The Ivy Lea Club Canadian • $$

“Our second visit this season. We’ve been coming to this restaurant for the past 15 years through a couple of changes of management. Our first visit this year was rather underwhelming but it was early in the season so we wrote it off as “teething problems” as can happen at a seasonal restaurant. Last evening the service was much improved as was the quality of the meal. From my perspective I find the menu a bit lacking when it comes to main courses. I believe there are 6 entrees….2 steak, 2 seafood, chicken and a mushroom risotto. It might be nice to offer a pasta, an Asian inspired dish, pork or lamb for those of us not overly fond of seafood or trying to avoid beef. They did have a nightly special but it too was steak. Our server was delightful and it remains a stunning room. A lit candle or two might help with the ambiance. I hate to sound picky…but it just missed the mark.“

The mushroom dish, brimming with umami, is probably the best I've ever had. The Arctic char crudo was flavorful and well balanced. And the lamb pasta was good and unique. “If I could give service 10 stars I would. A friend and I went for dinner and our server was so sweet and attentive. Just one example of the excellent service we received: while we were sitting in the back covered patio, she noticed I put on a sweater. She immediately turned on the heaters and came over to let us know, in case I was feeling cold. It’s small moments like that, that really make you feel taken care of. My only regret is not leaving a bigger tip. I’ll definitely have to return and offer more next time.As for the atmosphere, the place was full and lively but didn’t feel overly crowded or loud. The space itself I would describe it as unpretentious but still felt refined. Finally, the food. We ended up getting a main AND an app of the beef tartare since it was so delicious, as well as the trout which was cooked beautifully. To be honest pretty much everything on the menu called out to us. We also got a salted chocolate mousse that we shared and it was a perfect way to end our meal. They also had a great offering of wines and drinks.Overall: fabulous staff, great food, lovely atmosphere.“

Staff were very attentive (we had booked a private room) and restaurant had a mature and cool atmosphere.Highlights were the beef tartare and sirloin. The tartare had a very unique blend of flavours and textures that really elevated the dish; unlike any tartare I’ve had before. The beef tenderloin was the shining star however. “I ordered salad and a bottle of alcohol for delivery. After waiting for almost an hour (which was fine), Skip the Dishes arrived and there was no bottle, just a salad. The driver nor I was made aware until I check the bag. The driver then called Gabby's to inquire why he was not notified he was delivering a partial order, he was dismissed and told to give me the phone. The young lady (Gabby's employee) then proceeded to convey the bottle was not available and that I'd have to attempt a refund through Skip the Dishes, not Gabby's. She was quite dismissive and closed with a very sarcastic "have a nice evening" and hung up.Needless to say, Gabby's on Eglinton is off-limits to me and my family.Update:David, the owner, arrived at my doorstep to personally deliver my order.I'm appreciative of this, he has renewed my faith in humanity (and Gabby's). “FoodInitially, our visit was motivated by Winterlicious, but a small oversight on our part led to the realization that it was offered only on certain days. Despite this hiccup, we embraced the experience and delved into their regular menu. I chose the Eggs Benedict, and it lived up to my expectations: light yet satisfyingly savory and greasy, filling without being extraordinary. It was a classic dish executed well. My companions and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals, finding comfort in the familiar and well-prepared dishes.ServiceOur server was a paragon of professionalism—friendly, well-informed, and eager to recommend his favorites. Despite the restaurant bustling with activity, he and the rest of the staff managed the flow with remarkable efficiency. Their hard work and dedication to providing a seamless dining experience did not go unnoticed.Ambiance and DecorThe restaurant boasts a charmingly vintage ambiance that transports you to another era. Incandescent bulbs bathe the space in a warm, yellow light, enhancing the extensive use of wood and period-appropriate decor. It’s a place that feels like it has been a cornerstone of the community for generations, inviting patrons into a cozy, nostalgic embrace.AccessibilityProspective guests should note the presence of stairs leading into the restaurant, coupled with somewhat narrow internal passageways. This setup might present challenges for some, highlighting areas where accessibility could be improved.“

Unassuming and easy to miss if walking by, but definitely worth a stop. They have a ton of beers on tap along with a good selection of cocktails and other craft cans/bottles. They have 3 pool tables which are pay by the minute and usually has a long wait on weekend evening, but aside from that they're usually available. While I mostly come here for drinks a pool, their food is delicious too! Typical items you'd expect from a pub menu but executed at a step above most others.Love the cozy environment, ample seating along with a fire place for those colder winter nights. We walked in at 2pm, and still wait for 15-20 mins before we got seated. Ordered the duck confit sourdough, daily salmon omelette, and finish off with small portion French toast. All the brunch comes with either salad or potatoes or a mix of both. The omelette portion is huge, but with small portion of salmon and stuff with few large potatoes. Duck confit sourdough with two poach eggs is good, but not to the point of Wow factor. The French toast is the best of all, with berries sauce and pistachio cream. This brunch spot definitely better than lots of brunch spot in Toronto, but don't go there with high hopes.“

“Update review in2024:I've lost count of how many times I've been to Aloette, but it's definitely over ten. The biggest surprise this time was having a table available for walk-ins. Every other time, I've only been able to reserve a spot at the bar. Aloette is hands down one of the best restaurants in Toronto for me. After being in Canada for so many years, Aloette is the restaurant I visit the most frequently and am consistently delighted with the overall dining experience. Honestly, it surpasses Alo and Alobar in my opinion. Each appetizer was to my liking. The biggest surprise was that the menu changes every few months!!! Dishes that I enjoy, such as beef tartare/Foie gras/octopus/lettuce salad, are presented in different ways every few months. This means that my favorite things are constantly being renewed without repetition in my life! The new combinations always bring a lot of innovation. I truly hope Aloette continues to stay innovative! The standout main dish this time was the lamb skewer! The lamb skewers are fatty but not greasy, with a tender and glutinous interior and crispy edges. I highly recommend them to every meat lover out there, regardless of whether you usually enjoy mutton or not; one bite and you'll be hooked! The accompanying sauces also hit the spot for me; I used my bread to scrape every last bit of them! You don’t need to wash dishes!!!Another classic must-try is the Short Rib. The burger, on the other hand, was a bit underwhelming, perhaps because I have a strong preference for well-seasoned patties. The newly waygu burger patty was rather plain in taste.Desserts are always a must-try for me, especially with new items on the menu! Goose liver ice cream was a delightful surprise! I particularly enjoy when a dish combines various textures, especially the sweet and savory. Trust me, Aloette is truly worth a visit! I hope Aloette continues to excel in culinary excellence! You are the reason I stay in Toronto!Review in 2023:Perfect experience!!! I have always believed that Aloette is committed to doing a good job in catering. I have been in Canada for two years, and Aloette is the restaurant where I check in the most repeatedly. Even the same food will be presented in different styles, which always amazes me. I think Aloette is the most worthy restaurant in the Alo series to taste. I hope Aloette can continue like this!Iceberg Salad: This is my first time trying salad here. The taste really surprised me! It's the first time I've experienced salad that can be so delicious. The combination of crunchy nuts, avocado, salad dressing, and fresh vegetables is just right!“

Only down fault is that you can take your own birth cake but you won't be allowed to put candles or sparklers or have a burn cake cause there's fire in it which is annoying cause they should really put that on there website that it's a rule and regulation according to the building. I did mention it to the manager but her response was well you should've called earlier to ask... Which wasn't very helpful.“

“One of our favorite restaurants around Cybernetyki st. Tasty food, family-friendly, nice service. Note for the manager: the paper used to wrap the burgers (the one looking like a newspaper) is not suitable for the take away orders. It gets wet and tears apart before you finish eating the burger. Consider replacing it with a wax paper please. Thank you and keep up!“

“Met someone here for drinks. The spot has a cool speakeasy vibe - a quaint two tiered lunge with jazz music playing in the background. We were both overwhelmed and impressed by the menu. Tried the dominicana, twist of fate, and gunslinger punch cocktails. We were blown away by how smooth all the drinks were and how well the ingredients/flavors complimented each other.“

“I booked the back room at Her Father's Cider Bar for my birthday celebration and everything was absolutely amazing. The food, drink selection, ambiance, hospitality and overall experience- everything exceeded my expectations!I worked closely with their manager Josh to coordinate the timing, capacity, budget, food and dietary restrictions for my group. He was extremely flexible to work with and ensured that everyone in my group had a meal that they could eat (we had a couple vegetarians/vegans). Even though we only corresponded through email, he was extremely quick with getting back to me and answering all our my questions - no matter how big or small they were. Having him as a contact made me extremely comfortable and less stressed with the planning since he clearly knows his stuff when it comes to special events and planning! The server who helped take care of my group was extremely attentive while also easygoing and flexible. She was patient despite our group being so large and split into two, and I greatly appreciated her attention to detail when it came to catering to my vegan guests and latecomers.I had the chicken & waffles and it was the perfect size. Their apple butter and apple ketchup are both amazing and accompanied the food perfectly. I would love to come back to try other brunch items as everyone else's food looked really good as well! I also can't wait to visit again to try their dinner menu and I know for sure that this is going to be a lovely date night location going forward!Thank you everyone at Her Father's for your amazing hospitality and service!Vegetarian options: Shakshuka, french toast and modified eggs Benedict. Vegans got a Tempah quesadilla.Dietary restrictions: Vegans were accommodated for!“

“The food and service was amazing, hands down the BEST breakfast our group has had in the area from Niagara to Bowmanville. We couldn’t say enough about the freshness of the ingredients, their taste was just exceptional.I will agree with another reviewer and the blueberries were large, ripe, and full of incredible flavor. The pictures do NOT do the food justice and top it off the coffee was great too. Before we fly out we plan to return to the Triple B.“

“Yesterday was our first visit and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We shared the English-style fish & chips, along with the full rack of ribs, and we happily devoured all of it! Amazing. We can't wait to visit again. I honestly did not expect a local pub to serve up excellence but that's exactly what they did. You need to understand that my partner and I can be quite picky and we usually find something negative to note; however, it was impossible to find anything negative to say about our meal. Good portion size, good prices, amazing menu, amazing flavours, good atmosphere, great service. Thank you South Shore Bar & Grill; we'll be back for sure!“

“I had dinner with my family (2 adults and 2 kids, 8 &10), we had a really, really delicious meal. The portions are very generous, the menu is tight and everything is made super fresh. “I was just looking for something close to George Brown and noticed this place had excellent reviews. The reviews were justified! The place is small but cozy and has a family dining room type feel. The service is great - everyone working here is very pleasant and friendly. The food was also delicious! Flavorful, fresh and satisfying. The fresh flatbread was a phenomenal pairing with the drowned omelette. If I'm ever back in the area - I will definitely be back!!“
