“It matters to me, how employees are treated by their management. Where I spend my money matters especially now. An employee was serving a client ahead of me in a To-go platter. As he serves the gentleman. A man, about 5’10, black curly hair, in a fitted well ironed stripped long sleeve button up with black slacks came around to “help” as I assumed. But instead he grabs the platter out of the employees hand as he towers over him, looks him up and down, SCOFFS, and his facial expression didn’t match the situation, it was discuss and distain. Mind you, it was about tabouli being put in a place in the To-Go box. This happened in front of me, and in front of another client. He says nothing to the employee but an eye roll. And proceeds to serve the other client. Why does it matter? Why do I care? I have worked in the food industry my whole life, and just like that man treated the employee I too was treated in such ways. If you don’t understand, I’m sorry you have lived a life of convenience and haven’t had to experience being mistreated. The food is excellent the, the place is clean. The only thing that is lacking, is their humanity. Do better. Be kinder.“
“Treebeards has been around for more than 30 yrs. It is still as good as the very first time I tried it back in the 90’s. The cafeteria style is fast and the food is amazing. The fried catfish and red beans & rice are the best you will find anywhere. This place is an institution. I hope it continues to be around for many years to come. The people that work here are SO nice…. and all the desserts are wonderful!??“
“I've been to all of the locations of fadis in the Houston area and this one is my favorite. Some locations don't allow you to get half sides but this one does! It allows for more variety of choices and same portion sizes. Their pita bread is unlike any other. I love how fresh & warm the food is and the portions are HUGE. Price is fair when taking into consideration how much you get. Parking is easy and it's in a shopping center.“
“They have been open for 35 years.. probably really doesn't need any more reviews.. their longevity speaks for itself.. but simply amazing.. nothing fancy.. nothing complicated, nothing short of amazing food and phenomenal service. Usually we are greeted with a line but today due to the holidays we walked right in and started eating! Which is what I like to do! The owner rings you up and would be more than happy to tell you anything that you'd like to know regarding the restaurant/history or the area of Downtown Houston. We can't wait to go back.. honestly there are many many amazing food choices around Downtown but if you're really craving that downhome 5 generations (or more)of home cooking treat yourself! All the food is amazing.. if anyone were to ever leave a negative review they just woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day? Green beans are the best I've ever had plus the Jambalaya and smoked Chicken.. yummy“
“This place was so neat. It totally took me back to when I was about 10:12 years old at my aunt's house in a very small town. So serene the TV playing in the background. The food just like my aunt would cook it. Just such a great feeling to just sit there.. With ivy plants everywhere in the restaurant, an old magazines that I hadn't seen since I was in my 20s and in my teens really old pictures of movie stars like Lucille Ball.Just a beautiful feeling reminded me so much of my youth.“
“Great! I eat at the Memorial location 3 - 4 times a month. It is always good. I am vegetarian. The vegetarian plate allows me to get 6 sides. The servings are large and I always have enough to take home and a second meal. The beet salad, lentils and avocado chickpea salad are my favorites.“
“The food in general is great here but the Shrimp etoufee is heavenly. Succulent shrimps with fresh and crunchy onions and celery on top of perfectly cooked rice. I'm hungry again. Fast and good service. The best thing is that Treebeards is one of the few places in the tunnels you don't have to do that obligatory tipping on a screen.“
“The food there is so delicious... that's the best soul food I had in Houston. I tell everybody about them, any of my people come from out of town I'll tell them to go there or I'll take them there. Got to taste this before you leave.“
“Masala chai and filter coffee were nice drinks. Beef patty was pretty satisfying. Malai sandesh was definitely a hit, gur sandesh yummy as well. The inside walls of the cafe have interesting historical facts about coffee that you can read while you sip n snack.“
“Omg best shawarma of my life! The beef shawarma is soo flavorful and it comes loaded with onions and tomatoes! The garlic sauce is amazing along with the hummus and babaganoush. The zattar potatoes are great and so is the Turkish coffee ice cream. The iced caramel macchiato is not American flavor so don’t think it taste like your regular caramel macchiato. The“
“I was very impressed with this cafeteria. Growing up we used to eat at Wyatt's Cafeteria on Griggs Rd but they shut down decades ago. Dinnner Bell gave me that feel. It was very cozy, customer service was exceptional, and the food was good. I tried the chicken fried chicken, with mashed potatoes, and cabbage. I had cornbread and a slice of sweet potato pie. The spinach lemonade was so good too! I will definitely be back. The reviews don't lie. It's a little hidden gem. I hope they continue to stick around. We need more home cooked restaurants like this.“
“Amazing place , needs more food venders only managed to get an agua fresca from one local lady $5.00 each the atmosphere needs more people to come it was very deserted due to few people . Still little shops around were very friendly definitely will come back in some months .“
“Where else can I go to enjoy such a variety of delicious food at such a reasonable price? I know Golden Corral has good variety (and they have their place) .. but Lucy's quality is much better. I am happy that Lucy's is a dining option for me.“
“This food is to die for. It was our first time and the staff was extremely friendly helping us navigate the ordering process. Everything we ordered was perfect and the pita was the best we've ever had. I enjoyed crafting each bite individually with different sides and proteins; the flavor combinations seemed endless! I don't live in Houston, so unfortunately I'll have to dream about this food until we get a chance to come back.“
