We've got North Haven's top Mexican restaurants covered for you.
“I got the street tacos, they were da bomb. I don't think their menu pics do justice to how good their food is, need better pics. Delicious food and you start to feel like you're in a different place after a few minutes, like Texas. Staff is fully bilingual and i saw someone wearing pointy toe cowboy boots. They give you apparently endless warm chips and salsa. I'll go there again.“
“Half restaurant Half bar means a really good time! And the two sides are separated so you can enjoy your meal in peace before it's party time! First we went to the restaurant. Food was good but I think every item could have used a pinch or two of salt to truly bring out the flavor. Started with guac and salsa. First bite was pretty much onion(very strong) flavor, second bite was predominantly citrus. It seemed fresh, again just needed a little salt. I went with the al pastor(pork) nachos because I love nachos. The pork was a little dry but overall a good dish. There were bits of pineapple mixed in the toppings which was actually a wonderful surprise and balanced out the dish! My friend had a burrito. She enjoyed it but said it also needed a little salt and maybe some type of sauce or salsa for more flavor. Everything seemed to be made fresh which is always a good thing, but it was a little bland. Drinks that came from the bar were amazing. The bartender (Mikey) did an amazing job in making the drinks. He also doubled as server on the restaurant side and didn't miss a beat! The Bar side was full of life. Apparently they usually have something going on. That night was Karaoke which was fun. They have regular(English) karaoke on Wednesday and Spanish karaoke on Fridays. Other nights they do have live musicals guests. There was a schedule of weekly events and happy hour specials posted but I forgot to take the picture. The entire staff is friendly, warm, and welcoming! I could tell that Customer service is important to them. Not sure how long they've been in business but I hope the word gets out and they have much success. La Frontera really is an overall good time!“

“Waited way too long to try this place. Absolutely excellent Mexican food. Had the pozole rojo which was delicious. The broth especially was so good. Also had a carnita taco. Not sure I've ever had pork so flavorful and tender. I wanted to try their salsa but here it's not complimentary and I was too full to order it. But will try it on the next visit“
“By far one of the best tacos I have tried recently in Connecticut the food here is great and tasty in all different ways. Compared to other taco places this place really stands out in the portion of the food and taste all for an affordable price 10/10“
“I have been an avid fan of Vivas for thr last 30yrs. I started going there in college, and I fell in love w the food, the owners, and the ambience. Kathy and Bruce sold the place, and I hadn't gone to check it out until this passed week... still amazing! The new owner commands the helm and demands perfection; he is ready to please. My wife had a fantastic monitor, fresh and delicious ?. We shared churros and I took some empanadas home; both were spot on. The crowd was fun, the place filled... soccer adorned the screens, and pleasant music filled our ears. Nothing has changed with the decor,, and that's a good thing; if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Vivas is a must do if you are in New Haven, CT and looking for a cool place to eat and socialize. 5 stars ?“
“We came here on a Friday night and had the place to ourselves which was a shock after eating some phenomenal tacos with great service! We had the carnitas, birria, and asada tacos with a side of chips and salsa, and loved every bite! If we are ever back in New Haven we will be back!“
“I ordered online for pick up. The food was amazing. It was ready quickly. The gentleman running the front was so nice and welcoming. I ordered tacos and they even picked me some chips, guacamole and different sauces. He also gave me a soda. I will definitely be going back.“
“I was my first time there. When you enter your greated at the door by a friendly staff, promptly your seated and given some home made nachos with salsa and bean dip, they arrive warm and really crispy, the atmosphere is quite pleasant the staff is always on point asking weather you need anything and how is your service experience. I got into a small conversation with one of the waiters and mentioned i was there for my birthday only to be surprised by a big sombrero and a staff singing to me. I was in shock but very happy they served me a complimentary dessert as well as complimentary ceviche made of tilapia fish. I must warn you if you go here please go hungry because the portions are ridiculously huge. I didnt give 5 stars because i plan on visiting again then i will edit my review accordingly“
“I go by this business twice a day to & from work. I decided to try their food this evening, so I got the chicken quesadillas & a chicken taco. I also sampled the Horchata & fell in love! Needless to say, I couldn't get home fast enough. I ate & have enough for lunch for tomorrow. Everything I bought is delicious. I will be in again... SOON !!! And thanks for the Horchata!!?✨️❤️“
“It was awesome. Great view and yummy food. I highly recommend everyone to try them out at least once. I will definitely come here again in the near future. Loved the food and music.Parking: There was plenty of free parking when I went. Street parking.“
“I love the way they decorate it the walls the airbrush painting it's amazing to see. This special decor just makes it a place all in its own category. I really did not eat much of their food. What I did taste was very good. They make the absolute fantastic cocktails. The place is very clean. Great for family gatherings. Great for parties I would think. Perfect for all . Plenty of parking. Including for handicap. There's nothing bad I could say about this place at this time.“
“We love Baja's! The salsa bar is always delicious and fresh, the margaritas are enjoyable, and the entrees are always yummy. I typically order the mango shrimp platter, which comes with 2 tortillas for making one's own burritos. The shrimp is flavorful, and the mango salsa is absolutely perfect! The staff is very friendly and warm, we feel so comfortable every time we eat there. We consider Baja's "our place" and when we want to eat out but don't want to make a fuss, we happily retreat to Baja's.“
“Amazing Al pastor tacos and carnitas burritos. Carnitas was juicy, rice was well seasoned and pillowy. Al pastor great depth of flavors and juicy. The red hot sauce was bomb Highly recommend this whole in the wall. Beats out a lot of taco trucks at the wharf. Will try the birria tacos next time“
“Don't get me started this is some good food by good people. Cleanliness I think they got some good Margaritas too. The fact that I can't remember means that they were good ? . Don't forget about the tamales and they have a. I enjoy a double steak burrito ?“
“The most authentic Mexican food I’ve had in Connecticut. Excellent quality for a very reasonable price. Friendly and welcoming staff. Food selection will appeal to American palates with standard chicken, beef, and pork items, as well as more adventurous choices like tongue and tripe. The atmosphere is strip mall takeout, but the food more than makes up for it. Definitely worth trying.“
“I love Taco Palace, it's my go to! The selection is great, and all the food is very fresh and tasty. The staff are all very friendly and the restaurant is clean. The prices are in line with any other take out and the quality is much better.“
“Great experience- food was delicious and brought out in a good time after ordering - our waitress was very attentive. A little noisy towards the end of our meal with a larger party coming in. Also appreciated having parking covered by the restaurant as well !“
“What an incredible taco truck! We came across it while looking for somewhere to stop for lunch whilst driving through the area. They are so friendly and the tacos are amazing! We tried several and they're all delicious, and the salsas they came with are so tasty!“
“Absolutely delicious food! I went on a road trip to CT and wanted some food, did a quick search of the area via Google maps based on where I was, Rivas Taqueria was the best choice. The food is priced right BUT the FLAVOR was absolutely on ??? only had a vegetarian burrito, vegetarian quesadilla with rice & beans also complimentary chips. The food was fresh, the salsas were excellent“
“Visited this place for the first time. I will preface by saying I haven't had his Mexican restaurant food in a long time. Enjoyed the fajitas which were flavourful and well-spiced but was disappointed by the mole enchiladas which had chocolate on them and were more sweet than (as I expected) spicy. The spicy margaritas (they have 2 different kinds) were excellent, and if you want a sweet kind, they have multiple choices as well (strawberry, passionfruit -- both nice). For dessert, lava cake and banana cheesecake (I know, right?) were actually delectable. The prices for Mexican food have gone up tremendously, and I was surprised to be paying $13 a drink and $20 a plate in general. All in all, Senor Pancho's is perfect for someone craving conventional Mexican food.Parking: Free parking lotKid-friendliness: Family friendly, with high chairs and kid-friendly options“
“First time after driving by for a cple years.Got the pollo burrito with everything.First, the flavor was outstanding, you could taste poblano peppers in the sauce, which was a unique substitution from the typical verde sauce ingredients from surrounding taquerias in New Haven county. Also, the chicken, the rice, the beans, all had their own flavor that, when mixed together with each other, married them all for a very satisfying taste. The burrito as a whole was well sized. The chix to rice and beans ratio was fair for the price. I liked the substitution of cabbage instead of lettuce, which I was worried about in the beginning, The burrito was sauced well, but not sloppy or soaking wet. The tortilla held up nicely throughout the entire burrito and didn't tear or fall apart, but it was still tender and soft enough that it was easy to eat.I highly recommend trying El Poblano if you're in the area and in the mood for some Americanized-Mexican food with authentic Mexican flavor. The only thing I will say, which ultimately isn't THAT bad, is the price. It was $11 for the Chix burrito. Steak/shrimp and lengua(I think) was $13. So it's on the higher end when compared to similar spots in the area, but you get a larger portion size, delicious, and slightly unique burrito, served up fast. The woman was very pleasant and you can tell that they take pride in their food and their restaurant. The restaurant was very clean.Parking: Small lot, so if it was busier I would've had to wait for someone else to leave first.“
“I was in Puebla last week and woke up craving a cemita today. I couldn’t believe I found such an amazing one so close - it would have been worth the drive from anywhere. This is by far the best Mexican food I’ve had in CT. The cemitas, tacos árabes and agua de maracuyá were all perfect. I can’t wait to come back often!“
“Wow! This is a must try if you are anywhere in CT! The most delicious and authentic food. Super friendly service and a cute seating area. Everything we tried was fresh and delicious. The restaurant seats about six, and takeout is an option. We had delicious hot churros for dessert! Do yourself a favor and stop by!“
“If you haven’t had a chance to stop at El Taco Dorado, here’s the reminder! Consider grabbing a bite to eat from there the next time you’re hungry and in the downtown area. The food is amazing! El Taco Dorado has DEFINITELY made it’s stamp on the corner of College and Elm street!“
“Every time I come here I'm never disappointed. The happy hour is one of the best happy hours I've been too. The service is impeccable. The shrimp cerviche was really good too, just need more tortilla chips on the side! Helps soak up the delicious sauce it comes with. The street corn (elote) amazing. Awesome place!“
“Best of pizza I've had in 10 years!! Excellent value, I got a meat lovers Pizza and it was loaded!! Everything cooked to perfection. The crust the meet the cheese everything. I would have given them 10 Stars if I! I gave them five stars for atmosphere because they're so nicen and very clean!“
“Overall we had a good experience, Food was very good, some very unique, wife loved the flight os salsas! Two things that need some work to get 5 stars, one is staffing, on the Wednesday we visited only two waitresses were working the floor, including the bar and hosting. I've never waited so long to be seated when there was no line and tables were ready! Once seated waitresses was awesome but she was clearly overworked that night. Also we were surprised on how small menu was, not a fan of overly large menus but this did not provide lots of options. Also first choice of beers we ordered off menu were out. So cooks great, waitresses great, management, not so great.“
“Great addition to the North Branford community bringing Mexican cuisine as well as classic deli sandwiches and more! The service is really great and very fast. The location is friendly, quiet, & bright! Come down and try all these great flavors, you will enjoy it very much!“
“This place now is my favorite Spanish food spot in East Haven. I know me some tacos and they got the whole situation correct. 4 was too many. THE SAUCES my goodness.... I felt refreshed and clean after eating 4 chicken tacos and my chocolate milkshake (highly recommended) I also get the spinach empanadas which are phenomenal. You will be greeted by lovely ladies that make you feel welcomed. Your food is ready quickly (I will only come here for my lunch bc they don't make you wait after you call in, plus the sweetness and respect from the employees go a long way for me)They deserve recognition and I wish I had something close to this in my town.Thank you ladies :):“
“ORALE, the food was amazing! This is AUTHENTIC Mexican food. I ordered the steak torta and my husband ordered shrimp tacos. It was the best torta that I've ever had and my husband could not stop talking about how delicious his steak tacos were. I used their chile de arbol and made sure to add it to every bite. The atmosphere itself is pretty small and needs some updating and they only had one person on the floor while it was pretty busy but that didnt really affect the service as much as I was expecting. Despite all of that, my food was superb and we will definitely be returning.“
“Perfect place for a family party! Staff is great with the kids and really makes the birthday kid feel special! Very impressed with the food. It was a pleasant surprise when the manager came to check on our party. Definitely coming back!Kid-friendliness: The chef was fun and made the birthday boy feel important turning 9. He even got the two year old to try the kid-friendly 'sake!' Great job, AJ Hibachi!“
“Wow!!!! My boyfriend and I tried this new little spot on a whim and boy was it GOOD!!!! Honestly the best Mexican I’ve had in the states and I’ve lived in LA, California. It was so fresh and well made. Absolutely delicious. The tostadas were fire! So was the corn but those Churros!!! Honey. Let me tell you. THE BEST THING IVE EVER HAD! Get the caramel. I’m sure they’re all good but we got the caramel. It was like a warm custard inside of the churro. I thought it was gonna just be a sauce you dipped it in. They were excellent!!!!! I have a burrito I’m saving for later but I have no doubt it’s gonna be magic. Don’t sleep on this spot. It’s 100% worth it and the prices were beyond fare. Oh we also got tacos. I didn’t eat those but my man. Did. He loved them!!! Definitely go! And go now before they get so popular you can’t get in! Also, it needs to be mentioned that the customer service was outstanding. They were so kind and patient. Helpful. And all with a smile. I’mTelling you. Next big thing in Wallingford ??“
“The food was pretty good. Seems like a better menu than when it was Azteca. The menu can use more seafood aside from shrimp. The service was excellent! The waiter was attentive and responsive as well as courteous. They had Mariachi singers that were fun and very engaging. They sang our requested song and an additional song that fit very well with the moment.Kid-friendliness: A restaurant for the whole family.“
“Opted for a torta at lunch time. The green salsa was super spicy and crazy delicious. The side of guac and chips equally good. Mexicalli stands out since it is the only black truck on Long Wharf. Overall love Food Truck Paradise, reminding me of the taco trucks back in California. Definitely not as cheap, but pretty tasty and a nice break from pizza.“
“So I went to Ikea nade a wrong turn ended up by a line of food trucks. Being hungary I stopped. I was disapponted when I scene 99% of food trucks were Mexican. I am not a huge fan of mexican food so i googled food trucks on dwarf this place had decent reviews. I got Taco de birria it was really good. It was a bit pricey because I got a juice whose flavor turned out to be one I don't like nothing to do with the food truck I just dont like the flavor anywhere. Anyways I wouldnt eat here again because I dont like mexican but if I had to eat on this strip again I would definitely eat here.“
“I don't usually give reviews but this place was amazing! Every staff member we passed on the way to our table smiled and greeted us. Our reservation went from 8 down to 5 people. Then 2 of our party were an hour late. We put our order in at 7 and told the waiter that we had an 8 o'clock show to catch- I was impressed with how fast the food came out! We made it in time for the show. The margaritas were wonderful. Everyone was very happy with their food and the service was fantastic!“
“I wish I took pictures of everything. I got the lemon cilantro swordfish from the specials menu, my boyfriend and his friend's wife got some sort of mole meal from the specials menu, and his friend got the crab cakes - all absolutely delicious! Awesome chips and salsa too! The salsa verde is my favorite! Great little hole in the wall.“
“Great bakery! I was overwhelmed with the choices. I had no idea what most of the items were but when I asked for some help, the person working (baker/owner?) took me through each and every item in the house! Much appreciated. We took a baking pan and some tongs and selected several items including some Mexican sweet bread. A guava/cheese pastry, chocolate croissant (nothing like a French croissant), and an apple turnover. Everything was delicious!“
“The food is good and freshly made. The staff is always so n friendly and nice without being talkative, which I appreciate. It’s always really clean and fast and they are good with my allergens too. I’d recommend it.Dietary restrictions: I’m allergic to milk and they make sure to take it off after asking of course.Parking: Parking lot around back.“
“Stopped by 1 afternoon for some traditional Mexican and this place did not disappoint. It is a mid size spot in the center of town in Wallingford. When you walk there are about 6 tables with the person taking orders by the register. The place is super casual and the girl working on the front super friendly. We had burritos and tostadas which were very good. The burrito which was what I had was super big and flavorful. Burritos are one of those meals that you can't go wrong with. The tostadas were what you would expect, crunchy with lots of toppings. Definitely a place to stop by while in Wallingford.“
“Found at the Long Wharf food trucks. Great authentic Mexican food at a great price. Nothing fancy, but you have a great view of Long Island Sound whole you enjoy your food.Parking: Parking can be tough to find on nice days. But there are alot of spaces.“
“It's a been a few years since I last visited, but I still think about this place from time to time. Whenever I'd visit my friend in New Haven, we'd always come here to feast on tacos and other offerings like tortas. The tacos are great value: $8 for 4 tacos for most of the selections. Best of all, they have my favorite variety of taco: tacos de lengua. Granted that the tacos de lengua come at a bit of a premium compared to the other varieties, but I'm more than willing to pay the extra $2. The taco fillings were generous and the chips + pico de gallo + salsa verde that came with each order was fresh. I wish they also gave radishes with the taco orders, but that's a minor thing. Next time I'm in New Haven, I'd be sure to come back here to have those tacos again.“
