“We just found this place when we noticed it on the sign when we drove by and we’re so glad we did! This place is tucked back away from parking lot, so IYKYK. It was delicious! We normally don’t like handrolls and really loved the Bluefin Tuna one especially! We sat at the bar and made friends with our sushi chef (maybe he wouldn’t go as far as to say that 😆). He was very friendly! We will definitely be back!“

“Dinner tonight at Domodomo was so good! Everyone from the hostess to our server Eric made sure we were welcomed and well taken care of. After receiving our tasty cocktail and mocktail, we had the tasting menu as well as the yukgaejang cold noodles. Each dish was very thoughtfully considered and balanced. Our favorites were the Wagyu carpaccio and Hwe Dupbap. Worth the price, and we’ll definitely be back!“

“Moriya’s homemade curry is soooooo good. It absolutely hits the spot for me every time… rich, comforting, and packed with deep umami flavor. And their frothy tonkotsu broth is so unique too… creamy, flavorful, and just delicious. Beware that seating is limited and service can be slow at peak hours.“

“I am so glad we tried this place. The sushi was so fresh. I am not exaggerating when I say the Mango Salmon Roll melted in your mouth. Truly delicious. We also tried the Cajun Shrimp Roll, Sunshine Roll and Shrimp Tempura Roll. They were all really good. The Wanton Soup was so savory and flavorful. The service was great. The ambiance was perfect- smaller place with a lively atmosphere. I would give more stars if I could.“

“We had an amazing experience at Yujo. Tony went out of his way to make my birthday special from complimentary appetizers to desserts. The fish was so fresh and sushi rice was on point and better than any Japanese restaurant I’ve frequented in Dallas. They spent 4 hours just making their sushi rice. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!“

“I had the omakase. and was disappointed with the fact there was a heavily fried dish of shrimp and corn that came out mid point of the experience. The sashimi was pretty good but, not too much thought was put into it. Other than the two kind of misteps my overall experience was amazing! the staff was helpful and the flavors were fun! I highly recommend the sesame mousse for dessert and the sea bass melted in your mouth and the soba noodles with the various dipping sauces were to die for ♡“

“I’ve lived in Texas for over eleven years and watched the dining scene change considerably. Through all of that, I keep coming back to Chef Otaka-san. There’s a reason.
These days, many new restaurants seem more focused on rankings, expansion, and hype than on staying true to their principles. I respect Chef Otaka-san for doing the opposite, staying focused on what omakase is supposed to be and what he genuinely cares about. Japanese people aren’t eating sushi three times a day; they enjoy yakitori just as much. That, too, is their culture, and Chef Otaka-san’s inspiration comes from that authenticity, not from California rolls designed to please the masses. For diners who care about the essence of a true omakase experience, mabo is a place you should not skip.
This is not a restaurant chasing influencer hype or free publicity. It’s for guests who genuinely value the experience who are willing to pay for his talent and creativity so he can transport you, for a couple of hours, to another part of the world without leaving Dallas.
Back in my earlier days here, there were more places that felt this sincere and grounded. As things grow more superficial, I almost feel sad that restaurants like this are becoming rarer. That’s part of why I felt compelled to write this review: sometimes the quiet achievers deserve to have their value recognized.
I’ll admit I hesitate to share my hidden gem. I don’t enjoy competing for reservations, and a selfish part of me wants to keep this spot easy to book, especially compared to some overvalued places out there. But when I think about how long Chef Otaka-san has been in Texas, nearly four decades, he deserves far more recognition than he’s received. He has been an ambassador of sorts, giving those of us in Dallas the opportunity to experience this level of omakase for years.
Today was my fiancé’s birthday, and I brought him here because I wanted him to experience what I think of as the “Teppo feeling” I had when I first moved to Texas. For me, it was more than just dinner; it was reconnecting with a memory and a standard of sincerity that has become rare.
I hope more people come to understand the depth of what Chef Otaka-san has given to this community and that he, in turn, recognizes his own value rather than feeling discouraged by the rankings and metrics that third-party reviewers throw around. He may not be the most talkative showman (which I appreciate, sometimes I don’t want conversation), but if you ask him a question and approach him as a genuine human being, I think you’ll understand what I mean. I hope this helps someone else experience what my fiancé and I had today.“

“We are not from the area (Brock, TX) & went before attending the Addison Improv. So glad we did! Excellent service & amazing/fresh sushi. We definitely plan to find a reason to make the drive to dine there again!!“

“First time here. Ordered takeout due to pandemic. Came on a Friday evening around 7:30pm. Ordered 4 rolls: rainbow roll, dragon roll, Greenville roll, & spicy tuna kiss roll. Presentation is nice. Fish quality is smooth, creamy, and does not have a frozen multiple times texture. Flavor is nice. Roll pieces are actually bite sized and -just- fit in your mouth. (I have a small mouth, so they may fit better in an average person’s mouth). Kind of disappointed with the minuscule amount of wasabi & ginger that came with each dish, but wasabi taste fresh & has adequate spice. Pickled ginger is quite sweet. Overall, everything was good. I’d recommend & I’d come back.“

“We try to come here a couple times every month, the owners are so friendly and the sushi is always fresh. They always have gentle and upbeat music playing, and the sushi bar is very cool and creates a nice ambiance. We always grab 4-5 rolls, a spicy edamame, and a couple orders of sake. Have been probably 20 times now, and the experience is always a 10/10.“

“We came when it was pretty busy and all the employees were working really hard. Nice little establishment order and pay right at the front (which i like) and sit anywhere. Food was a little slow to come out (maybe because they have a drive thru) but it was worth the wait! Will come here again!“

“I really wanted to like this place. We got an appetizer, drinks, and 3 rolls. The Crab Dynamite and the mt axiom rolls were really good but we also got the crunchy salmon and it was burnt. We asked to have it taken off the bill and was told no but we could have a to go box and 20% off the one role. Definitely won't be returning.“

“Such a gem to find! My mom and I were looking for a casual sushi spot and we loved this place. It was just one man working the counter and making the food. He was very pleasant and was handling the incoming customers by himself well. His rolls were great and so reasonably priced! We would love to come back!“

“Delicious “fireside cooking” or Robatayaki in which items of food on skewers are slow-grilled over hot charcoal. Liver, hart, tongue etc. the fresh items, Sashimi and Sushi are excellent as well. Wonderful services from owner and her staff. Sushi chef’s are excellent prepared sushi at the bar. Love cozy atmosphere as well.“

“Pearl sushi is a must for all the Dallas sushi lovers. The first visit was great, but coming back and getting the same level of quality says a lot. The fish was fresh, the rice was perfectly textured, and every roll tasted intentional nothing overloaded, nothing sloppy. Just clean, well balanced sushi.“

“I had the spicy salmon roll, spicy edamame, some house sake in a cool bottle and then finished off with the banana tempura ice cream. Everything was so good! The service was great too. It was raining very bad, and one of the gentleman helped us get back to our cars with his umbrella. He came in clutch!“
