Carne Asada Con Tajadas

“This is a place that we have go to once a year due to it being hard to get to. But it has such amazing Hondurian food. It is hard to find food from my home country but this is one of those places that makes the journey worth it. During the Christmas time they have a time when you can order authentic hondurian tamales for Christmas. These tamales are very juicy tasty and filling. They cost $4 each and are worth getting due to the size. We always get at least 20 tamales for the Christmas season and the owner is happy to do our order. She is very friendly and has know us for many years even if we knly see her once a year. This time we sat down to order some food. I got a classic Pollo Chuco (Dirty Chicken) which is fried plantains, fried chicken, cabbage or cold slaw, a ketchup mayo combo sauce drizzled on top with pickled onions (which i asked without since i dont enjoy onions). The chicken was seasoned perfectly and the plantains were crispy and salty. I have to get this item again as it is delicious. The place was clean and empty as we went early. A little cramped but not bad.“

“AN ABSOLUTE GEM. spanish-speaking family-run little hole-in-the-wall Honduran restaurant in a neighborhood that's gentrifying around them and running authentic latin american places like these into the ground. incredible spread of honduran food, took a normal amount of time to come out, and extremely kind/thoughtful service. they just don't speak much english! pull your google translate out or point to what you want on the menu - simple! i came for a date (with an hondureño) and i was early and hinted i wanted to sit outside (if they had seating), and the whole family that was sitting out there got up, cleared their things, and cleaned up for us to sit outside - before i could say stop! and prices are CHEAP for NYC!an absolute new favorite of mine and my first time trying Honduran. the food was to die for and i had leftovers for days. keep this place in business! just expect a normal Latin place with a baby, music and TV on! staple for the locals; bad reviews sound like they've never been in a latin joint, or a place trying to survive, or any ethnic place that doesn't cater immediately to english speakers.“

“Wtooped here to eat dinner last night as there was a menu item that I had been craving but its very difficult to find places that make it. I went in around 6pm and they where hosting a party on one side of the restaurant, I believe it would have been better to close the whole restaurant for the event since regular customers were given a small side of the otherwise small restaurant. Though we were served as quickly as possible it was still crowded with party guests. The waitress came over and took our drink and food orders. I had asked for an Horchata and an order of Pollo Frito con Tajadas (fried chicken over a bed of plantain chips and shredded cabbage). The drinks came out quickly but the food took between 25-30 minutes to come out. Even then it came out in portions snd not all at once for my group of three. My food also came out a little different than what was shown on the menu with all the sauces on the side but instead it came with it already all over the food. Normally I don't enjoy the red sauce as much and would have preferred it not on the dish. My groups other meals took more time to come out and they had some issues with what they had ordered. I believe ir was because of the party that they were all distracted. Overall I will have to come try again 4/5“

Pollo Chuco Y Empanada De Carne

“El Progreso is a cozy little restaurant, focused on typical Central American food and with very good service. I like to go, at least once a week, to share with my family the delicious tamales, baleadas, pupusas and tacos, accompanied by a delicious beet spice that they serve to their special clients. Tamarind and orchata waters are our favorites. Solidarity prices!“
