“We aimed to go to Elevation 66 but it was closed for a private party. Ironically, my folks were invited to that party but my friends and I were tragically not. So we needed a wine bar and pronto. Tried to go to the new Banter Wine bar but it's closed on Sundays? That's dumb. People drink on Sundays and FYI, they drink after 9pm too. So we headed to the Scene Wine Bar which is in the same building as the very cool Rialto Cinemas Cerrito on San Pablo. This movie theater is amazing, because you can order food and drink from the Scene Wine Bar and kitchen below and enjoy it in the theater. Pizzas, beer.... So sad but the last movie I saw there was Lincoln in 2012 with my parents and hubby. We didn't know at the time that my mom was already on the path of dementia, oh how blissfully ignorant we were. Fast forward to my friends and I needing a drink and munchies ASAP. Scene Wine Bar did not disappoint! We enjoyed a couple bottles of wine, Brussels sprouts, deviled eggs, hummus plate, cheese quesadillas and chicken fingers with tater tots. And endless conversation that you can only enjoy with your closest friends. The bartender was terrific and totally accomodated our weird requests of bacon on the side so our one vegetarian friend could enjoy all the deviled egg deliciousness. Although we made her pick out the prociutto from the Brussels sprouts. :) Great place and we will definitely be back, with or without a movie.“

“Everything about one’s experience here is superb. From the moment you walk in until the completion of the meal - it is top tier service. They care about all the details, from the freshness of each ingredient to the suggestions and pairings of items. We started with the olives and avocado salad - the olives were warm and juicy, and the salad was fresh and light. Paired well together! We also ordered both the squid ink special pasta and the truffle - they were absolutely delicious. We also ordered the garlic Parmesan focaccia and finished off with the chocolate mousse dessert. 10/10 recommend, everything was perfect!“

“Amazing experience! We came here after a show that ran overtime, so we were a bit late. Regardless, we were greeted with a huge smile and the cocktail menu. When cleaning up the first course of bites, our server asked if we would like to leave the sauce to eat with the bread we had left. We both found this very thoughtful because usually at these fancy restaurants I’m worried about my food getting cleaned up too quickly and not being able to enjoy everything long enough! At the end of the night we had to run off to get our car out of the parking lot and completely forgot to take our to-go bag with us. We got a missed call and voicemail to let us know, and they were going to hold it for us for another 30mins even though we were the last customers of the night and had already left! The service was amazing and so was the food. I cannot recommend this place enough!Vegetarian options: If you inform your server that you are vegetarian they will point out everything you can eat. From my experience, there was at least one dish in each section to choose from, and I didn’t order that much for myself.“

“We had a great dinner here for our first visit. Emma and staff were great. Food was legit. Price points are very fair. Will be back. One thing. I would love to see a tip line on the credit card receipt. I know there is a service charge included in the bill, but if I have a solid experience, and want to leave a little extra $$, I have that option.“

“We had an incredible date night experience at AltoVino! The food was absolutely amazing. We had an appetizer per the recommendation of our lovely server Christine that was maybe the best thing I’ve ever tasted and then my husband and I both had the Pappardelle entree that definitely lived up to the hype. More than the food though, the ambiance and service really made our experience. When we had a question about what wine to get, they sent the sommelier over for us to discuss with. Both the GM and owner checked on us. It felt like a cozy family owned restaurant meets fine dining. We will definitely want to go back as soon as we can! 10/10 recommend!“

“We had the best time at Sorella! The food was amazing and we left feeling full. The cocktails were perfectly balanced and delicious and the wine recommendations we had paired with our meal so well. Our favorite part about the dinner though was the service! Our waiter was extremely attentive but not over bearing. He was also hilarious which added to the experience! Everyone was so respectful and happy. Truly a great experience- we will be back!“

“Wow, this restaurant really does live up to the hype! It’s such a relief when that happens. lol. We’ve been wanting to check out Belotti for a while and finally came in for dinner. Outside seating was pleasant in the spring and the ambiance had a gentle, upbeat buzz. Wine list was nice and I was grateful for the thoughtful, well-balanced mocktail on the drink menu (I’d love to see them expand their NA program because the one I had was excellent).Food was authentically North Italian. Pasta was delicate, sauces were flavorful, courses were indulgent without being overly heavy. There were also some interesting dishes that I haven’t seen on Bay Area menus before, so that was pretty cool.Overall, it was a good time. Definitely keeping this restaurant in our rotation.Vegetarian options: Overall menu is meat oriented, but plenty of clearly-labeled vegetarian options that are fairly vibrant. They could probably stand to add a little more veggies to their dishes, but definitely have options for vegetarians.“

“If there’s any complaints possible is that the Chef’s pick was too much food. The lamb Massaman curry was unbelievable. It is quite possibly the best thing I’ve ever eaten. It was a fantastic meal with fantastic service. You cannot go wrong eating here.“

“Treating myself to a Friday brunch and couldn’t have picked a better place! I was immediately greeted by a genuinely friendly waitress and there was plenty of seating to pick from. I’m always on the search for a good breakfast sandwich and theirs hit the spot - so good!! I actually really enjoyed the smaller portions because they were so flavorful, didn’t make me feel stuffed, and allowed me to try the doughnut plate too:) Will definitely be back for more!“

“Great service and ambiance. Place where there are great places to sit for a quick coffee, go heads down on your laptop, or have lunch with a small team or group of friends.I was not blown away by the coffee or food I tried, but was decent and made up for by the rest.“

“TL;DR: Worth the visit, unique flavor profiles and pairings! Exceptional service. I celebrated my anniversary here and they did not disappoint! As soon as we got seated, there was a note to acknowledge our anniversary and it was a warm welcome! As someone who is indecisive, I enjoyed the structure of the menu, first two dishes were included while you had options to choose from for the next three courses. We had complementary Japanese milk bread to start and it was probably the best bread I've ever had! The cultured butter and warm bread make such a cravable combo! The second dishes were light and refreshing! The cured hiramasa had the perfect touch of spice from the Fresno vinaigrette and the Asian pear cut through ever so slightly making it a delicate pairing with the fish. The beet tartare has good texture with the horseradish foam and crunch from the pine nuts. Second course, the celery root ravioli was different and had a light herbaceous note that made the dish not too heavy like other pasta dishes. We added the supplemental agnolotti and they did not skimp out in the truffles. We're not usually fans of truffle but it was not overpowering and complemented in flavor and texture. Third course, we had all three dishes! Seared black cod and the A5 wagyu melted in your mouth, we didn't even need the knife to cut through. The sauces in both dishes cut through the fattiness and paired well with the decadent taste of both the fish and meat. The Sakura pork had a good chew and smokiness from the breakfast sausage was unexpected but made for a desirable pairing. Fifth and final course, we opted to try both desserts! The profiles of both sweet dishes were different but worth the try. The spiced chocolate had subtle ginger notes while having a good crunch complemented by the meringue. Spring forward definitely gave the feeling of spring with light and airy flavors of nutty coconut and green herb granita! All in all, I'd revisit to try out the revolving menus, the chefs really put time and thought in the courses and left me intrigued for what's coming up next. Service was kind, informative, and attentive. Our waters were always filled, dishes bussed, and table was marked all at appropriate times. Thank you again 7 Adam's team!“

“Been here a few times for drinks or a happy hour and SF Wine Society is a gem. It has a fun bocce court, is well decorated with a sense of atmosphere, and the folks here really know a lot about wine. And as random a compliment as this is to give, the bathroom here is seriously decadent, beautifully designed and fancy??? I think that alone is a testament to the care put into this place. “I am going to be generous and give it a five, the coffee I do like quite a lot here. There's a place not too far across the way for coffee as well but this place has it going in terms of atmosphere for sure. I very much enjoy the fact there's live DJs or music in general, while still a laid back and nice place to get from and go. I go every time I have morning shifts and it hasn't let me down since I started visiting. While I haven't explored it myself, I'm aware this also does wines in the evening.“

“A hidden gem for wine and dine in the downtown SF! Having previously enjoyed their sister wine bar of Bodega in North Beach, I was so excited to experience what the same owners had in store for us at Key Klub! The ambiance is dark and moody in the evening which makes it a perfect spot for a girls' get-together or a romantic date night. An ideal spot for conversations over a glass of wine. They have a great selection on natural wines which you can buy by the bottle or glass. Now, lets talk about the real star of the show - the food! my friends and I were pleasantly surprised at how delicious the plates are here. The mushroom fries were perfectly crispy despite the fact that they are drenched in a delicious mushroom cream sauce. The duck liver mousse french toast was a decadent and rich and the smash burger was perfectly cooked. Key Klub has definitely earned a spot on my list of go-to places in the cities and the mushroom fries alone are reason enough to have me coming back.“
“What a lovely new spot. We happened upon it during a walk and decided to grab a glass. Ambiance is hip, quaint, and chill. It seems clear that people in this neighborhood are really excited about this place - there was a steady stream of folks coming in the whole time. Wines are very high quality. I had a chilled red from El Dorado, really delicious and exactly what I wanted. My husband ordered one of the two beers on draft. We ordered the small cheese plate as well and all the Spanish cheeses were delicious. I can't wait to come back! I feel so proud when small businesses like this open up in SF and I am wishing this establishment great success.“

“Small wine bar in the heart of Russian Hill. Perfect spot for 2-3 people, since most of the seating is bar seating or communal tables. All the servers are knowledgeable about the wine selection and always have great recommendations. I love their orange wines and all the food is amazing. “Finally tried this little gem on San Pablo Avenue after passing it for years saying, ‘I gotta try that little gem’.A couple friends and I managed to get a same day reservation at the corner of the bar, which worked out perfectly. We ordered exclusively from the tapas menu, and I’m glad we did although I’m sure their paella and mains are equally exquisite.Everything from their BIMI to cheese platter, to croquettes and churros for desert were a delight. Each plate had its own distinct and satisfying flavor, and nothing we ordered disappointed.I suggested the octopus which sounded splendid, but my friends protested that octopuses (octopi?) were too smart to eat, so we compromised on their dumb cousins, squid. Dumb maybe, delicious certainly!Being a dedicated carnivore, I had little hope for the mushroom croquettes , but they were also scrumptious. Better yet were the chicken and crab croquettes, with each of us expressing a preference for one or the other. If you have to chose, I say go for the crab and my friends would say go for the chicken. The best solution is to order them both! The atmosphere of La Marcha is ‘classy casual’, and very lovely. Every table seemed to be celebrating something, much like you’d expect on a warm summer evening in Barcelona. As the saying goes, “You can judge a person by the company they keep” and I think this can be applied to La Marcha’s ownership. He/She/They must be remarkable people to attract the kind of talented chefs and servers who made our evening complete.I was too shy to ask our server her name, but I think one of the other (regulars?) called her Seejay (which isn’t a real name… I Googled it), or Cindy (a name I haven’t heard since the Brady Brunch). I’ll go with Seejay because it is as uncommon and unexpected as this young lady. Anyway, you’ll know who I am talking about when you go there. Seejay fills the room with her beauty and charisma, and she seemed to be one-person army. I don’t know if they were understaffed that day, or if Seejay just takes on the responsibility for the entire restaurant, but she seemed to be everywhere at once, and yet the level of service she provided my party made us all feel like we were sitting in the VIP section of some swanky club. I hope and trust that the ownership recognizes what a blessing they have with Seejay (or Cindy… whatever).Well, that’s about it. If you are still hesitant to give La Marcha a try, then all I can say is thatyou are more squid than octopus.“

“Such a hidden gem - One of the best Thai restraunts Iv'e had in the Bay Area! They have a main menu that mostly contains the more standard Thai dishes that might see at a lot of other places. But they also have a hidden menu with some really unique Thai dishes that I haven't seen very often here but had when I visited Thailand and this brought back tons of memories! For the 2 of us, we got the fresh raw shrimp appetizer, papaya salad with blue crab, crab omlette, and stir fried morning glory. All the dishes were yum, but the first 2 were quite spciy! Servers are also super friendly and price is very reasonable for SF especially considering its location in the Marina. Highly recommend!“

“A sassy classy breakfast! The coffee is straight-up tasty and the butter croissants are so fluffy to the touch. My wife had a polenta breakfast with a large chicken sausage ensconced within and I had a thin flat hot pizza with prosciutto and cheese and two sunny-side-up huevos in the center. Yumm! Service was prompt and courteous (almost courtly, she was so nice). And the atmosphere was firmly on the genteel side. But we needed that that morning. “I've been going to Sociale since they first opened and they are consistently great. There is excellent variety on the menu giving you lots of options. The pastas are very good, made with highest quality ingredients, as are the meats and fish. This visit we had salads for a first course. One of us has the veal chop and one the pork chop. Both were great. The dining room is cozy and the outdoor area is, too. There is a private dining room that can accommodate 15-20 people for those special gatherings. Plus, parking is easy and free on Sacramento Street. What more can you ask?“

“My wife and I are on vacation in SF and picked Fog Harbor based on recommendation from a family who lives up there. We were able to secure a reservation, were seated promptly at our reservation time and had a very attentive waiter. The blue cheese garlic bread was awesome, but way too much for two people. We split a garden salad and the mixed grill and added crab to it. They have two menu items that are crab in the shell, but you can add crab meat to any other entree. The mixed grill had salmon, cod, shrimp, and the crab. All were excellent. Green beans were the veggie and were cooked perfectly and buttery. We passed on dessert as the rest was very filling, though the dessert tray looked tasty when we saw it go by a couple times. The views of the bay are beautiful with the sun setting over the Golden Gate just as we sat down. “Uber hip but unpretentious; crisp execution on everything silenced my usual grumbling about "SaaS-like gross margins" on hip Bay eats. Also they seem to treat the staff well, giving back some of those margins on OpEx, including gratuity and covering health care, etc. The cutely lo-fi menu even reminds you to use they/them pronouns with the Zoomer staff, so bring your conservative parents to trigger them and have a laugh. Deeply appreciated the lack of choices on the wine list, cutting my cognitive load, and the curation did not disappoint. After I praised the place to the skies, the server even closed the deal by inviting me to leave this review, which made me wonder if the staff gets equity or just has mad hustle. Either way, respect. “Cafe Meuse was such a cute wine bar, and a perfect spot to meet up for a happy hour. They have $2 off their glasses of wine between 5PM and 7PM, which is not an amazing deal, but better than you will find in most of the city. We ordered a Kir Royale and a bottle of wine which was really delicious. “Amidst the bustling traffic in El Cerrito, there's a hidden gem and a recent addition to the area. Blink and you'll miss it. Even during a brief pause at a stop light when there's a chance to look around, it's highly probable that you'll still miss it. There's no signage on the building itself, so look for the wine barrels sitting on the sidewalk as your clue, or perhaps you'll spot their small sandwich board just outside their front door. Find parking somewhere near 10368 San Pablo Avenue, the address to Banter, a wine bar with a warm atmosphere, welcoming decor, and communal tables. Offering a curated selection of old and new world wines, Banter focuses on small producers who prioritize minimal intervention from vineyard to bottle. On location, you can purchase a bottle from the shelves to enjoy at home or savor a glass (or bottle) in-house. If you need something to eat while you're there, choose from various delicious snacks including cheese, charcuterie, and other tasty treats. During the pandemic, while drinking wine and eating cheese in their backyard, owners Claire and Devin were inspired to open a wine bar, but they wanted their wine bar to feel like "home," - comfy, casual, no frills, just...chill. A collection of cozy couches in the back creates an ambiance reminiscent of enjoying a drink in the living room of your most stylish friend. Classic VHS tapes and 80's knick-knacks are precariously stacked high next to small vintage TVs playing films that will take you back in time. When I was last there the original Flash Gordon was playing. You probably won't get to hear any of the movie dialogue because the bar is spinning LPs from an ever-expanding vinyl collection, fueled by contributions from patrons. A pinball machine in the back room adds to the decor's nostalgic charm and provides an entertaining distraction between pours. With a partial kitchen, Banter partners with local talent and the community to create new opportunities by featuring "pop-ups" - temporary restaurants that allow chefs and restaurateurs to try out a new neighborhood, experiment with their menu, generate a following, or just get some great experience for their staff. During my most recent visit, I got a front-row seat at the bar to witness Chef Emmanual from the restaurant Bolita work his magic with fresh masa, a must-have ingredient at the center of all his signature dishes. Most notable was the Tamal de Calabaza which featured squash masa, mole negro tamal, roasted kabocha, and cashew crema. A nice compliment was the Papas Rositazadas, simple roasted potatoes with black garlic aioli. Both were deliciously elevated and beautifully plated for such a casual environment. Unfortunately by the time you read this Bolita would have moved on to their next location but you can track them down on their website at www.bolitamasa.com. Banter will continue to feature pop-ups and to find out what's in store next visit their location or follow their Instagram @banter_winebar. As temporary as the pop-up food concept is, Banter is hopefully here for good as they focus on what's most important, which is most fittingly stated by the intentionally sloppy, hand-painted sign in front, "Bad Signs, Good Wigns!"“
