“must haves: spanakopita & lamb chops We just had the most wonderful meal at Avli on The Park. The service was so attentive even the manager stopped by and so kindly gave suggestions on what are "must try" dishes as it was our first time and all four of us could not decide. The hospitality was as exceptional as the food, the executive chef Nikos dropped off our first course as the dish came from his grandmother's spanakopita recipe back in Greece. I loved how we dined as we shared many small plates and one Entree (the lambchops) for four people while saving room for dessert. I apologize for not many photos of the dishes we enjoyed but we were just having a lovely time. I cannot sing enough praises, we will be back“
“What a welcomed addition to the neighborhood, small yet intimate. Fabulous food complete w/a fabulous, thoughtful staff - very attentive, always smiling!! My new go to place for authentic Greek food, aroma of fresh coffee, and exquisite orange pie. Not to be missed!!“
“Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. Great tasting food. It was my first time there and the food was very tasty. Not your usual sloppy pita sandwich, (although I love those, also). Nice variety of appetizers. I tried the zucchini keftedes and they were great. Nice portion to share or have it alone for a meal. (next time I'm going to order them with less sauce because I like the flavor og the kefteda). I'm happy to see a Greek food restaurant in the neighborhood. gives the neighborhood a continued variety of great places to eat. I will be back. Best of luck.“
“Bro im not even kidding, but i believe that this this is one of the best burgers i had in my life, its the double cheeseburger special, if you’re me this will definitely fill u up, and also if you want to get a late night snack this is the place to go it closes at 3am and its a good price too.“
“This place is special in a way that would almost makes me want to keep it a well-guarded secret. You don't really get this experience anymore, it takes a confluence of passion and community that's hard to come by in any era, let alone the modern, distanced, impersonal world we occupy now. This is the quintessential Chicago Mom n' Pop experience. Great food at ridiculously good prices served up with a smile and a friendly familiarity that makes you feel like you're right at home. The decor matches the patrons: humble, comfortable, working-class Americana and unapologetically Chicagoan to the core. You can tell most of the customers here are patrons for life, and with good reason. You always feel like a person here, not an order. They aren't just trying to turn over your ticket, they want to make sure you're taken care of.I can't tell you the last time I had perfect fries before this, like too-hot-to-eat, immaculate golden brown fries. I definitely can't recall ever getting them with a whole burger for under $7. I fed two hungry adults here for less than $20. It felt absurd, almost, like I wanted to pay more because it felt unfair to them that I'd pay twice that much at a lot of places.Just a positively perfect experience every time and we always make it a point to stop here anytime we're remotely close by.“
“I wanted to come here for a while since I walk by this establishment all the time and also because I’m not very familiar with Greek food besides gyros, and this place didn’t disappoint at all!The establishment seems to be very busy during weekends specially on Friday, but after a 20 minute way we got a table for two.For starters the fried calamari was delicious, crunchy yet soft and with lemon wedges and a superb vinegar-y sauce. We also had this sort of lemon rice soup which was fantastic. For our mains I had the lamb chops, cooked to perfection. My gf had the plate with gyro meat and was also great. Our server was prompt, amicable and fast, I can’t ask for more, visit this place you won’t regret it!“
“Fabulous meal and date night here. Quick and easy service. The short wait was worth it. The steak was juicy and tender. The apps and desert were fast to add. Incredible, reasonably priced for the meal. Only ding was it’s quite loud, cash only, and FCFS on seating, but if you know all that going in, it’s amazing.“
“LOVE NICKS! Great service, family owned, upbeat & inviting staff ? good energy all around, you can feel the mutual respect amongst the ranks & I love that. Happy employees = happy customers WHO COME BACK. *Nicks drive in* is the perfect example of this & my family always runs it back?NOW... FOOD? Nick's is known for their HOME-MADE GYROS & they are delicious by ALL accounts!! If you like gyros, you will LOVE theirs! Nicks makes burgers, hotdogs, mozzarella sticks, chili, popcorn shrimp, shakes & many more options, kids meals etc. Sit down & stay a while or drive-inn & drive out.I've been coming to nicks since I was a little girl getting lunch with my grandpa or grandma. GO FIND OUT.Yesterday I called in a pick up order& forgot my brother's milkshake on the counter. & instead of getting all the way home & changed out of my 'heavy snow storm--triple layered clothing' only to realize my mistake.. “My boyfriend and I ate here last night, and we had the best time! It was our first night in Chicago, and it was recommended to us if we like Greek food. They nicely accommodated us at the bar and we ordered fabulous cocktails. Once we tried the food, we felt like we instantly transported to Europe. We had two small plates one was the shrimp dish and one was the beef and lamb dish and we had the potatoes on the side. All three were 10 out of 10. The staff at the restaurant was lovely! If we come back to Chicago we will definitely come back!“
“The chocolate rum balls and spinach pie are delicious and the owner is so sweet. The chocolate rum balls had nuts and were super fudgy- they just melt in your mouth. This is a great neighborhood spot! Very reasonably priced so make sure to have cash.“
“Excellent value and quality Mediterranean food. The chicken shawarma came with generous portion and great flavor. The addition of four complimentary topping (I picked baba ghanouj, hummus, and grape leaves) also tasted amazing and very fresh.“
“Met up with some friends here this past weekend. The atmosphere is really nice, but it's such a small space... I wish there was more seating! Luckily, we didn't have to wait long for a table to open up. I ordered a hazelnut latte and pistachio croissant- both were delicious!“
“While unassuming and a little out of the way, there's nothing better than a restaurant/bar with a small town feel, cheap drinks, and an interesting menu. The bartenders were easygoing and helpful, the other patrons were very chill, and we were able to find our own spot and enjoy the day. We went on a Saturday afternoon/evening and had an excellent time.“
“BYG appears to be back to the ways they were before the pandemic of 2020. Their portions are generous again as before I felt there was major cutbacks in quality and quantity due to businesses suffering due to Covid. Loved the pork kebab (Souvlaki), tzatziki sauce along with the Greek potatoes and rice pilaf.“
“The service is great, I'm adopting the owner as my mom, and the food is very good and reasonably priced. Not very crowded right now because it's artic weather out. We bought a bottle of wine from across the street. Perfect night.“
“This is an iconic Greektown bar and restaurant that has been serving the community and others for decades, along with their companion restaurant, Meli Cafe, the best breakfast/brunch/lunch spot around. Great food and drink and nothing beats a nice day when they open all the windows and let the fresh air in. Friendly staff and customers and wonderful owners. A true gem.“
“Excellent Greek and Chicago specialties. We started with Saganaki (flaming Greek cheese), they used to flamblé at table side, now they flamblé near the table and when it goes put they serve it. We also had calamari (kalamari). I strayed from the Greek traditional dishes and tried the fried smelts; if you grew up in the midwest, you might have tried smelts, and Central Gyros served them exactly as I remember my mother did. We also got Pastitsio, a Greek lasagna type dish. All entrées are served with soup, and we all chose the egg lemon soup. Solid choice. Overall Central Gyros has been doing Greek food for decades and provide great food at reasonable price.Parking: There is a free multi-level parking garage across the street.“
“This is the best Greek village salad I’ve ever had. This is my favorite type of salad and usually the only type of salad I will eat. I got it from here a few weeks ago and have been thinking about it ever since….so glad I went back for it again today - YUM!!Their marinated meats for the grill are also delicious!!“
“5 star food. The fries are delicious, the burgers are huge. I haven't tried much else but the few things I tried off the menu have all been stellar. The menu is just huge, full of Chicago favorites. This little mom n pop can roll with the best of them. If you're looking for good food and not worried about glare, this is the place. I guess it's like they say, the more dangerous the neighborhood the better the food.“
“We came for lunch with some friends who are regulars and we were not disappointed. The food and service were great. The food was quick and everything was delicious with generous portions. We had the Avgolemono soup, chicken pita, filet mignon pita, Greek Style Ribeye sandwhich. Skirt Steak Sandwhich, and a burger. We around 2:00 and it wasn't busy and were able to find free street parking easily.Parking: Parking can be challenging. Read the signs carefully as some parking is by permit only, some is free, and some is paid.“
“Transform to Greece with Athena’s authentic dishes! The open air space and retractable roof with an outdoor patio is the perfect Greektown spot no matter the weather. Can’t beat the spreads, gyro plate & chicken souvlaki kebab! Reminds me of my summer trip to Greece!“
“Great to have a good gyro place in the area. It was lacking. All ingredients are fresh and flavorful. Chicken and fries were the best thing. Greek potatoes were excellent as well. Next time I'd ask for my gyro meat extra crispy because it was a little underdone in my opinion. Place is clean and service is fast and efficient. I'll come back for sure.“
“Wonderful food and service! There were 7 in our group and we shared plates of tzatziki, hummus, fried cauliflower and octopus with main courses of lamb kebab, oven roasted half chicken, and souvlakia. Great wine paired with the food. Will be back“
“I love a good gyro and Mr. Greek always delivers on that! The gyro meal was about 12$ for a hefty gyro, lots of fries and a drink. Good price on a super filling, fresh tasting meal. The wait was not long at all, and the restaurant was clean. Will definitely be back.“
“Just came from ordering a chicken breast combo, a pizza puff and a cheese burger.. and let me tell you. This place never lets me down. I’m very picky on my chicken breast and they are nice and juicy grilled just right. Always order mayo lettuce and grilled onion and the onions are even on point. They are definitely not greedy with the chicken either.Parking: Never a problem with parking.!!“
“The food came out super fast like within 7 min of ordering it. The food was plentiful and tasty (just a little salty but I like low salt food in general so for others it might be just fine). The rice was a little mushy and I like less mush but some like it mushy but it was good. For $15 plus tax ($17 ish) you get a platter of chicken and gyro meat plus salad with excellent vinaigrette sauce w very fresh salad and a choice of rice or French fries. Parking on the street w meters. Quick bite and dine in no waiter service so in and out easy. Great staff!“
“The place itself first of all is amazing.I had the Natural burger(medium rare) a few times and it's great, but my favorite is the steak sandwich it's ridiculously good also medium rare and I love the fries. You have to check out Big League Burgers you will not be disappointed.“
“LÝRA Chicago is a delightful spot that rivals Bagatelle, offering a sumptuous bread spread and an array of dishes including succulent scallops and tender octopus. The short rib pasta is a must-try, easily ranking in the top 3, while the lobster linguini falls short. With a nice bar and decent vibes starting from 10 PM, the highlight is the light show at 11. Be sure to order before the last call for food at 11 PM. A vibrant dining experience awaits!“
“I love Avli!! The locations I’ve been to, Winnetka and Avli Taverna, have a great philosophy, atmosphere and is intimate for couples, yet easily accommodates a family of 4 comfortably for a casual yet fine dining experience. The menu is thoughtful, including imported Greek oils, crafted unique Greek dishes masterly designed with every detail. Every desire the guest needs is addressed and executed. The plates are exquisite and the atmosphere is heavenly, magical! (No doubt, I imagine, and kudos to your VP and marketing genius Ian) I passed Avli on the Park New Year’s Eve and did take a video which I will gladly post/share! The energy and vibe permeated outside to the guests in line waiting to enter to celebrate the New Year with Ian Vlahakis and the friends and family of Avli! Laura Kennedy media market manager recruiter for Lincoln Park territory~chicagoland and north shore 847-477-6972 thank you so much God bless and happy new year! best to you in 2023, Laura Kennedy“
“10/10 experience from the food to the atmosphere to the service! I went for the spinach stuffed chicken and I highly recommend it. The portion was perfect. Daniel (the bartender) offered great service and great conversation. Although it was cold outside, I can tell this place will be amazing in the summer when the patio is open. I’ll be back!“
“Best tasting gyros in the city. Love to stop by when I’m in the neighborhood and am never disappointed. Plus they have so many other excellent options on the menu like the ribs, Greek chicken and Grecian salad. Great food and great service from a family owned Chicago landmark! Thanks Windy City!“
“My recent visit to Artopolis Bakery, Cafe & Agora left me thoroughly impressed, and I couldn't wait to share my wonderful experience! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the inviting aroma of freshly baked goods and the warm ambiance of the cafe. It's truly a hidden gem that offers a blend of bakery delights, cozy cafe vibes, and a unique Agora concept. The bakery selection is a heaven for pastry lovers. The array of fresh bread, pastries, and treats was a feast for the eyes. I couldn't resist trying a variety of items, and each one was a testament to the craftsmanship of the bakers. From flaky croissants to decadent cakes, everything was made with attention to detail and a genuine passion for baking. I ordered Le Symphony a chocolate cake with dark chocolate mousse. The marriage of the velvety chocolate cake with the rich dark chocolate mousse was nothing short of a masterpiece. The chocolate cake, soft and moist, laid the foundation for this culinary masterpiece. Its delicate texture provided the perfect contrast to the boldness of the dark chocolate mousse that graced its layers. As I savored each bite, I was treated to a symphony of flavors that danced between the sweetness of the cake and the luxurious depth of the dark chocolate. "Le Symphony" was not just a pastry; it was an experience that showcased the artistry of pastry-making. The attention to detail and the evident passion that went into crafting this dessert were truly commendable. It's a dessert that can elevate any occasion, from a quiet morning treat to a grand celebration. My visit was a treat for the senses, with the sights, smells, and flavors creating a memorable experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for a delightful culinary and cultural journey.“
“I accidentally ordered after hours from Grubhub, and the gentleman called and still offered to do my order! Talk about customer service!!!! I’m so excited to try their food and order again solely because of their kindness and flexibility! Customer service on point THANK U!!!!!“
“I always have a great experience when ordering from here! I love the food, it's very tasty, the Gyro is one of my favorite, I wish I could eat it everyday! I truly appreciate the great customer service though, we don't see that much now a days and its refreshing talking and ordering from someone that is nice, and knows what they are doing! Thank you Little Greek Kitchen I will be ordering again soon! :)“
“Overall a great staple to eat some comfort Chicago hot dogs or good quality Mediterranean dishes. Their Chicago dogs are everything you'd except with loaded toppings. The portions are generous and the pricing is great! Food can sometimes be a little greasy here and there, but nothing that you wouldn't expect. The food is relatively fresh and quickly prepared. Highly recommend visiting this local establishment.“
“The Greek salad was Awesome!!! Had everything in it and anchovies upon request! The Grecian Chicken meal and Gyros sandwich Awesome! Don't forget the freshcut fries, nice and hot upon pick-up! We'll be coming back real soon...We're neighborhood folk, and like to enjoy a nice delicious meal away from home, just like eating at home! You won't go wrong trying this place, if you haven't already!Parking: Parking is very convenient...right out in front“
“There are a lot of Greek restaurants along this stretch of Halsted. In fact, this area is known as Greektown. There are many old school Greek restaurants here. One of those old school restaurants is Athena Greek Restaurant. This is, of course, not to be confused with The Athenian Room in Lincoln Park (also on Halstead).I have been here a few times, and once recently. One, the food is very good. They have a very traditional menu. So if you looking for fusion or ultra modern this restaurant would not be for you. I ordered spanakopita, pork chops, spanakopita and the lamb loin chops. I enjoyed everything, but I particularly enjoyed the spanakopita and the lamb loin chops. The dough for the spanakopita was crispy and the filling was delicious. The lamb loin chops were tasty and tender. They also lit the saganaki, which is a must for me. Second, the atmosphere is amazing. I've only gone in the summer, and that the best time to go. They have a great patio and they open up a wall of the restaurant to create a great indoor/outdoor atmosphere. Third, the service was very good. The staff and my waiter were very friendly. Also, my food came out hot and fast.In sum, this is a must visit Greek restaurant in Greektown.“
“Homey, cozy family restaurant - glad we stopped in for breakfast (after driving past for years)! I don't know of any other place in the neighborhood that makes Dutch Baby / German Pancakes ... and Dappers does them RIGHT. My husband's skillet breakfast was great, and the coffee's nice and strong, too. We'll be back!“
“"Franksville Chicago earns my highest praise for its diverse menu and consistently delicious food. Whether it's gyros, Greek chicken, or burgers, every dish impresses. Even when we arrived close to closing time, the staff graciously accommodated us, allowing us to enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. Their kindness and quality cuisine make Franksville Chicago a standout dining destination."“
“I like the owners, the employees, and always love the food. My biggest complaint is that 9 out of 10 visits this place is always filled with smoke. It bothers my nose, my eyes, and makes everything I'm wearing smell for hours.Vegetarian options: Great choices for vegetarians like Spanakopita and egg lemon soupWheelchair accessibility: Street level entrance“
“I ordered chicken kalamaki & lemon potatoes. I am picky eater and I was pleasantly surprised how amazing both items were. Tender juice chicken and garlicky lemon potatoes, mmmmm!!!! Ordered take out, but the restaurant was packed! I really loved the ambiance. I’m looking forward to dining in!“
