“This place is WONDERFUL. I came here with my son after spending the afternoon at Urban Air Adventure Park. We got two half box orders of boneless thighs (original crispy and soy garlic/sweet & spicy), fries, and water. The chicken took about 15-20 minutes to cook, but it was well worth the wait. My son (the pickiest eater in the world) LOVED the boneless thighs, and even the French fries. I thought everything was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The flavors were all fantastic, with the soy garlic being my favorite. The fries were also some of the best fries I've ever had. Super crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside. The food also came with Cole slaw which was DELICIOUS, and I say this as someone who normally strays away from Cole slaw.Customer service was excellent. The woman at the front was very friendly and clear with describing the food. Their presentation was top notch also. The food was packaged beautifully and even the bag it came in was just really well designed. It was like opening a holiday gift of delicious food. I would highly recommend paying this place a visit, although you'll probably have to do take out since they have limited seating. That's probably the only downside I can think of, but they still deserve 5 stars overall“

“Delicious, playful meal with excellent service and a great wine list. The only downside - and it was a real downer - was the first dish: a sweet potato soup that, while I understand is supposed to be sweet, was cloyingly so. So much so, that if it were served as a dessert it would have been too sweet for my pallet. To have that as an opener was jarring - despite the small portion I didn’t finish it and found myself taking extra sips of wine to wash it down. It was served with caviar, but the soup was so sweet I couldn’t taste the caviar at all. I kept hunting for it to break up the sweetness but it was just overwhelmed. The second dish, a raw redfish, also erred on the side of sweetness, but not nearly to the same level. After that, things started improving. The rice cakes, the halibut, the duck and the bibimbap were all excellent. Wine was delightful and service lovely.“

“My friend and I ordered:Seafood pancakeDolsot Al bapDuck bulgogiSpicy monkfishCorn creme bruleeI would definately go back for the dolsot al bap and spicy monk fish dishes. The dolsot comes w a beautiful uni creme combined with the crispy bits of rice and textural experience of the fish roe was amazing. The Spicy monk fish had ~4 to 5 small pieces coated with smokey/spicy sauce and some veggies mixed w rice was a great combo.I personally judge a place on how crispy the seafood pancakes are and this was CRISPY. Definately would get again, it was also full of big chunks of seafood which is always a plus. The duck bulgogi was the least memoriable. It had the texture of duck but mainly just tastes like regular bulgogi.Corn creme brulee was sweet but overly sweet with a minimal corn flavor and some corn bits at the bottom.Service:9/10The waitress helping us get seatted for our rsvp were accomodating with grtting a seat closer to the wall vs the aisle. Our waiter was informative and had great sense when asking if we wanted to take any pictures/videos before mixing the Al bap for us.Also advising both of us to get two dishes before we ordered was helpful. Before peak hours, the atmosphere was pleasant. But, the tables are very close together and when its packed during peak hours it can be challenging speaking to one another due to the level of noise/conversation.“

“KJUN, as the clever wordplay might suggest, fuses Korean and Cajun flavors in its cooking. And as someone who loves fried food, heat and complex spice profiles, I loved so much of what this restaurant had to offer. For me, the best dish on the menu is the jambalaya. It is jam-packed with flavor from everything that goes into it, a party in your mouth - from the gochujang, pickles, cayenne, paprika, the mix of meats, etc etc. Just wow.1. “Tonight I ate at Mari in NYC. It was exQUISITE.Now, everybody with a mouth knows that Asian cuisine in general is typically based on a careful balance of complimentary yet competing flavor components. Salt. Sweet. Sour. Umami. Astringence. Fermentation. All sorts of things that Western culture never thought to combine until the world started to get smaller and smaller. And that combination of flavors makes a lovely "photograph" in your mouth. What isn't quite as widely discussed is that in addition to that static dimension of flavor combinations is the dance of flavors over time. The added dimension. Some Asian food doesn't give you a photograph, it plays you a movie. From the moment you put a bite into your mouth, a whole show begins to unfold and if you're anything like me you close your eyes and ride the wave ignoring all outside distractions. That isn't unique to Asian cuisine, but I would argue it is Asian cuisine that takes it to the highest level.Dinner tonight was like that.I love my friends. I love sharing a meal with them. But I was glad I was alone tonight. I didn't want to talk about it. I didn't want to hear anyone else talk about it. I didn't want to distract from the experience for even a moment. I just wanted to be in the moment. I didn't take pictures. I didn't take notes. I don't remember squat from what they told me as the tasting menu progressed. I just remember each bite.So if you're in NYC and you're in the mood to blow a stash of cash on a night to be remembered, you heard it here first: Mari NYCMy parting comment to the chef that prepared my food was "You guys are gonna OWN this city." And they will.Sit at the counter. Trust me.“

“I would give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the fact that the vibe = blaring pop music. The food and plating is out of this world, but we could barely hear the server explain our dishes to us. If this is an elevated dining experience, then why am I listening to Justin Bieber and The Weeknd? I don't need to hear an autotuned artist sing about how they feel most authentic when they're high while paying that kind of bill. When your customers are adults, maybe treat them that way?“

“Finally came after being told so many good things about this place. I have to say the March tasting menu is very nicely curated. I liked everything, and my mom enjoyed all the courses as well. The signature caviar kim exceeded my expectations; the seaweed was extremely crispy that it breaks as soon as you bite on it, making it easy to eat. We added abalone to the porridge, which was the right thing to do. The porridge itself is a bit on the salty side but not bad. Love the super crispy skin of the black cod, and the leek sauce on top of it. The dry aged and fire roasted duck dish also tasted really good. The playful plate of tiny bites that go with the duck dish complement the meat well. Two dessert dishes also pretty good. The pear sorbet was super creamy and fresh, it’s like you are biting into pear shaved ice. Then the donut with the brown sugar almond ice cream perfectly concluded the experience. I do want to caveat that maybe some ppl had an underwhelming experience because of different menus, but as far as the March menu goes, I would definitely recommend.“

“The experience was good overall. The staff was very attentive but not disruptive of our conversations. Our seats weren’t the best because I was sat at the very end of a long row of tables and kept making awkward eye contact with the person on the other end. The food was creative, I especially enjoyed the bossam. The duck sauce was superb and the goguma bingsu was the perfect finish to my night. I thought the cheese donuts with the combination of sweet and savory were superb but my friend didn’t like it so much. The uni also could have been more fresh especially with the 45$ extra MP charge. The recommended cocktails were generally good apart from the last one which was too bitter for me personally. Around 250pp after surcharge and cocktails. Would recommended this place for people first time trying Korean omakase. It does get busy even on a rainy weekday so make reservations in advance.“

“I had the 15-course Chef tasting menu for $135. Although it may seem a bit steep for a food court, this is a high end food court (spacious and spotless, surrounded by luxurious hotels and exclusive galleries), and they're serving premium ingredients. Just four of these courses on their own (Madai with Beet and Mandarin; Hiramasa with Golden Osetra; Lobster with Kombu; Eel with Foie Gras) if put on a bigger plate and served on white table clothes could make up a prix fixe worth $135, but because this is a casual food court, you get a lot of "bang for your buck." The only thing that prevented me from being completely comfortable here was the very loud music overhead, very hectic, very frenzied, WOOF.“

“I had my parents' 50th Anniversary Dinner at Gaonnuri in Feb 2024.1. Staff - They were pleasantly nice and helpful. They were always on top of everything. My glass was never empty and the used plates were constantly replaced with the new ones. They were also very knowledgeable with what they are serving. The wine sommelier recommended the perfect wines for all of us. I loved all his suggestions. They also provided the "personalized" menu for our group with my parents' names on it.2. Food - Food was good as always. Food was not too salty or spicy. My elderly parents enjoyed the food so much! Even my kids (age 8, 14, 17) loved all of them. Their favorite was Japchae and beef tartare in addition to Galbi!!3. Atmosphere - Beautiful view of NYC. We rented a lounge to celebrate my parents' golden wedding. The table set up was beautiful. Everyone was able to enjoy the view while eating dinner.I strongly suggest this place for special events whether it is for adults or kids!“

The creamy sauce is very rich and you won’t get tired of it even if you eat the whole plate. We have tried all three kinds of rice balls, and our favorite is the tuna fish rice ball. The 5 big pieces are full of sincerity and are so satisfying when paired with refreshing kimchi; the honey fried chicken has a sweet coating, and the mustard sauce it comes with is even more remarkable, retaining the mustard flavor without being spicy; the yogurt-flavored Rice wine has more flavor than banana flavor! It’s especially cool; the pork neck meat will be a little fatty; the corn tortillas have caramel adhering to the corn kernels, which are sweet and crispy, especially delicious! !“

“My favorite Korean place in Manhattan now. I've heard about it a lot and always wanted to try but didn't have the patience to wait. We finally went on a Sunday for lunch and the wait was forty-five minutes but worth it. It was already a full room the moment they opened at noon. It is a walk-in-only place so you join the waitlist at the host and will receive a text when a table is ready. We wandered off to get boba at Heytea but cho dang gol did not allow outside drinks when we returned. We ordered Mini bossam, oyster tofu stew, fish pancake, baby octopus and beef bulgogi, a side of their rice in a big pot. They also offered many free small dishes including kimchi and tofu. All of these were super good but my favorites are the mini bossam and beef bulgogi. The combination of garlic, kimchi, and pork belly is just sooo good. And the rice cakes in the beef bulgogi were also so good. I also loved the rice pot because it was like sticky rice and had rice crust. The price is also very reasonable for Manhattan. You can eat a huge meal for under 50 per person including tips and taxes. I would go back if I have enough free time to wait in line. Super cozy place giving reply 1988 vibes“

“This is my second time coming here. The first time was phenomenal. Thjs time I noticed things that maybe I didn't notice last time. It's been since before COVID that I was last here. For one thing, why is a bottle of sparkling and still water $12 each. We ordered 4. Why is a bowl of rice $4 each. We ordered 8. That's nickel and diming at its finest. We spent almost $100 on just rice and water!! We spent over $1000 on dinner and we can't get a bowl of rice without a charge? To be fair we didn't ask if it was included and they didn't tell us either that there was a fee. Also, the service felt purposely slow in between the different servings of wagyu. Almost so they could keep us from eating too fast or ordering more at the end, I don't know. The server is the same server I had last time and he was very good. The restaurant is beautiful and the ambiance was lovely. The food was delicious. I'm taking a star off because the nickel and diming is ridiculous.“

Service is immaculate and beautiful space as well.Every course was an art piece - very well-curated and well thought-out menu. I loved how descriptive each dish was and the creative use of traditional ingredients that not a lot of people know of.Highly recommend getting the wine pairing too. “This restaurant specializes in Korean fine dining, taking traditional Korean cuisine to a higher level of refinement in terms of size, flavor, and presentation. Additionally, they incorporate elements from northeastern Chinese, Japanese, and other cuisines from around the world, giving it a touch of Asian fusion. In terms of the dining experience, this establishment does a decent job of interpreting the concept of Korean fine dining, but personally, it may not stand out as the finest representation of Korean fine dining. Other Michelin 1-2 star restaurants and even some non-Michelin-rated establishments may excel more in terms of food quality.Furthermore, being located in the Korean town area, amidst numerous upscale and casual Korean eateries, its lack of unique flavor and relatively small portions might lead some diners to prefer nearby alternatives. However, the restaurant's service and ambiance are top-notch for the Korean town area. Situated in a classical-style room with warm lighting, and with attentive and friendly staff, it enhances the dining experience, making it suitable for formal gatherings such as business dinners, formal meetings, and dates. In conclusion, this restaurant is a decent choice for Korean fine dining, particularly suitable for formal occasions, but if you're solely seeking the best Korean food or the most representative Korean fine dining experience, there may be better options available in New York.“

“I had no idea what to expect when my wife booked a meal for us here, but I was pleasantly surprised at every turn. I guess I shouldn't be, because a handful of the most exciting Michelin starred restaurants in New York right now are Korean joints and I've never had a bad experience at any of them... but this one really stood apart and I think it might just be my new favourite. There's a great speakeasy feel to the place when you first enter, it's a completely different restaurant hidden behind a restaurant and crossing that threshold feels a bit like discovering a secret. The food and drinks were the real revelation though. We decided to get the non-alcoholic drinks pairing and it was fantastic. This isn't an area I'm used to fine dining restaurants putting any effort into. Most places will do a wine paring, barely anywhere seems to care about offering a valid alternative for those who either don't drink, or just aren't feeling it. From start to finish, they put a lot of thought into which beverages to pair with which courses and everything worked. More importantly, these were tea-based drinks that were delicious without being too sweet or cloying. It was infinitely better than my usual practice of getting one or two mocktails before feeling sugared-out. And as for the food, well... lemme tell you what they did wrong here. 1: The salmon row they used was a little firmer than I'm used to. Made it a little hard to chew it. 2: The chopsticks were metal and quite a bit heavier than the kinds I'm used to, which made using them a little clunkier in my stupid hands than I expected. Those are literally the only two things I could find to complain about, because I love this place and I loved literally all of the food there. There are creative flavour combinations I've never tried before, things I never would have guessed would go together, but very much did. There were exciting cuts of beef, we tried a Wagyu supplement here that was unlike any A5 Wagyu we've ever had. One piece of steak arrived with a Sweet Potato that may have been the platonic ideal of what a sweet potato should be. They serve impeccable seafood, including a crab and egg dish with meat from a crab so fresh that we met it earlier when it was still alive. The dessert course was a fantastic note to end on and as part of our drinks pairing, it came with a plum blossom tea that I couldn't get enough of. Over all, it felt as though there was skill and imagination on display in every course, beautiful presentation, friendly and informative staff, a fantastic blend of new ideas and what I'm told were Korean comfort foods, and just some incredibly heavy chopsticks... but I won't hold that against them. I briefly mentioned the staff above, but I want to reiterate that the quality of service at this place should not be taken for granted. This is a very welcoming environment where each employee seems to go out of their way to provide you with an unforgettable dining experience. I look forward to returning some day.“

The staff was really nice and remembered me from our brief phone call.We came by to get some wings on Veteran's Day for the 25% off deal. We got 2 flavors we had not tried yet - gangnam style and galbi, both were really flavorful and different than the standard soy garlic and spicy flavors. The galbi has a smokey taste and gangnam is sweet and spicy. I also love their sweet radish as a palate cleanser. Very good Korean fried chicken!“
