“The Carriage House Restaurant is literally steps from the PaperMill Playhouse. Great to stop in prior to a performance. The atmosphere is best described as "cozy and rustic". I've stopped in about 2-3 times for drinks and appetizers. The food has always been very tasty. Little on the pricey side. On a positive note, you're only a few steps away from the theater. As of now, I've had Chicken Sausage Appetizers and a Steak Quesadilla. Nice wine and cocktail list. We've enjoyed their wine and cocktails on a previous visit. In December '23, I had an issue making reservations. Left two telephone messages and never received a call back. I couldn't even make a reservation on Opentable or Resy. We stopped in and informed the hostess of the issue. Anyway, we ended up eating at the bar. The Carriage House Restaurant does offer Cabaret and Murder Mystery shows.“
“Had the #57 Philly cheesesteak with fries. It was oh so good. The beef was tender. The pepper and onions were cooked right and the cheese was melted. It was not cheese whiz either. It was fresh but American cheese. The ambiance is a cross between a diner and a delicatessen and always clean. I also ordered their homemade cheesecake. It is to die for. It’s so creamy. Definitely this a a stop over when in Millburn or in the area. I’m a regular here. The owners and staff are always so friendly.“

Definitely recommend reservations as it got major crowded in the tables and around the bar. Their cocktail list is impressive and was not disappointing in execution. We had the stuffed mushrooms to start and it was juicy though underseasoned. Their steaks were exactly what you want and I recommend the au poivre sauce as a tangy condiment. That was memorable for sure. The place overall just seems dark and outdated in furnishings, especially in the bathrooms. Their food hits the mark and service makes it worth returning.“

We all know airport food isn't great so being that I got a great meal, I had to give them props. I got the brussel sprouts salad and added chicken. The grilled chicken was well seasoned/charred. Salad was low on brussel sprouts but the mixed greens made up for it. Almonds, pomegranate seeds, and craisins were a nice mix. Overall I'm just happy I got a fresh and good tasting salad in good portion size. Still overpriced but what can you do? It's at the airport.“

“Definitely a five star experience!!! We arrived just before happy hour ended (4-5:30) and they were kind enough to place a quick order of oysters!!! They were super fresh and delicious... favs were west coast (sorry NJ). Next, came the Parker rolls!!! Probably my favorite part of the meal, but then again, who doesn't like homemade, freshly baked rolls with buttered top and a touch of salt!!! Because everything looked so good, we opted for a bunch of other appys to start! The New Zealand angus beef bites were served with horseradish aioli and a Parker roll, the halloumi cheese was accompanied by orange slices, prosciutto, radicchio and dehydrated olives. The octopus was spectacular... crispy with romanesco sauce, fried chickpeas, cilantro and paprika breadcrumbs. Of course, we had to also try the OHS mussel pot... with chorizo, saffron, garlic cream, sun dried tomatoes... and an herbed garlic roll on top!!! LOVED THEM ALL! It's not often that so many different, but complimentary flavors are presented in each dish!!! We could have stopped our meals there and would have been pleasantly satisfied and full! Next, we chose a couple of the sirloin sandwiches with fries, and the squid ink pasta with Calabrian chili and Meyer lemon breadcrumbs!!! All was very good. The evening was finished with 3 of their delicious desserts... the lemon meringue tart was the perfect sweet with a pucker. The molten dark chocolate cake was decadent. And the trio of gelatos were each so uniquely flavorful and delicious! Wow!!! Given that 100 steps is a BYOB, it makes everything even more affordable! Inside is newly built with plenty of seats and a bar area. The menu is all online as is the ordering. I ordered the Vermont rooster sandwich which comes with fries .. it's a deep fried boneless chicken thigh on a brioche bun with lettuce tomato and pickles with bacon cooked perfectly. My buddy had the cheese steak which he said was really good and he's a bit picky. Tons of cheese and a horseradish aoli spread. They have salads and pizza as well. Don the owner cooks everything from scratch and it really shows once you dig in! Nicely plated and priced right. They also serve dinner after 4 pm.
