The food and drinks are excellent (get the truffle fries and the Smokey Oaxaca cocktail!), and the service truly could not have been better. The vibe inside is swanky but chill, cozy and also a little fancy, not like a pub. Avoca is definitely one of my fave UES bars and restaurants.“

Finback Brooklyn Brewery
545 President St, Brooklyn

“Our group (BKForge: Brooklyn for Reproductive and Gender Equity) recently held an event at Finback's Brooklyn location. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, we did not rent dedicated space — but Finback still set aside an alcove just for us, gave us lots of support both before and during the event, and overall made us feel very welcome. Coordinating ahead of time was very smooth, and all our questions were answered right away. Attendees at our event also remarked on how much they enjoyed coming to this spot. We definitely plan to come back in the future!“

“I am a pescatarian. Their fish tacos are good. The other options are very... Rugged and organic? I want to like their home made veggie burger, but it falls apart and is a bit dry.But I am picky about homemade veggie burgers. It seems we have been making them long enough to not crumble and stick to the roof of our mouths. And the nachos are also dry somehow. But the atmosphere brings me back every time. Nothing special. And definitely not speakeasy level. Service was a bit confusing and it looked like they were short staffed. There looked like only one person managing the tables so we weren't served and had to go to the bar. We walked in and didn't even give our name and we were seated immediately. it quickly became evident that Marcelo was the maitre d, waiter, bar tender, busser and chef. What a guy who did it all and made you feel welcome. The food was outstanding and I dine in a lot of Italian restaurants. It was one of the best dining experiences in long time. When I paid our bill I looked for Marcelo only to find him in the kitchen working away. I congratulated him on such a great meal saying I wish we lived closer. He informed me that they may be closing and said maybe we will meet again somewhere else because you never know what life brings your way. Hopefully he continues on in his craft. They do not have draft beer and only bottle and not many options at all.The noddle with soup they give you on the house was pretty yum.We had the garlic fried chicken which had an excellent garlic flavor but the chicken itself was disappointing. It was very crispy but there was barely any meat! Bunch of breading with tiny measly pieces of chicken! What was that?! We ate a bunch of just fried dough. We also had the rolled egg omelette and that was pretty decent. We also had the chicken, beef and the shrimp skewers.
