“I love Back Yard Brew. I recently stopped there for a Meetup book club. To be honest with you, the book club was underwhelming but fortunately the coffee was not. The courtyard is designed with maximum eclecticism in mind, so it's the polar opposite of a Starbucks or Peets or heaven forbid a Dunkin Donuts. I recommend the Turkish coffee if you like cardamom scented thick ground coffee. Otherwise order a Yemen or Mexican pour over. Grab brags before you leave for your home brewing needs and definitely check out the restroom before you leave!“

The coffees- we tried hot and cold- were each THE BEST we’ve had in Charlotte…no contest. No paper cups here if you eat in… coffee only as it should be served: in real mugs on saucers with decorative art in the foam that holds while you drink it. The bahn mi sandwich was light and tasty like it should be- loved the bulgogi one. The bread was beyond anything I’ve found locally. “My wife and I had a fantastic dinner experience at 131 Main! The atmosphere is perfect for upscale casual dining - inviting and stylish. Our server, Kellie, was top-notch. She was friendly, attentive, and made sure our experience was great.The food came out incredibly fast, in about 10 minutes, and everything was piping hot. We could tell the ingredients were fresh by the taste and perfect seasoning. I had the slow roasted chicken, and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken itself was juicy and flavorful, and the smashed potatoes were a perfect complement. My wife ordered the crabcakes, and they were loaded with succulent crabmeat. The sauce was also amazing!We highly recommend 131 Main and will definitely be back to try more of their menu.“

“What a great spot for seafood. We sat on the rooftop flat on a beautiful night and had a feast. The mussels and oysters were delicious. My party loved the herbaceous sauce on the fresh oyster selection. They had 2 ocean, 3 bay, and 3 river oysters. We tried the sea ones initially before switching to chargrilled. The food was seasoned to perfection. I would suggest any of the seafood here. Great quality.“

“I attended the 2nd Anniversary event. The female ( dark headed) beer server was not pleasant or inviting as previous staff members have been on my previous visits. She did not offer up any information about the specials or promotions going on for this special event. I overheard another bartender telling someone else about the beer glass offer. I then asked the female bartender about it upon her return of my drink. I ended up purchasing the glass, but she didnt even bother putting my drink in the glass or filling the glass all the way up. This was one of my favorite breweries, but I will think twice on subsequent visits if the customer service remains subpar“

Their free sampler plate (Mac-n-cheese, cauliflower wings, meatless meatloaf, jackfruit barbecue and chicken fried shrooms) was a perfect way to try their awesome menu. Everything was flavorful with a nice texture. Also, I enjoyed their delicious berry smoothie sweetened with dates. “We're back to get the lemon donuts that are only served on Saturdays. Don't get me wrong, they have other specialty donuts too. Today a caramel apple donut and a banana muffin donut were specialties too, but I stuck to my favorite. The cashier was friendly, and the donuts and coffee were hot. What more could you ask for? If you're new to REIGNING donuts, it is a walk up to a building that has a literal hole in the wall where you order, pay by card only, and collect your made to order donuts. It is quaint and deservedly popular.“

The event space was nearly perfect. The only small issue we had was acoustics in the meeting room. Service was very good and timely. Brian the bartender was awesome and get the wine glasses full. “Great idea for a restaurant that should be fully supported by the community, with decent food and nice atmosphere, but with slow service during busy lunch times (that can be excused as most of the staff are from the rescue mission). I had the New Orleans chicken sandwich with a side of home fries. The sandwich was huge, but was not sauced as expected, since the order was mixed up and they had put the sauce on the side. The staff is being trained so we know going in that service may be slow. Other orders like the French toast were delicious. I will be back to support this restaurant with their hopeful message.“

That being said I have been active in the craft beer scene in a different state for a long time and Lower Left reminds me of the exciting early day of craft brewing. A local brewery, laidback vibes, run by folks that want to make a good product and have a fun time doing it. The beers well made, and the selection is stellar for such a small brew house. They really shine with IPAs, but have some amazing rotating beers (including a Key Lime Pie beer that is in my top 10 list). So bring your spouse, kids, in-laws, dogs, cats and head over to Lower Left for a solid beer and good times.“

“This is the absolute best coffee I’ve ever tasted!! It’s smooth and rich with great flavors. Even the Decaf is wonderful. I tend to crave coffee at night but have never found a decaf coffee that isn’t bitter and nasty. This decaf has all the flavor and richness of regular coffee. “Yesterday my husband and I had a 3pm reservation… Jacob was our tour guide and he was professional, interesting to listen to and had ALOT of knowledge of wines/ whiskey and the history of the establishment. What I liked best about the tour was how we didn’t feel rushed and he was patient while we were taking photos to show our good time.
