“We went to Zentli on a Sunday evening. The ambience was welcoming and the waitstaff friendly and helpful. We ordered vegan food which was fresh, delicious and filling. My husband thought the Zentli Salad was excellent. We both had tacos (Nopales, zetas and verduras). We shared the vegan dessert, plantains with a vegan caramel cream sauce, which was quite tasty. We will return , perhaps for a weekend brunch.”

“We visited this amazing establishment last night and ordered the filet and the Manhattan strip for our entrées with a side of the mushrooms, and it was possibly one of the best steaks we had had. Our server and Jesse was wonderful, and when he wasn’t available home, there was another manager who came and brought items out, so there was no delay in service while he was attending another customer and socialized at the table. We dined outside on the patio underneath the heat lamp and lights. The Barn was the perfect atmosphere for our relaxing evening together. We were very pleased with all that we ordered as well as the service. We would highly recommend the Barn restaurant to others.”

Also had some nigiri sushi, all very good. The Black Tobiko was plentiful and fresh. The Tamago and Inari, which are types of sushi that are deceptively simple seeming but really show a chef's knowledge and artistry, were excellent. I'm sure I will go again.”

“Many, many moons ago, I used to visit Evanston with some frequency, and especially Main Street. I loved Goods, Toys Et Cetera, Vogue Fabrics (moved to Hartrey), and Dave’s Rock Shop (which is blessedly still going strong since 1970). The older I get, the more nostalgic I become for old-school, authentic businesses like Sher-Main. So many places I loved in Evanston are no longer – Tom Thumb moved from Davis Street to a dingy, somewhat depressing warehouse in an industrial area in Niles. Betty’s of Winnetka is long defunct, as is the Tokyo Shop, Protex, Walter Burt Adams, and many other places from my youth.

It is fitting that this old-school diner is on Main Street. It could very well be on any Main Street across the USA. But I am thinking a dusty old town where time stood still, not a decidedly progressive, upscale, ever-evolving, but always hip town like Evanston. This place brought back memories of the Lincolnwood Coffee Grill and Fountain Shop and funky, old school diners I went to during my art school years in Providence, Rhode Island. It is getting harder and harder to find places like this and actually impossible in my second city, NYC – at least in Manhattan.

We opened the door and were greeted with, we only take cash. This was already obvious from all of the signs and the article I read on the Evanston Round Table. “Since its inception in 1959 the restaurant has been cash only, as no fewer than four large signs on the window and door proclaim.” We tried sitting in one of the decrepit old booths that have seen better days in the front. We’re very petite, so I think only a child could comfortably slide into one of these booths. The proverbial sleeping man mentioned in another review awoke quickly from his catnap – the cook and maybe owner, I presume.

Everything here is old school – from the classic stools and booths to the quaint, laminated menus. We both ordered the deluxe hamburger and the fries were cooked to perfection. We mentioned we like them crispy and they actually listened! The server was a very sweet and friendly woman who knew all the regulars by their names. The only thing that wasn’t old school here was the surprisingly clean bathroom. If I lived in Evanston, I would definitely be a regular patron of this charming diner.”

“I have been a patient at a re hab center nearby for 3 weeks.Tempting me with different foods so I would eat better, she brought me a half of a turkey sandwich and supposedly a cup of vegetable soup.

I think the soup was a pint, it was fabulous, all veggies were cooked perfectly. When she pulled out the turkey sandwich without unwrapping it I thought by the Wieght I thought she got me a full one. I don't know how they make money. She was bringing them almost every day. I'm leaving here tomorrow and am really going to miss their food. I wish they really had one by where I live.”

There is ample seating inside and an outdoor area with patio furniture. You can order on the kiosk inside or with one of the folks working.”

ALL of them. Little Island stands right up there. What they do have that is the best in Cook County are their fries. Best ever. They don't travel well, so have them there. Grilled polish is outstanding. And NEVER, EVER, EVER order a dog or a Polishj with anything red - ketchup OR tomato. Two stars for atmosphere - if that's important to you, go to Portillo's.”

We ordered the Kung Pao chicken (which is actually spicy), the Mongolian beef — which is phenomenal — and the egg rolls and fried rice, both of which are beyond fabulous. The flavors are spot-on, portions are generous, and the quality is way better than you’d expect from a place that somehow still flies under the radar.

I always get the 8 piece whole wings and fries with a lot of lemon pepper always a 10 out of 10. I did try other things like the shawarma plate and chicken strips (both 5 out of 10) room for improvement. The burgers are 9 out of 10 great combination of flavors, note I tried the warrior burger and bacon cheeseburger. Today I tried the Philly beef cheese steak sandwich and OMG melt in your mouth gooey goodness definitely a 10 out of 10. They accomodated me on my mushroom allergy, so thankful for that. My only regret is that wish I tried it sooner.

The staff at Ali's Broast and Burgers are all super friendly and fast. And the smells are free!!!! It smells and tastes like they change their grease often and the place is always clean. Ali's Broast and Burgers is a million times better than tasty sub on Damen which I only went to once and could tell they don't change their grease. Never again tasty sub. I walked 2 blocks or so further to Ridge blvd and Ali's broast was a game changer from day one. Going to try their fish next. Will update. But overall 10 out of 10 definitely recommend again and again.”

“Five stars! Our group had lunch here recently and shared some dishes, served by friendly people. The Vegetable Momo was wonderful, light and fresh. I had Nepali Khasi with a flavorful sauce. Others had Chicken Chowmein, Lamb Vindaloo, and Jhol Momo. All were full of taste and the ingredients were fresh and perfectly prepared. “Ordered their happy hour combo of 2 Chicago hot dogs and small fries for 7$ which is a great value for money deal. The Chicago dogs were wonderfully overloaded with condiments just as you'd expect. The pickle and relish were especially good. The sausage itself was a bit underwhelming but the amazing condiments made sure the hotdog served as a filling and tasty meal.

Maybe it was because the order had been waiting for a while but the fries were soggy and a bit too salty for my liking. I honestly would just skip the fries next time.”

“Overall, an excellent experience. The quality of the food is great, and prices are reasonable for what you get. The staff is friendly and professional, which really adds to the experience.
Parking is available but paid, so it’s something to factor into the overall cost unless you’re willing to park farther away. It was also a bit noisy, so I wouldn’t choose it as a study spot, although it’s clearly popular with students.
All in all, a solid place for good coffee and baked goods, and I’d happily return.”
