“After a bit of shopping in the area, I took a stopoff here to get a bite to eat before heading home. I had my favorite, the beef teriyaki and hoped for a nice sit down. The teriyaki was, as with all the Sarkus I have eaten at, high standard , with the beef being tender and well done, the steamed vegetables tender and crisp, with the rice complimenting the others, by giving itself a nice flavor by absorbing the juices and the teriyaki sauce, which was slightly sweeter than the usual Sarku's and more enjoyable. There was one thing here that unfortunately, turned my delicious meal enjoyed presently into a delicious meal that I had to defer enjoying until I was home. The cause of my having to suddenly stop my meal and take it to go was the fact that they were playing the worst possible music for digestion over the air: hip hop. Now I understand that this is a semi urban area and you want to try to appeal to the local population, but hip hop is absolutely inconducive for digestion, as tests have shown. I have participated in a couple of these tests and can give you first hand knowledge of this. So after a couple of bites, to avoid an upset stomach, I quickly closed my meal, and took the remainder home, where I enjoyed it much better. I love the food here, but in any future visits, I will take my orders to go.Vegetarian options: Salads and veggie rolls options are available.Kid-friendliness: Bright and cheerful serviceParking: Large parking lotWheelchair accessibility: Easy entry. “March 2024:We went here a 2nd time for dinner. This time on the weekend. The restaurant was full. It was hectic. Unfortunately also with the service. This time the stress was clearly noticeable. The dishes were no longer always explained beautifully. That's a real shame, especially when it comes to the chef's work. You would have to take this time because it is not exactly standard sushi. The creations require explanation to be fully enjoyed. You didn't notice anything about the quality of the food. These were still at the highest level. My recommendation: one to two more people in service or otherwise accept fewer reservations. The noise level was also unpleasantly high because of all the people. That's why now only 4 instead of 5 stars.September 2023We were here for dinner. I recommend a reservation. We had the sushi and handroll menu. The quality of the sushi I selected was the best I have ever had, and I have been to many Japanese restaurants, including Masa in NYC. The quality was excellent and even with the small toppings, which fit perfectly, it was a really great experience. It was so good that we ordered some more sushi instead of dessert. The service was attentive. There is also a good selection of sake and Japanese beers here.“
“Prob a 4.5 stars, but given the lack of granularity in star rating, I'll give it a 5. Great omakase option, and the wings here are superb. I love wings, and didn't expect to find some of the best wings in the city at a Japanese restaurant, but I would keep coming back here just for that appetizer. Fair warning they come out piping hot, so you can burn your mouth if you are not careful. My wife loves the sashimi, I'm generally not a fan of raw fish, but I've had some bites and their fish is of great quality and freshness.“
“Went here to celebrate a wedding anniversary, and thought it was great. The omakase had a strong lineup of appetizers and followed with some of the best nigiri I've ever had, and I've been to multiple Michelin rated sushi spots. Here are some of my cliff notes...1.) The food is amazing2.) The environment itself is a little loud and loose. I'm cool with that, but its not a traditional style.3.) The omakase, which I believe is their only option, is $300/pp. This is on the expensive side, plus a bottle sake starts at $200 - $250. Be prepared to spend money.4.) The service was very good. The sommelier and staff were very knowledgeable and gave good recommendations. Chefs were on point.“
“Sushi by bou is easily my favorite dining experience in NY and NJ. The food quality is stellar, the staff is always so friendly and helpful, the music is great, and the restaurant itself is aesthetically calm and vibey. Great spot for a group of friends, date night, or even a solo treat yourself night. ?“
“Small and absolutely perfect. Make reservations! Also open for lunch on some days and there is a sushi bar available. The sushi is unique in that each piece is individually wrapped in sustainable plastic so the nori retains its crunchiness. Have you ever noticed that nori on typical sushi is soggy? I didn't either, until I tried the crunchy nori at Nami Nori. So good! The whole table was raving about it. We had a business lunch here with 6 guests from NYC and LA. Everyone thought it was spectacular. It was a wonderful way to show off the amazing restaurant scene in Montclair. Beautiful minimalist space. Pretty expensive so date night or special occassion appropriate. Will be back!Vegetarian options: They are good about veg options. Several on the menu.Dietary restrictions: They ask up front and seem very diligent. Top notch.Parking: Street or garage only.Kid-friendliness: Not super kid friendly but could work for sushi-loving adventurous kids who can handle fine dining.“
“The food is quite tasty (had the ramen & wings appetizers which were delish) and the service (server *Kenny* made us feel welcome and actually listened to us and went ABOVE & BEYOND with great service & hospitality) & the ambience & vibe were well lit - and the decor was very pretty and lush all at very affordable prices. Minimal wait times to get in. Great to hang out with small and large parties with PLENTY OF PARKING. Would come back again. Thank you !“
“The staff were extremely accommodating and super sweet. And omg the food was to die for. So fresh and portions were amazing and the hand rolls and crispy sushi were also really good. Please try it out if you’re looking for an amazing experience! The best sushi in town!“
“Decor was of a bistro and had ample space. The staff very welcoming, helpful, and professional. This is farm to table restaurant The food was high quality, freshly prepared but came out in a timely fashion. The grilled whole Bronzino and the pork skewers really went above and beyond for the little touches that might get overlooked show a real pride in their food and service. The owner definitely went above and beyond to make a great experience even better. We will definitely be back again soon.“
“Every single dish was so unique, flavorful, filling and exceeded our expectation. Our favorites were the soft shell grab sandwich CEC sandwich and the thick cut bacon dish. The service was also great for how busy they were at closing time. They even gave us free chicken for our wait. Will definitely be back here soon!!“
“Hubby had his first and best omakase experience. We went for our 24th anniversary celebration. At first, before the omakase begins, hubby was like “I only like salmon because of its buttery taste. I don’t like any other fish” and then next thing I hear was “omg, this fish so good”; “omg, this fish is also yummy”; “oh this fish is so fresh and tasty” ? ? I laughed at him and asked if he still likes salmon ONLY. He says no. Yay! Mission accomplished!!“
“"I had an incredible dining experience at Michik restaurant in NYC! The food was absolutely amazing - I had the steak, and it was cooked to perfection. The flavors were bold and delicious, and I couldn't get enough of it. The service was also top-notch - our waiter was attentive, accommodating, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The ambiance of the restaurant was perfect - it had a great atmosphere, and the decor was beautiful. Overall, I would highly recommend Michik to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience in NYC. I can't wait to go back!"“
“Best sushi spot on the island!!!! The sushi is always so fresh and FAST!! It takes no more than 30 mins from placing the order to eat it. They are all soooo sweet as well. When we sit in to eat, it always the best service. Always my sushi spot.“
“I am very impressed with this restaurant. It’s not big, but it’s very comfortable. The lighting is just right, the music is not loud but more than anything. The sushi is delicious. The rice is perfectly cooked and the rolls are very good. Seaweed salad was great. No fishy smell or liquidy after taste. I also love the presentation. Came in these really cute wooden boats.Parking: Must try! Very good sushi rolls. Nice Waitress too“
“It's been years since I've been to this place and I must say that the quality of the sushi, the extra large rolls, and most importantly, the taste makes this place stand out among the other sushi places in the area. Owners are friendly and personable and the fish is always fresh. If you haven't been to this place in a while, I absolutely recommend giving it another try.“
“Great service and quality, but a bit lacking in quantity. I ordered the chili ramen, and it came with just one slice of pork. It was good, but only one? Would have hoped for at least two. Price was about average for ramen in NYC ($18). The ramen broth had the right amount of salt, umami, and thickness. The pork belly was charred well. The noodles a bouncy texture and nice bite.I also ordered the salmon handroll which honestly was not worth the price ($7). The salmon was a small sliver the size of my index finger. Mostly stuffed with rice.Stick to the ramen and you’ll be satisfied - not stuffed, but satisfied.Parking: Narrow streets in financial district - avoid driving in.Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs to enter the restaurant.“
“Excellent experience! The food was phenomenal and the staff, extremely attentive. I did the 18 piece and went solo, booked last minute reservation as I was craving sushi but wanted the omakase experience close to home. I was a bit disappointed in the Big Mac because the beef was too chewy to swallow but still this place is highly recommend!“
“My partner and I go here as a regular. The shrimp spring rolls with the sauce is great. The inside service is always good. There music and conversation but usually not overly loud. The take out has been late on occasions which means more than an hour in this case. Other wise love it.“
“We truly enjoyed every bite and the delicious custom cocktails they make. The chefs are amazing and personable, they make the experience just top tier. Thank you for offering such an amazing experience Steven had a wonderful birthday because of sushi by bou and their team!“
“I stopped by Ajisai on Duane this evening for a high quality, yet not too formal, solo dinner. The exterior is unassuming, but the interior is quite welcoming (light colored wood panel walls, cute white paper lantern lamps, etc.)For my meal, I had miso soup, two a la carte pieces of sushi (sea scallop and toro), and chirashi as the main. All of the fish was fresh, and the chirashi was plated in a unique, attractive way. Side note: in addition to the standard pickled ginger and wasabi, the chirashi was served with pickled daikon on the side, which I love, but don't tend to see too often. Finally, the service was great: my server took the time to read back my order for confirmation, the food came out quickly, and my drinks (water and hot tea) were continually kept full. In short: stop by this spot, I think you'll enjoy it!P.S.: The music was on point, in my opinion, to the point where much of it overlapped with my personal playlist. The reader can take that for what they will, I guess!“
“What can I say. So good. Service / atmosphere /food. We ordered the Chef’s Roll, Salmon Skin, the Caterpillar and Pink Lady. They were all good but my favorite was the Chef’s Roll. The only critic I can add is that seating could be more comfortable. But otherwise just great food.“
“Everything at Momo is absolutely fantastic. The salmon teriyaki bento box is to die for with a rotating selection of delicious homemade sides. I order lunch daily from here, and everything — the sushi rolls, the rice bowls the sides, are all excellent. The staff is top notch This place has saved us all at lunchtime out at the Brooklyn army terminal.“
“I got the aji katsu sando and a mochi an pan (mochi and red bean paste filling with matcha dust on top). The sando had perfect soft bread, crispy fish, and a nice amount of cucumber for balance. The mochi pastry was soft and not too sweet, just perfection. For both it was $8.50 with tax, super yummy lunch.“
“Made reservations ahead of time for my daughter's birthday and we all had a great time! Taken care of and accommodated quickly. Staff very friendly and entertaining. Food was very good and hot sake was delicious!!My daughter was very happy, thank you Arirang!“
“What an incredible omakase EXPERIENCE. So much so I forgot to take any pictures! It's funny my wife and I used to live by Honshu and still stop by from time to time, but years ago we did Honshu's Omakase and had such a nice time I wrote a review. Well, their spin off, Nigiri is meant for omakase and they hit it out of park. They've made what used to be their front porch quite elevated, cool seating areas away from the chefs table and then a nice chefs table. We did the 15 course menu and our chef explained everything so thoughtfully, starting light and progressing through the meal. The first course was a 3 piece one, I won't ruin it, but a raw oyster, egg, and croissant of sorts with some special sushi surprises overlayed perfectly on all. Was TREMENDOUS. I won't go into every fish but you get such a widespread sampling with multiple ingredients perfectly combined to elevate the taste. Nothing is needed. Just pick up the fish and enjoy. I'm a big sea urchin guy, by time we had that piece it almost was lost in the crowd for me as everything was just so much better than what I'm used to. I'm salivating as I write this review. I've done maybe a dozen or so omakase meals over the years, Honshu and Nigiri are both at top of my list, but this one takes the crown, honestly best I've had. Bravo.“
“I started eating sushi right about the time I started dating. This puts me at around 20 years old. Fairly late to the game, but hey, acne sucks. Took me awhile to figure out washing excessively is just as bad as being a greasy kid. So yea, I was about 20 years old & still trying to get past a goalie, if you know what I mean. The first time I had sushi was at a restaurant in Newport. I only went there because my brother recommended it & he explained I needed to order specific sushi rolls. He knew I was a beginner so he told me to get a California Roll, Spicy Tuna as well as a few others. My memory is that of a goldfish, so to this day I still only remember Cali/Tuna rolls. Nonetheless, the sushi during that date was a hit, even if I wasn't.I kept at it, like a relentless paramour. Date after date I devoured sushi. What I started noticing was that ordering was better left to the date, as I almost always ordered something weird. Cali/Tuna were always there for me to make me appear somewhat knowledgeable, but anything other than that was beyond my mental capacity.Eventually I found a girl who knew how to order. Literally every single time I went out for sushi with her it was a mouth watering delight. So of course, I had to marry this broad. You don't let these get away. So I got her a diamond, they said it was conflict free, & to this day we make it a point to get sushi at least once a week. After finding the girl, there are certain prerogatives you must take in life. If my first was my fiancé, then the 2nd one was a sushi restaurant. Everyone has one, so this quest to discover mine took precedence over all else. Having found my lady, it was up to her to guide me through the myriad restaurants that the tri-state area had to offer. I of course would never be able to do so. So she fulfilled her role.Itto Sushi is just a few blocks away from our apartment. I'm actually functionally illiterate when it comes to maps. Even GPS will not save me from starving to death if it ever came down to it. So my fiancé lets me track her on her phone. No, it's not a trust thing, it's literally a safety thing. I get lost going to the bathroom. I only mention this because of how convenient it was when she said just come to where I am. And that's how I ended up in Itto Sushi. The restaurant itself is not overwhelmingly large. It's a nice comfortable size, where even I won't get lost going to the restroom. The sushi bar is towards the back & you can see all the fresh ingredients laid out ready to be served. There are always multiple chefs working, which I've learned are called Itamaes & Shokunins. These guys are truly worthy of their titles.I don't even bother looking at the menu. My fiancé does her job. She rips through 4 rolls & at least 2 Sashimis. Since I've become a regular at Itto, I've learned how to properly beg for a 5th. To this day I still have not been able to convince her to get 6 rolls. Truth is, my belly can only really handle 5, but I may be somewhat of an addict at this point.Itto Sushi' sushi is literally the freshest I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. Their sashimi is also at that level. Both my fiance & I marvel at the relentless & assorted Unami that Itto offers. It's gotten to the point that we literally judge any other sushi place we go to with how well they match up against Itto. No one comes close. So I have my future bride, who in turn got me my sushi spot. I got it made. I'm scoring goals left & right here. Now all that remains is my mission to get that 6th roll. I mean, how do you say no to a cool little boat filled to the brim with sushi? You can't. You simply can't at Itto. The battle to discover my sushi spot has been won, but the war for that 6th roll rages on.“
“I always hoped for an excellent yakatori spot near Hoboken - never would have guessed it would be a dedicated chef working over red hot coals in front of the Starbucks on Newark. Bless this man.I ordered 2 mushroom skewers & one chicken. Was VERY VERY good. Like, I haven't had skewers this good since hitting up that Michelin star Yakatori spot in the city (I do hope they still exist, its been a while).Admittedly, I've passed by him MANY times before making a purchase. I was always either on my way to a lunch with someone in the city or on my way back from one. This time, funnily enough, I was coming back from having handrolls at a nice place. You'd figure I'd be Japan'd out - nope - there was capacity and I had put it off long enough. Was very much worth it. Don't make the same mistake I did, just go for it.It does take time for him to do his magic - he suggested in the future that I could get the order going in advance by sending a message on Instagram. Will take him up on that next time - especially when it's freezing out.“
“Staff is super friendly and attentive. First time, and they treated us like we've been coming here for years. Rolls are delicious! Above par. Ramen hit the spot on a cold day but certainly not the best in the area. Ani Ramen still retains that title. However, if you're looking for great service, a solid asian fusion selection, and tasty rolls, it's hard to go wrong here. ? They even have some Korean dishes like bulgogi and bibimbap. Overall, happy customer. ?“
“We ordered the mizu, kiss of summer, Naruto, jade, and Verona and they were all so fresh and delicious. Lots of fish and lots of flavor. I do think the mango could be more ripe though. Tap water also wasn't my favorite but don't let that prevent you from getting this great sushi. Although we couldn't have any of the sauces that came with the rolls since they had gluten, they did have GF soy sauce which was great. The server didn't have much personality and we did have to reconfirm what sauces had gluten and which didn't and had to ask for a second GF soy sauce as well even though in the beginning we did say there are two of us. Pretty empty at 5pm on a Sunday and plenty of free parking (on Sundays) around the corner.“
“Nice sushi place in east village. It has the sports bar ambient with Japanese food. If you want to go to a relaxed place and enjoy very decent rolls, this is your place. Lots of young people, cheerful ambient and relaxed atmosphere. Rolls are pretty good, western versions but tasty and fresh. Good prices for New York.“
“I went for dinner with my son who loves sushi. We immediately were greeted warmly by the staff and were made to feel comfortable. The sushi rolls, gyoza and soup we ordered were fantastic and the prices were very reasonable. We went for the all you can eat which was a very good value. In addition, they brought us a roll and appetizer on the house. Overall it was a great experience, and I look forward to coming back.“
“The menu boasts a diverse selection of sushi rolls, each dish a masterpiece of flavor and presentation. With impeccable service and attention to detail, this spot delivers an unforgettable dining experience that will leave you craving more.Suggestions: Caribbean roll and shrimp tempura roll“
“This is my favorite go to spot in the Brooklyn area... Always fresh and always great service.... The value WAS the best part, not so much the case anymore, still worth it.Order the JACK ROLL and follow me on Instagram@AbiteOUTwithJACK for more great food finds!“
“Very homey vibe, as the place is verrrry small. There are maybe 4 seats at the counter and then a small table. That’s it. You can see the kitchen working. I got the pork ramen, which was definitely a little bland. Presentation was great. The mushrooms were probably the tastiest part. I really admire the effort and cozy ambience though, and I imagine people normally come here for the bento dishes and grab takeout.“
“This is our go to spot for Japanese food in our area. Their dinner box has so much food for the price, definitely will have leftovers. Most of them time, will even order it over their lunch special. Love their katsu and their special rolls too!“
“icca's Italian Japanese tasting course is not very Italian, but delicious nonetheless. The restaurant itself is quiet and unassuming, but operates very smoothly. Unlike other tasting course menus, you will definitely leave full (and they will even ask you if you want a larger portion size towards the end), so come hungry! The dishes are generally fun, and the ingredients are definitely high quality.I'd say the best courses were the cold pasta with tuna tartare and caviar (could eat a whole bowl of this!), apple compote and caramel mousse dessert, and the mackerel with truffle, while the tokachi herb beef fell short (a little bit too sweet and uncomfortably rich), as well as the red snapper fritto (the brussel sprout and sauce was great, but the fritto was just so average - could easily have been any fish). The fish-y pasta at the end was a lovely way to close off, and in particular, I really loved their use of vegetables throughout the courses. Also, the plum juice is absolutely divine.I'm not sure if this would be a regular spot for me, but I'd say it's worth a visit, and it's lovely, peaceful, and quiet for a unassuming date night. Would recommend!“
“This is probably one of the best sushi places I've been too. They have lots of vegetarian options! The place has a nice Japanese feel. It also has ample parking in the back. It's byob and there's a wine store literally 1 block away. As for what we got. Unfortunately they don't have the lunch menu on the weekends but that is no where written in there menu. We got the vegetarian tempura. It came with different fried vegetables like broccoli, mushroom and onion. It was ok. We ordered 4 rolls and I will present them in order of my favorite. The mango potato was the best. I loved the sauce and the texture of the fried sweet potato. Next was the pineapple. I loved the sweetness without any needed added sauce to top it. Then was the bugs bunny. It has lots of veggies and a nice Chipotle sauce on top. My least favorite was the Nori jade. I felt the Avocado was too mushy. The service was good but I felt it could have been a little better being that there were only 2 other tables being served.Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian sushi options“
“This is hands down my favorite sushi in Brooklyn and honestly the best sushi I've ever had! I stumbled upon this place last year and have tried plenty of sushi since but nothing compares. The quality of the fish they use is incredible, super fresh. Every roll I've tried has been delicious. But I think what really makes it that much better is that you can tell that they put love into their food. The owners are super kind and welcoming. Every time I come in, I'm treated with the utmost respect and care. They are hardworking and humble people that genuinely want you to have a good experience. Even friends who I've brought there have said it's some of the best sushi they've ever had. Okinawa is a staple! (Picture: Alaska Roll & Okinawa Roll)“
“Wabi Sabi does best what most people say they do: sushi. Their restaurant is decorated with plaques for best sushi, best sashimi, and even the best restaurant in Bloomfield.Having tried their Godzilla Roll, I'm inclined to agree. Their entire menu of chef's specials is filled with both familiar and unique rolls. The Godzilla Roll immediately stood out with an assortment of fish, including deep-fried tuna. It was a great mouthful and exceptional taste. The Dirty Roll was also quite good. Lots of elements complimenting each other. I think for some folks, there may be too much going on, and the flavors can be lost, but I appreciated how everything came together. Very yummy.I was drawn to the presentation of their grilled squid, but the taste didn't wow me as much. A simple salt and pepper squid served with soy sauce. Good portion, and not bad, but I think I'll stick with the sushi at Wabi Sabi.I always appreciate an attentive staff, but at some point, it started to feel like I had 3 people at my table and not just the 2 lol...Overall, I enjoyed my visit. One of our servers also shared their insight into the baby yellowtail sushi that we ordered, in comparison to regular yellowtail sushi, which I appreciated. Thanks for the food!“
“Was here on a Thursday for lunch and it was good. Their seared salmon appetizer was good. They torched it and added a smokey flavor to it which was great for me since I like the smokey flavor. The ramen was spicy but good and the Domodachi Lunch set was abundant and good. Parking wasn't bad for a weekday and service was prompt.“
“i wish I could give this restaurant 10 STARS! i treated myself to sushi for dinner and GrubHub lost the order twice (the initial order and the REPLACEMENT order too). Ninja Sushi called to discuss my experience and when I mentioned it was my birthday they INSISTED on personally delivering the order themselves at no charge. i am floored by their customer service and kindness. the food was great as well. definitely a new FAVORITE of mine!“
“The food always tastes good. The people who work here are so sweet and kind. I lost my card and they took their time to call me and make sure they were giving the card to the right person. They were too kind. I tried to give a tip for helping me out alot and she refused. The service is great and I reccomend anyone to come here. Thank you to the workers in Ariyoshi for being so truthful and kind! I'll continue to rave and promote this business.“
“I'd been coming here for years then stopped during covid. When I came back recently, the staff remembered me and was very friendly and thankful to see me. That's the kind of service that I prefer over the way too many new, overpriced fancy restaurants in town. It's low key, which I also prefer. The food is very good - my favorite is the mango tango roll.“
“My favorite sushi place in the area! Reasonable prices for great food. The rolls are great and so fresh tasting. I personally also really like the tuna tartare and the salmon tataki. It's hard to find such fresh tasting sushi without breaking the bank so I'm so glad this is near me. The space is also really cute. They have a back area where the chairs are all mismatched and eclectic. While the restaurant itself is more homey feeling, it adds to its charm. The people are always so nice too. Love this place! (Takeout is also great)“
“First time here ordered hibachi rice and noodles plus vegetable potstickers very yummy. Not sure about all the reviews about bad customer service because my experience was great.Vegetarian options: They have a few but they definitely need more and to make their teriyaki sauce vegan currently it has a chicken base in it.“
“Saw reviews for this place so got me curious n went to try it out. I must say, what i saw n tasted was very impressive. Their menu is small which means easier to keep foods fresh, their kitchen is open for all to see which means they got nothing to hide n u can b assured u r getting the freshest ingredients( which u can tell bu tasting it). I just wish they had soup dumplings n this place would b perfect!!!“
“I got duck Bao buns, tuna, avocado roll, spicy salmon, roll, and the oh my God roll. The duck bao buns were amazing. The tuna avocado and spicy salmon rolls were very well proportioned. The name says it all for the oh my god roll! The service was great and I can’t wait to go back.“
“The service tonight was outstanding!! We happened to arrive an hour earlier than our reservation (really misjudged traffic and the Lyft ride) yet the host still sat us without a problem. The Omakase selection, compared to other Sushi of Gari locations, was so creative and pleasing. Smaller, intimate setting, yet it felt extremely welcoming. I loved this location. I’ll definitely come back the next time I’m in the city.“
“The food was good for the prices offered. The fish quality is pretty good as well for the maki rolls. They offer lunch special deals that are very worth it. I’ve only ever tried the sesame chicken for the kitchen entree but that was delicious too.“
“The food was honestly so delicious. And I really loved how they decorated the place. It's very relaxing just being there. I would suggest having a cup of your favorite beverage after lunch and just recharge yourself for a while. The staff and owner are so friendly and helpful too, You'll definitely have a wonderful time.“
