The two others had some wonderful eggs-benny. My eggs were perfect, the toast was perfect, the bacon was crispy, and the sausages were spicy and succulent, making for a delicious meal. Arlene was wonderful throughout the whole meal so thanks to her especially!”

“My daughter and I dined at 530pm yesterday, May 24th 2025. We chose to sit in the dining room. We were lead to a table by the fireplace under a great chandelier. The ambiance of Joey Crowfoot is lively and warm. Comfortable seating, perfectly sized tables, and excellent lighting. Our server, whose name I can't recall - tall dark and handsome and a theater major - was attentive and friendly. The food we had was absolutely incredible. We chose goyza dumplings to start which were so flavourful and perfectly cooked. My daughter ordered the hamburger and fries and even with her braces bothering her, she demolished. My blackened chicken with warm potato salad was hands down the BEST meal I've had in a restaurant in a long, long time. I will be dreaming of that salad until I can get back there again !!”

“I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was, especially considering how affordable everything is. It’s rare to find a place where the prices are low but the quality doesn’t take a hit, and this spot really delivers. Every dish we tried tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and clearly made with more care than you’d expect for the price point. I'm not saying the food was perfect or life changing, but very good for the price.

The portions were generous, the flavours were pretty on point, and it didn't feel “cheap” except the actual cost — which is a huge win. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite for your lunch break or planning a casual meal out, this is a great choice if you want good-quality food without spending a lot.

I will say that it does feel a bit like a cafeteria, which doesn't surprise me too much considering it's surrounded by office buildings all around downtown. It's not like a formal restaurant with table service, reusable plates and utensils and such, but still a very cozy little spot.

Overall, it’s a budget-friendly place that doesn’t compromise on taste or quality. It did lack a little authenticity and there are small things that lowered the taste experience a bit, but absolutely zero complaints for the price. I’d definitely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for great value at a cozy little spot.”

The event was flawlessly organized and orchestrated by the Hy's team, the food was next level even by Hy's standards and the service exceeded anything we have experienced anywhere in North America even in the finest hotels. Bryant Olender added a classic background with piano and vocal stylings that perfectly suited the atmosphere. It was certainly the best evening we have at Hy's over the last decade, and I don't think I'm overstating it to say it was a "Once in a Lifetime" experience. Watch out for their announcement/s at Instagram and book at TOCK. I got mine in November 2021 for February 2022 dinner. Chef Darren shared that in the latest offering, 36,000 people went in and it sold out in 30 seconds. You will receive an email for dining reservations and included are instructions how to get to Eight. Located at ALT hotel at East Village in Calgary, Alberta. Complimentary underground parking. Be early, reception will send you at NUPO bar before you’ll be invited over to the secret door leading to your seat. 2. FOOD There are no words to describe the gastronomical experience this 15-course dinner (with snacks) offered. All the superlatives can be used. Fall in love with the plethora of Canadian ingredients married into the greatness Chef Darren’s mind. Well intentioned sourcing of fresh local, farm owned ingredients in your plate. Each made great with time whether it’s the reclaimed dairy cow’s beef, cured bacon goodness — it’s clear! (yum) and rich chicken broth. From east to west ingredients, indulge in what each coast brings through texture, colour and scents. It’s a win after win, one plate, one bowl at a time. 3. PAIRINGS Truly recommended to take it! As serendipity has it, it was Season 8 and Eight’s 2nd anniversary. The last pairing of Espresso, Licor 43 was replaced by a Ruinart Blanc de Blanc to celebrate with Chef Darren and his staff. Lucky! 4. AMBIENCE Low light, one bulb overhead per person highlights the food in front of you. Across is a marbled island where the action happens. It’s a cozy distance to chat with other guests to your side and still well-spaced to enjoy your spot (and your date!) Leather bar seats, metal backing art at the corner adds to the mystery feel of the eluded box. 5. STORY TELLING This is a vital part of the dining experience. Chef Darren walks through the history of ingredients and how he came up with the course. Very interesting, heartwarming and funny stories to hear. 6. SYMPHONY The smooth flow of chef, assistants and server movements : cooking, plating, serving timing, wine glass replacement and bread offering is a flawless operations at an optimum (small) space. It is a feat. 7. CERAMICS The handmade, locally made plate counts. The 24 Karat lined cup and the stacked bowl of snacks counts. It’s beautiful. Hello Quinspired Ceramics ✨ 8. INVESTMENT Worth every Canadian dollar. $245pp dinner + $145pp pairing (optional) + 20% gratuity + taxes Ending note: There is a no photo policy and it suits your dinner experience as you’re fully immersed into the story telling and presentation. You are given a small folder, tucked in is the menu + pairing details. Inside the folder is poignant essay of Chef Darren’s thoughts how the Canadian Reflection Menu came about. Take it as poetry! A map of Canada is inserted and handwritten in each province were ingredients used that night. Overall, this was a great experience. Calgary is lucky to have Eight. Well done! Bravo Chef Darren! Now, best of luck to booking a seat!”

“Beautiful atmosphere. The place is not very big, but very cozy. The service truly deserves 5 stars — the woman behind the bar is always friendly, kind, and professional. She gives excellent service every time, is very responsive, and it’s always a pleasure to talk to her. She even helped us clean up after we accidentally spilled hot chocolate, which we really appreciated. Honestly, she deserves a bonus for the way she treats customers!

As a coffee lover, I can say the quality is excellent — very well prepared and truly delicious. It’s not easy to find coffee like this in Calgary. The food was also tasty and stored properly and neatly.”

“We live in the area but we had never tried this restaurant before. We found everything we had very good overall.

We had sushi, sashimi, and tried several rolls. The rolls were hit and miss, but overall most of them were pretty good. Sushi was great too, but the sashimi stole the show. Very nice quality and big chunky pieces.

The place looks nice overall and it was very clean. The staff were excellent. Very friendly, polite and attentive.

We’ll be coming back to try some of their other dishes and have their excellent sashimi again.”
