“My wife and I have dined at the Saddle River Inn many times. The food and service is outstanding. Last night we had crab cake and agnolotti with white truffle cream sauce as appetizers. They were both delicious! I enjoyed the Long Island Duck with lo mein, bok choy, shiitake, scallion, crispy rice, orange hoisin sauce as my entre'e. My wife had a pork chop filet special. While she enjoyed the combination of flavors in the dish, the pork was very "chewy". When she mentioned it to our server, he said that he was aware of it. He said that it was a new dish and had to be "tweaked". He offered to replace her meal but she declined. We shared strawberry cheese cake for desert, which was excellent. Without asking, the cost of my wife's entree was taken off our bill. We were pleasantly surprised by this gracious gesture, and plan to be back soon.“

Why did I give it 3 stars overall then?It over charges for SMALL cups of americanos without refills. 1 small cup (1 shot expresso and 1 shot water) is $6. I’m talking about a small tea cup here.You end up paying $24 for 4 small tea cups of americanos for 2 people which is equivalent to 2 grande americanos at Starbucks for 3 TIMES the price. Sadly the drip coffees don’t taste as good and aren’t refilled either.Will I still eat here? Every so often because I like the food, but I won’t come as often as I would because of how much they over charge for coffee. I feel like I’m letting someone rob me…“

The baked ziti was really delicious, reminding me of my grandmom’s Italian cooking and much better than standard catering fare. The salad was very fresh with strawberries and a yummy tangy dressing, and the cheesecake was some of the best I’ve ever had. Also, when they needed to substitute the toffee topping on the cheesecake I ordered, they went above and beyond to find a suitable sub for us, offering lots of yummy alternatives (we went with pecan and salted caramel - YUM!). “I don't do very many google reviews, but wanted to share my experience at Madison Cafe today. I looked online and ordered a dish for take-out, noting the price of $10 on the menu I looked at. When I got there, a very pleasant guy gave me my order and charged me almost $19. I paid him first, then pointed out my concern about the price discrepancy, and was told that what I saw was a very old menu that was no longer valid. I said that the cafe should honor the price they display to the public on their website and it shouldn't be an issue for the customer if the wrong price is displayed, and asked to have the difference in price reimbursed to me. Understandably, he was not in a position to make that decision, so he called the owner, and after describing the situation put me on the phone with him. He precisely explained this issue that comes up with people taking pictures of menus and putting them on google in a way that is not "authorized" by the cafe, and that they've tried to get google to remove stuff like that, but to no avail. It's understandable how challenging this is for the business owner, and I agreed with the owner's comments about the pricing glitch. Making the decision to keep his customers happy, this fair-minded business owner said that my meal was on the house. He didn't have to do that-I was only asking for the difference to be returned to me, so kudos to this gentleman for his consideration, and I'll certainly patronize his establishment again. Thank you, sir for your gesture. BTW, the food was great!“
