“Great service from Millay. She was very attentive and very knowledgeable about what was on the menu. Her smile and personality made the experience even better. It was a good night and great Ambience and music. Would recommend here for a date night or just a solo meal and drink. I ordered the lamb chops that well cooked well and they had a good flavor. Loaded potatoes were good but my preference is less cheese. If you're a cheese lover it's perfect.”

“Happened to be staying at the Marriott Marquis and decided to eat here since it was adjacent to the hotel. It was a great decision. It is always a plus when patio seating is available. The drinks were amazing and the food was on point. Xochi is an authentic Mexican gem! The vibe, food, and drinks are amazing. The ambiance is vibrant, the dishes are bursting with flavor, and the handcrafted cocktails are a must-try. I highly recommend this restaurant while visiting Houston and, of course, even for locals, for an unforgettable Mexican dining.”

Katami

Katami 2701 W Dallas St, Houston Japanese • $$$$

“When we arrived we were promptly greeted and seated. It did take our server to get to us a good 10 minutes before talking and telling us what the concept and food recommendations were. The setting of the restaurant is clean, and airy due to the sun room setting on one side of the restaurant. To start us off, we did some drinks that were good but did not find any favourites. The two cold starters were: Hamachi Yuzu: 2/5 because the yuzu yoghurt was overpowering and the kombu powder left a sandy grit texture on the teeth that made it almost annoying to eat. Could barely taste the hamachi. Madai Carpaccio: 1/5 because the crunchy togarashi and black sesame soy sauce enveloped the Madai and the saucy component was too strong to complement the fish. Oyster with caviar was fresh and briny. Very tasty. 5/5. Would recommend avoiding the cold starters besides the oysters and moving straight to the nigiri and hot components of the menu. From the nigiri portion, we ordered: Hotate, salmon, gizzard shad, akami, amaebi and madai. Fresh, fatty, flavoursome cuts of delicious fish. Definitely recommend, 5/5. Also, tried the Olive A5 wagyu nigiri with black truffle and it was unctuous and absolute yum! From their hot portion, we got the baby back ribs, iberico shumai, and lobster with sake miso. The baby back ribs were falling off the bone, tender and seasoned to perfection. The shumai was good with a pipette of ponzu sauce. The lobster was rich, not overcooked and the panko with the miso sake lent it a Mac and cheese-esque quality to it. Would definitely get these again. For dessert go the Japanese melon which was sweet and juicy and had none of the chemical aftertaste that is found in the fruits here in the states. The green tea kakigori was airy and light. Usually not a fan of red bean ice cream or desserts but this one came with a really nice red bean ice cream. Would have liked the portion to be more to balance out the shaved ice. Overall it was a great time! Price wise it was affordable for the amount of food we ordered.”

“Until I came here, I was reluctant to eat sushi in America. Most of the restaurants are run by people who have never been to Japan, and when we say sushi, it's rolls or sticky rice sushi, but this restaurant was different.I was able to speak with the owner, who said he had actually been to Japan, and the sushi rice and toppings were so good that I couldn't believe that they were available in America. The most delicious dish was the haburi kama.It reminded me of my mother's grilled kama that I ate in Japan. The price is a bit high, but if you can get this quality in America, it's worth it.It was the best sushi I've had in America!”

Anvil 1424 Westheimer Rd STE B, Houston Cocktail Bar • $$

“Anvil is, without a doubt, my favorite cocktail bar. And that's not just within Houston. The consistent quality of their cocktails is simply unrivaled. They have a rotating selection of featured cocktails, but half the time I order from their list of 100 classics because they craft them to near-perfection (sometimes perfection, if I'm being honest). Yesterday, I tried a new one containing shōchū, reposado tequila, and black sesame... my adjectives wouldn't do justice to the simple elegance and brilliance of that cocktail. They don't offer happy hour nor outdoor seating. There are probably ~15-20 seats at the bar and then 8-12 booths along the windows, each of which fits 4-5 people. The bartenders are always amazing, their knowledge of the craft is impressive. At the end of the day, Anvil isn't trying to rope you in with trendy fads nor great deals. But I suspect you'll be back for a return visit, because they're serving the highest-quality cocktails in town”

Hidden Omakase 5353 W Alabama St #102, Houston Japanese • $$$$

“While I have brand loyalty to a certain hospitality group in Houston, and the market is saturated, I am pleased to have found another go-to spot for high-quality omakase. Hidden can be found through a non-descript door of the center that houses Burger Chan and Conservatory. Hidden is familial and customers are seated in a U-shape counter. The chefs and hosts are engaging and super friendly. Hidden is BYOB with a corking fee. We had an 18-course omakase. Dishes range from oyster, nigiri, crudo, handroll, cooked items, apps, and a dessert. It was difficult for me to decide what my favorites were... they were delicious in their own unique way. While one reviewer disapproved of the toppings such as truffle butter and chili garlic, I found them to be pleasing and didn't feel like the fish was overpowered by them. The fish were buttery, fresh and flavorful. Worth a visit.”

“I am speechless. The food was INCREDIBLE. I was floored at how delicious and tasty everything was.The Caesar salad was delicious-the dressing had a spice to it but balanced well with the slight sweetness from the croutons.I would eat this salad everyday. The chicken Vincent was also delicious. The flavors from the Balsamic and the sun-dried tomatoes--wow.The seafood lasagna is a MUST. That sauce is what dreams are made of. It was phenomenal! For dessert we had the puddin 4 layer and it was divine. So rich and creamy. We also ordered coffee which was legit... not some watered down coffee. Quality 10/10.The chef himself came out to introduce himself and check on our food. He also gave his recommendations based on what we liked. The ambience could be better--it's a small place and everyone's close to each other. However, the food is definitely the best Italian in Houston--the other instagrammable places don't even come close. I am so glad this place isn't all over social media yet. It's definitely a hidden gem and the quality is far superior to any other Italian restaurant in Houston. I cannot wait to come back!!”

But, a simple 8oz filet was $83 vs, a standard $50 at Flemmings or Ruth's Chris. Therefore I decided to share the 22 oz Waugh ribeye with my kids. It was the only economical choice. “We were lucky enough to get the last service by Chef Jonathan. We had his Kobe fair well tour! And he made our experience amazing! We had recently had their parent restaurant Hidden Omakase and we enjoyed it but was recommended to try this joint for a lower price point and shorter meal.So for dinner they do 45 mins and they start on time so make sure you come a little early and take some pictures in the nft gallery out front. If you park it’s to the left of the Italian restaurant and has no signage.Once seated they get started right on the dot. But even though it’s a short service Jonathan explained what we were getting in great detail. We got better interaction here with the crew than at Hidden Omakase. It’s a younger group and more fun and lively. The Engawa was the best thing I have ever eaten at any sushi restaurant. This thing is life changing. And you’re able to get an extra piece as an a la carte add on. Do it!!! You will not regret it.My wife and I were so impressed, we will definitely be back and at this price point we can come more often.Best of luck on your next Journey chef Jonathan your skills will truly be missed here.”

I usually stay away from any type of ethnic inspired dishes specially for breakfast because they tend to flip and I feel like I wasted money but the Inspired Italian was quite an interesting take. “Was in Houston for a few days and so glad I found this place! They curate their coffee beans from all over the world and have an extensive range of coffee/tea drinks to choose from. The espresso I had both days was extremely balanced and very smooth so I imagine their espresso based drinks are excellent. They had a very robust pour over selection as well I will certainly be trying next time. There was a wide range of pastry and food offerings that spanned a variety of options from sweet or savory toasts, to burritos and even an interesting Australian sausage roll. The menu had a ton of things I would have loved to try without being overly complex or excessive. I went for the avocado toast which was executed very well! Finally the atmosphere rounded out my fantastic experience. It felt contemporary and cozy without being stuffy a place Im sure many people hang out to work or chat. Huge windows let in plenty of light at all times of the day.No need to go anywhere else when you’re in Houston and in need a unique coffee experience or need a quick bit to eat!”

I usually stay away from any type of ethnic inspired dishes specially for breakfast because they tend to flip and I feel like I wasted money but the Inspired Italian was quite an interesting take. A blend of savory, salty, sweet and sour. It's weird to say it on an omelette but this one was quite refreshing. The morning meditation juice was also very nice. Laredo Taqueria 915 Snover St, Houston Mexican • $

“I have to say the tacos in the food were delicious everything. I don't think anyone will complain on something that's has flavor. I'm thinking if this place has a long line. It's popular because of the good tasting food. They should do something about speeding up the line. But I guess Management has not thought about that. Has your business growth and it has more in more people coming. You should make plans to make the kitchen area larger with the buffet section larger. So you can have 2 extra servers. I'm assuming they made it investment in the parking lot next door which is huge and full of cars. Trust me this place is making money. Not complaining about the price, but this is not a dollar tacos. Those days are over. This location, and one Laredo on Patton Street street are making money. It would help if it also had a larger restroom to accommodate more than one person. It's a business not a home. I hope management reads this. And will maybe answer the review”

We didn’t know they don’t allow outside food so asked them to store our cake and they labeled it and put it in the cooler. We enjoyed our time. Will come back to support this local business.”

“Have been coming here for over 20 years and have never been disappointed. I've had their fajita, pastor, and barbacoa. All meats are very flavorful and delicious. Their quesadillas always hit the spot. Since my family is bigger now, we tend to get the special plate. It consists of a plate of meat with melted cheese on top and a stick of tortillas. If you're not a cheese person, you can get the regular plate, which is the meat and tortillas.”

The location is very small but extremely inviting. The inside can sit maybe 10-15 people and there is some outdoor seating available. I could see this place getting packed pretty quickly. The staff is very friendly and the service is fast. While we already had breakfast prior to arriving we were pleasantly surprised they offered a breakfast menu. We both had the horchata latte and a concha. We really enjoyed the horchata latte was really good, super excited to try more drinks! This might be my new regular!”

My burger consisted of 3 two ounce patties with pepperjack cheese, a fried egg and charred jalapenos. This burger was tasty and juicy, had a hint of char on the edges...yum. As usual we sampled each others food. My wife got a five ounce burger patty with no bun with cheddar cheese, seared spam, sauteed onions and sliced avocado, very tasty. The chicken tenders were crispy but I was expecting just a little more flavor. The presentation of the food and restaurant is amazing! And a great sunflower concept. Staff was nice and knowledgeable.

Do it!!! “I was there last night Friday and the vibes were ??. Before we even sat down we knew we'd have a good time. Music was playing in outdoor patio with DJ and all. I ordered the Texas long island iced tea. That was a mistake bc it tasted watered down and like nothing. So I exchanged it for the Hennessy margarita and that did not disappoint! I had 3 of those and they had me right! Highly recommend. The food was good I got the quesabiiria tacos. 7 out of 10. Overall atmosphere and vibes were a 10! We will be back again and often!”

“Their street tacos are good! I know, I know, you do a double take to even stop like, "I don't know if I even want to stop here." But if you do, man, I'm telling you. It's super good. My wife loves the fish tacos. She does the grilled ones, but we've tried the fried ones too. The shrimp grilled and fried ones were also good as well. The Torta was delicious. Had all kinds of meats. Been there twice already, and there definitely will be a third visit down-the-line. Atmosphere could be better, but you do what you can with the streets as your dining hall. I almost forgot the churros. They're just right! Not like those hard rock ones you find at other places where I feel like I could knock someone out with it....”

“absolutely BANGER authentic chinese skewer + late night hang out spot. we got the cabbage, grilled lamb spare ribs, grilled sizzling squid, eggplant skewer, and oyster mushroom skewer. if you order no spicy its still extremely flavorful, but even the mild spicy (we got on the squid) wasn't overbearing. note that this place does have karaoke option so if you're sensitive to loud noises i wouldn't recommend. our waiter was the SWEETEST ever - gave us amazing recommendations and let us have a small sample of the pig ears since we were worried about the spice level. for less than $60, we (2 ppl) have enough leftovers to last 2 more meals (so in total 6 meals for $60). the white rice is $1 per bowl in case u wanted to order some.”
