with animals. Esp ones that stink. At least putSigns at the front door that let's your guest know that animals are allowed here. It's all about the Benjamin's!I'm not going back!“

“We stayed at the Cheshire hotel and were fortunate to have Basso on the premises! We met a friend here the first night of our stay. The restaurant is in the basement. The atmosphere was inviting with gas lit wall lights, a center bar with booths and high tops. Autumn was a wonderful server. She was so pleasant and informative. We really enjoyed having her as our server. Happy hour is from 4 to 6. We tried the fried meatballs, which were great. The lemon ravioli and the shrimp pasta dish were both delicious. Prices were reasonable. When you dine, the food taste and quality are top priority, but when the food is phenomenal and the service and atmosphere are just as good, it makes the experience memorable. We ended up returning on our second night! Julie was our server and we really enjoyed her, too. She was helpful and interested in our satisfaction! We tried the Brussel sprouts, an heirloom salad with delicious bread. Our entrees were the butcher steak and the burger. The steak was wood fired and super tender! The burger was delicious. The fries and shishito peppers were very good. We highly recommend this hidden gem and thank Autumn and Julie for making our stay in St. Louis so memorable! Oh, try the Secret Door specialty drink, a next level Old Fashioned“

“Step back in time, in the best way! We were in the area and searched Jewish deli to find a bagel and schmear and were pleasantly surprised to find this old school kosher deli. We had the bagel and lox with some STL Goat chips. We also had a bagel with meat and mustard. We hadn't had fresh kosher hard salami like this since the 80s n NY and Long Island. If you want to try Protzels I would suggest calling in your order. There was a steady stream of to go orders going out tge door.“

“I made a lunch reservation online for my mom's birthday about a week in advance, they made sure to accommodate all special requests that were submitted along with it. The hostess and our waiter both wished her a happy birthday upon greeting us and sat us in from of the window as previously requested. We ordered crispy Brussels sprouts and a couple sandwiches to share. Everything was served in a timely manner, courses were spread evenly apart. The atmosphere is light, open and spacious. I absolutely love the floor to ceiling windows and all the natural light. We had a great time and they gave us a complementary birthday treat. Our waiter made a point to ask if we were members of the museum and applied our membership discount to our bill. I thought that was extremely kind of him especially because I did not realize that was a perk and wouldn't have known to ask. 10/10“

Old Rock House American • $$
1200 S 7th St, St. Louis - 12.06 miles

“I have been to Old Rock House a few times for EDM shows. It's very casual and fun. There are two floors which I love - you can be in the pit downstairs or hang upstairs for a more chill vibe and there is even some seating. There is also an outdoor area where you can get some air. They keep the temperature inside very balanced, though it gets hotter as the night goes on like most places. A bar on each floor which keeps the wait for a drink very short. They are really strict about the one drink per person rule (like if you're getting a drink for a friend, the friend has to be physically there too). I don't mind the rule but I saw others get a little grouchy about it. There is a $10 minimum. They have a great selection of liquor though nothing super fancy. Drink prices are normal and affordable for a music venue. The bartenders are super fun, especially the one named "Smash." I often see staff engaging with patrons and even dancing to the music, making the vibe really fun and welcoming. The crowds there, the times I have been there, are usually fun and polite albeit drunk. I have been offered drugs there a couple of times but no one was ever aggressive about it. There is staff everywhere so it feels safe. The crowd tends to be MESSY though - the STICKIEST floors! The bathrooms are a downside because there are only 2 stalls and the restroom is small overall. It's usually well stocked, though. The sound is pretty good for such a casual venue, too. I don't ever feel like it's muffled or too loud, the volume is balanced and it sounds good from both the bottom and the top floor. Lighting wise, they need more lasers! Parking can be a challenge at times (depending on when you get there) but there is a pretty big lot and a small area of street parking.“

“Excellent service each time, which always makes a difference when you eat out. Delicious food, my go-to are the "2 for you" options. Salads, soups, and sandwiches are all delicious. Some items are not worth the price IMO, such as the pancakes. The tables in the far back can get loud, long wait times during brunch.“

“I would give this place 4.5 if that was an option, the food was delicious, the best thing in my opinion were the sides of the proteins, the carrots were probably the best ones I’ve had amazing, potatoes amazing and cauliflower very tasty. The meals as I said, 5/5!. The whole experience and service was maybe 3.5/5. The timing of the meal felt at first rush, we got the first course and we still had basically full cocktails, no much mention on the wines and pairings (we ended sharing a couple of glasses of wine we picked out the menu and turned out good). Despite my complaints I recommend this place, the food was good and with the changes coming with the a la carte menu, I’m excited to try other dishes.“
