“We received a gift card from a family member for $100 USD as a Christmas Present and were excited about enjoying a meal at this restaurant. The gift card was purchased directly from Joey's, not a 3rd party. We went and everything initially about the restaurant was very enjoyable. The food was very good, the service was attentive and we enjoyed our experience until the cheque arrived. When we we presented the gift card (electronically) our server went to speak with a ⁶manager and then returned to inform us that the $100 USD would be honoured in Canadian dollars. $100 USD is worth $144.50 Canadian dollars according to google when checked today. We paid the bill and tipped the service team 22% and left after effectively having $44.50 taken from us and our family member in what felt like to us, theft by conversion. The manager in question did not come to follow up after our expressing our disappointment JOEY's is already a very expensive restaurant. Further, the gift card information indicates that Joey's has US based restaurants. I'm quite sure that Canadian dollar gift cards are not accepted at par in the US. This ruined for us, what was otherwise a positive experience, through what felt like to us, an act of corporate greed and impersonal profiteering. After this experience we will not be back and sadly, I cannot recommend JOEY's as a place for anyone else to dine at. Any company that sells a gift card directly and then fails to deliver full value is patently dishonest, in my opinion.”

“I recommend Kettlemans as the food is good and they have good variety. That said. The service is sub-par. My wife and I stop here regularly on Sunday Mornings about 7 am 2 or 3 times a month. Consistently nobody greets us even though there are many workers who make eye contact and just keep doing whatever they're doing. More often than not we have to call out to get attention after waiting several minutes at the front counter. Management doesn't seem to value customer service and simply expects people to keep coming back as if Kettlemans' history entitles them to customers. That is a surprising attitude in an otherwise excellent store.”

“My family enjoyed a take-out meal last night from Sula Wok. I would describe it as incredibly tasty, evocative flavours, large portion sizes and generally a fantastic gastronomical delight! The chicken samosas were the best I have had anywhere in Ottawa, in short - awesome. The mango-ginger sauce for the samosas was also exceptional. My entrèe was the Tibetan Fried noodles with tofu. The portion was generous and carefully prepared. The spices were delightful, the vegetables were fresh, plentiful and throughout the meal rather than just placed on top. Every bite was delicious. Thank you Sula Wok for the best take-out meal I have enjoyed in years! I highly recommend this restaurant. It definitely deserves a five star rating.”

My go-to is their Wonton soup! It's so yummy and filling! I live in the east end but my offices are only a 10-minute walk from their location, so i was worried that the pandemic might force them to close but luckily, they are still the best hidden gem on Bank Street! Depending on my work schedule I go there once or twice a week because I crave their comfort food! I LOVE Golden Baguette!!”

“I have been dreading this review for a while now, but things are not improving! Tonight, February 15th, they had a fixed 4 course dinner for $100. I called in advance because I was dining alone at the bar and inquired if I needed reservations. No mention of the $100 menu. Sat at the bar, was ignored by all the staff. First course didn't show up. Second course showed up and I asked where the first one was. They brought it after. The third course, the short rubs, was cold, as was my food the last 3 times we went there. i returned it and version 2 was better. Dessert was a very uneventful creme brulée. This is my third ( possibly 4th time) discretely providing feedback. Getting a comped dessert or small glass of wine. I was really rooting for this restaurant, but it is mismanaged and really needs to get their act. Cocotte no more!”

Each item is individually priced, the thought behind it being they are a share item, family table/style, just like at home. I will say the size of the share portions were more for an individual verses sharing with the table. Glad each of us ordered our own main, we shared potatoes, carrots and mushrooms. We were celebrating a birthday and we told our server. It's nice when a restaurant does that little something for the birthday person gratis...sadly this didn't happen here. There were 4 of us, we shared 2 appetizers and each had a main. We also had a half litre of wine, no dessert or coffee. Bill was $300+. Enjoyed the experience but will most likely not go again.”

My favorite was the selroti achar and chowmein with their chutney. It gave me a typical Nepali taste and it felt so good. The service was lovely. “My first time to Barrio with my daughter and two friends was a very fun time. We enjoyed the flavourful drinks and the shared appetizers- a salad and carpaccio ( thinly sliced vegetable dish). We each chose a main which we also shared. The salmon, chicken and braised beef were all delicious.
We talked ourselves into sharing the chocolate dessert and the three milk cake. A good decision.
Our waitress was friendly and accommodating. At the end I ordered a take out sandwich which she carefully packed each food item separately so nothing got soggy.
The Latino decor was refreshing and inviting. I hope to return soon.”
