On a random Tuesday while out adulting, I decided to stop by Maiz Agua Sal for a late lunch, and I was pleasantly surprised. The decor is refreshing and modern, with the tree at the entrance being a standout design feature—it sets a great tone for the dining experience. We were seated immediately, and the service throughout was superb. Our waitress was delightful and very knowledgeable about the menu, making the experience even better.

The complimentary chips and salsa were a hit, and the peanut salsa was a pleasant surprise. Trust me, don’t knock it until you try it! The guacamole was incredibly fresh, and the tacos were delicious. Their 3 for $10 taco special is a great deal, and each one was packed with flavor. I also tried the Huarache De Tinga, which was absolutely delicious.

I almost forgot to mention the churros—a perfect way to end the meal! They were a sweet, satisfying treat that tied the whole experience together.

Although I was only there for lunch, I’m already planning to return to enjoy their drinks and check out the cool fire pit outside. Maiz Agua Sal is a fantastic spot for great food, a relaxed atmosphere, and exceptional service. Highly recommend!“

I usually take my food out instead of eating since it's so small and tight in there. Parking is a pain because it's a shared parking lot with the other businesses and a gas station surrounding it, but if they there when they open you can deal with it lol.“

Still, we enjoyed their food in the past, and we like to support local businesses in our community. First, no more chips and salsa when you sit down ... not even an offering. What Mexican restaurant doesn't have chips and salsa when you sit down? And for dinner I ordered a taco salad, sans beans, cheese and pico. I subbed rice and mushrooms. I was charged $9.95 for the shell and lettuce, $3 for rice and $4 for mushrooms. I have ordered this veggie alternative for years at several places - never have I been charged $17 for a "salad". Had the waitress mentioned the upcharge at the time I ordered, I could have made a decision to go ahead or to change my order. But she NEVER mentioned the additional cost. Sadly, they lost 3 local customers tonight, as well as being one of the catering / community meetup options we were just discussing 30 minutes earlier. Be fair. Be transparent. Discuss additional costs instead of simply charging and assuming your customers want to pay extra - again, I would have changed my order. Adios Que Onda!“

“I can’t say enough about my incredible experience at Mexicali Restaurant! From the moment I walked in, I was met with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that set the tone for an unforgettable dining experience.

The service was absolutely outstanding. Brithney and Stefanie went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. They were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, offering excellent recommendations and ensuring we had everything we needed throughout the meal.

Now, onto the food—wow! I started with the guacamole, which was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The sopes were an absolute highlight: crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and topped with the most delicious ingredients. A pitcher of margaritas was the perfect pairing—refreshing, tangy, and just the right amount of kick. To top it all off, the flan was the grand finale I didn’t know I needed: creamy, silky, and a perfect blend of sweetness to end the meal on a high note.

“Tried Que Onda for a bday celebration around lunch time on a Friday. This specific location wasn’t busy. We were seated right away and the food came out quickly and hot not long after we ordered. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Nachos and was highly impressed. Not only was it a decent amount of food for your money, but it was simply delicious! The service wasn’t all that great and the restaurant shares parking with other businesses. I would recommend trying here although I would try a different location to see if service is better there!“

We had great service from our server Noah, who was very quick to take our drink order and provided attentive service for our entire dinner. We both ordered a Chimichangas (my wife had the chicken and I had the beef). Both were delicious, well seasoned and served hot. (fwiw) noted the staff were sweeping and cleaning the restaurant tables quickly, after a table turned.“

“I loved the food! It was sooo delicious. I ordered the chicken taquitos as a starter. I loved it. The flavor was so good. I wish I ordered more. I also ordered the Jardín tacos which is the veggie tacos. Those were also super good. They’re really good with bringing a lot of flavor to their food. I also appreciate gluten free options, I don’t digest gluten well so this always a plus. My server was super nice and attentive!!

“We went on a Friday evening around 6, it was starting to get busy but not too bad. We were able to get a table for 2 right away. We were sat outside which was great since it was perfect fall weather! The decor is super cute and well done! The food is good and priced on the lower side. They have cute cocktails. The prickly pear margarita was my favorite. Our server was very attentive. The manger came around to check on us too. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. We'll be back!“

“Johnny Burrito is THE burrito spot of Charlotte. I work downtown and make it a habit of stopping in, usually on “Fireball Friday.”
The one negative is it typically has a line stretching down the hallway because the spot/food are so popular. The line moves quickly though and if you’re concerned try to get there when it opens at 11 (or 10:50 if you really want to beat the wait).

“I came in to try their version of Pollo fritto- fried chicken. This chicken was well marinated- fried to perfection and the sauces- 1 avocado salsa and 1 salsa picante were heavenly 😋 they underestimated me as they were unaware I am fluent in Spanish so I quickly changed the interaction ordering my food in Spanish and we both smiled and chatted while I waited for my food. This place is so welcoming and warm with great authentic dishes and I love the fact they make tortillas from scratch! The taste is so much better and natural!“

“New customer and was generally impressed. First, the atmosphere is good. The lighting medium, not too bright and not too dark. Just right. There is DJ music and it’s not overly loud which is good. Some places the music is so loud you have to yell at your dinner partner. That’s bad. There are a couple of TVs if you need to keep track of a game, which is also good. And the chips and salsa are fantastic. Some of the best I’ve ever had. Ok, now a couple of mild negatives. I had the burrito and it was too salty. I have high blood pressure so this was somewhat of an issue. And if you want wine you have two choices: red and white and both are in a can. Cans? Really? How difficult is it to have maybe six basic varietals at the bar and in a bottle? That’s all. Good place overall. We will go back.

Parking: There’s street parking right next to the restaurant but it’s limited. In lieu of that there’s a deck right there too.“
