“Hard to find old school mom and pop Japanese food these days more so that serves proper katsu! Katsu curry brings me back growing up in Japan so nostalgic taste. I’m so glad I found this place.Parking: Small complex with limited parking spaces during normal business hours.“
“It’s our first time to explore the Japanese food around this area and saw the review of this place.Have to say, the food and service impressed us. We arrived around 2 which there was almost no one during new year eve, and the staff is very warm to bring us water first without asking. The menu is all very tempting, and we decided to order 3 rolls and 2 appetizers. The fish is fresh and the rolls are flavorful! The restaurant is very clean and wide as well.Strong recommendation on this spot!“
“Excellent food and service! Variety of raw, steamed, grilled dishes and the waygu sukiyaki was excellent. The neighboring table was noisy. Foreigners who speak loudly in an otherwise quiet setting. Otherwise the atmosphere was great. Will come back again.“
“Been coming to Higuma since the original owner and the place has certainly gotten better with the new owner. Food and the decor are much better now, but as a result the place is even busier than before. Totally worth the visit, just once or many more times.“
“The service here is unparalleled- the owner, who's also the one taking the orders most of the time, is so incredibly friendly and a real joy to talk to. I've been here so many times and talking with her is consistently a highlight of my day. The food here is also delicious - there are a lot of options, including the chicken teriyaki and various sushi selections. Nothing I've had so far has been a miss. The indoor seating is a bit smaller so I generally get food to go, but the option is certainly available for those who are interested“
“This was one of our favorite meals in a while. Kemuri is our current favorite restaurant and I would drive up from South Bay just for a meal there. Highly recommend checking this place out.Our favorite dishes were the mushroom tempura, spicy chicken wings, and wagyu rice bowl/paella. We thought the unagi sliders were just okay and would love to try other dishes like the garlic fried shrimp and black cod.“
“Sat at the sushi bar that was correctly positioned relative to the door. Got some happy hour (5-6 PM) sake and a chicken-skin skewer (unfortunately prepared with teriyaki sauce rather than salt). Later ordered two "Japanese" style chicken wings that were prepared with salt - much better. Had tuna, yellow-tail and salmon belly sushi that were all fresh and delicious. It's worth pointing out that the sushi rice was about a third the length of the sushi fish - the way it should be and usually is not.“
“Food and presentation was good. All the rice from my clay pot bowl was stuck to the bowl at the bottom and barely any rice. I couldnt even use my chopsticks to eat it nor hold the hot bowl. The sticky rice just stuck to the bowl...More veggies on top and some pickled, not my preference. At all. Other people's dishes were yummy. Saki was from a bottle and really sugary. I think between 4 people we went through 10 bottles over two hours because it was like shooting sugar water. Not my preference on that either. Too much for not much, if that makes sense! My friend took her husband the next day and they loved it. I will not be returning or taking my husband, not because anything was bad, but not our preference. Atmosphere was quiet and fun. We sat in the corner by a window. Very small inside and could get cramped if really busy. Was not busy when we went at lunchtime midweek. Staff was super attentive when we needed it and not when we were chatting. Which was great! Don't take my preference as a decision maker here, you might love it like my friend!Parking: We parallel parked right out front.Wheelchair accessibility: Might be a tight squeeze inside. Can access front with a wheelchair though.“
