“Great food, small family owned business. I've been here atleast a dozen times. My favorite is the stir fried egg noddle combo. Their pho is delicious. Then I like to top it off with a taro boba for dessert. Delish! Many different options to choose from on the menu. But this place I crave and I go often. One of my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in San Diego.“
“Absolutely delicious coffee and not overly sweet. So grateful that they had a vegan option for the classic Saigon Coffee as well. The line was long but the employees worked through it very quickly and were happy to answer any questions. Can't wait to come back!“
“Came here for happy hour and sat at the bar.(+) Cocktails were delicious - Kingfisher Spritz, Golden Hour, and Favored Winds.(+) Happy hour salt and pepper fish was very good.(+) House made egg noodles - super good(+) Wagyu smoked beef rib - really good.( ) Service was nice but we got asked how we were doing by like three different people repeatedly and it got a bit tiring.(+) Vibe is cool. Nice bar, ambience is really nice.“
“I had the best 2 meals of my trip at Thanh Tinh Chay! I got diagnosed with celiac disease 3 years ago and haven’t had great Vietnamese food since, but this place is incredible. Every single thing is vegan and gluten free, but you would never know because it is all so flavorful and delicious. As I was eating the Banh Mi sandwich I couldn’t believe the bread was gluten free, but our lovely server confirmed that it was a homemade recipe that took over 2 years to perfect. Many other items are made from scratch in house as well! The customer service is phenomenal as well, everyone is so kind and we were treated to complimentary desserts which were to die for! Especially the creme brûlée! I wish I lived in San Diego so I could eat here weekly, but I’ll be back every time I visit!“
“Did the hour drive from North county on a Friday afternoon (also called 40 mins prior to ask if they were still serving, as I saw sign on IG stating "until sold out" ) Def. Happy I tried this spot. Their pho is reminiscent of the Filipino "Nilaga" - like a pho-nilaga hybrid and with the chili oil, it hit all the right spot The owner's hospitality was second to none; felt very welcomed and appreciated as a new patron. Can't wait to bring my family to try this spot. Sending this business all the positive and blessed vibes so they thrive and continue to grow!“
“We went for lunch. It's a small easily missed place. I'm glad we found it. The food was Really good. We all had different things. The pho was full of stuff and the broth was delicious. The shrimp fried rice had lots of shrimp and was enough for tomorrow's lunch. The vermicelli bowls both pork and beef were very good. Everything we expected. It was worth the u-turn. We will be back.“
“The pho is delicious, especially the steak pho. The price is great for the size of the bowl, I never finish it but I always take it home and eat it after.Vegetarian options: The vegetarian pho is so good, a great variety of vegetables that go well with the pho.“
“Wow! Found this place by coincidence, but can't wait to come back. We ordered a Mom's Pho to eat there and a Filet Mignon Pho to go. Both were very delicious, even the to go one that we heated up later at home. The broth was exquisite and no MSG! We also had the grilled pork spring rolls and the grilled pork sandwich, and they were both yummy and devoured in short time. The best part of this place is definitely the chef and owner, Tam. He took time to come out and welcome us and talked about how he prepares his dishes. You can tell that he has a passion for his food and it comes out in all the flavors of his dishes. Thank you Tam and can't wait to come and try more dishes.“
“I can see why they call this Aces! It is definitely the top of the deck when it comes to Louisiana boil complete with potatoes, corn, crawfish, shrimp, clams, mussels and the most delicious broth, this was a meal to remember. Also got gumbo which did not disappoint!“
“Still great food but a much smaller menu in their new location. I haven't found a single menu item I wouldn't have again. A variety of vegan food items are available with quick service. The ONLY downside is the LOCATION with a small, cramped parking lot. Narrow parking slots with multiple businesses make parking a serious challenge. Only saw one handicap parking spot available.“
“This hidden gem is located in Barrio Logan close by 28th street. Great customer service. It was such a comforting family friendly environment. We ordered the chicken banh mi, rice noodles with bbq chicken & shrimp plus egg roll combo plate and 6 crispy egg rolls. Everything tasted delicious , freshly made and very authentic food. Nice portion sizes and extremely affordable. Must try spot“
“First time here and it was so amazingly delicious! Service was friendly and extremely fast! Clean and homey environment. Everything was so fresh and the portions were fabulous! Price was also reasonable. We ordered the Crispy Chicken Wings (the orange sauce that it came with was so good), House Combo Rice Vermicelli with egg rolls, House Combo with white rice and veggies, and a Taro smoothie with boba. Everything was 5/5. Highly recommended!“
“I've driven by countless times and never knew what it was. I won't make that mistake again. The food is varied and all good. From Pho to curry. Everything was made fresh, and we were all happy. The only miss was that there was no mint with the fried eggrolls.“
“Our go-to place with friends and family. They have a lot of good dishes for everyone and can accommodate large groups. My little one loves the calamari appetizer, my other child always gets the Pho and my favorite dish is the vermicelli bowls. The staff is super friendly. It's the perfect spot for a casual and enjoyable meal.“
“This place is small but OMG! Don't put the food in your mouth when it comes to your table because it is literally steaming hot! The chicken wings are like none I've ever had and fantastic orange chicken, egg rolls etc... DON'T MISS OUT!“
“Filet pho 4.5/5, oxtail pho 4/5, service 5/5, speed 5/5, value 3/5 Overall 5/5 Keep up the good work, ambiance, quality, service all outstanding and justify the premium. Only pho kitchen in mira mesa makes a better broth and overall bowl of pho, this comes in a close second.“
“Excellent service! The food was very fresh and tasty. The drinks (iced coffee and coconut water) were also delicious. They have whole coconuts as well! I ordered a to-go order that was very quick and still incredibly good after getting it home. The shrimp in the shrimp vermicelli was very flavorful and sauteed in a sauce, not just regular cooked shrimp. Very tasty with fresh mint, Lettuce, and sprouts. I really liked the steamed veggies as well, I added a little salt to taste but they were very fresh and a great mix of veggies. The chicken and steamed rice was also good. The prices were very reasonable too!“
“During restaurant week, I was enthralled by the vibrant colors that adorned the place. It's a delightful fusion of Latino and Asian flavors. A highlight was witnessing a seasoned female bartender patiently instructing a novice on crafting a virgin drink.“
“My favorite bahn mi place in the Chula Vista/National City area. Run by a sweet family and their bahn mi always hit the spot especially for the price. You can even see them make your sandwich as the kitchen is easily seen from the front. My favorites are the crispy pork belly (heo quay) and the grilled pork (thit nuong). Much love to this place and I hope they continue to serve our community with fresh bahn mi :)))“
“Been missing banh cuon and stumbled across this place. They have a limited menu and specialize in banh cuon dishes. I ordered the special order banh cuon plate which comes with three different types of meat, side of veges (bean sprouts, cucumbers, and herbs) and sauce. The banh cuon was good but a bit too peppery. The restaurant was hard to find but its located in the corner plaza with a supermarket. Service was quick and my food was ready in less than 10 minutes.“
“Food is great the people are friendly it’s a dive kind of shop but the food is great the only thing that would be better is if they take card it’s cash only and ATM is across the street in the grocery if they had an ATM in there it would be awesome.“
“If you like private this is the place, a bit out of date but really good Boba and Pho.I highly Recommend checking it out!Parking: It's right before the gas station on the corner. It's a busy street easy to miss.Kid-friendliness: It seems family owned and they're about the same height as kids........kid's need to eat too right?Wheelchair accessibility: Lots of room for Grandpa!“
“Food was great, the Thai tea was cheap and very fresh, came with free salad and ice cream, and the ambiance was also very pleasing. But most of all the service and quality of food was outstanding. Would recommend this top tier restaurant to people looking for a good asian fusion dining experience.Dietary restrictions: I got a drunken noodle platter but realized that it had nuts, which I am allergic to. They exchanged the plate without hesitation or charge, and they were nice about it too. Great service.“
“One of the best tasting pho in National City, The pho was packaged very well. It was prepared in a bowl with noodles and protein, and the soup was packaged separately from the container. Overall, it was very thought out. I would recommend dining in and / or take out.“
“Went here last night for the first time to pick up some Pho and Shrimp Spring Rolls. Extremely kind and pleasant customer service and the Pho and Spring Rolls were the best I have tasted in San Diego! Everything was fresh and delicious!! I have finally found my South-Bay Vietnamese restaurant. Will definitely come back and strongly recommend!!!“
“I came here the other day with my family for lunch (but it was basically my breakfast)! I had a small bowl of Hu Tieu Mi Nuouc: it contained shrimp, ground pork, bbq pork, liver, squid, fish balls... green onions, celery, fried shallots~ this was really tasty and it came out nice and steaming! I loved the shrimp, not over cooked and super clean. Everything was really tasty, and it was even tastier with the squeeze of citrus. Personally the tips of the celery (given on the plate with the bean sprouts) were too bitter for me. I liked the sliced celery 'as is' in the soup. I think if I come here again I'd order the hu tieu - dry noodle rather than with the broth. My mom had one of the dry noodle ones and it came with a "ragu" tomatoey sauce with the ground pork and it added a lovely sweet flavor to the bowl. In addition, it was nice to sip the broth on the side. To drink, everyone was given water with lemon. And then I ordered ca phe sua da. The iced coffee was light and strong. If you know Vietnamese coffee, I'm sure you know what I mean. This one had a good...vanilla type of flavor to it? It was really nice to drink. In addition, my mom ordered the fresh pennyworth drink with mung bean (rau ma tuoi) and it was sooo smooth. Very nice to drink. Not too sweet and not bitter at all. 10/10! I liked it, reminded me of the one I had in Vietnam. The workers here were really kind and spoke good English. They checked up on you to make sure the food is good. And when I ordered my Hu Tieu they confirmed with me if everything in the description for the bowl was ok for me to eat. So it's pretty customizable! The service was fast and food was delicious. There's a good amount of seating inside this restaurant! I can't say much about the other items on the menu, but I HIGHLY recommend that you come and try one of the Hu Tieu!!“
“Hoai Hue is truly a gem in the City Heights restaurant scene. Specializing in central Vietnamese food, you will be able to experience so much more of what Vietnamese cuisine has to offer, aside from the typically known Pho or Banh Mi. There is a parking lot next to the restaurant, but it can be quite tricky scoring a spot on this busy section of El Cajon Blvd. It gets packed at the restaurant during peak meal times, so make sure you give yourself some time to get seated. Trust me, it’s definitely worthwhile! Hoai Hue is a medium sized restaurant, very clean, well lit.If you’re not too familiar with Vietnamese food, not to mention central Vietnam’s cuisine, their menu has photos to help guide your eyes. Also, the servers are all fluent in English so they can help you select from all the dishes they have. Hailing from Saigon, central Vietnamese cuisine was not what I grew up with, but have had a few dishes and variations here and there. I just love Vietnamese food in general so this restaurant was nothing short of delivering. My family was visit San Diego and wanted to see how the Vietnamese food here was like. I remembered how much I had enjoyed this restaurant, so I took them here.We got 4 orders of each item to share family style. The Banh Beo was smooth and tasty. The Banh Nam was soft and had the perfect ratio of ground shrimp to rice cake. The Banh Loc was a a hit with everyone as well. The Banh Canh Tom Cua was just delicious. The broth was well balanced and they are very generous with the extremely tasty house-made shrimp balls. Everything was so authentically delicious that my family added a bowl of Bun Bo Hue at the end just to try it, even though we were all stuffed!Just writing this review is giving me cravings for their food! So if you like Vietnamese cuisine, then do yourself a favor and head over to Hoai Hue and treat yourself. You deserve it!“
“My mum and I love this little restaurant! Bún riêu and bún măng vịt are always our go to along with chả and their lemongrass sausage. The ginger dipping sauce is delicious! Service is good here and it has a chill atmosphere. One of our favorite places to eat in San Diego.“
“My first visit here. My Daughter had the salmon salad And I had the beef sandwich with fries. my daughter said that’s the best salmon she ever had. I had to try it got a piece from my daughter and it was delicious.. my sandwich was medium rare just how I like it. Very humble people love the location and atmosphere. People tend to forget this is not a fast food restaurant. I read other comments that it took forever to get your food. Don’t expect a McDonald’s service expect a five star restaurant.. The best thing to do if you’re in a hurry or a crunch of time order ahead. But I like to enjoy my food and take my time because life is too short. I’m in no hurry.. I will visit this place again and again. Whenever I’m in town thank you keep up with the delicious food and courtesy to customers.. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️“
“I've driven past Pho Van's neon light sign quite a few times when venturing into City Heights for Vietnamese food, but have never eaten there until now. It's easy to miss the sign on the side of the restaurant, advising of Parking In The Rear, as you drive past the alley right before the restaurant. There are also lots of street parking all around if you miss the rear parking lot.The restaurant was pretty much full house, with 2 small tables available when we went for lunch. The ladies are quickly dotting around the restaurant to take orders, run food and clear tables. They are very helpful with any questions or requests you may have. The man working seemed a bit confused the whole time he was trying to help out the whole time we were there for lunch. As it was a cold day, my partner and I were craving noodle soup, but something other than Pho. There is a nice selection of other noodle soups offered, aside from Pho here. I ordered Hu Tieu My Tho (#86) with Shrimp, Pork, Fishballs & Imitation Crab. It usually comes with glass noodles, but changed it to the wide flat rice noodles. My partner ordered the Bo Kho (#62) which is the beef stew with wide flat rice noodles.Service was good, except for an odd situation with the confused male worker that I mentioned. He brought over the Bo Kho my partner order, however it had skinny rice noodles and not the wide flat rice noodles ordered. He then told us that they made a mistake and put skinny noodles and asked if we were okay with that. We looked at him with confusion, not knowing how to respond, as we've never been asked if we would be okay with a mistake that the restaurant makes. Before we were able to tell him that we want what we ordered, one of the ladies yelled to him that it was for a different table and he just picked it back up and gave it to the the correct customer. As the "mistake" was resolved on its own, I didn't hold this against them for my review. Now, if it wasn't for someone else and he expected us to tell him if we'd be okay with their mistake, then I would have had an issue with their service.Usually when we order Pho, it comes out really quickly, but these noodle soup dishes took a lot longer than usual, but that's okay. The large size was indeed large and we couldn't finish our bowls. They sure don't skimp at this restaurant and are very generous with the proteins and offerings that accompany the noodle soups! Large at many other restaurants are about the same as the small size here. Both dishes were good and we got our hot noodle soup fix for sure!I will definitely be back for more meals in the near future and will have to try their Pho next time!“
“I've been going to the DT one for over 10 years, and recently had this location since I moved to the area. It is just as delicious & comfortable as DT. I could drink their broth all day long and their calamari is my favorite in San Diego. Always a good & satisfying time when I go!“
“Love this mom and pop noodle spot. Owner / chef always got a smile on and comes out to ask how is everything. I always get the phnom penh noodles dry style. Absolutely love the pork bone soup you get on the side. This spot is definitely a hidden gem with an at home feeling. Service may be slow when its busy but you got to appreciate their hustle for only 2 people working!“
“Since our local banh mi spot burned down, we had not found a new place that compared but this new place is amazing and their sandwiches are delicious! I would give them 5 stars but if I don't get there early enough, they tend to be out of croissants by noon and they are opened until 7. This has happened to me numerous of times. Other than that, they are awesome!“
“I have been coming here for years and love this place. It is the best pho in San Diego. My favorite is the pho curry chicken amazing dish that will leave you 100% satisfied and then some. Everything else is amazing too. The best part is the people. They are so sweet and nice andthe cook is amazing. And he remembered me after Covid ended and I returned! And my daughter said it was the best pho she’s ever had.“
“This little oasis nestled in the heart of Downtown Chula Vista is a tropical paradise. Friendly staff, who are welcoming, kind, personable, and know their menu. The beautiful atmosphere with music ideal for enjoying your evening. Loud enough to hear, but quiet enough to make talking with friends easy. The drinks are inspired tropical tastes of the islands. The scorpion bowl is heaven in a large cup and perfect for sharing. The fish and chips are my new favorite fish and chips. Fish and fries both heavenly seasoned and fried.“
“The parking lot is very small especially if you drive a big vehicle so be careful when you go.I went here because the reviews were pretty good and I was in the area looking for Vietnamese food. This spot is an authentic spot down to being somewhat crowded.I had the pho with the sliced rib eye steak and brisket. Our pho arrived pretty quickly which was good because they were pretty busy. One thing I always do is I have to try the broth before I put anything in.I took a sip of the broth and it was ok… it wasn’t the best I had. I tasted fresh compared to others but it seems like lacks some flavor to me but it could been just me. The steak tasted like every other steak I had at the pho spots however, their brisket was really good! I enjoyed the brisket a lot if I come back I will order double of the brisket.Overall, it’s definitely not the worst nor is it the best. I tell everyone to give a place a try for themselves despite how others review it because to each their own.Parking: Very small lot in the back and a weird driveway be careful when you drive in.“
“What a delicious hidden gem in City Heights! Seriously! If you don't know where it is, you are missing out! One of my friends told me about this place and I had to try! But you have to get there early, because they do run out of things. I love their noodles! Great flavor with vegetable and tofu! I'm trying to eat healthy. They also have some sweets like sesame balls with black bean paste. The man working behind the counter is really nice! He knows what I want when I walk in...and some mornings, if I get there around 10, he shakes his head, and I have to get something else. Cash only. I REPEAT CASH ONLY!“
“It's an unassuming shop that has a good variety of banh mis (sandwhiches) among other typical Vietnamese Deli selections. The sandwhiches were pretty good and fairly priced. They definitely hit the spot when you've got that craving! The staff is very friendly, if a little bit sparse. They do work quickly to get yoru order prepared. I liked their selection of banh mis, they've got the classics and few others for the uninitiated. The bread was great, crunchy exterior and soft on the inside. The shop isn't much, but if you're there for a quick bite it's not that much of a factor - cause all you want is that banh mi flavor! Would return to grab another bite!“
“This hole in the wall is so delicious!! The food is great and the staff is so nice and really helpful about explaining the menu! I’ve been here a couple times and around dinner it has been consistent and flavorful. Great pho for a rainy day and smoothies for the warmer ones! Definitely check this place out if you’re in the area!!“
