“Amazing! That’s all that needs to be said. See you next visit!”
“Absolutely delicious, we cleaned our plates ☺️ we got the chicken and beef brisket plates and they were both fresh and perfectly balanced. The pomegranate matcha latte was excellent as well.
ETA: the food was so good we also got a shawarma wrap to share. It was SO good; I usually hate dill but these chefs are such experts that it actually complemented the flavors of the wrap and I found myself enjoying the flavor of dill for the first time in my life 😆”
“This restaurant is amazing. Definitely worth visiting. Small and romantic. And the food..... Fantastic. I visited from out of town, had a late lunch. This is a place worth going to. The staff is warm and welcoming. I would definitely come back.”
“great service! delicious, authentic Oaxacan food. We will go back!”

“I love LOVE my bimonthly subscription to flowers from Flower Bar! They make such beautiful and elegant arrangements that are seasonally deliberate and make me feel so happy every time I see them!”
“Small but wonderful little sushi place! Place looks unassuming and like a standard sushi joint but you have to try their Peruvian style sashimi! Each piece of fish has its own unique sauce and it was all really delicious. The orange sauce which was also on some rolls is so bright and delicious!
Staff was super sweet and service was fast.
Definitely worth trying!”

“As a Brazilian I can say without a doubt this is the most authentic Brazilian food you'll get in Santa Cruz. Excellent staff/ service, yummy traditional Brazilian dishes, amazing appetizers, excellent selection of drinks and oh may the deserts!!!! This place rocks and will hopefully be with us for a very long time. Family owned.”
“A delicious and somewhat tucked away spot.
I always drive by good dogs on my way to and from my job. It closes right when I get off. I had the time to go today and it was well worth the visit.
The dogs are delicious the airstream trailer is adorable and he's both polite, willing to chat, and fast.
If you want to stop by there is only one parking spot. I'd recommend parking by Santa Cruz tire and auto and walking over. There is some good seating.
I'm definitely going back and bring my friend and coworkers along.”

“This is my favorite booth at SAP when I go to Sharks games. You can see the arepas being grilled fresh and the fillings are so flavorful. The owners are very welcoming. I’m looking forward to the opening of their San Jose location since I haven’t been able to make it to Santa Cruz.”

“Delicious and fast service. Coffee wasn't the best but the free refills were great.
The real standout was the Sourdough pancakes. I got them with seasonal fruit and whipped cream (bananas and walnuts this week) and splurged on real maple syrup. Super delicious and reasonably priced.”
“Our family returned to Santa Cruz for a visit and we found Lilian's kitchen! We enjoyed a delicious meal(we are 6) our kids enjoyed their meals and we enjoyed a lovely glass of wine and a perfect atmosphere. The staff was kind and attentive, prompt service and there details on our food that are often overlooked on other tourist town restaurants...not Lillian's! A must was the tiramisu with coffee after dinner....I am in love❤️❤️”

“My family and I stopped in for lunch, and we were really impressed. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome. The restaurant was spotless and had a comfortable atmosphere. The portions were generous for the price, and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We loved that you can customize your flavors and spice levels, and the meals came with rice and wontons included. Highly recommend this spot if you’re in Santa Cruz, we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town!”

“Awesome tasting here! Recommend sitting at the bar, John was really great to chat with and really passionate about his wines. Came on a Wednesday when the market was on right outside and he was cool with me bringing oysters in. Such a fun space, full of personality, so would be nice for a glass or a catch up as well. 10/10 experience :)”
“I will be back! Did the $25 mixed tasting and got to try a variety of wines based on what I liked. Also got to purchase some of their Hawaiian coffee! Was a chill vibe and they had a very welcoming and friendly staff. Will be back to try more of their wines 🥂 great patio that’s dog friendly.”

“We only started eating at McDonalds about a year ago when we were traveling. Over that time, one of the things we have noticed is the food is fairly consistent in quality and taste. So, what sets one McDonalds apart from another one? The customer service!
We found the employees here, to be very nice! At a lot of McDonalds, they try to avoid taking your order and point you to a kiosk. Not at this one! When we walked in, there was someone who came over to the register and asked us what we would like. Quite refreshing!
Also, they were really busy, and the empty tables were dirty. So, we went over and asked for a towel to clean one, and the employee (we think the manager) came right over and cleaned it for us. They also went and cleaned others tables after ours, which we didn't expect.
Overall, the food is what you would expect from a McDonalds, but the service is great”
“Usual food. They don't have a drive thru, and the inside is very small. Stood at counter waiting to be helped for 5-10 minutes, getting looked at by many employees, before someone finally came to take my order. Stood at counter cause there was a big line for the kiosk. Food served relatively quickly. Lady who took order was nice.”
“The staff is amazing! The food is amazingly fresh and flavorful. Hands down this Restaurant was a huge highlight of our vacation. Thank you for an awesome dinner, and making us feel right at home!”

“I love my family member, but they don't use DoorDash and request I DoorDash for them. This is great, except not always, as you can imagine - especially because they can be picky with their add-ons. Which is why I'm writing this review: because Gilman's CAME THROUGH this Thursday night.
My loved one wanted a burger, and I think Gilman's Smashburger is one of the best in Santa Cruz. They're on DoorDash, so I recommended it as an option. My loved one said that sounded great, with two requests: NO sauce, and NO cheese.
Unfortunately, on Gilman's DoorDash menu, you can't request no cheese, and they don't allow for written requests (which is so valid). And as we all know, just because you select "No [Ingredient]" doesn't mean it'll actually come without the despised ingredient.
So, I had to pick up the phone and call Gilman's to make my special request. Reminder: They don't even allow written requests. I CALLED IN a request. The shame was nearly unbearable.
However, Koa was a total homie and got my name before I sent in my order. Koa then confirmed with the chef, Adan, that there would be no cheese and no sauce on the burger. Koa was kind, friendly, and didn't make a single sigh of frustration at my request. THE RELIEF I FELT: immeasurable.
The burger arrived without sauce, and without cheese. My loved one was THRILLED, and I was able to avoid dealing with DoorDash support/refunds/etc.
Not only are you getting the best burger in town when you order from Gilman's, you're getting amazing customer service as well. 10/10, five-stars. THANK YOU Koa and Adan! You've made my life easy. Customer for life over here.”
“I really enjoyed this place. as a long time strict vegan, they answered questions kindly, and in ways I felt good to eat here. I had a lovely little chop salad, that really hit right as I was in need of vegetables.😄Followed it up with Tom’s Bright Eyes Surprise that was nice.”
“Delicious food, kind servers, true authentic Mexican food. No hassle, no frills - so far, I've had the Siete Mares and Pescado Fritos and both were the best I've tasted in all of Santa Cruz County. I got my order as To Go so the atmosphere I didn't really get into but there were people there enjoying their food and sports on TV. A nice surprise.”
“Best BBQ in Santa Cruz. Craft Beers and Live Music. Friendly staff.”

“I don’t understand how an amazing coffee shop can, at there discretion, close there coffee shop at any time they want? Why would u treat loyal customers this way. Sometimes posted in Instagram, sometimes not. So inconsiderate of daily customers. Very disappointing to walk all the way there, excited for my greeting from the staff and my great latte, only to find a note on the door, closed at 11:30? How can u feel good about people showing up and not open and it isn’t even close to 3:00? Confusing to me how everything else but this one issue can be perfect?”
“I live around the corner from here and like to recommend this spot to friends whenever they're visiting my neighborhood. The vibes are great.
There is a bartender named Mayonnaise and she's the coolest person in the world.”
“Stumbled on this little oasis while walking the ‘mean streets’ of Santa Cruz. All kinds of flavors and friendliness here. Wouldn’t surprise me to see a banana slug flavor! There’s outdoor seating to enjoy your cone or cup in the sun. My kid loved his double dark chocolate.
Grok says:
The Penny Ice Creamery is a beloved artisan ice cream shop in Santa Cruz, California, renowned for crafting small-batch ice cream, sorbets, and treats entirely from scratch using local, organic, and seasonal ingredients sourced from nearby farmers, ranchers, and foragers. Founded in 2010 by chef Kendra Baker—a UCSC alum with a passion for sustainable, farm-fresh desserts—and her partner Zachary E. Davis, it’s the only ice creamery in Santa Cruz (and one of the few in Northern California) with its own on-site dairy processing equipment, allowing full control from pasteurization to churning without pre-made bases, stabilizers, or preservatives. This commitment to sustainability extends to using 100% recycled, biocompostable packaging and even repurposing egg whites from their custard base into daily-made marshmallow meringue (torched fluff topping). Flavors rotate frequently, blending classic comforts with adventurous twists inspired by the Central Coast’s bounty—think wild-foraged herbs from the Santa Cruz Mountains or produce from local farms. It’s expanded from a single downtown spot to multiple locations, including recent Bay Area outposts, while maintaining a hippie-rooted, community-focused vibe that earned it a shoutout from Vice President Joe Biden in 2010 for its local impact.”
“Great coffee, friendly environment with lots of indoor and outdoor seating, Wi-Fi, and a nice environment to study or chat. Part of the nearby church but you don't have to worry about it being uncomfortable in some way because of that, they seem to do a good job of being very welcoming and chill. This spot has an abundance of space which is very nice. The food I tried was nice too but I only had a little bite so I can't review that too.”
“This is always my goto coffee shop when in Santa Cruz. The Americano (or any other coffee we get) is always on point. The bagels... Ohhhhh the bagels. You have to try for yourself but they are always fresh and amazing. Go check it out! You will not regret it.”
“We were there for a music event late Jan 2025. HH drink specials were tasty but was disappointed on how cold it was inside the restaurant. Both doors, front & back, were wide open during the entire evening show (48 degrees outside). Even the band mentioned how cold it was before beginning their set. All the customers wore jackets. Also, the harsh lighting was way too bright throughout the restaurant. I wanted my sunglasses on. Please read the room & tone down the lighting & warm the place up, then we’ll be back. Mahalo”
“food, fantastic, service, fantastic, quality, fantastic, you need to experience this place to truly understand how great this place is. thanks Alfredo!!!!”
“Over in San Francisco from Perth Australia and popped in for a couple of beers, awesome spot and great beers, staff were super friendly and even grabbed some merch, get yourselves over and support these guys and have a cracking pint or four”

“We tried this spot for the first time this morning and it did not disappoint! The owner, Tram was so warm and welcoming — you can tell she pours love into the space.
We had the Bella Bon Bon (tasty and not too sweet) and the Sua Da — strong Vietnamese coffee that gave us the boost we needed! We also tried two pastries: the beef and chorizo one was incredibly flaky with a slightly sweet, seasoned to perfection— 10/10. And the pâte à choux was packed with flavor and so satisfying.
The space is open and beautifully decorated with cool art, Vietnamese hip-hop playing, and a big cozy couch tucked in the back. Tram chatted with us for a while — super sweet and genuine person and we wish this small business many blessings.
Definitely planning to come back soon!”
“Ive been working in restaurant as for about 4 years. Cafe Brasil is one of the best brunch/breakfast I’ve ever had! The place is a beautiful Brazil styled Cafe. I started with one of their green smoothies and it was just what I needed after a long night out. Then I ordered one of their chicken plates and it comes with beans, rice and fries or side salad all at a really reasonable price. Everyrthing was delicious and my Brothers and I loved everything. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a good breakfast or smoothie place.”
“My buddy and I spent the day riding Mt Bikes in Santa Cruz. I’m not completely sure where we were riding but it was just above the ocean and we eventually rode past an area growing huge brussell sprouts. And we got to witness another biker crash into a huge puddle so the day was very entertaining. Before driving home we stopped for a bite at Jacks and it’s the perfect local burger joint in Santa Cruz. If I lived here, I’d come to Jacks all the time. The fries are great, the burgers are great and the ambiance is perfect. We sat outside and felt our day could not have gone better.”
“This was honestly the best food truck food I have ever had. I eat healthy all week, but I know when I go to a brewery on a weekend, I’m gonna have to make some compromises! No compromises had to be made for this food, as they had tons of healthy options! But healthy doesn’t always mean delicious, but this place was truly some of the most delicious food I had ever had at a brewery! (Humble Sea beer garden on the Santa Cruz wharf) I'll search out this food truck anytime I'm back in the Santa Cruz area.
Vegetarian options: Absolutely delicious!”
“Lots of food to choose from. A good family place as everyone can get different items. We went on a Friday and they had live music. Lots of people but we still found seating without a problem. Had a portobello mushroom burger and fries. Very good. No table serve. You get called for pick up.”
“Love the fish and chips along with a new favorite… chicken pozole soup. Need some radish and cabbage to top it off!”
“We had our wedding after-party at Mission West, with dancing and a DJ on the back patio. It was the best decision we could have possibly made. From our perspective, there were zero flaws. The venue has such outstanding vibes, great ownership and staff who run the bar very well and are a delight to work with. Our friends had the best time and it felt like every idea we had they were able to make happen. We were so stoked to support what they have going on there and have since recommended Mission West to a friend who is also going to have their wedding after party there. The cocktails are also very good! Whether you’re just stopping by for a drink or hosting an event, this place is a gem!”
“Great food, excellent service and inviting atmosphere. Whether getting take out or dining in the food is always good, and you get a lot of high quality food for your money. The staff are friendly, and ordering is fairly straight forward but you will need a phone. Having pictures of the dishes though is incredibly helpful, and I didn't notice anyone struggling to order with this system. Great for a going out with family or friends or grabbing a dish for yourself!”

“This was our first time there and the food was great and the atmosphere was great.. also had great service. We will be back again..”
“Great scone mixes - even my BIL now likes scones! Very fast delivery (I live out of state) for mixes. The Lemon Curd is delicious - on top of scones or licked off of a spoon.”
“Love Hindquarter! Been going for many years mostly for dinner/drinks but am now also loving their delicious lunch specials which change daily. You can enjoy lunch specials until dinner menu starts at 4 pm! Deserts are great and the 3 berry cobbler with vanilla icecream is incredible! Highly recommend!”
“Went here for a date night recently. We should up earlier to our reservation and they were able to accommodate us pretty quickly which was great.
The service was top notch. I believe our server was Brenda and she was excellent. Always checking in on us and being prompt. She was also sure of getting any dietary issues handled.
We had some mocktails and found them delicious.
The calamari is one of my favorites so far in Santa Cruz. Very nicely seasoned and cooked just right, I'd like it to be a little more flaky but the taste was superb. Not tough nor feeling a little on the bland side.
I had the ribeye and while the precise cut wasn't my preferred choice it was delicious. It was cooked perfectly, don't know why so many places can't get Medium right, but the Point executed it perfectly. It was juicy, good bits of fat (wish it had a bit more fat though), and seasoned well. I think it had a really subtle glaze that went perfectly with the arugula. The glaze wasn't overpowering or too sweet, it just enhanced the umami flavored and the arugula was also not too overpowering, so you can actually taste the beef.
My wife had the Salmon and thought it was great. It was a nice big cut and cooked very well.
Overall it was a great experience and great food. Our server, Brenda, was superb and that's something you just can't get anywhere anymore.
We saw in the area with the older style red leather seats and this is the only part that I didn't like too much. The decor just clashed and it felt difficult to get a sense of ambience. I saw the other side has the nicer updated look and I'd probably prefer seating there but I think given the fair prices and the location, I don't think it was that bad.
Overall I'd probably give this place a 4.5, for the update the dining area needs but given the terrific service and delicious well priced food I'd say a 5 is justified.”
“Clean, quiet Laundromat. A bit pricey, but so is everything in Santa Cruz. There is no cafe though, but it's across the street from a great Mex restaurant 😁”
“Very personal experience with amazing selection of wine and cider. The building serves both Sones cellars and Tanuki Cider but the owner serving us had great knowledge in both. The owner saw us looking at the menu outside of business hours and invited us in for some Santa Cruz history and delicious tasting. His knowledge and appreciation of cider and wine was superb. It will be a repeat visit when we are in the area and a recommendation for anyone heading this direction.”
“This place is super fun since they banned smoking! They have darts, pool, shuffleboard, pinball, other activities, friendly people, and the drinks are solid. One of the regulars helped my friends and I change a flat tire in the parking lot 😂 very welcoming crowd!”
“Great new brewery! Brad is first class and will provide some wonderful quaffing liquids!”
“great service and awesome views. happy hour was great, margaritas. the fish and chips were delicious 😋”
“Amazing food. Exquisite taste expertly prepared. The wait staff is so attentive and friendly. Loved everything from start to finish!”
“We stopped in on October 11 during happy hour. Being from Michigan, we did not know what to expect. Our daughter, now an Aptos resident, said this was her favorite place for sushi. We could see why! The flavors and variety of items were excellent. Best of all was our server Isabell. She was great; friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Great food, great service. Thank you.”
“Stopped in for a quick brunch and the food was very delicious, by far the best buttered chicken and garlic naan I have had. Highly recommend! I left very happy and satisfied.”
“HIDDEN GEM Best ever! So you HAVE to give this place a try! Alex was our server tonight. She was excellent. Food was amazing. Prices fantastic. Choose over Akira all day long, no wait ... reservations for party larger than 4 but sushi bar is stellar!”
“The sushi was so good the pink Dragon was beautifully decorated and so fresh and so tasty and the atmosphere was beautiful I celebrated a friend's birthday there!”
“Great outdoor atmosphere and Great staff. Fun games and Good Eats. Neighborhood friendly and with the Rail Trail on the side makes it easy to bike or walk to. SALUTE!”
“Delicious jackfruit tacos. Great for vegetarian, vegan. And one of the only places to get gluten free. We asked and the chips are gluten free although I'm not sure about cross contamination but no reaction. Chips and guacamole make a meal though in a pinch”
“It’s fun for the whole family. Different experience than Golfland.”
“Love coming to Haggin Oaks to visit MacKenzie’s for the food. Steak salad is the healthy option for me. Ribeye steak sandwich is also a great choice. My wife always appreciates the wonderful service that Tresa provides. Yes, menu prices are higher, but blame it on Dimensia Joe and our own failure, Gavin Newscum for making it tough for any business to survive in beautiful California.”
“I love The Boardwalk. It's always a good time over there. Everything about a beach town is always fun. Such an amazing vibe everytime I go.”
“Visiting SC from Michigan and came across Suda. Glad we did. Looked like it had a good vibe from the outside so we went in and sat at the bar where we had drinks. What fun! The bartender, Max, was slammed but never stopped smiling. We had fun watching him and talking with him. He knows his drinks! So much fun we came back for dinner another night. Max came over to our table to welcome us back! The drinks and food were really good! We’ll definitely be back next visit to SC. Hopefully, Max, will be there too!”
“The food was outstanding, we had the one of the daily specials and our server was very friendly.”
“I wrote a detailed review on 831 Best and Worst Facebook page and this was definitely the BEST category ! Cannot go wrong IMO !”
“This place is great. The food was delicious and they have a great drink selection… wife loved the pomegranate mimosas. The shrimp and grits are filling and flavorful. Been down in this area a lot and didn’t know this place existed. They should advertise more because this place is a standout.”
“Food is honestly delicious, a lot better than expected. The tacos are great, they hit the spot right after bowling. Took a little while but it was only 1 hard working man! He had great energy and provided great customer service. Would definitely come again!”
“Dogs welcome outside to eat. Service dogs can go inside. Very good food and very friendly staff. Live sports inside and outside.”
“The food was outstanding, we had the one of the daily specials and our server was very friendly.”
“Amazing food and great staff! Their hand made Boba is the best I have ever tasted! Everything tastes very fresh. Does not disappoint. Owners help rescue homeless animals too!”
“this place is super to eat and have a nice time the food is very good Ariana is very kind in taking care of us thank you 💯”
“Love this place. Cocktails and nachos at the bar with friends last night. I hadn’t been there in a while, great to see all the same people working there. Great local place.”
“It's good, pretty average as far as the UCSC dining halls go. It does stink like sewage outside, which is off putting.
Vegetarian options: Same as everywhere else on campus. Clearly labeled options.”
“Very fresh sushi and for the price it's very good! Definitely recommend coming in”
“Amazing food! Friendly service! You’ve got to see the Waterfall at the bar on Friday and Saturday evenings. Sake bombs for everyone!”
“We had a delicious meal with views of the pool on one side and the gorgeous lobby on the other. The food was very good, and the details of the design of the whole place were inspiring. We had refreshing cocktails and thoroughly pleasant experience.”
“Gilda’s at Santa Cruz Beach is a charming brunch spot with a nostalgic diner feel and a breezy view of the boardwalk, perfect for a relaxed weekend meal. The vibe is casual yet lively, with additional counter seating and the aroma of sizzling breakfast classics filling the air. Their new tomato juice and Modelo beer combo is a refreshing, savory sip that pairs surprisingly well with a late-morning feast, while the classic Bloody Mary is dressed to impress with olives, celery, lime, and a pepperoncini kick.
The food hits all the right comfort notes—crispy, golden-brown hash browns cooked to perfection, a light and fluffy Belgian waffle piled high with fresh strawberries and a dollop of creamy butter, and all the usual breakfast favorites served hot and hearty. It’s the kind of place where you can fuel up for a day on the beach while indulging in a little extra flavor adventure.”
“The Thanksgiving buffet( 1230pm reservation) was beautifully executed. There was perfectly cooked prime rib, turkey and roast lamb. That in itself makes the dinner a win. There was a fish selection of poke, crab, oysters and shrimp and the sides were plentiful. One could choose breakfast items if so inclined. Desserts were good with a massive selection of choice. I lean to saying the carrot cake was one of the better I've ever had as it was not cloyingly sweet. The icing wasn't typical cream cheese but it was good. The staff was attentive. The entire hotel staff was pleasant. It's a hectic day for staff but they didn't show it. A relatively insignificant thing was the coffee was cold. I'm sure if I pointed it out it, a new pot would've arrived. I just switched to tea. If the price stays more or less on point, we may have found a new family tradition for 4. Congratulations to Chaminade.”

“Nina ROCKS!!! We wandered in on a whim and she did not disappoint! This place is the best little dive/ hip spot but you’d never imagine just walking by. The atmosphere is chill and fun, she made us feel completely welcome and we met some of the regulars. She turned the whole place into a Karaoke party and the whole bar got into the vibe. We ended up staying until the next shift came on and late into the night. These guys and gals really know how to show you a good time. The cocktails were great and the prices were really decent. We will definitely be back!”

“So because of one employee the tall blond with long hair seams to think he's going to decide who gets to buy herb, I had left a review about this guy's discriminating and attacked me. The manager talked to me and she is punishing the crap employee for his unprofessional attitude so I'll give you 5 star just for addressing the problem. He should of been fired since he does it to everyone and coworkers say he does these things to them too. But everyone deserves a chance, he treats me again like that and I'm not giving a review I'm going to my attorney. Thank you management, it no good have one person making a nice dispensary look like crap.”
“I live around the corner from Garden Deli, where Reuben's Taco Truck is located {except when he has a catering an event}. I ignored it for a couple months, thinking the food would be marginal at best. Then I was feeling lazy, so walked over and got dinner, expecting to be underwhelmed. OMG!! I was so effing wrong. Their food is So Fricking Good that I've gotten dinner there almost once a week ever since!!”
