“We received a gift card from a family member for $100 USD as a Christmas Present and were excited about enjoying a meal at this restaurant. The gift card was purchased directly from Joey's, not a 3rd party. We went and everything initially about the restaurant was very enjoyable. The food was very good, the service was attentive and we enjoyed our experience until the cheque arrived. When we we presented the gift card (electronically) our server went to speak with a ⁶manager and then returned to inform us that the $100 USD would be honoured in Canadian dollars. $100 USD is worth $144.50 Canadian dollars according to google when checked today. We paid the bill and tipped the service team 22% and left after effectively having $44.50 taken from us and our family member in what felt like to us, theft by conversion. The manager in question did not come to follow up after our expressing our disappointment JOEY's is already a very expensive restaurant. Further, the gift card information indicates that Joey's has US based restaurants. I'm quite sure that Canadian dollar gift cards are not accepted at par in the US. This ruined for us, what was otherwise a positive experience, through what felt like to us, an act of corporate greed and impersonal profiteering. After this experience we will not be back and sadly, I cannot recommend JOEY's as a place for anyone else to dine at. Any company that sells a gift card directly and then fails to deliver full value is patently dishonest, in my opinion.”

The service was excellent: warm, attentive, and knowledgeable about both the food and the impressive drink list. The only downside was that it was a little noisy, especially as the evening went on—something to keep in mind if you're hoping for quiet conversation. Still, the lively atmosphere added to the charm, and we'd absolutely return for another night of bold, delicious food in a stylish, bustling spot.”

The food was super fresh and the burgers were juicy. Definitely recommend sitting in and having your drink in a CHILLED MUG, a first for me in fast food.

They have a nice beverage and condiment area which has a handwashing sink and direct access to the dishwasher to give your dishes back.

Overall a nice experience. For some reason the floors are super slippery when wet, so maybe more rugs near the door and ordering area would help.

Dietary restrictions: They offer free lettuce wraps on their sandwiches. Great for people with gluten intolerances or are on a low carb diet!”

The chicken samosas were the best I have had anywhere in Ottawa, in short - awesome. The mango-ginger sauce for the samosas was also exceptional. My entrèe was the Tibetan Fried noodles with tofu. The portion was generous and carefully prepared. The spices were delightful, the vegetables were fresh, plentiful and throughout the meal rather than just placed on top. Every bite was delicious. Thank you Sula Wok for the best take-out meal I have enjoyed in years! I highly recommend this restaurant. It definitely deserves a five star rating.”

“I have been dreading this review for a while now, but things are not improving! Tonight, February 15th, they had a fixed 4 course dinner for $100. I called in advance because I was dining alone at the bar and inquired if I needed reservations. No mention of the $100 menu. Sat at the bar, was ignored by all the staff. First course didn't show up. Second course showed up and I asked where the first one was. They brought it after. The third course, the short rubs, was cold, as was my food the last 3 times we went there. i returned it and version 2 was better. Dessert was a very uneventful creme brulée. This is my third ( possibly 4th time) discretely providing feedback. Getting a comped dessert or small glass of wine. I was really rooting for this restaurant, but it is mismanaged and really needs to get their act. Cocotte no more!”

“I have celiac so this is a chain I can have roast chicken and sauce. Roasted chicken without sauce is just not the same. That said it makes for a very empty plate and unfortunately the restaurant is not vey generous with the fries even though they don’t need to provide a bun. As a result, I’m still a little hungry when I leave (not the first time this has happened). A half chicken would be too much food so I wish they would at least provide more in terms of qty for the side dish, in this case fries, with the quarter chicken.

Atmosphere was fine but a portion of the restaurant needs some TLC.
