“Ok so I've loved wake the dead for years. It's a San Marcos staple. Atmosphere/environment (both inside and outside) are amazing. My go to place to work or study. Food? Great. Service? ALWAYS on point...My only thing is... The prices have gotten out. of. hand. I mean, I understand that inflation is happening, it's a thing. Everyone talks about how Starbucks is expensive, and I understand that prices at a local shop are probably gonna be a bit more because they have to support their own... And I'll still try and support wake the dead as much as I'm financially able to but it's getting to a point where I don't think I can afford it anymore. At all.The pic below .. that coffee was $8 and some change. For the SMALLEST cup. That's wiiiiild. Truly. .Idk, anyway, I love wake the dead but the prices have gotten a bit insane.“
“Someone told me about this place to visit in San Marcos. We went an hour before they closed. The place looked really rustic and welcoming. Inside felt like a place to sit and drink with family and friends. We didn’t try the food except the chocolate chip cookies. Amazing! The selection of craft beer was good.“
“A really cute little gem! Stopped in for a quick bite to-go. Staff was warm and welcoming and the Parisian sandwich hit the spot. The secret garden is precious, and they’ve done a good job at preserving the historic character of the building.“
“We had tried this place on a recommendation from friends. We usually get kolaches and klobasenk while traveling to Dallas from New Braunfels. But we were looking for a place nearby that has good kolaches. This place has a good selection to choose from and not just the standard sausage like most of places in the area. The dough tasted homemade and was really soft and fresh.Excited to learn that a location is being built in Gruene so it will be even closer to the house. We will definitely be going more often once the new location is open.“
“I was so excited when I found out Rhea's had a San Marcos location. I had originally discovered its New Braunfels location after leaving Schlitterbahn one day, and it instantly became my favorite ice cream shop! Not only is everything handmade, but it's delicious too! I absolutely love their wafflecones, and my favorite flavor is their caramel sea salt. It's hard to find wafflecones that are authentic, flavorful, and don't taste like cardboard, but Rhea's made them perfectly. Food aside, the staff is generally very friendly and hard-working too. It's overall one of my favorite local businesses, and I genuinely hope they can keep thriving.“
“Amazing spot, especially for gluten-sensitive or those affected by Celiac disease (whose ranks I have been in for over half my life). All of their sides are gluten-free and come out crunchy, hot, and fresh. The gluten-free burger bun doesn't break apart after the first bite, which is a common problem with many other establishments that offer a gluten-free option, and the burger itself is tasty and fresh. Even the soda was more crisp and bubbly than I'm accustomed to from a drive-thru window. 10/10 - will absolutely be back.“
“This is my new favorite place in San Marcos for breakfast and coffee. The staff was amazing and so kind! The food was delicious. I would highly recommend the breakfast sandwich and the breakfast tacos. They are good sized portions. The coffee was also really good. I got a capuchino with honey and my husband got an iced vanilla latte. The outdoor space is also amazing. They have a bunch of large picnic tables outside that would be good for larger group seating. Inside seating is more limited!“
“I recently visited The Growling, a hidden gem for craft beer enthusiasts. This bar stands out for its exclusive focus on Texas beers, showcasing an impressive variety of local brews. The atmosphere is welcoming and perfectly suited for both casual hangouts and beer aficionados. Highly recommend for anyone looking to explore the best beers Texas has to offer!“
“Best bar in San Marcos! If I could leave 10 stars I would. Not only is it in such a cool historic building but they have a ton of parking, really good live music, food, and drinks too! There’s seating inside and outside though it’s mostly open areas. Extreme weather is the only thing that keeps me from coming here sometimes. The Bartenders here are all really caring and knowledgeable so the drinks always come out really good, exactly what you order. I like the beer and shot special that they always have. They also have something fun going on here almost every night. They have steak night on Tuesday nights. I have done karaoke here (Wednesday nights), bought records and homemade crafts (some Sundays), had a business meeting here, seen live shows, brought my dog and my son at different times. The food truck they have is bomb too. I almost always get the queso and fries but I really can’t say anything bad about anything on the menu. It’s a really great place that you have to check out if you haven’t!Parking: There’s a parking lot that wraps around the building and another one behind that.Kid-friendliness: Kids are allowed before a certain time and not during some eventsWheelchair accessibility: I can’t think of any stairs here“
“Wow, just wow. There are some restaurants which get everything right and ofcourse deserve 5 stars across the board but there are a few restaurants which just amaze you by the story of the folks running the show AND going above and beyond. This is exactly that place. A bunch of westerners claiming to run an Indian restaurant in a sleepy German town in the United States. And not only have they claimed they have conquered preparing and serving Indian food.I stepped into the restaurant without much expectations and hesitantly ordered the chicken trio, which is comprised of:1. Chicken curry2. Chicken tikka masala3 butter chickenFor appetizers, ordered the chicken 65 and the loaded samosas.First came the chicken 65, which was decent. Then the samosas, which were amazing, just like the way how it’s supposed to be back in India. The channa masala and the yogurt were perfect on the delicious samosas. The butter chicken - I can promise you, you cannot get butter chicken of this quality, texture and taste back at home in India at even one of the better restaurants. The chicken curry - just perfect. The chicken tikka masala - delicious.Beyond the food, the simplicity with which we were served the food. The friendly and openness of the servers was cherry on the top.I would recommend North street curry shop to anyone looking for top notch Indian food.“
“We went to eat at Los Sancho. The food was delicious!!!?....BTW, it is Honduran food. We ordered Honduran tacos (which is like Mexican flautas but with a twist)and catrachas(which are like tostadas but done their way)....yes... I would recommend this to anyone who likes Central American flavors or anyone curious to taste interesting and delicious food!! We will be returning to this place whenever we are in San Marcos....“
“It was cold and rainy outside so I and my granddaughter decided to dine in. It was colder inside. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and was disappointed that it was a compressed patty that was very unappealing. It was also sloppily assembled. It was not busy but took quite awhile to get our order done. The restaurant was clean. But very cold. I've ordered other times at the drive thru window and had a burger that was much better than the grilled chicken sandwich. Also the service was much faster. Must have been a bad day. I will go back but I'll stick with the burger next time.Dietary restrictions: Not diabetic friendly“
“Wow! This place is great. I made my own bowl and I can’t stop raving about how good it is—fresh ingredients and great tasting. Employees were very kind and patient. It’s so nice to be able to go to a place with healthy food. For me, one bowl is enough for lunch and dinner. Highly “
