“Until I came here, I was reluctant to eat sushi in America. Most of the restaurants are run by people who have never been to Japan, and when we say sushi, it's rolls or sticky rice sushi, but this restaurant was different.I was able to speak with the owner, who said he had actually been to Japan, and the sushi rice and toppings were so good that I couldn't believe that they were available in America.The most delicious dish was the haburi kama.It reminded me of my mother's grilled kama that I ate in Japan.The price is a bit high, but if you can get this quality in America, it's worth it.It was the best sushi I've had in America!”

“This little food truck has so many options to pick from. I'm totally in love with their pineapple water and frito pie. Their service is great, and prices are mid range for a snack stand. They also have amazing corn in the cup. I recommend the agua preparada the chocolate smoothie as well.”

“It is unfortunate that I did not take a before picture of the custom-ordered cake. However, I must say that the cake was exceptionally delicious, particularly the frosting. I am not usually a big fan of cake due to the overly sweet frosting, but this one struck the perfect balance. Surprisingly, it tasted even better the next day. I highly recommend this establishment. I had previously contacted three other cake shops, but none of them responded. A fourth one I called was unhelpful over the phone and directed me to their website. I apologize for not remembering the name of the individual I spoke with at this store, but she was incredibly helpful and accommodating to my schedule. If she happens to read this review, I hope she recalls the "cancer cake" she made for my wife. My sincere gratitude to her.”

“When we arrived we were promptly greeted and seated. It did take our server to get to us a good 10 minutes before talking and telling us what the concept and food recommendations were. The setting of the restaurant is clean, and airy due to the sun room setting on one side of the restaurant. To start us off, we did some drinks that were good but did not find any favourites. The two cold starters were: Hamachi Yuzu: 2/5 because the yuzu yoghurt was overpowering and the kombu powder left a sandy grit texture on the teeth that made it almost annoying to eat. Could barely taste the hamachi. Madai Carpaccio: 1/5 because the crunchy togarashi and black sesame soy sauce enveloped the Madai and the saucy component was too strong to complement the fish. Oyster with caviar was fresh and briny. Very tasty. 5/5. Would recommend avoiding the cold starters besides the oysters and moving straight to the nigiri and hot components of the menu. From the nigiri portion, we ordered: Hotate, salmon, gizzard shad, akami, amaebi and madai. Fresh, fatty, flavoursome cuts of delicious fish. Definitely recommend, 5/5. Also, tried the Olive A5 wagyu nigiri with black truffle and it was unctuous and absolute yum! From their hot portion, we got the baby back ribs, iberico shumai, and lobster with sake miso. The baby back ribs were falling off the bone, tender and seasoned to perfection. The shumai was good with a pipette of ponzu sauce. The lobster was rich, not overcooked and the panko with the miso sake lent it a Mac and cheese-esque quality to it. Would definitely get these again. For dessert go the Japanese melon which was sweet and juicy and had none of the chemical aftertaste that is found in the fruits here in the states. The green tea kakigori was airy and light. Usually not a fan of red bean ice cream or desserts but this one came with a really nice red bean ice cream. Would have liked the portion to be more to balance out the shaved ice. Overall it was a great time! Price wise it was affordable for the amount of food we ordered.”

“Anvil is, without a doubt, my favorite cocktail bar. And that's not just within Houston. The consistent quality of their cocktails is simply unrivaled. They have a rotating selection of featured cocktails, but half the time I order from their list of 100 classics because they craft them to near-perfection (sometimes perfection, if I'm being honest). Yesterday, I tried a new one containing shōchū, reposado tequila, and black sesame... my adjectives wouldn't do justice to the simple elegance and brilliance of that cocktail. They don't offer happy hour nor outdoor seating. There are probably ~15-20 seats at the bar and then 8-12 booths along the windows, each of which fits 4-5 people. The bartenders are always amazing, their knowledge of the craft is impressive. At the end of the day, Anvil isn't trying to rope you in with trendy fads nor great deals. But I suspect you'll be back for a return visit, because they're serving the highest-quality cocktails in town”

“They have something special juicing here at this healthy food truck. The two ladies behind the counter are always welcoming and hard at work to make sure I’m taken care of. First healthy food truck/restaurant of a sea of a thousand that makes me look forward to coming back. Beautiful ambiance and seriously fantastic service at totally affordable prices. Wine was a little pricey though. The food was excellent. I highly recommend the vegan soba salad and mango sorbet. “This was a lot of fun! The experience from start to finish was delightful, imaginative and intimate. The food was on point and very elevated as expected at this price point. The service was fantastic, as the setup allows for the chef to have plenty of interaction with the guests and Chef Marcos was very engaging and enthusiastic about explaining the different techniques, fish and his own sushi history with us as we dined. My wife and I are no novices to sushi, omakase or tasting menus in general and this experience was both unique and memorable. I should note the restaurant is BYOB, they did share a sake shot welcome cheers for everyone and the passion fruit mocktail was excellent.”

“The service was excellent! The food was good. However, the portions are very small. My wife ordered the mahi. It could not have been bigger that 5 oz. My kids (17 and 20) all wanted steak. But, a simple 8oz filet was $83 vs, a standard $50 at Flemmings or Ruth's Chris. Therefore I decided to share the 22 oz Waugh ribeye with my kids. It was the only economical choice. It was not enough food. On the plus side. The waiter was excellent!”

“TLDR: The slow service impaired the dining experience, and the passive aggressive gratuity procedure degrades the image of this restaurant.We just went here for a nice family dinner. They have a good variety of food choices. The tortilla soup and cioppino were both excellent, as were the confit potatoes. The strip steak had good flavor. The seafood beignets was unique but nothing spectacular and the roasted cauliflower was just ok. As for the desserts, the blockbuster was pretty good. The carrot cake was nothing special.What really needs improvement is the service. The waiter was slow in coming for each step of the ordering process and dining experience, and we had to flag him down twice. Also, the soup i ordered arrived at the same time as my entree, instead of being brought out with the appetizers. At least the lady that filled our water was always prompt. We ended up spending 2.5 hrs there due to slow service.Then, a 20% tip was printed onto our bill. At the bottom of the check (not disclosed on the menu), it says that a “suggested gratuity” is added for all parties of 8 or more, but we only had 5 people in our party (2 adults and 3 kids). It also says, the guest has "right to determine the final amount, free from compulsion or negotiation,” yet there it is printed onto the bill, and another line labeled “Additional Tip” below. For the level of service we received, I would’ve tipped 18% max. While I certainly could have argued it, the dinner took so long i just wanted to leave. It wasn’t much extra money, but of course that is not the point, and, it left me with a negative impression of this establishment.Kid-friendliness: There is a kids menu”

“I went last night with my mom and best friend to celebrate my moms birthday. When I say it was the best birthday dinner she's ever had, I am not lying. Our server (I wish I could remember his name, he was a sweetie!) was amazing, extremely attentive, and very kind. Rene (I believe is his name) the manager, was extremely thoughtful. He brought champagne as soon as we sat down and he also brought my mom a card at the end of the dinner. It was so thoughtful and amazing! The service was excellent, our cups were always full and our table was very clean at all times. The chickpea crepe, sourdough, and escargot were amazing! The ravioli, broccolini, and steak were so flavorful. We ate every bite. Phenomenal experience and we will definitely be back. Thank you all! My mom was so happy.”

“We were lucky enough to get the last service by Chef Jonathan. We had his Kobe fair well tour!And he made our experience amazing! We had recently had their parent restaurant Hidden Omakase and we enjoyed it but was recommended to try this joint for a lower price point and shorter meal.So for dinner they do 45 mins and they start on time so make sure you come a little early and take some pictures in the nft gallery out front. If you park it’s to the left of the Italian restaurant and has no signage.Once seated they get started right on the dot. But even though it’s a short service Jonathan explained what we were getting in great detail. We got better interaction here with the crew than at Hidden Omakase. It’s a younger group and more fun and lively.The Engawa was the best thing I have ever eaten at any sushi restaurant. This thing is life changing. And you’re able to get an extra piece as an a la carte add on. Do it!!! “So we were looking for something local and near the neighborhood and we found it!! I couldn’t believe this place had been open for 4+ years and we have been driving past it this whole time!! Kudos to the cook who prepared our food we tried the egg rolls, chilaquiles and quesadilla. Food was tasty warm and delicious. We definitely recommend and will be back to try the wings & other options. Place is an old steel house and you notice it once inside the restaurant!! Their drink menu was limited when we came but that didn’t stop the bartender who made some great cocktails!! Definitely recommend for the taste & value. This beats any fast food options and places open late near the area!! Oh yeah I came with the person who posted the review below!! lol”

I was clumsy when I dropped my glass of water but my waiter Thien and Levi quickly came to rescue and cleaned up after me! The conjak noodles were great even though it was gluten free along with the broth, tofu, noodles, bok shoy, ginger, and bean sprouts. I also had the best kimchi fried rice. “I always stop at this waffle house on my way out of town for work. Always getcoffee, 2 eggs (over easy), bacon (crisp), wheat toast (strawberry jam), waffle ( drowned in butter and syrup) and hash browns. LOVE their hash browns. “Was in Houston for a few days and so glad I found this place!They curate their coffee beans from all over the world and have an extensive range of coffee/tea drinks to choose from. The espresso I had both days was extremely balanced and very smooth so I imagine their espresso based drinks are excellent. They had a very robust pour over selection as well I will certainly be trying next time.There was a wide range of pastry and food offerings that spanned a variety of options from sweet or savory toasts, to burritos and even an interesting Australian sausage roll. The menu had a ton of things I would have loved to try without being overly complex or excessive. I went for the avocado toast which was executed very well!Finally the atmosphere rounded out my fantastic experience. It felt contemporary and cozy without being stuffy a place Im sure many people hang out to work or chat. But then a staff member came and told the line that there is another side of the breakfast klub next door that serves about 6 top items from their menu . So we went over there and it was so nice ! We didn’t have to wait on our food it came out in about 10 minutes . They had outdoor seating and we really enjoyed ourselves . Shout out to Bri working at the bar she was soooo sweet and nice the best customer service ! 10/10 for the food !!! The chicken GOOD the catfish GOOD fried and seasoned to perfection the waffle LIKE A FUNNEL CAKE sooo good . The prices also soo good too .We also got the mimosas pineapple and grapefruit GOOD! “Burger Chan was 5 stars all the way. I saw they did a Vietnamese coffee milkshake....yes please! Had them bring it out with my meal, very very good. My burger consisted of 3 two ounce patties with pepperjack cheese, a fried egg and charred jalapenos. This burger was tasty and juicy, had a hint of char on the edges...yum. As usual we sampled each others food. My wife got a five ounce burger patty with no bun with cheddar cheese, seared spam, sauteed onions and sliced avocado, very tasty. She added some fried cheese curds, they hit the ever widening spot, some of the best i've ever had. We will be back for more goodies.”

It's popular because of the good tasting food. They should do something about speeding up the line. But I guess Management has not thought about that. Has your business growth and it has more in more people coming. You should make plans to make the kitchen area larger with the buffet section larger. So you can have 2 extra servers. I'm assuming they made it investment in the parking lot next door which is huge and full of cars. Trust me this place is making money. Not complaining about the price, but this is not a dollar tacos. Those days are over. This location, and one Laredo on Patton Street street are making money. It would help if it also had a larger restroom to accommodate more than one person. It's a business not a home. I hope management reads this. And will maybe answer the review”

“While visiting the Houston area from North Carolina, my wife insisted we have a Texas steak given that Texas is known to be a big cattle/beef exporter and it's history. When asking around for a good place to have a non commercialized steakhouse meal, this restaurant was brought to our attention by locals and with the good reviews while not being too far away, we had to give it a try. Attire for the customers was casual to semi formal. Once in the restaurant, you are immediately submerged into a lineage of Texas history as the walls are covered with artifacts from the area. Definitely had a Texas feel to it. The staff was attentive, well dressed and spoken. For an appetizer, we had the quail and it was, in my opinion, the best part of the meal. We ordered a cowboy ribeye which was great but nothing that solidified it as the best steak ever. The salad bar was clean with fresh ingredients and was actually recommended by another couple while we were waiting, stating that if they could choose one thing there to have, it would be the salad bar. The cheese blocks definitely were noteworthy. Brussel sprouts on the side which were okay, followed up by pecan pie. The food was good but not exactly why I would say they are 5 stars. The service and decor is definitely where you spend your money. If you're visiting Texas and want a Texas steakhouse experience and your budget is not tight then I would recommend it. Seating was a little tight to navigate through but manageable. There was a 30 minute wait. The server informed us that this steakhouse in particular was the #1 selling privately owned/non commercialized steakhouse in Texas and #13 in the United States. With tip, we paid right at $200 for 1 appetizer, 1 cowboy ribeye, 1 side of brussel sprouts, 2 salads, glass of water, 1 Dr pepper, and 2 slices of pie. The servings were of good portion.”

There's not a lot of room but enough for you to comfortably sit and visit. The music playing in there is trendy. I heard a Chris Stapleton song once while waiting for my order. The staff is very nice, helpful and polite. I always appreciate great customer service. The drinks are very good. I don't find many places that get ca phê trứng (Egg Coffee) right, especially iced. Le'Drip impressed me with their version. I thoroughly enjoyed the stout Vietnamese coffee taste. In my opinion whether ca phê sữa đá or otherwise, the coffee has to be legit and strong or it throws everything else off. If you want a sweeter coffee try Bác Xíu (White Coffee), which is much sweeter. The ca phê trứng however was exceptional compared to others I've tried recently. On a whim, I tried the Soursop Thai Tea. It's good but too sweet for me. If sweetness is your weakness, by all means, you may love this drink. Le'Drip has impressed me so far and I'll return to try other drinks in the future.”
