“A group of 6 of us were here celebrating 2 of our closest friends’ birthdays on Saturday, November 22, 2025. We all had a phenomenal experience. Top notch food, and main reason I am writing this review is due to the person serving us (JOSH). Our evening was made extra special thanks to JOSH. He greeted us with a genuine smile, anticipated our needs without being intrusive, and offered thoughtful recommendations that turned out to be spot-on. His friendly demeanor and attention to detail made us feel truly cared for. We left not only full but also grateful for such exceptional service.”

“Didn’t feel like cooking so I called to pick up some burgers on the way home. Turns out it was a good idea. I’m never disappointed w any of the food I’ve gotten here. I always see the owner in there greeting customers and leaving the table full of smiles. This is the best example of local hospitality and food I can think of. Stop in and have a burger or a sandwich or some pizza or even a drink. You will be satisfied with your decision and may even wonder about being a regular. I’m glad this place is open.”

“We often eat there when we're in Ankeny, and did so last Sunday. The fish and chips was, as it always is, outstanding. Our waitress, Jordan, was equally outstanding. She took care of our lunch time needs, often anticipating what we were wanting next. She even sent my wife home with a cup of the pop she was drinking. Simply outstanding and is our favorite restaurant when we're in Des Moines area.”

“Trailside Tap is a must-visit in Ankeny! The back patio is amazing. The Berry Summer Salad and Three Pepper Burger were packed with flavor and just the right size. And do yourself a favor—order the Mulberry Mule. You won’t regret it!”

“Meet my brother and his wife as they were traveling and I knew Hy Vee would be easy to find coming of the interstate. I was not aware that they had no wait service in the restaurant. They directed me to the bar area so we could order. Starla G was our server and she was okay. We ordered our drinks and took advantage of the half price appetizers. The chicken quesadilla was good for $4.50 they did change extra for guacamole but worth the extra money. Drinks at $1.99 for coffee and ice tea was a good price. We all ordered different entries so we had chicken sandwiches and omelettes for $10.00 each. Food was good but not sure I would return as I like to have a more attentive waiter or waitress.”

“It wasn't very busy on Valentine's day so my friends and I went to have dinner. The hostess was very unprofessional and was sitting behind the table that you check in at. He didn't greet us and I think was confused what was going on...the lady that took care of us was such a sweetheart. Thinks did take a while and prepare to get all your food at once even if you order an appetizer. Lots of other people standing around and shouting to other people even if they were busy with their own tables, for me that's unprofessional. Would I go back again to eat? Maybe, but not driving out to Ankeny just to eat there.”

“This place is really cool. Feels like a home town bar but upscale at the same time. Exactly what a bar i built would look like. Unbelievable whiskey selection and the staff if great. Foods never misses also.”

“Just went here for my bday dinner last night with family (was a little worried due to reading prior reviews) and all 7 of us had an excellent experience! Bar tender was friendly and did a great job, and the wait staff served happily and quickly. Chef did a great job and entertained and engaged us, while we had delicious food at the hibachi grill. “Just stopped in for the first time and WOW!!! These macarons are absolutely INCREDIBLE! If I lived closer, I would genuinely be here every single day. I love all of the flavors I picked out, but they gave me a free Cinnamon Bun macaron to try and it was easily the best thing I have eaten in a very very long time. I will be anxiously awaiting the next time I have an excuse to run to Ankeny and pick more of these up! Edited to add: I was so excited about the macarons that I forgot to comment on the delicious coffee I got! I tried The Good Day and it is SO yummy, would definitely recommend if you like your coffee on the sweeter side :)”

Hubby got the regular size crispy chicken burrito and he said it was 5 stars. The regular is huge! I got the ground beef burrito and the meat was very well seasoned and was way more than I could eat but was delicious! Next time I'll go with the small which will still be more than I can probably eat. We will definitely be going back!”

“My wife and I went there Saturday evening for dinner, drinks, and a football game. Our waitress was outstanding! Can't remember her name but she is a 4th grade teacher.
Drinks were wonderful and lots of draft beer to choose from. We ordered a pizza and it was very good. Good enough that we are coming back Friday night to try taco pizza.

“I am the type of person that loves positivity and giving great reviews. Give honor to where honor is due. And I give great reviews, call the managers and praise the service all the time. I have also had my share of terrible service and/or food and usually do not say a word. The experience I had this afternoon at Culvers in Ankeny was horrendous. The food that is. The drive through guy that took my order, payment and delivery was so kind and helpful. I ordered a cod dinner and was only able to eat some of the fish. The 2 sides I ordered were cheese curds and fries. Both were so cold, hard and dry. I was so disappointed. The roll that came with it was cold, hard and dry as well. The butter was good! I did eat most of the fish but it too was tough. WHAT has happened to Culvers? Don't they realize that they are not the only option for food? Sad to say but I will be going to those other options for my meals in the future. The concrete I ordered was sloppy (down side of cup) and melting but did taste good. I HATE leaving a poor review but come on Culvers. Do better. Be better. If it had been just 1 food this review would never have been written. Oh, side note. This was after the lunch rush and before dinner rush. It was close to 2. Got right into drive through with no waiting. Disappointed.”

“Yesterday, Pam and I attended my monthly Ankeny High School class of 1968 luncheon, which this month was held at the Tin Cup Bar and Grill located at the Otter Creek Golf Course. We thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company and engaged in stimulating conversations, complemented by exceptional service and delectable cuisine.

I particularly appreciated their Grinder, which I found to be the most exquisite I have ever tasted. The delectable onion rings were simply irresistible, and my plate was licked clean. The Grinder’s bun was of exceptional quality, boasting a tender and pleasant texture. The meat, renowned Graziano Brothers sausage, was not only mouthwatering and flavorful, but it also provided a generous portion of delectable cheese. To my delight, it also offered a subtle yet pleasant spice heat.

Italian Grinder:
This dish is undoubtedly the perfect combination of Graziano’s delectable ground sausage, Italian seasonings, and red sauce, topped with a generous serving of mozzarella cheese and served toasted on a hoagie.

We were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable pricing at the Tin Cup Bar and Grill, as well as the friendly and helpful servers. Overall, it was an excellent value for the money. As we frequently shop in Ankeny, and the Bar and Grill is conveniently located near Costco, we anticipate frequent visits.”

“This is a very nice laid back bagel coffee shop. There are a million drink options and tons of bagel and breakfast options. The bagel bites and bagels are awesome. Great place to relax and enjoy a cup of your favorite coffee or other drink and have something to eat.”

“It's a Panera, on par with any other Panera. Good bagels, never had a bad drink from here, a little compact to fit a lot of seating but not claustrophobic. Can get a lot loud and might be difficult to hear when your order is called, but the pickup area is obvious and easy to check. Overall solid place and never had any issues.”

“Ordered for delivery and the app was easy to use and quoted an hour for delivery. Before I could finish vacuuming and she was knocking on my door. This lady was so sweet!!! Now the food was... After stopping in Bench Warmers several times and not getting waited on because the waitresses tend to pay more attention to bar patrons, we decided to give Bench Warmers one more try! We were pleasantly greeted immediately by Lisa that took our drink order and gave us time to check out the menu and visit while we were enjoying our drinks. The service was fantastic and always with a smile. We will stop in again in the near future! I think one other waitress finally greeted us as we were walking out the door!”

“Never had this place before but my fiance and I have been on a diet and wanted a cheat day and this place popped up the gyro fries instantly caught our eyes they give you a perfect amount of meat if youre a saucy person definently order extra tzatziki sauce but they definently outbreak any on going doubts that we had going into it absolutely amazing and we never had baklava before but holy crap was it good every baklava ive seen just looks dry there's is smothered in honey so moist and so flaky at the same time the most delicious dessert my fiance has ever had which to you readers it might not seem much but she loves really good desserts and has a wide taste variety for desserts and this one somehow beat them all try it for yourself if youre a non believer but just expect that its going to outbeat your expectations I would give this place 10 stars if I truly could I hope by writing this review they dont ever change recipes because they have a perfect thing going thank you to all the employees and chefs this place was (insert chefs kiss meme)”

“I had Java Joe's years ago when I first came to Iowa. They left downtown DSM but I'm so glad that I was able to find them again in Ankeny! The coffee is still good and the food (TJ's Bagels) is still just as good as I remember it. The ghost pepper bagel is my favorite! It's got a nice, flavorful spice that goes well with a plain cream cheese on a perfectly chewy bagel. The highlight here is honestly the staff here. They're the real MVPs. Highly recommend!”

“I stop by Dunkin' twice a week before heading to the office. Even when I'm short on time, I know I can count on them to have my coffee ready quickly. That's one of the reasons I love this place. “My coworker and I have frequently been eating lunch on Thursdays due to our schedule allowing time to do so. Brandi Stanley has been our server the last 2 times and she has been awesome. Her professionalism, courteous disposition and prompt service is why we have come back. She ought to be commended for her service.”

“I am the type of person that loves positivity and giving great reviews. Give honor to where honor is due. And I give great reviews, call the managers and praise the service all the time. I have also had my share of terrible service and/or food and usually do not say a word. The experience I had this afternoon at Culvers in Ankeny was horrendous. The food that is. The drive through guy that took my order, payment and delivery was so kind and helpful. I ordered a cod dinner and was only able to eat some of the fish. The 2 sides I ordered were cheese curds and fries. Both were so cold, hard and dry. I was so disappointed. The roll that came with it was cold, hard and dry as well. The butter was good! I did eat most of the fish but it too was tough. WHAT has happened to Culvers? Don't they realize that they are not the only option for food? Sad to say but I will be going to those other options for my meals in the future. The concrete I ordered was sloppy (down side of cup) and melting but did taste good. I HATE leaving a poor review but come on Culvers. Do better. Be better. If it had been just 1 food this review would never have been written. Oh, side note. This was after the lunch rush and before dinner rush. It was close to 2. Got right into drive through with no waiting. Disappointed.”

“We had a variety of choices for an evening meal, and we chose The Other Place Ankeny. What a great pick! They had the right balance of everything we like in a restaurant.
The Food: we went with the Sampler for our appetizer. It didn't disappoint. The onion rings and fried mushrooms were delightfully delicious. The two chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks were prepared perfectly. House-made marinara, ranch, and honey mustard dressing served on the side were especially great.
While their menu is straightforward. We liked the SICILIAN pizza. It's a brushed garlic-basil oil, Italian sausage, spinach, mushrooms, red onions, sun-dried tomatoes, red peppers, and mozzarella. Since they have been making pizzas for over fifty years they know something about what makes a great pizza. It had the right balance of toppings, sauce, and dough. This isn't some cookie-cutter pizza either. It has definitive flavors and tastes. Our drinks were there while we perused the menu. Seeing some of the cuisine coming out of the kitchen wet our appetite for our next visit.
The Service: Here's where they did well, with just a few faux-paus. Our server was on point with drinks and the kitchen delivered our food fast and hot. At the end of the meal, we asked for a box for the rest of our food. She had just a few tables and forgot about our request. She came back after checking on her other tables and asked if we wanted a box. Then she went to service her other tables before coming back. We then had to wait to pay our bill (which is done by her POS device). You don't know what's on the bill until your receipt is printed.
The Atmosphere: this is the way a sports bar and grill is done well. While there were multiple TVs, with a lot of action, (the NBA playoffs, NHL playoffs, and Cubbies- who have been on a tear) were all muted. This made for being able to enjoy our meal and the overall vibe of the place. The eclectic choices of decor and signage made it interesting to take note of the whole place. The seating options were especially nice. With short and long booths, table and bar stool tops, and a bar adequately spaced made it that much easier to have a fantastic time.
The bathrooms are clean and well-maintained.
We loved our meal and bookmarked it for another visit.
Update: we went back, and boy did they impress. Everything was perfect.”

“My 50th birthday is coming up and my favorite ice cream is a seasonal flavor at BR, but there aren't any close to us anymore. I had to come to the DSM area for an outpatient surgery. I was able to call the day before and ask them to pack up some of that flavor so I could put it in the freezer until my birthday. When I was there yesterday, the owners were so kind and gracious and I was pleasantly surprised to unpack the ice cream at home to find that the female employee, who packed up my ice cream after taking my call-in order, had written a personal birthday message on my packed ice cream! That above-and-beyond customer service is pretty rare these days in Iowa, sadly, and I can appreciate that as both a customer and as the former owner of a store. THANK YOU.”

“I don't usually leave reviews but truly I must after the incredible experience we just had here. My kids are your typical picky eaters and getting them to eat is usually quite a task. Instead of the usual, both my kids devoured thier burgers, and were even asking if they could get another burger. They are currently talking about how they can't wait to go back. The atmosphere was fun and the staff was just as fun while still being professional. The food...the food was absolutely scrumptious. We will be back soon and greatly appreciate how one stop has made our entire day brighter.”
