“Never had Pakistani food so this was our first. Spotted this restaurant randomly on the street and it caught my attention. “Finally lively AYCE hotpot with wagyu.

Liuyishou is a popular outfit for traditional hotpot, and here in the GTA they have long moved to AYCE format. This Scarborough location has been around for a long time as seen by the dated interior. Nonetheless it’s still popular with some good promos to compete among the huge swath of Asian restaurants in this plaza. We chose an array of hotpot broths including the house special spicy, sukiyaki, pork bone broth & tomato soup.

We came here to celebrate a family occasion, and Liuyishou delivered with its good selection of broths, meats, seafood, and veggies. The $8 Wagyu add-on on weekend was a nice upgrade—thinly sliced, tender, and worth trying if you want something a bit more indulgent. The $3.99 all-you-can-drink station was a pleasant surprise too, making it easy to keep refilling without thinking twice. Service was quick even despite it being relatively busy and a bit loud during dinner peak.

Note the pricing per adult ($34.99 weekend dinner) excludes the soup base which is about $17 for a large shareable pot or $9 for an individual sized pot per guest so the bill can rack up. The wagyu and drinks are add-ons too. They do have a 2 adult + 1 kid family combo for $73.99 on weekends with one drink pitcher excluding soup base. Dessert is included such as taro soft serve, rice ball soup & cold jelly.

Skip it or hit it? Hit it for a casual, authentic hotpot experience.”

“I'm usually resistant to go to elevated Chinese restaurants, but Sunny's Chinese was an exception and it absolutely delivered across the quality of dishes we got, and the service. The stars for me were definitely the Mapo Tofu with side of rice, and Black Sesame HK French Toast. Try to book at the Counter Bar if you can, always the best spot in the house. Will be back again to try their takes on other regional Chinese dishes - just follow the Red light at the end of the Hall.”

“Came in for dinner with a friend. Overall, the tasting menu was great and we highly recommend the experience (7 dishes), we were impressed with multiple dishes and the pacing was good (~3 hours). Will definitely be back!

Food ~
So much good aesthetic food, everything was cooked on point, ingredients were both high quality and fresh. Particularly loved the lobster, snow crab, striped bass, duck, cheese & crackers, and tres leches cake dishes. Also found it interesting that before your main dish (duck) you are given a light dessert as a palette cleanser, which was refreshing indeed with great flavour (strawberry jelly, raspberry icecream with an intricate lime biscuit like topper).

Drinks ~
We also added on the mocktail pairing which came with 5 drinks to accompany 5 dishes. Mostly unique blends that leaned on the sour side where 3/5 mocktails were particularly enjoyable. However, I do recommend skipping the mocktail pairing and ordering drinks directly.

Extra notes on standout combos...
Aged roasted duck: I love duck and was most excited for this dish. They did not let me down, the duck was made super tender and flavourful you can really taste the earnest intention and time used to prepare it just right. The mushroom, paired sauces, and bread (super fluffy and comes with a butter elevated with fermented agave) were amazing together; the mocktail pairing for this was also perfect - made with sour cherry and apple cider kombucha - it tasted like a great red wine alternative and really completed the dish.
Lobster - served with flan at the bottom and a few fresh peas with foam on top.. super creamy with soft textures yet sharply distinct flavours that complemented each other perfectly and were simply delicious together.
Snow crab - crab served with a tangy twist and spaghetti squash, very good flavour combination that didn't taste complicated but yummy nonetheless.. the kind of dish that inspires me to attempt to make something similar at home!
Cheese & crackers: sweet rye crackers with a mousse cheese and quince jelly filling. This flavour combination was unexpectedly superb, hitting a good balance between sweet and savoury through a melody of smokey, fruity, and creamy flavours.

Vibes ~
Ambiance is cozy and warm toned, I will add that I found it slightly chilly so if you get cold easily take note. We sat at the chef's table/beside the kitchen, and were hoping to get a better view of the chefs preparing food, however it wasn't worth it as 1) we really couldn't see much as the counter was too high and blocked most of our view, 2) this front space was tighter than the main dining area 3) we were right beside the bathroom and 4) cost is the same as sitting in the main area. Just a heads up, aim to sit in the main dining area if you can! Bathroom is nice with 2 non-gendered single rooms, they also provide clean towels for drying your hands.

Staff ~
They were so friendly, explained the menu well as dishes came out. Also knowing that we were having a goodbye dinner to mark the occasion of my friend moving far away, the team signed off on a bon voyage card for her, which was a very sweet momento.

Recommendations ~
Please add more mocktail creations to your drinks menu! Also, it's always fun to get a copy of the tasting menu as a printout at the end, we were only given 1 for our table of 2 - it would be nice if everyone got their own. I also love the shoutout on the menu to the farms/places they source ingredients from.”

“I can't help feeling that there could be some extra vegan/vegetarian options for stewing. Having said that, there is a few tofus, lifts of veggies and roots and noodles.
We had the mushroom broth and the tomatoes broth.
I suggest one or three other as the spicy tomato will overShadow the mushroom.
It was absolutely delicious, fresh, and friendly. We absolutely will be going back. My only complaint is i wish there were a couple more extra veggie options. And i would say a 4.7 as is not a 4. I just don't have that option lol”

Restaurant got crowded and loud fast, but still has a nice, but minimalist ambiance.

The food:
I was told it's not thai spicy, so if thats thai very mild I'd die in Thailand. Most dishes were packed with a burning lingering spice. The quality of meat was phenomenal and clean. The oysters were tangy and fresh with a simple but lovely thai flavor. The ceviche was refreshing and juicy but the side ingredients didn't add much. The tartar was very spicy and a bit messy to eat. The curried meat was very juicy with a savory sauce. The sausages were very unique with a great flavor profile and mix but they were a bit too greasy. The fish stew with okra was a bit disappointing to end off on with the okra feeling very slimy and undercooked personally.

Overall great food though!

From the start, Angela made the experience better. Whether it’s a busy rush or a quiet day, she treats everyone with the same respect and positive energy. She takes the time to listen, gets orders right, and never makes you feel rushed. Even when it’s hectic, she stays calm and professional, which really stands out.

Over the past four years, she’s recognized me, asked how I’ve been, and always greeted me with a smile. Not only was he super friendly and patient while we tried to decide what we wanted...but once he found out we were on our honeymoon he went out of his way to make us feel at home. He was happy to hear that people are still willing to take honeymoons and to see true love. I swear he was the friendliest person we met and he blessed us so much this visit. You answered my questions as we went along and provided good advice. The event itself was a huge success. The staff were excellent in terms of knowing when to bring out food, when to pass it and when to place it on the buffet table. Staff kept the gluten free food separate which made it easy for guests to find it - you even placed the gluten free cards I had brought. Beverage service was professional and the wines Valeriia selected were enjoyed by all. I had one guest with some very specific dietary requirements and Chef made a small plate for her which was ready when she arrived which was very much appreciated. The guests commented on the quality of the food and staff. Several people said that they would now come back to Le Select for dinners. I would strongly recommend Le Select for events.”

“Someone dear in my family purchased an Easter cake as a special treat for our Easter dinner dessert. It was really a most pretty work of art on the outside. BUT, as a veteran family cake baker, I was unimpressed with the qualilty and taste of the product as something to eat and savour. The cake itself was dry and tasteless with little resemblance to a propoer carrot cake. The overly generous icing was even worse leaving the palate with a sticky feel that smacked of pure lard or shortenng but decidedly not butter. Just gross! Anyone who thinks this is a fabulous cake has never eaten homemade carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, or has no taste at all. So, B and B, do stick to decorating I'd say.”

“The Amsterdam Brewhouse is located along the Lake Ontario Waterfront at Queen's Quay West. They have a large indoor and outdoor seating area and are open from 11am to late (weekdays) and 10am to late (weekends). Menu features the Amsterdam Brewery label draught beers along with a fairly typical bar food menu. We visited recently during a warm weekend afternoon and were able to be seated immediately. Blonde Lager tasted just fine, artichoke dip was pretty good as well. Prices are a bit high but we found food and drink quality to be fair enough, food portion sizes are good. Venue is quite fun and views of the lake are great. Amsterdam Brewhouse is a fun place, we'd be happy to pop in again during future walks along the waterfront.”

The servers were absolutely amazing, so attentive - due to small tables= the doormen were so friendly = kudos to management / ownership - If you're looking for a true authentic Italian restaurant = this is one you shouldn't miss out on. “Had an amazing omakase experience at Sushi Kiwami. Every course was thoughtfully prepared, and you could really tell the chef paid attention to every detail. The seafood was incredibly fresh, with each piece highlighting the natural flavor of the fish rather than relying on heavy seasoning.

Some of my favorites were the beautifully scored squid, the rich uni and crab course, and the perfectly balanced nigiri throughout the meal. The sake pairing was also excellent and complemented the progression of the courses very well.

The atmosphere was calm and intimate, and the service struck a great balance between being attentive and letting you enjoy the meal at your own pace. Overall, one of the best omakase experiences I’ve had in Toronto. Definitely worth visiting if you’re looking for high-quality Edomae sushi.”

“Hidden gem in Toronto for amazing matcha! Got the iced pistachio matcha and iced strawberry matcha, and both were definitely some of the best matcha’s we have ever had. The pistachio matcha is less sweet, which I really liked as it complimented the matcha well, while the strawberry matcha had the right amount of sweetness without making it too sugary. Service was also phenomenal, the barista let me try the pistachio milk first before I ordered the pistachio matcha which was very nice, and he was overall very friendly. Matchas came out very quickly and I liked that you could actually taste the matcha (it wasn’t watered down like other places). Also, the matcha that they use is very smooth. The cafe is very cute and clean too. Would definitely recommend this spot!”
