“A hidden gem in Queens. Word of mouth is really how one finds out about this great establishment for smoked salmon. Competes equally with the bigger well known one in Brooklyn. Carmen is great. Friendly, great service and cuts the salmon like a pro. The smoked salmon is full of flavor. Other highlights here are the sturgeon and baked salmon but the lox is the go to. Decent prices and will be back for all my lox cravings.“

He was incredibly knowledgeable of the wine list and knew all the details about the food we were served. The food runner ran thru each item on the food. Just incredible service. The server picked a fantastic wine I wouldn’t usually go for. The atmosphere was fire. Food 10/10. Recently moved to the area and we’ll be regulars now. Couldn’t rate this place higher. For three people, we shared some appetizers —— the seeded bread (7/10), scallops 7.5/10, duck bun (6/10), bucatini (7.5/10).The entrees were much better than the appetizers. “Food was supreme here. I had the raw clams, fresh and presented well. Cocktail sauce was done with care. My main was spaghetti and clams in tomato sauce with arugula salad and a touch of spring onions, that was a very fine detail. The effort was notable in the food. Service could be more disciplined though, some staff prioritise chatting with each other over customer service. The dining room was tastefully decorated. Would love to come back but I live too far.“

Not this time at Piccola Cucina Estiatorio, 71 Thompson Street NYC. After seeing their extremely authentic Sicilian menu online I knew that it had to be the real thing. After easily reserving a table online we showed up with yes our hopes being very high. For the first time the food was everything I had hoped for. 1. Arancini: nicely crunchy and flavored. Not oily or old at all. 2. Grilled veggies: although simply presented they were really tasty and fresh. 3. Involtini: out of this world. Exactly made like in my town in Sicily. A Moist, tender, flavored with some really tasty mozzarella cheese, served on a nice bed of caponata. 4. Maccheroni alla Norma: finally my very favorite dish. I almost cried. Besides a fantastic pasta, rigorously cooked al dente, there was a more than generous amount of diced eggplant, obviously, with basil leaves, olive oil and everything the Mediterranean has so generously given to Sicily for thousands of years. It’s worth mentioning the more than welcome grated “ricotta salata” as a testimony to the high attention to detail of Chef Gioele. That was a dinner I will not easily forget. The last thing I want to say is that, according to the highly professional and attentive staff, almost every single ingredient in this restaurant is flown directly from Sicily including the very tasty cannoli filled with ricotta cheese. “We went for Thanksgiving, not expecting much. Understanding they would be busy at 7pm, we decided to take our chances and walk in. Super friendly service. We got a welcome eggnog, brilliantly cooked 3 course price fix menu, great service. There were some hiccups (soup came out crazy fast, while the drinks took the normal time. A little odd) loved that they had a kobe steak as arn option, very moist turkey too. Pumpkin creme bruleee was tasty-not too "pumpkiny". They even have us a free champagne with dessert. No complaints on the food, the portion size or the customer service. Everyone is always nice. I've only met the male owner during my visits and he is the best! My favorite is salmon and here, it's melt in your mouth fresh and yummy. My favorite dish here is the Salmon Lover. It's salmon four ways plus a side of kani salad with some roe on top. Thick generous portions of sashimi, also has sushi, salmon avocado roll, and a grilled salmon collar (when available, otherwise you get 2 pieces of salmon belly). This place is so good, in one week, I went 3 times and still not tired of it. Not crazy about the chicken kaarage. The pieces are too small so when fried, it becomes dry and loses its juicy tenderness. Tried some skewers. A tad on the dry side. I'd stick with the sushi. Though the skewers were very popular with the kids at the table. Service. Attentive. Tea constantly being refilled. Decor. It's a small place. Lots of wood decor. The space is narrow with seating to the left and right. In front, a few private mini booth rooms covered with a curtain, line the side of the restaurant. These can seat up to 4 people. There is also a small party room downstairs. In the back, you can sit in front of the sushi chefs if you like, at a high counter.“
