“I have been to many fine dining restaurants however the experience at Marilena Cafe with Josh was phenomenal and next to none. He had great hospitality, recommendations and attention to detail.We tried oysters, sushi, pasta, steel head, chicken and desserts. Couldn’t find a single dish that i didn’t like. They have great vegetarian options as well.We were so happy that we visited the next day as well and had the best time. Highly recommended.Vegetarian options: Great garden sushi and pasta”

Service is very attentive and checks in regularly to see if you need anything or to refill water. There is also convenient and abundant parking in the adjacent Wharf street parking lot, just be sure to enter via the right lane as you can't turn left into the lot.”

“Our waitress Mercedes was 10/10 fab. From the start she was able to recommend a new grape for us based on our preferences, and then at the end of our dinner she gave us a complimentary dessert “just because she liked us”?? Wow. Mercedes is the best. Love her!!We were visiting Victoria from Calgary, for a wedding. We’re big wine drinkers, love Italian but half of the time find it either underwhelming or overly rich. This food was neither of that. I ordered the rack of lamb which was honestly double the size that I was expecting, and fab, and my husband ordered the FRUTTI di MARE della CASA that was the best both of us have had. Sometimes it’s too creamy, or too rich. This was perfect. Just enough citrus garlic and wine.10/10. We were actually recommended this place by our cab driver. Best recommendation ever.”
“My husband convinced me to try Gyrosa for 3 weeks. Added we make Greek food weekly as we love a Mediterranean diet. To be completely honest, I agreed with zero expectations. “I moved to victoria from alberta and was looking for a restaurant and I came across this place and very happy I did as it brings back a feeling of mom's cooking in a friendly and piecful atmosphere, the food is made with love and you can taste it in every bite!”

So many alternative and effective sanitizing sprays to choose from that don't smell horrid.”

“We came on a Sunday at 11:30am and we were the first ones seated. It quickly filled up by 12pm. I got the assorted katsu set ($23) and the buta don set ($23).The assorted katsu set comes with 2 shrimp 2 pork and 2 chicken. The katsu is so light and crispy. Not oily whatsoever. The cabbage comes with the usual sesame sauce which balances off the katsu well. Their side dishes change every day which is nice. Today's side dishes was spinach, dumplings, fried shrimp on veggies. Each set also comes with miso soup and rice.The buta don set was pretty basic. Seasoning wasn't too strong. This is definitely home comfort food. I loved that it came with lots of salad. The meat goes so well with rice.Love their sets as they offer a huge variety of items. Their side dishes are always well thought out and always includes some kind of tempura.We had asked them if they have dessert and they said they had a sesame ice cream dessert which comes with red bean and sesame balls ($8). This dessert is a MUST ORDER if you love sesame. It wasn't overly sweet (except for the red bean but I think that's the offset the slight bitterness of the sesame). I would come back for this dessert alone.Overall I loved the vibe of this little Japanese restaurant/cafe. They don't do they sets to go yet so keep that in mind. I believe they have different things for to go menu. Their service is super friendly and nice. The food also comes out really fast. Would recommend if you are in the are and looking for some home cooked Japanese food”

“The people here are so so lovely and the food is very good! Fresh fish, good portions, reasonable prices. The poke bowls are particularly tasty, and their rolls are also always excellent (caterpillar roll and futomaki roll are two of my favourites). Also have a fun assortment of drinks including several flavours of Ramune. Easy to order online, usually prepared within 15-20 minutes for pickup. My coworkers and I are regulars.”

First time in the rebuilt Oak Bay Beach Hotel and it was gorgeous, upscale but not pretentious.Had the Bianco Verde and Margherita with added arugula. The tomato sauce was flavourful and the outer crust was chewy and nicely done. It got quite soggy quickly so perhaps the thickness under the toppings needs to be dialed in, but will definitely be back!”

Yesterday, one of his co-workers mis-heard me in the drive through (and tbh wasn’t very kind about it and was certain I ordered wrong… I can hear you even in my car lol). I was charged for food I didn’t order and the total was $$$. After I tapped my card, I realized the order was wrong. Josh did the MOST for me. The register machine wouldn’t refund me and Josh was willing to try everything before alternative options (like a gift card). Josh + the co-worker with a beard… legends! But the sandwich is good enough. Try the fried pickles too. Later we tried the salmon chowder which was flavorful. The place is crowded. Not sure about parking since we were staying in downtown and this place was close by. Definitely a beautiful view .”

“My husband and I stopped in here on our way back to our Airbnb for the night. Staff was super nice and we didn't have to wait long. It was still hot by the time we got back. I'm so glad we stumbled upon this place because it was a meal highlight of the trip. The flavors are unbelievable and I wish I would have gotten my own burger! Highly recommend the bacon cheeseburger with Montreal poutine. What I wouldn't give for some right now!”

“Excellent for events! I hosted a surprise party for my partner and the upstairs was the perfect venue! Gavin and the HSBW staff helped me plan this event and they were so helpful organizing catering and making the day go off without a hitch. The food was amazing and affordable (focaccia pizza and local charcuterie are a must try), beer was fantastic, and the HSBW staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and looked after. The space holds around 30 people and is nice and private but you can also book the downstairs area for larger groups. Thanks HSBW team!”

They’re always so nice to add extra base if needed which is way less than at other Starbucks locations because they actually read the drink tag.I’m so grateful for this location and them always being kind when accommodating my needs! “The dine around caused some issues with our meal since I was the only one in a party of 6 that got the dine around.I am not sure what happened but I got my first course (appy) at the same time as everyone else got their meal. And then by the time I got my main course, everyone else was finished their meal.So that was a little annoying!However the manager heard my complaint and comp'd the meal. I got the assorted katsu set ($23) and the buta don set ($23).The assorted katsu set comes with 2 shrimp 2 pork and 2 chicken. The katsu is so light and crispy. Not oily whatsoever. The cabbage comes with the usual sesame sauce which balances off the katsu well. Their side dishes change every day which is nice. Today's side dishes was spinach, dumplings, fried shrimp on veggies. Each set also comes with miso soup and rice.The buta don set was pretty basic. Seasoning wasn't too strong. This is definitely home comfort food. I loved that it came with lots of salad. The meat goes so well with rice.Love their sets as they offer a huge variety of items. Their side dishes are always well thought out and always includes some kind of tempura.We had asked them if they have dessert and they said they had a sesame ice cream dessert which comes with red bean and sesame balls ($8). This dessert is a MUST ORDER if you love sesame. It wasn't overly sweet (except for the red bean but I think that's the offset the slight bitterness of the sesame). I would come back for this dessert alone.Overall I loved the vibe of this little Japanese restaurant/cafe. They don't do they sets to go yet so keep that in mind. I believe they have different things for to go menu. Their service is super friendly and nice. The food also comes out really fast. “Tried it out for the first time yesterday, and it has rocketed into my top recommendations for Victoria. Nice, unpretentious vibe. Definitely laid-back and hipster, not fine dining. Would be a great place to meet with friends for drinks and happy hour. The food is absolutely spectacular. One of the best selections of oysters I’ve had in a restaurant (including places like Araxi) and reasonably priced (I will definitely come back for their two dollar happy hour oyster shucks.) The absolute star was the Wu-Tang clams. My wife loved the lobster roll as well.Cocktails were well thought out options that pair well with their dishes, but I think I would stick with their reasonably priced wine and beer list.Almost everything on the menu is seafood. If you bring someone who doesn’t eat it or is allergic there is a salad and a cheeseburger as options for them but that’s it.”

“I ordered the Mini Meal for $25, which I did not find was that mini! First out were 2 garlic knots which were heavenly goodness of fresh, fluffy, garlicky dough that I dipped in nicely contrasting ranch dip. The main dish was "thick crust" single pizza of Superfunghi. The "thick crust" was not what I was expecting. It tasted more like toppings on focaccia bread. The herbed potato cream on the pizza didn't really work for me as it made the rest of the pizza, especially the arugula, soggy. I ended up asking for some olive oil to dip the pizza in (which I was not informed in advance would be $0.50 extra until it showed up on the bill at the end). For dessert, there were 4 flavours of ice cream to chose from. Overall, I really enjoyed the raspberry cheesecake that I picked. It was a little sweeter and the raspberry flavour was not as natural as I would like, but the shortbread in the ice cream was a nice twist. The cookie that came with the ice cream was a bit frozen, but I did not mind it as I was so full from the rest of the meal and had to take the cookie to go.”

“The dine around caused some issues with our meal since I was the only one in a party of 6 that got the dine around.I am not sure what happened but I got my first course (appy) at the same time as everyone else got their meal. And then by the time I got my main course, everyone else was finished their meal.So that was a little annoying!However the manager heard my complaint and comp'd the meal. That was truly excellent customer service and I really appreciated that he recognized the awkwardness while I ate my meal and everyone else was done.Also, because of that we ordered an extra bottle of wine so I think it was a win for everyone.So great recovery and this saved the evening. Thanks Cactus Club manger!Oh, and the appy I got (Ravioli) was the most amazing combination of flavour. I could have had a whole meal of that.”

“I’m Chinese and this is easily the best Chinese restaurant on the island. So happy I found this gem! The owner is super nice and he makes his own noodles fresh in house. I recommend the beef noodles, dumplings, the eggplant dish and the amazing savory pancakes! The meatballs vermicelli soup from here is my absolute favorite, it’s so delicious and it’s not on the main menu so ask for that when you order. Can’t wait to come back to try the roast duck. Give this place a try and you won’t regret it”

“We used to order from Jones BBQ but haven't for about 2 years. We just did and unfortunately are very disappointed. The quality has gone downhill. The brisket on the totchos was very little, and what was there was mostly fat - not just a "fatty cut of brisket," but actual chunks of fat thrown in there. Also, the pulled pork sandwich was super greasy and the bun was saturated. We only ate half of our dinner because the food was unappetizing. We did call to give feedback and were told that if we don't want that fatty brisket, we need to ask for a leaner cut. Well, that wasn't the case two years ago. So overall, prices are up, quality is down, and the service was poor. Even after reporting the issues and that our stomachs weren't feeling great from all the grease, we got an "I'm sorry, have a wonderful day." They knew we weren't satisfied with the food and didn't offer any sort of remedy. They couldnt have made it any more obvious that they dont care. We definitely won't be back.”

“I don't really understand the low ratings for this restaurant. We decided to go here for family day and ordered the family meal for 6 and prawns in black bean sauce. The food was delicious and arrived quickly. The egg rolls were by far the best I have ever had. Our server was kind and made us feel like we were family. We were doted on and spoiled and even when we were leaving we were acknowledged and thanked and asked to come again. The restaurant is older and has been in the area for a long time so it isn't the Ritz but it was authentic and the service was incredible and we were all so pleased that we are definitely going back. The portions were massive and way below what we would have paid anywhere else. I am writing this review 5 hours later and we are still stuffed. We would like to thank Wings restaurant and our server for the incredible meal and service today.”

However the food was cold, the order went in at the same time. Papa Burgers x 2 they came out right away, the onion rings x 2 took awhile OMG they were cold as well as the burgers cuz they were just sitting in a bag waiting. a 30$ plus bill the food wasnt worth it.”

“Okay this is my first time leaving a review this place is really amazing and I'm not just saying that the staff and the manager are great the food is pretty damn good specially the donors cuz usually I go for the pizzas cuz their pizzas are phenomenal and whatever you guys ask for they do it up for you I've been with the gorge one for 6 plus years off and on and now I'm at the quadra Street and the staff is really nice there too. I think a lot of people should try out this place the one on quadra Street and Gorge and you're really get bang for your buck I noticed even their pastas really good too and they have delivery or you can go pick it up and they have pretty good prices too. “A lovely place to get quick bites and also pocket friendly in a downtown full of pricey restaurants. We had the Salmon sandwich and the tacos. The taco isn’t sufficient if you are an hungry adult. But the sandwich is good enough. Try the fried pickles too. Later we tried the salmon chowder which was flavorful. The place is crowded. Not sure about parking since we were staying in downtown and this place was close by. Definitely a beautiful view .”

This food was neither of that. I ordered the rack of lamb which was honestly double the size that I was expecting, and fab, and my husband ordered the FRUTTI di MARE della CASA that was the best both of us have had. Sometimes it’s too creamy, or too rich. This was perfect. Just enough citrus garlic and wine.10/10. We were actually recommended this place by our cab driver. Best recommendation ever.”
