“As a stranger in town this bar tender (Rod) was so friendly that he introduce me to a locally brewed IPA at his expense. I ended up buying more of that drink. I wish I had come to this joint the very first day I got arrived here. Rod is a good man and for all the colored folks I just want to tell you that this bar welcome all races. As a black man I felt at home in the mist of all white people. Thanks to big Rod. Cheers“

“I was there with co-workers and the food is wonderful. I loved every bite. The plating for each dish was full of color and looked like art. I had the Empanadas, my first time, and each bite was savory and full of flavor. I also had the Bistek Lo Pobre and it had such umami and full of flavor. My favorite was the Dessert. I had Mazamorra Morada and I fell in love. I also got a cheesecake - better then New York Cheesecake. Best Meal ever. I am definitely going back. Our server was the best. She was so kind and funny. I recommend this Restaurant to everyone that just wants good food.“

“The wait staff were very friendly and did a great job. Breakfast egg rolls are phenomenal , I would travel back to Des Moines just for them. My better half had the shrimp and grits and couldn't stop raving about them. She also had a habanero and mango mimosa and loved it.I had waffle and turned them in to I believe was the apple strudel. It came with two eggs and two sausages.I didn't care for the waffles it was a little under cooked. Eggs and sausage cooked perfectly.“

Having been a server in a fine dining restaurant many years ago what stood out to me most at Oak Park, on top of the amazing food and classy aesthetic, was the clockwork like polished service provided by the waiters and sommelier. Maybe it's a post COVID nostalgia for the old days of a well staffed restaurant, but it's been a long time since we've had every need proactively taken care of and plate settings artfully whisked away without thought. “This was a nice, chill retro bar in the downtown area of Des Moines. The service was awesome. Our waitress was quite attentive. They have a large assortment of craft cocktails. Valentine's Day hit during the weekday this year so we couldn't celebrate on actual Valentine's Day. I decided to get us tickets for the Max Wellman Valentine's Day event. First off I love that I can see all the upcoming events on the website. Totally easy to order tickets on line. I always stress about having my tickets up when I get somewhere, the front desk just asked my name and took us to our table. The show was great. Max Wellman always puts on a good show. He even had another performer come up and sing a song. The waitress was nice and attentive. I can't wait to go back again.“

“Cozy little place in West Des Moines. Was down from the Twin Cities for some other business and needed a quick lunch. The junction chicken was delicious and the sweet potato fries were some of the best I've ever had. It's a small place and seating is somewhat close together. “Came across this place out of sheer chance. The breakfast club is an 80s theme diner located in ankeny. Boy was I glad I did I got the eggs Benedict and my husband got the blueberry cream pancakes. Both were absolutely phenomenal. Lots of blueberries on and in the pancakes, and the eggs were poached perfectly on my Eggs Benedict! Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back.Parking: Come early. Lot fills up fast.“

“I am an activity director for a local memory care, and to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, we tried Finn's Pub. They were MORE THAN accomodating! We visited on a Thursday afternoon, and that coming Saturday and Sunday, the owners were making Corned Beef and Cabbage. When they knew we were coming, they whipped up a special batch just for us! “Well I haven't been here in over 20 years but it hasn't changed one single bit. The dogs are still playing cards and pool on the walls and the booths are the same just a whole lot more worn. Actually the booth had a huge hole in the seat that you could see clear to the floor. The seating was missing tiles and you could see large holes in the ceiling too. It really didn't bother me because you expect this here...it was however the first time I have ever been here with the lights turned up. It definitely needs to have the light on much lower... The only other thing is the back door you have to enter from since the city removed most of the parking. It is so dangerous. The concrete is deteriorating and broken and the steps are very scary. I suspect people fall back there regularly...But over all it brought back fond memories of times long ago!!!“

The place is cool and has framed photos of famous people with Irish roots.. We ain't just talking Conan, Bono, and Van Morrison we are talking Hitchcock and Detective Benson from Law and Order SVU's mom Jayne Mansfield.. Who I happened to just look up on Wiki to make sure on the spelling of her name and I discovered that Jimi Hendrix played on her music she put out in the 60's... WOW all I can say.. I feel pretty LUCKY to know that and pretty LUCKY to have gone to Kathy's.“

“A friend brought me to Winchester a few weeks ago for the first time. Classic, old fashioned whiskey bar (with a bit of everything.) The atmosphere is phenomenal, the staff are amazing, kind, and quick to help, and the old fashioned I've now had twice, is the best I've had. “A fun, uniquely decorated place that has great food and friendly service! The Cuban is pretty good, and not heavy on the bread. Thats a positive in my mind- better tasting meats and pickle spear with a tasty mustard that isn’t overwhelming. Has a patio for when the heat’s out, and nice, quaint indoor seating until then. “We were visiting from out of town in late January. Des Moines had just had a heavy snowfall and the streets were not in great shape so we wanted to find a BBQ restaurant close to our hotel and found Rrackss via the Yelp app. We were there at 6:00 on a Friday night and there were no customers in the restaurant. We thought they might be closed. Parking was limited as they share a small parking lot with other businesses. It was dark, raining hard, and the street in front of the building was very narrow because of the piled up snow and it did not feel like we could park there. The food was delicious, served quickly, and really hit the spot. Another couple came into the restaurant shortly after we did and with only four customers the waiters were able to be very attentive. Come on, Des Moines, support this great restaurant!“

“Cece is THE BEST!! On our past two visits, we have had Cece as our server and she is such a joy to have! Our drinks and waters were always full. She was engaging with our children making them feel welcome.We were happy to see we were in her section on our last visit to play golf for my husband’s birthday. Even while in the golf bays, she was accommodating, attentive, and extremely timely with her service. She’s a gem and we will request to be in her section next time we visit!“
