I asked to change the coffee and staff was nice about to replace the coffe into a new clean cup. The prices are on the higher side and portions are small, but that's somewhat expected. My husband was a fan of the food, while I particularly enjoyed the dessert and found the coffee/ food to be decent. It was relatively not busy at 1 pm. “High Cotton is one of the more prestigous locations to enjoy brunch (as well as lunch or dinner) in historic Charleston (note: it's part of the Hall's group of restaurants). At the corner of East Bay and Cumberland, it is comprised of four large rooms three of which have lots of natural sunlight while the fourth is a bar in the interior with dark wood paneling trim. The menu offers a pleasant mix of Southern style brunch classics (Chicken & Waffles, Shrimp & Grits and the like) but you are paying a bit of a premium for the name and location.For our meal, we started with yummy Cinnamon Rolls in a skillet (very taasty and sweet, especially the center portion), then a Brunch Burger (excellent... really like the egg, meat, bacon, cheese and sauce mix togther surrounded by an egg brioche bun...the only way to have a burger), and the Crab Cake Benedict (also very good).Service, as you'd expect, was professional, friendly and on point. We had an additional pleasure to know that we sat in the exact same table as Ryan Gosling and Rachel Adams did in The Notebook (it's the small 2 person round table in the corner facing East Bay and Cumberland Streets). Nice...and we had no clue about it when we arrived, it just so happened. Enjoy!“

“My husband and I decided to visit Charleston, SC, for the weekend. We ended up googling barbecue restaurants, and who would have known that the restaurant food, service, and atmosphere would be great. As we waited for our waitress to assist us, one of the cooks asked if we knew what we were ordering. We looked at each other, and then I looked at the cook and responded No. He replied I'll send out a sample plate. The sample plate had beef brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and smoked turkey on it. Just to let you know, the food was delicious. I chose to build my own and had the beef brisket, pulled pork, macaroni & cheese. Potato salad. Now I wasn't a fan of the potato salad, it had the taste of sour cream overload. The lemonade was very tart to me. Now for our waitress, Ms. Kirby was amazing. Her personality was amazingly pleasant. We thank you for your amazing service. Ms. Kirby, I pray many blessings of favor upon you and your brother. “They were very accommodating for my special diet. We came for a special occasion and I recently started a strict elimination diet. Honestly I was totally dreading this dinner bc I didn’t want to be “that girl” at the table questioning every ingredient. And I was fully expecting to have to sit and watch everyone else eat. But instead the chef came out, discussed my diet, and made sure there was an app, entree, and side that would be compatible with my restrictive diet. The food was delish (of course) but better than that was the fact that I could enjoy a meal with everyone else at the table.“
“Do yourself a favor and eat here! I happened to locate Bearcat on a whim and my wife and I decided to eat here for our 1 year anniversary. From the food to the cocktails, there was not one item that we disliked. We started with the Grilled Oysters, Smoked Maitake Mushrooms & Duck Liver Toast. The oysters were perfectly cooked and had an incredible earthy/savory taste. The maitake mushrooms were tender with a hint of smoke & the duck liver toast was point blank the best I have ever had in terms of quality, texture and taste. We then moved on to the Hamachi Crudo, Crab Rice & Pork Belly. My wife could could not get enough of the Hamachi Crudo & Crab Rice with the uni hollandaise. The pork belly was perfectly cooked with a fantastic amount of fat cap that made it melt in your mouth. For cocktails, please do yourself a favor and order the "That's My Jam" as every sip will make you feel like you are biting into a PB&J (if you are into that thing). The vanilla coffee was way too milky, couldn't even taste any coffee. The service was great, the young black male with braids who waited our table was friendly, attentive and quick. Beware the portions - they are giant. I heartily recommend fajitas, tamales y tacos. Accept that you will have extras for lunch tomorrow and order the large Dos Equis on draft or the Medium Margaritas (large only if someone else is driving). Come for your BDay, but don't ask the staff to sing for you - that is for visitors; as a local, order a round of lemon drops and the fajitas to share.“
