“This place is awesome - delicious, reasonably-priced cocktails and excellent atmosphere. Staff was friendly and responsive, too. What more could you ask for? Oh... happy hour? They've got that dialed in as well. Check this place out if you haven't yet!“
“Been coming here for years and returned after a hiatus. The food is still delicious and so are the cocktails. The aesthetic and atmosphere is fun and alluring.Ordered the Li Hing Melon and Return to Guava Island as well as Salt & Pepper Chicken and Garlic noodles. The food is bomb!Service was great and I even noticed some familiar faces among the staff which is always refreshing. One of the best bars in Oakland and offers immaculate vibes.“
“Fave bar in Oakland. Adventurous, ever-evolving cocktail menu. Food is affordable and delicious (didn’t know tater tots could be deep fried with such precision, lol).NO tv screens! Ambiance is “cool, cozy, librarian” and vinyl selection is deeeep.“
“I had the best red lentils I've ever tasted here. The vegetable wot is especially good, well seasoned greens, cabbage, corn, etc. on injera. And the parking's good, especially for Berkeley. My companion and I each got parking spots right in front of the restaurant.“
“Sometimes you need a mid day cider, or beer, or wine... you know where I'm going with this. Came in on a Thursday afternoon for some me time, and was shocked at myself for never seeing this place. Redfield will now definitely be a staple. The shop itself is super cute with relaxing music - you know to make work just a bit more bearable. The selection of cider is amazing - and having that hot cider on a chilly day is a must do this fall! I recommend the Mission Trail Cherries - It's the perfect amount of sweet and boozy, and the color is beautiful! It was described to me as kind of like a port but in cider form and being aged in a barrel (I can't remember what kind of barrel) - so just the right thing for me. Over all 10/10! Great drinks, friendly staff, and you can even buy some bottles for to go! Do yourself a favor - get a drink this weekend and if you're cold - get a hot cider.“
“Third year in a row for Miracle on Telegraph. It's always a blast! The bartenders get into character and pours lots of delicious holidays drinks. This year my favorite was Rudolph's Replacement (it was like a coffee cocktail) hope they keep this tradition going for years to“
“Came midweek for lunch, was immediately acknowledged when I walked in and sat shortly after. My server Brian was very attentive and kept a great line of communication throughout my visit as I tried the onions rings, chicken wings, and Matty’s classic burger with the brisket Chili. To top off the feast, Brian recommended the strawberry chocolate milkshake for the road back home. Overall great experience and will definitely make the drive back to Oakland from San Jose to give the rest of the menu a taste!“
“My first Kava experience didn’t disappoint! Upon learning this was my first time trying Kava, the barista offered us a ceremony to try it first and explained the origin and types of Kava to me.Tried the Colada and warm special Kava. Def a fun experience that’s quintessential Berkeley / Oakland. Check them out if you are in the area.“
“black owned business I definitely will come back the esthetic were nice and like a classy dive bar I wasn't impressed with our drinks but I will be back and will order again.. the drinks weren't too strong but had a good flavor they also have cocktails ontap which I thought was lovely. good music nice vibes a lounge with more bar seats staff were nice and attentive . the bartender was working solo and did well at attending to everyone he could have used 2 more bands behind the bar“
“Best wings in the East Bay! Stopped in to visit my friend in Oakland and was pleasantly surprised. The Korean fried wings are hand breaded, tender, and nothing short of amazing. Looking for some heat though Catfish bites were absolutely perfect The cocktail list rivals any fancy rooftop in San Francisco Plenty of room to accommodate large groups. Conveniently located close to the convention center. Stop in to see Mikey or Paul during happy hour“
“What an awesome bar! Where else downtown can you stroll across a floor covered in soft sand, be greeted by friendly staff, and enjoy a refreshing cocktail that refreshes you like a tropical beach? Definitely check this place out, and be sure to try the Yay Breeze!“
“Okay, I've been back many times now. Something about this place makes me feel incredibly welcomed every time. The employees and the patrons are all just here to have a good time and make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. I mean I went in recently and they surprised a regular with a birthday cake! This spot has me locked in, it's got it's own little thriving community and I love it. I will keep coming back for the good times and especially the Underberg.“
“I always enjoy The Wolf. Great lunch today. I had the cod sandwich which was just as good as the last time I had it. My friend had the popover and soup. We sat on the patio and it was so relaxing. I didn't feel rushed at all, which I really appreciated after a crazy week.“
“The Barbary is one of the best cocktail bars in Oakland, bar none. The prices range from $13-$16 per cocktail. My partner said this place has the best Old Fashioned they've ever had. I'm a fan of the Spice Trader and the Black Tot Grog. Don't let the prices deter you; the quality makes it worthwhile. The pirate/nautical theme has good ambiance. It's not overbearing, but definitely not something you can overlook. I'd call it cute and whimsical, and I appreciate that the art on the walls was bought from small artists on Etsy. It vaguely reminds me of the vibe on Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Like, a little homemade and dated but done with love and extreme attention to detail. On weekends they have live music, often jazz, and it's been good stuff every time I came here. The staff is all great. Owners are often on-site. Jorge, the door guy, is friendly and helpful and welcoming. I highly recommend this as a place for a date night. It's classy, cool, and serves up good drinks. Really happy to have this place on Grand!“
“Always right on time and never a disappointment. Merchants is a total essence of dive bar and no comparison to others who claim to be100 years and counting- say what???? But welcoming to old and new, stop by Merchants if your in Jack London. Put money in the meter if you arrive 9-5ish. And remember where you are, have nothing visible in your car to avoid break ins.“
“Kona Club is the best! The decor is amazing and you feel really transported to another place once you walk in the door. The drinks are well priced and top notch (Chi Chi is a must for first timers). My favorites are the Painkiller and the Konarita. The bartenders are great - just beware forewarned that they are slammed on the weekends and it may take some time to get served.“
“I think the food here is fabulous! The pita, hummus, salads and halvah are shoulders above everyone else's. I haven't tried the sandwiches yet because the hummus bowl and pitas are so hard to resist. I've taken home the frozen pitas and containers of humus from the store, too. They are so delicious they make it very hard to want to waste the calories on the versions possibly more conveniently available everywhere else. I'm just sad they close so early, since I'd love to grab dinner here sometimes but eating before 5:30 usually doesn't work out for me.“
“Great staff, great drinks, great prices... We had a class reunion here and it was the BEST!!! Stephanie the owner is amazing and will work with you and your needs and makes sure she gives you EVERYTHING you need for your event!!! You won't be disappointed coming here for a happy hour with your crew or booking an event... Love those place!!!“
“Out of the 3 bars on Piedmont Ave, I enjoy the Lodge the most. Free Popcorn, outdoor covered patio, dog friendly, well priced drinks, slushy option, and the atmosphere rad Oaklanders and a cabin theme throughout.FEMALE OWNED!New food pop up is Pancho's cafe serving wings burgers tacos and a chicken sandos. Oh yeah and Friday Cupcakes by Irene to get the weekend started right!Vegetarian options: new pop up is committed to offering something for everyone.“
“Sounds like they have jazz and local acts for live music on a regular basis - we went on a Wednesday and Bob Scott Trio was playing. They were so much fun to listen to and watch! Nice guys too when we had a chance to chat in between sets.Chicken Sammie buffalo style was pretty good - large though, went home with leftovers! Super sturdy bread which was delicious.“
“Wow, this bar felt quite hidden away from the world behind gray doors despite being on a busy commercial stretch of Lakeshore. There was a cat sign, but Jamie W. and I kept missing it as we strolled back and forth just before it opened at 4PM. When we finally entered, it was a stylish space but overly so with vintage accents producing the requisite chill atmosphere. Let me be honest though. We came for the craft cocktails we saw on their website, and Keenan was the cool bartender who was there to make them for us. I tried the $14 Dear Irene, a blended Pina Colada riff with gin, coconut, ginger, mint, cane, and lime. A lovely libation. Jamie had the $14 Blue Meanie which had a more tantalizing tropical taste. It had a nice kick consisting of eight-year-old Haitian & Banana Rum, Giffard Coconut, lime, and blue curaçao (photo: So satisfying that we had another round. I went with the $14 E&E, a vibrant mix of tequila, mezcal, lime, cilantro, pineapple, and jalapeño over rocks. It was like a short margarita. Jamie tried the $14 Mata Hari, which sounds more mysterious than it was. It left out tequila and mixed mezcal, amaro nardini, lime, and tamarind syrup into a saucy, south-of-the-border libation (photo: While Dear Irene was the definitive standout, all the cocktails provided a nice symphony of compatible flavors. Otherwise I was just drunk. Either way, it made for a satisfying visit at this hidden hideaway close to Lake Merritt. COCKTAILS - 4 stars..,well tested libations with the Dear Irene a standout AMBIANCE - 4 stars...stylish, vintage space with a large enough bar at an inconspicuous address SERVICE - 4 stars...Keenan is a very helpful bartender TOTAL - 4 stars...a chill hangout on Lakeshore RELATED - Exploring Oakland? Here's a collection of places I've patronized and reviewed:“
“This is such a unique place, with a super fun & special ambiance. The beer/drink offerings do underwhelm a bit, but the environment and special events they run regularly are enough to make up for it.The bar staff have always been friendly and attentive in my visits here, so no complaints on the service.“
“I love this little bar, it's hidden on the side of some corporate building but has such cozy vibes. I wish I knew of it sooner. I got 2 cocktails although not gonna lie I can't remember the names but they were both super tasty. Everyone in my group loved their drinks. The bartender was so friendly too. We also got their empanadas and honestly kind of fire. It was the perfect after work drink type of bar.“
“Came to Temescal and met up with a couple of folks on my work project. We ordered some drinks and a platter of snacks. I loved the conserva and the vermouth spritz was fantastic! Would totally come here again if I'm in the neighborhood.“
“Lobster Ravioli is no joke !! So delectable !!!!! Had it two times this week ! Love this spot still haven’t had drinks from here ! But boy is the food good ! If u like ur sauce on the thicker side add extra parmigiana cheese but .. it’s really not needed!! Dip ??that ??bread ??in the sauce?❤️ Idk what’s better the sauce or ravioli but so good to the point my dad made me go get more ? But the crab cakes are great too ! As well as the crab sandwich I advise you to get it grilled chesse style tho and no avocado! ? I’ll be back !!! ?“
“Lovely & grungy dive right by the lake. Some of the cooler bartenders I've encountered in the East Bay. Was bummed that they planned to close at the end of 2023: But! Now they're open on Friday nights only, better than nothing eh:“
“The Avenue is the all year round Halloween decor dive bar located in Oakland in the Temescal area off of Telegraph. Located in the area where a lot of restaurants are, we tend to come here while waiting to be seated for ramen or after getting some Cuban sandwiches. Watch out where you park here because it's bip central. But The Avenue has a full bar with cheap drinks, brews, and everything. They have a pool table, tons of seating areas, and other activities and I think you can watch games here. Service is great and a vibe inside.“
“You could drive by this place for years and not know they serve one of the best birrias in the bay area. The closest thing you can find to Jalisco/Guadalajara. I love the complimentary bean tacos. I get chivo but they also have borrego on weekends. Ask for your cosume rojo or con salsita.“
“Expensive but Good food and strong drinks. Tried the 3 mole and chicken mole dishes. Had the Gertrude and El Tule Margaritas. I liked the El Tule better. Fast service. The ambience is nice inside. At least on Tuesday morning there was plenty of street parking.“
“Simply the best. Better than all the rest! (The song that plays in my head when I walk into the Good Hop)The draft list is always fire. And if you can't find a beer in the back you like.... well. That's not possible.Go and drink it!“
“Kerry House, nestled on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland, stands as an exceptional local haunt revered by residents for its vibrant atmosphere and welcoming vibe. The establishment boasts a well-curated jukebox and an inviting outdoor patio where smoking is permitted, making it a rare find. Bartenders exude energy and friendliness, contributing to the lively ambiance that has been a hallmark of Kerry House for years. Flanked by exquisite restaurants and charming baguette spots to both the left and right, it's positioned in a bustling area, promising an engaging experience. While soaking in the locale's lively spirit, visitors should be mindful of parking regulations. Ensure you feed the meter or opt for paid parking to avoid the inconvenience of a ticket. Kerry House is more than a bar; it's a testament to Oakland's spirited community and a must-visit spot for an authentic local experience.“
“Renewed interest when I saw their Instagram post about allowing friendly dogs inside. My friend was dog sitting and took our dog over to the confusion of the workers who said there was just a dog brawl the week before and didn't know the owner had made that post. They let him stay though, and our dog were the only one, so she got all the attention. Today there is one dog at the bar and two out on the parklet. My husband and I were third in line to "seat ourselves" at 6:45pm on a Friday in February. The couple in front of us left and we were next because the party of 4 wanted a booth. We were seated at the end of the long copper table meant for groups. We have been here with a larger group before. The only annoying thing about this seat is that some people who are impatient hover above you while they wait for a table. The waitstaff is efficient. They take your order and clear your table quickly. The check is paid with handheld machine and it's now a cashless restaurant. There are four tvs for sports lovers. Three over the bar and one in the "dining area." There are a few parklet tables, and some tables in the windows, which open during nice weather. Very convenient location across from Rockridge BART. Otherwise you can pay for street parking or find free residential parking. There are two unisex restroom, one hidden in the dining corner, and the other towards the kitchen. There is a full bar and happy hour. You can sign up for their email list or social media to keep up on events, but they regularly have karaoke and trivia. If you walk by, they will have posters on their windows. We have been here only occasionally over the last 10 years of living in Rockridge. Today we had the deviled eggs, which come six in a plate and are well formed. The cheeseburger is juicy but too bready for my liking. The fries have that double crisp crust trend that showed up some decade ago for no good reason, but ketchup helps everything. There is a caddy full of all kinds of condiments for the table. We also had the Caesar kale salad, which is very big. The chicken cubes are juicy but the crispy garbanzos aren't too cohesive. We asked for a takeout box and it was compostable and came to the table for us to self pack. Kid friendly so there were some kids during our visit. Neighborhood bar and grill. Nothing mind blowing but a good staple to have in the area. There is wifi available, check the menu on the wall for the password.“
“Quality and presentation is great and the food is good. However, a great meal (especially the Indian cuisine) isn’t just about sustenance. The Ingredients and Spices are the magical tools, adding depth, warmth, and complexity to every dish transforming ordinary meal into extraordinary experiences. So with that in mind, I recommend the sizzling dishes, we had fish and prawns which were good & tasty. I was not impressed by the Chicken Tikka Masala which is my favorite dish, it was too ordinary and just dull. The Fish curry was ok. The rice is too ordinary and not what I expect for an Indian Basmati rice. Nan/Garlic-Nun are good as well as the Samosas. 3.1/2 Starts for Food.(3= Good, 4= Great, 5= Exceptional.)“
“Joyous, crunchy lunch - the *best* restaurant week value! 3 tacos, icy cold hibiscus agua fresca, and a warm dulce, all for $15. I ordered the potato tacos but they encourage you to order any combination of the available tacos. First time here but it won't be the last!“
“I come up from San Jose to this place all the time. Definitely a spot worth visiting when in the area. The ambiance is chill, everyone is friendly. The drinks are constantly rotating and are top notch. Above all there's the awesome and amazing Bob: super friendly, really knows his stuff and makes the best drinks known to man. Highly recommended“
“Quite the experience, this fusion eatery has something for everyone. The food is fantastic and presented in style. I was impressed by the service and knowledgable staff. The atmosphere is distinct and modern, artisanal yet tastefully so. Worthy of a casual date or simply drinks with coworkers. Safe and serious, and highly recommended.“
“Good place to stop by and grab a healthy salad on your way to catch your flight. I had the Super Green Salad with Tofu. I liked the fresh ingredients and the dressing. There were plenty of other ready to go salads to choose from. If you arrive early for your flight, you can take your salad and walk over and catch the view of the bay nearby. If I am ever catching another flight out of the Oakland Airport again, I'll make sure and try another one of their salads.“
“I take it that Noir Alley’s Eddie Muller owns a piece of the place since he keeps broadcasting from here. I mean, there’s plenty more noir bars he could yak from. A tad sneaky, Eddie, but I’ll try it next time I’m in town. Ciao, babes.“
“Service was really great! Everyone was friendly and food and drinks came out quickly. Server was circling around the whole time, so we didn’t have to wait ever.Steak dish was good, especially the mashed potatoes. We also liked the hummus, croquettas, and the salad.Cute spot, cold inside though.“
“Ayo! This spot is litt! The vibes was great. The patrons was cool. And the bartender was all around great! The atmosphere was good energy. Not a place for BS. The drinks was on point. Would definitely return. And trying to return regularly. It's like a Time Machine....like Cheers, I want to go where they know me name! Older and more respectable crowd. The DJ spins music I can jam and vibe out to. Two thumbs up! The food served was unconventional. That's all I'm gonna say.“
“Ok this is my first time at this bar. my bartender Jamie was just fabulous. Excellent from the time I sat down to the time I ordered my drink to the time I got my food. so I ordered the chicken potstickers and they came out nice and hot. They were crispy with the dipping sauce on the side. & honey Sriracha chicken wings. with the patron margarita, and a glass of water with lemon. my food was delicious. so when it's game time stop in and watch the game at this bar.and enjoy your self'.“
“Delicious craft cocktails in a chill lounge environment. A great spot for an after-work drink! Lovely staff that's committed to quality, too--we watched them toss a cocktail after tasting it and finding it not meeting their satisfaction. Great to see!“
“I've known this place since I had my own bar on Broadway was involved with the clubs in the East Bay Area. I silks Charlie Brown's luckylion. in Oakland, equinox and zaas on Grand Ave., Miss Ivy downtown Oakland, Overland house Rusty scupper and others. Lotta people may remember where square apple or tower power starter on Broadway. The East Bay was the hottest place for a lot of nightclubs on Broadway“
“Cool place. Good drinks and beer selection. TVs for games, but without the sports bar feel.Glad Google asked me to update this review. Because my only criticism was that they covered the patio. But now, the patio cover is actually a super nice RETRACTABLE cover. No notes. Lol“
“The bartender Carlie is a true sweetheart. The service is stellar. They give you HUGE Shots here. I've never seen anything like it. She gave me 4 shots and it's like 2+ shots in each drink. Money will spent and they're not expensive. Based on quality of service I would've given them a 5 star review but it's just a dive bar. I'll be back #FACTS“
“Fun bar with a lot of Halloween decor in October! We came on a Friday around 8:30pm and there were a few open tables with some standing room. We weren't sure if there was a set cocktail menu (it seems like there isn't), so we ended up getting some Long Island Iced Teas. The drinks were strong and smooth, and I got served pretty quickly at the bar. However, it wasn't ideal that the bartender didn't even ask if we wanted to keep a tab open. We had to pay and tip right away, so we actually left after one drink. Overall, this seems like a fun, neighborhood bar, but because there aren't any signature drinks, I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to come back.“
“Went here for dinner with 2 older uncles. The restaurant is nice. We were seated immediately at a busy time with no reservation. The food was very good and plentiful. One server was nice enough to come over and serve the salad we ordered to split. Food came out pretty quickly. Prices are decent for nice Italian restaurants. They have some unusual cocktails on the menu, including make your own Manhattan. There was live music with guitar player, and it was hard to have a conversation close to the musicians. Would definitely recommend it but ask to be seated far from the music if you are with anyone hard of hearing.“
“Definitely an upscale hole in the wall bar. As part of a gay pride pub crawl, I enjoyed the bar. Super cute. Not big people friendly in the sense that it is very narrow. Liked the stage and small dance floor. Had instruments so I assume they have live music. Major plus. Cute back outdoor patio. Has a sidewalk patio. Also a plus. Didn't get 5 stars because it seemed unprepared for the pub crawl crowd.“
“I love the concept of this restaurant, the atmosphere and presentation of the dishes with do many delicious flavors . We started with the chicharrones with guacamole , the chicharron was a top for me!My favorite was the beef barbacoa empanada very filling and tasty, the cucumber & brusela salad was amazing so many flavors and very fresh. We also ordered the asada tacos, I like their special take with queso, guac and grilled onion. Super cute place and bar with amazing mezcal cocktails!!“
