“It is challenging for me to describe how much passion and effort they put into the quality of their food. When I first arrived outside the restaurant, everyone patiently waited for the door to open on the dot. When the door opens, we are warmly greeted inside and check in promptly. There was a space on the right side to hang our coats and store our umbrellas since the rain was torrential. When I first sat down, I noticed how vast and spacious the restaurant was, with a beautiful large countertop leading to an open kitchen. The first course came, and despite how assuming it looked, that single bite packed such a large amount of flavor that I knew it was going to be a lovely evening. The subsequent dishes that followed were also not what it seemed, but the flavor did not clash for me. I had plenty of sake pairing during the meal that you never thought would work with that dish, but the pairing was pretty on point. I had lots of new sake I had never drunk before, and I had taken plenty of photos of each bottle so I could find it later when I wanted to.The owners are amiable when conversing with everyone and answering questions on the dish in particular or if they have any recommendations on another restaurant they like. It is not an experience I can elaborate on in detail, but rather, you have to experience it to know how different it is from all the restaurants I have experienced in the Bay Area. I will return to try their dishes when they rotate them again for the spring time.“
“came for happy hour, if you’re looking for don or ramen they have a lot to choose from. we were looking at smaller plates, everything was super delicious and fresh. calamari wasn’t overcooked, the scallops were so well dressed with a vinaigrette and fresh micro greens, pesto udon was a bit strong and greasy so i’d skip next time, and the kabocha croquette was sweet and battered fried.“
“Rocket Sushi is super fun, the fish is fresh, and I had a wonderful time! You order on a tablet and a model rocket will LAUNCH your food to your table! My favorite you must get is the Blue Fin Toro because the marbling so so beautiful and it tastes rich and salty! Get the Black Angel roll too as it is topped with caviar! You will NOT leave Rocket sushi hungry as the rice and fish ratio is massive compared to other sushi places! Overall, Rocket sushi serves fresh high quality fish that is enjoyable and tasty!“
“Went here when we were desperately craving ramen!! Cute spot. We loved the calamari, it was great. Was a bit difficult to get water and ramen was not amazing. Expected to be blown away for the price. Spent $80 (2 peopl) with no beverages besides water and one app.“
“I have eaten here four times now and every meal is incredible, and for an airport hotel restaurant, truly unbelievable. The hotel is lovely in every way, miles beyond the alternatives. But the restaurant is one of the reasons I stay here whenever I have a morning flight. Tonight had the lobster miso bisque, and the seared scallops, and I don't think I've had better versions of either in a decade. The scallops and the lobster were as tender as they could ever be and the flavors were amazing. Service and ambience is great too. They have wines by the glass that you normally must pay for a bottle - and a first rate twist on a Paper Plane if you're a cocktail person. Be sure to get a table by the window to watch the planes...“
“Everything I’ve tried from here has been amazingly flavorful! I can’t recall trying anything that I didn’t enjoy, but the beef curry udon is probably the best I’ve had from anywhere. You can tell how much hard work the family that runs this restaurant puts into making the dishes they serve. I will miss this place so much when I move away from Bernal Heights, but will definitely return if I’m in the area!“
“We tried the combo skewers, millionaire green bacon, and salted egg kombucha. Everything was tasty! It was pretty busy on a Friday night. There was a wait by 6:30pm, but food service was quick. They don’t serve alcohol currently, but you can BYOB for a small fee.“
“Tasty authentic ramen. Lovely staff. Serves alcohol, but it's not on the menu, so make sure you ask. Know that when you choose meat, you'll only get one type (i.e. fuku chicken karaage ramen does not come with pork from the base, which is not clear on the menu). Would come back again.“
“The veggie ramen was delicious! Friendly staff and fast service. I came for lunch during the week and was able to find street parking nearby. Lots of seating inside and a couple tables outside. I would come again if I'm ever in the area.“
“After a relatively short wait (max 30mins) I was seated in this lovely restaurant. All staff is very kind. I choose the chicken karaage (really good!! Tip!) and the chicken paitan ramen. The chicken in the ramen was a bit dry and it had thin noodles which are not my favorite (dont know of you can change that tbh). However, the broth was really good. Creamy, savoury, full of flavour! Slurped it all up!“
“Atmosphere was awesome, such great vibes. Food was delicious, high quality and very very well made. Obviously the sushi rolls were good, but the appetizers were awesome too!We came as a part of four, were seated immediately at the bar and had an awesome time enjoying wonderful food!“
“We made a reservation which cost $10 but we didn't make it in time so we missed our reservation but we were still able to be seated quickly. They were just two of us. On a Friday night..The vegan ramen was delicious and the rice pudding was as well.“
“Best chicken I've ever tasted must get the fried chicken and gyoza appetizer that comes yum yum sauce?? I had a beef short rib and teriyaki salmon bento box. The other two got the millionaire tonkotsu and the miso soup. The only reason I took one star out for the atmosphere was because the music was too loud where we were sitting.“
“YOU NEED TO EAT HERE!! Sorry for yelling (lol) but great sushi gets me excited! We arrived on a Thursday evening at 7:30 with a party of 3 and were greeted and seated right away. First to the table was the soft shell crab with a citrus-based special sauce. Crispy batter. Just what you expect. Next came the karaage. My family and I always say if the karaage is good, everything else will be and that proved true here at Au Sushi. Crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside served with a side of spicy mayo. And now onto the rolls! I can't even pick my favorite bc they were all absolutely delicious. Romantic roll, Double Toro roll, Hot King roll, Warriors roll, and last but not least the Diamond Heights roll. All were aesthetically beautiful and did not disappoint in the taste and texture department. The Chashu Ramen completed our meal. We will definitely be back and are very much looking forward to trying different rolls, different starters, some yakitori skewers, and one of the udons or donburi Thank you for the extremely enjoyable first experience at Au Sushi!“
“Quickest 5 start review I’ve given. I was so excited to find a place that specializes in beef broth ramen because I don’t eat pork and this did not disappoint. The broth was so rich and creamy I drank every last drop. Also the bone marrow was delicious and they’re very generous with it. The bone marrow piece I got was small so the staff brought out another complimentary one for me without asking. I’m excited to came again and try the spice ramen!“
“My husband and I tried this restaurant over the weekend during the celebrations for the cherry blossom festival. The service was great, very efficient and very friendly (especially given the crowds and how busy they were) the food was well presented and delicious (we tried two different ramen dishes and an appetizer and all items were very good!) and it was overall a great experience.“
“Everything was a 10/10 for our time here. From service, to quality, to price, to cleanliness, everything deserves praise. I found this place the night before, and upon reading the reviews, I determined this place was worth a shot. I booked a two person reservation for Saturday night at 6:30. The parking was easy and right upon entering, the host already knew my name. The place was fairly empty at 6:30 but began to pick up around 7:15. We ordered the cha shu ramen, the 10 piece Omakase, and the volando roll. Everything was put together with effort and 10/10 for taste. You can tell the omakase took a lot of effort, and my boyfriend opted to put caviar on 3/10 of his nigiri piece for $5 a pop. We loved the ramen, the fish and the roll all together. I thought it was really cute how the volcano roll was in the shape of a volcano, nice touch. The service was exceptional, with the waiters constantly refilling the beer and water and coming around to make sure everything is up to par. Such a good find, and we will be coming back to visit.“
“Totally empty on a Tuesday afternoon at lunch time, but that is not a bad thing. The food is pretty average fare, again not a bad thing. The curry with chicken and rice is pretty good. If you stop by, be sure to also stop on at the cable car museum a block over.“
“Food was delicious and interesting. I got a soup that had more of a curry broth, than a normal ramen broth, which was a nice change (they also have regular broths available.). Servings were a bit too large, I would have liked to have tried more dishes, but I was stuffed!“
“Very small restaurant with a large menu, we got the 3 item dinner box and it was an immense amount of food for $20/box. The tonkatsu and chicken katsu were good, salmon teriyaki was flavorful, and the veggie tempura were very good. Each set also comes with a small salad and miso soup. The only disappointment were the kaki fry, the oysters weren't very good but I didn't expect much. We got takeout but I can tell the inside can seat 4-6 people, and the service was nothing special. We would come back for a cheap lunch / dinner in the future.“
“Fairly spicy (if you order extra spicy) and generous portions. Like I ordered it with extra noodles and I had a second meal later. Also, the house sake is insanely cheap. The large was enough to share and it is was cheaper than an induvial drink at most restaurants.“
“New favorite ramen spot! We loved the signature soy sauce tori paitan - very rich soy sauce and black garlic base, and the slow braised chicken leg was so tender. My personal fav was the shio paitan - what’s better than a rare-find bowl of rich creamy chicken broth on a rainy evening! Plus very efficient service.“
“After just visiting Japan for two weeks I needed to get my Japanese curry fix. Menya's pork katsu curry was sooooo filling! Great value for the money, and maybe even too much food. Also it was delicious, and scratched that itch from my trip to Japan. The decor in the place is also pretty close to what I saw on my visit to Japan. Plus the menu has a LOT of ramen options, including some very spicy ones, so I'll definitely be back soon to try them out.“
“Upon our arrival at the restaurant, we were seated immediately without any wait. After taking our seats, a waiter presented us with water and menus. The restaurant offers the option to order food by scanning a QR code located on each table. Service throughout our visit was minimal but efficient, with our meals arriving promptly. Additionally, I appreciated the inclusion of two gender-neutral restrooms, which I found to be exceptionally clean—a detail I consider important when dining out.“
“Authentic ramen with a creative twist - serving curry and ramen in the same bowl! My friends got the curry ramen but I got the "California" ramen, basically a deconstructed sushi roll with crab, seaweed, avocado, and cucumber. Udon noodles had amazing texture, slimy but with a nice al dente bite.Didn't have to wait long on a Friday night, quick in and out.“
“Large portions and good flavor. Note, standard disclaimer for Japanese restaurants: I got the Kio Special Ramen ?️?️, order it extra spicy and it was medium at best. Definitely still enjoyable to eat though. Unusual for me, but the egg was actually really good, like the best egg I've ever had.“
“I actually don't care for their tonkotsu ramen...way too greasy. The chicken broth is much better. That said, despite "ramen" in their name, the yakitori is what steals the show. Love them all! The waitress takes her job seriously and goes above and beyond. Tip her extra!“
“Great place for absolute fire ? ramen! It's a little hole in the wall slightly across from the Curran theater. You better get there on their downtime as they get pretty busy, and they tend to have a pretty long wait time as they make most of their menu items on the fly. I tried their takoyaki and kaarage for apps, and they're pretty fire ? as well! Lastly, I ordered their chasiu ramen with mild spicy tonkotsu broth. It's perfect for a cold day at the city. But since the city is pretty cold and windy on average, then this stuff is perfect every day! Can't wait to come back and try their other menu options. Highly recommended ?“
“For a quick ramen craving, this is the spot. It's no frills, as you order at the counter and pick it up on your own. Kinda like mall food court style! However muuuch better quality than food court food. I will say it is more expensive that food court food though! Mensho ramen is always amazingly chewy and al dente, it's my favorite thing. I always appreciate that their vegan ramen is on par if not better than the meat option.“
“This is the only place in SF that has Gluten Free Ramen. The food was swell, and the service and ambiance were great! We dropped by before a movie at the Kabuki, and it was kinda dead. By the time we left, it was packed. We'll definitely be going back!Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating to gluten free dining. We were thrilled!“
“We like to come here when we are craving teppanyaki. I like to get the salmon pasta one with the teriyaki sauce. We also got salt and pepper tofu and curry fishballs. Both were delicious! This place also has a boba shop attached to it if you have that sweet craving afterwards. Minus one star bc I got the hot pot once here and it was very mid. I'll stick to that teppanyaki from now on“
“I got the gyoza ramen. They don't skimp on any of the ingredients and it came with 8 bite-size gyozas. The portion of the noodles is also generous. I didn't love the texture of the noodles though. They sell a lot of Korean soju bar eats for a reasonable price. It's almost half the price of some bar snacks in the south bay. I really liked the fried seaweed roll! Lots of alcohol options, sake jelly drinks, etc. and have a happy hour on weekdays. The place has a good vibe for drinking with a group of friends.“
“When you enter, it feels like a very traditional ramen shop with a nice atmosphere? The food choices and prices are good, and the service is available in both Chinese and English, so fellow compatriots don’t have to worry about blind spots when entering...Nice dining environment, not noisyVegetarian options: Support lacto-ovo-proteinKid-friendliness: The table next door is here. I have been here before the wedding. Today I think I am revisiting the old place. I brought back a pair of children.“
“Friendly staff and great noodle soup cooked to order.Vegetarian options: There's vegetarian soup with a vegetable broth. Also vegetarian appetizer option.Kid-friendliness: Welcoming to kids and they do pretty well with the noodle soup, especially when they can add or remove items to taste.“
“Excited to check off this ramen spot! We saw they do this duck truffle ramen on a 2022 menu posted in Google map. That seems to be gone now (we saw truffle ramen with no mention of duck). Anyway, we went for their tori paitan and chuuka men ramen. The broth was flavourful and the ramen texture was good. Can't really complain here.“
“Very good food in a charming place.I enjoyed all the food that was served to me from the starters to the main dishes.Even small regular starters like the Edamame were really really good and tasty. I also loved the fried chicken starter, served with a nice mayonnaise dressing on the side. The ramen itself was also very good.Everything was served in big portions, which we weren’t able to finish. The service was good, as the waiters were particularly helpful with our requests to replace ingredients with others that were not on the menu.“
“First visit after many deliveries for the fantastically rich tonkatsu during pandemic (I always got XXXtra spicy with fried shallots and extra egg). I did not know they had in-table barbecue - I was later informed that they merged with Camp from next door so basically we get best of both and a little more flexibility with the menu. I hosted some local relatives there who are mostly used to going to the usual areas of town for entertaining dining experiences so this was a nice departure from what can become a routine. The interactivity of doing your own grilling was such a hit and is probably best to do with 4+ people. Otherwise the Ramen is killer...“
“An excellent place to eat Japanese food in Union Square, it also has other branches nearby in the financial area and China town near Kearny. The delicious ramen, there is a variety, the last one I tried was the tofu one, very delicious. Variety of accompaniments. Very attentive staff. But it fills up and sometimes you have to wait outside and in the cold that it is in San Francisco. Highly recommended ramen.“
“We were hoping to taste the same ramen from Ippudo that we enjoyed in Japan, and this restaurant came closest to replicating that experience. The decor was beautiful, and the staff were professional. We thoroughly enjoyed our order and the overall experience. I definitely recommend it.“
“The veggie miso ramen has changed recipes and is not the same to the previous ownership. Devastated that I didn’t know the last time I had it would have been my last forever. I hope the new ownership does well here. But my search for my go to ramen spot sadly is beginning after tonight’s meal.Broth wasn’t hot enough. The entire dish tasted over salted. Positives: the new set up felt refreshing. The service was polite and welcoming.“
“Very good quality sushi and Ramen. Living in the Richmond area, we stumble across this sushi place just by chance.Really enjoyed the flavours of the ramen that we had.The sushi rolls were also quite impressive.Overall, we had a good experience here.“
“Superb! Honestly I was so impressed. I eat Ramen a lot. This ranks on top. I had the Tonkotsu with pork shoulder, medium spice & an Orion beer. Really excellent bowl of ramen all round. Nice generous portion of meat which tasted divine, beautiful seasoning on it! The egg also so flavorful & perfect texture. Definitely worth a visit if you are a looking for an above average Ramen experience.“
“Came here because I was craving some onigiri. I was confused s when I first walked in since the onigiri is not in the menu. I spoke with the friendly staff and they mentioned that all the Omusubi on the black board was the same as the onigiri. I was very excited to see all the options they had. I ordered a few for my partner and I to share and eat during the week. We got the spicy tuna, tuna, salmon, chashu pork, and the wakame. Each came warm to the touch. I really enjoyed the spicy tuna which is flavored with a spicy mayo. My favorite was the chashu pork. The pork was grilled and had a sweet flavor to eat bite. The tuna and salmon were good but need a little spice. And the wakame tasted like a seaweed salad which is pretty delicious. They also have little snacks you can purchase. They had a variety of chips my partner and I were curious to try. Staff is very friendly and very helpful. I def wanna come back and try more items on the menu.“
“We really wanted to stop by to try their Tsukemen but the hours were tough with a baby/early bedtime. They open pretty much for dinner and some days they do have lunch hours. We weren't going to miss out so we decided to Door Dash their ramen to the hotel to eat while baby sleeps. We were glad we did because even though the ramen wasn't fresh, it was still delicious. Thick ramen noodles, thick and hearty broth to dip the noodles in. The chasu was flavored and a good size. They only give you half an egg which is disappointing considering it's $20 a bowl. Definitely recommending trying this place out for their tsukemen. We would love to return and actually try it in house.“
“This is such a cute restaurant in the city!! Definitely one of best Thai food spots I've been to in a while. The ambiance is visually beautiful and great for date nights or small gatherings. A little understaffed during busy dinner time, but we also came at the same time as many other tables. Here's what I tried:+ Panang Curry with Pork (5/5): SO GOOD! Great portions. If you love your curry with a strong coconut creaminess, this is THE DISH you need to try. Great flavor, not spicy at all - and the pork in this was amazing! Tender, flavorful, and sliced thinly. A must try!+ Khao Mun Gai (2/5): Pretty disappointed by this one. The chicken thighs were SO DRY! Even with the sauce (which was great), the chicken was dry. Even the chicken rice was clumpy and not very flavorful either.+ Aloha Fried Rice (5/5): No complaints here! A good balance between all the flavors. Pineapple wasn't too overpowering and the shrimp were huge! I liked the cashews and raisins surprisingly, and the presentation was very cute.“
“I can't believe I haven't been to this place in about a decade! That's only a testament to the fact that we have so much great food in the city and not a reflection upon this restaurant because it's still fantastic. A great mix of food to share, including raw bar, yakitori, salads and vegetables, and ramen. Tried a little bit of almost everything but sadly our eyes were bigger than our mouths. We'll just have to come back again soon!“
“Came here for a catch up session with a friend who moved to Mexico that was craving sushi. It was empty on a Weds (which we preferred), the selection, deals and quality were AMAZING and fresh! Our server was extremely attentive and the portions were PERFECT!“
“Delicious Ramen and wonderful attentive and helpful service team. They were on point with everything. Curry was something I wasn’t expecting and I LOVED IT! Atmosphere is casual and welcoming. 100% recommend and will be returning in the future.“
“Some of the best Thai food I've had recently. The pad gra pao was so flavorful and I loved the soft and tender kabocha squash in the kabocha curry. The "sun rice" that was served with the curry was delicious. Service was pretty fast for weekday lunch, but I've seen this place get very busy for dinner. Cozy ambiance in the restaurant with the pretty wall art and plants. I would definitely come back again!“
“Mensho Tokyo SF offers a unique experience in the heart of San Francisco, elevating the classic ramen to an exquisite level. Upon entering, guests are welcomed into a minimalist yet warm space, where the focus is clearly on the culinary art of ramen making. The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Tori Paitan ramen. The broth is rich and creamy, a result of meticulous simmering that draws out the deep flavors of chicken bones. It’s silky yet intensely flavorful, serving as the perfect base for the perfectly cooked, springy noodles.Mensho also excels in its vegetarian offerings, particularly the Tomato ramen, which presents a novel twist on traditional flavors with a broth that’s both tangy and savory, topped with a generous slice of cheese that melts into the hot soup. The attention to detail extends to their service, which is both efficient and courteous, making the dining experience seamless from start to finish. In conclusion, Mensho Tokyo SF is a must-visit for both ramen enthusiasts and novices alike, offering a thoughtful blend of traditional techniques and innovative flavors that push the boundaries of this beloved dish.“
