“We really enjoyed our experience at Kimika. The cocktails were amazing - unique with great flavors. I loved the kaga milk punch, shishitorita and the unami in kenmare.Dishes are a fusion of Japanese flavors in Italian style dishes, such as the sticky rice arancini served on a Japanese curry sauce. Other menu highlights were the tuna tartare, hamachi collar, truffle carbonara, rigatoni, and the steak.Dont miss the yakult soft serve for dessert!Staff were very friendly and helpful with recommendations.We were seated in a back room which felt private with so much space on the large tables.“

“This place was both FUN and DELICIOUS. It almost feels like you're walking into a speakeasy, and the staff greet you like you're about to party with them all night (and you truly do). I didn't know what to expect going in, but you really are partying while enjoying fine dining- a rare combo! They have unlimited sake shots, and I truly mean unlimited. As soon as one chef noticed my cup was empty he was ready to pour me another. The staff were dancing, singing, and making delicious food all at once. If you're not a sake fan, don't worry- they give you water and still make you feel like you're a part of the party. Would return again for occasions like a girls night out or a fun birthday dinner!“

“We started off with some tasty cocktails: A Japanese twist on a margarita and an amazing whiskey-based pink one (the name escapes me but it was truly unique and delicious. We had their rendition of a Caeser salad, which was enormous. The deep fried burrata was also quite big… and truly unique and scrumptious. I could have drank the cheesy broth all night. The fried hen was nice. The black cod was as well. The sticky pudding with lime ice cream dessert was massive, but the two of us managed. Also - get the potatoes…. A great compliment to everything.“

“I LOVE Ishi so much... This was my favorite omakase experience in NYC! Brought my parents here for their anniversary and their first ever Omakase.The ambiance is lovely. The interior is warm, inviting and intimate. Staff is very welcoming.The food is AMAZING and high quality. Every single piece was delicious and we were so impressed. I will definitely be back. There are so many great omakase places in NYC but this was the first that made me want to revisit even without a special occasion to celebrate.Thank you to the team at Ishi for such a wonderful experience!“

“I heard that Tonchin is difficult to get walk-ins for, so I was really excited to get a reservation here. There was a long line of walk-ins when we arrived for our 12pm reservation. The restaurant has a cool modern vibe and good service. Overall there were some things I liked, but nothing was particularly memorable.The kimchi mushroom ($8) was meh and not worth the cost. It was very small, cold, and sour -- just hard strips of oyster mushroom in a chili oil/vinegar flavor. I didn't taste the kimchi flavor.The original maguro ($27) was very good. Lots of great flavors and textures, and everything was cut to the same size. I enjoyed the crunchy bits.The tebasaki ($18 for 6 pieces) had quite big and tender wings. The drumettes had more flavor and sauciness. This wasn't a must-get, but it was decent.The smoked dashi ramen ($22) definitely lived up to its name. It was a rich but not overly heavy pork broth with smoked dashi liquid on top. It was good but not amazing. I didn't love that the bamboo was in a big chunk, which made it hard to eat. The noodles are nothing special. I felt similarly about the tonkotsu ramen.I got the aka drink ($18) which was pretty good -- very floral and good sweetness. It wasn't that big, though -- it had a giant ice block in it.Overall the restaurant has a nice vibe and the food is quick to come out, but nothing would make me come back. The maguro was definitely the highlight.“

“Visiting from London with a friend, came across this omakase place for a birthday dinner! It was also the chef’s birthday (and I pass my regards for how great the food was). Hugely impressed by the food especially for such an affordable omakase experience, and especially the service which was easy and friendly, and catered for my friend’s birthday so well. “I took my wife on a date night yesterday. We like fine food and have had some amazing experiences around the world .several Michelin restaurants. First of all our waiter Julio took us on a journey through his description of the food and Sake . Julio paired every meal like painter does color . His direction was outstanding and the food followed with such complexity and fun . We will be back again and again and again . Ask for Julio he paints before the pigments hits the canvas . “This omakase spot does a well thought out 14 course that includes everything - from apps to nigiri to desserts at an affordable price. What I really enjoyed about Sushi Yolo compared to other omakase spots in this price range is how it’s nicely paced with your entire meal spanning 1.5 hours (other spots are usually churning out guests within 1 hour).As I said before, all the dishes were so well thought out and the pieces that were presented were so beautiful. My absolute favorite was their steamed egg topped with ikura and uni - it was so warm, smooth, and custard-y with the ikura and uni providing the perfect umami balance.As expected, service was amazing and Alex, the host, was so thoughtful to offer me tea throughout my meal as I was the only one in my party who was not partaking in sake.Highly recommend for a date night or a fun outing with a group of friends.“

“Came here for a surprise birthday lunch. Menu: Shrimp head Shrimp Mushroom Fish with the bones (?) Snow Crab with Shiso Leaf Brussel Sprout with Seaweed(?) Scallop Snow pea & Baby Onion Flying fish Lotus Anago Tendon with miso Wasn't incredibly oily at the end of everything, I had a beer to go with my meal as a palette cleanser. Service was great, showed great attention to customers. Chefs were attentive, and notice when you want a good video shot at the whole frying process and try not to ruin your video. As a small extra birthday surprise, added a nice large strawberry with a mochi ice cream. Great experience, would love to try again someday.“

“I think this place is great. Especially for a date night too. The Temaki they serve is great for a 2 bite situation, making it really easy to share between 2… if that’s your thing.To be honest, coming here and getting the classic & signature is just as $ as getting delivery sushi, maybe a bit more expensive but it’s worth it. High quality ingredients & thought out flavors.Personal favorite temaki is the XO scallop.The whole entire restaurant is gluten free by the way, so that might win a lot of people over.The interior & vibe is definitely for a certain demographic and will become aged out within maybe a year or two. The interior is on the same note of that Tend instagram dentist place, and that’s not a compliment. The music they play reminds me of what they would play at like a retail store.Dietary restrictions: The entire restaurant is gluten free & can help gluten intolerance with their meal.“

“Even on limited time, I make it a priority to visit PLANTA whenever we're in the same city. I walked here from the Empire State Building, and it was bustling on a Saturday evening. I happily sat at the bar. FIRECRACKER ROLL This was on their April exclusive menu. Filled with Japanese sweet potato, avocado, unagi, and topped with gochujang mayo & chili salt. DELICIOUS! It deserves to be a staple menu item. TORCHED AND PRESSED One of my go-to menu items. This roll is so melt-in-your-mouth creamy. I drool every time. I even convinced some girls sitting at the bar to order this roll. BANG BANG BROCCOLI My numero uno go-to dish since I visited the SOBE location a few years ago. Will never not order this. Crunchy. Flavorful. Amazing in every way. As they were leaving, a couple asked me about this dish and I let them each have one floret. They were sold! (Not all PLANTAs have the same dishes, but luckily, two of my favs have been at all the ones I've visited: FL, CA, IL, & NY.) TRUFFLE RICE I tend to avoid the main dishes and stick with starters and sushi, but I wanted to try something different. Unfortunately, I should've followed my instincts. It had a nice flavor to it, but it was dry and the rice was overcooked. Disappointing. There was so much potential with the cumulation of ingredients. As a PLANTA Passport holder who doesn't live near a PLANTA, I was excited to be able to use my birthday reward - a free dessert! But they didn't have my fav available- the giant chocolate chip cookie, so I ended up passing on dessert. Service was great. As busy as he was, he kept my water glass filled. The worst part about my visit is that I rushed out to catch my Uber back to Brooklyn and left my leftovers on the counter. I may have shed a tear about it. Tip: there are outlets and hooks at the bar.“

“Had the best introverted time at KazuNori! I finally arrived in NYC after a 5 hour flight and 1.5 hours Uber to my hotel. After checking in and dropping off my stuff, I was starving! Thankfully, this place was a 3 minute walk away. I walked in and was immediately seated as a party of 1 in the corner of their bar seating. Awesome ambience with low light for intimacy with yourself or your companion. I ordered their 6 hand roll set for $34 and it was well worth the money. The chef goes at your pace, but it's best to each hand roll asap as it's so warm because of fresh rice. Each roll was filling and amazing to finish; my personal favorite was the bay scallop roll. I was done within 15-20 minutes, and KazuNori checked off all the boxes from speed, quality of customer service, and great food quality. Would come here again and definitely recommend!“

“If you happen to be around Brooklyn and have about an half hour or an hour to spend, I would definitely recommend this place.It's close to the subway.This is a very eye opening place to visit if you are interested in dashi in general. The store has variety of dashi for you to try (also vegan options) and also allows you to create your own, which is super fun and educational.They have a lot of imported japanese products + meal, which could be a bit pricy; however, consider you dont have to fly to Japan to get them, they are acceptable and worth try at least once.The atmosphere is super nice. Nice lighting/furnitures and everything. The staffs were also super informative and could help you in a lot in making decisions toward unending dashi ingredients.“

“A delightful little yakitori restaurant. It was great we didn’t smell like the food when we left since we had regular seating. It would be cool to watch them cook but we had kids with us. It’s great that you can tell them you’re not into weird pieces like hearts and organs and they’ll substitute. The different pieces, though mostly chicken, all had different tastes. We brought our kids that can’t finish an entire omakase. We thought we could get a la carte for them but they won’t let you order just a la carte despite the two adults ordering a la carte. We enjoyed our meal here.“

“We arrived to Kimura 10min before opening on a weekend and there were 3 parties in front of us in line. They opened on time and there were no issues getting seated, with no reservation, but we were seated in the backyard heated room. Our waiter and the staff there were polite and friendly. Everything we ordered was flavorful and delicious. Only complaint was I wish portion size was bigger. Haha. Beef tongue slices (5pcs) $14 - marinated grilled tender slices Yuzu Miso Salmon $15 - Includes fresh salmon sashimi topped with yuzu miso and sesame ponzu sauce, green onion and onion slices Hakata Motsu Nabe $27/person - Includes beef intestines, cabbage, leek, tofu, burdock, and sesame, chili sauce on the side. “The food was good. But I was sad to not have a lot of the rare parts mentioned in the nytimes and older reviews like the ovary with inlaid egg and the rooster crown. The rarity was what I was really looking for at this kind of price point. Chicken belly skin was one of my favorite yakitoris of the night. Seeing the cooking done over the grill was amazing. It was also a nice and lively atmosphere unlike other omakases establishment, which I enjoyed.“

“I just cannot get over how good the katsu is. The chicken katsu curry has to be my favorite in the city by far and has been since they opened. It's hard for me to find time to go here, but it's such a genuinely rewarding meal, and i'm happy to sacrifice the place being open daily for the love and time that seems to go into everything there, from the in-house food to the curation of snacks and drinks. The portion is absolutely enormous, bigger than any ive had anywhere here or abroad, and the quality is astonishing. It's just so good.Cool shirts too :)“

“Came here for my birthday dinner because I love all things Japanese cuisine and Omakase by Korami did not disappoint! Service, food, and drinks were phenomenal. I did feel a little rushed though so be aware this is only an hour dine in experience. The restaurant is small and there is only counter service Available so you can see the chefs prepare the food right in front of you. Friendly atmosphere with so many delicious and fresh nigiri. My favs: catfish, salmon, bluefin tuna w caviar. Melted in my mouth, soo fresh and so much flavor. Loved! We enjoyed our meal over Dassai 39 sake and I was excited to get a tuna hand roll birthday surprise with a candle in it. Super sweet from the chefs and it was such a great birthday dinner.“

They primarily blend Japanese and French culinary elements to create an out-of-the-box and unforgettable dining experience.In 2023, due to disputes between the owner and the former chef, resulting in the departure of the ex-chef, they were removed from the Michelin three-star list, sparking considerable attention and comments from diners. From my recent dining experience at the restaurant, their removal from the Michelin three-star list does not imply that they no longer meet the standards of a Michelin three-star restaurant. Rather, it's because they are now operating as a "new restaurant" after reorganizing their chef team, which should be in a "grade pending" status. Personally, I feel that in the 2024 Michelin ratings, they have a very high chance of regaining Michelin star status, even if not immediately returning to three stars.Overall, this restaurant is highly suitable for diners interested in tasting fusion cuisine that blends elements from around the world, as well as for chefs in the food industry seeking new ideas. Additionally, the restaurant's service is excellent, even among fine dining establishments, as the staff seamlessly combine professionalism and friendliness. The dining environment in the restaurant is also excellent. Whether enjoying food preparation at the bar or having a more intimate dining experience at a table, both options provide a great experience.Here are some highlights of the restaurant's strengths:1. The seafood dishes at the restaurant are outstanding, with subtle seasoning that highlights the natural flavors of the seafood. However, the waffle seems too soft and cannot effectively hold the uni; I almost dropped the uni while eating. While each seafood dish has excellent flavor, the seasoning and presentation seem somewhat repetitive, giving a sense of redundancy. Perhaps experimenting with more diverse elements and variations would be beneficial.4. The restaurant does not offer bread, a common feature in many European restaurants. Although bread may not be particularly expensive, I believe it is an essential part of French and many European restaurant cuisines. With bread, diners can dip it into the soup, creating a special dining experience and balancing the flavors of some heavier dishes.In conclusion, it was a very enjoyable dining experience. I hope the restaurant regains its Michelin star status in 2024 and continues to explore the path of fusion cuisine, breaking through the limitations of traditional rating systems and textbooks, and continuing to be a representative of New York cuisine and a unique restaurant in the world.“

“Love this place! The sushi is so fresh and tasty. And reasonably priced. Free green tea pudding with Yelp check in! The pudding is topped with a spoonful of sweetened red beans. A delicious dessert! My favorite is salmon and here, it's melt in your mouth fresh and yummy. My favorite dish here is the Salmon Lover. It's salmon four ways plus a side of kani salad with some roe on top. Thick generous portions of sashimi, also has sushi, salmon avocado roll, and a grilled salmon collar (when available, otherwise you get 2 pieces of salmon belly). This place is so good, in one week, I went 3 times and still not tired of it. Not crazy about the chicken kaarage. The pieces are too small so when fried, it becomes dry and loses its juicy tenderness. Tried some skewers. A tad on the dry side. I'd stick with the sushi. Though the skewers were very popular with the kids at the table. Service. Attentive. Tea constantly being refilled. Decor. It's a small place. Lots of wood decor. The space is narrow with seating to the left and right. In front, a few private mini booth rooms covered with a curtain, line the side of the restaurant. These can seat up to 4 people. There is also a small party room downstairs. In the back, you can sit in front of the sushi chefs if you like, at a high counter.“

“I came here on a Friday night at about 7pm. (It also happened to be during lent, so I think it was even busier in the kitchen than usual) They have three tables with two chairs. Very casual. It seems to be more of a takeout spot My friend and I split the Sushi & Sashimi Premium- 15pc of Sashimi & 10pc Sushi - $60.00 It came out in like 10 minutes of ordering. The sushi was very fresh and had great taste. It was not enough for two people and we should've ordered more, but that's personal preference.“

“The food here was absolutely delicious, the service was great, and the ambience was cool (including the music). I lived in Japan for a few years and really couldn't find good agedashi tofu anywhere - but the agedashi tofu here was so so good. I would go again just for the agedashi tofu. We also had the beef nabe, okonomiyaki, ddukboki, and yakisoba - all of the dishes were superb.“

“My friends treated me and my wife to dinner here as an engagement present. We all had a wonderful time and thought the food was top notch. On top of the fresh fish and impeccable presentations, I really appreciated that Don was so accommodating to dietary restrictions. Many restaurants serving omakase are unwilling to make changes. “Omakase is pretty good for the price. Most of their fish are fresh and flavors are good. Their cod, uni, and scallop were great. Their amberjack appetizer was not as fresh. I suspect most restaurants try to mask their less fresh items with sauce and other flavors and put it up as an appetizer. Atmosphere was crowded and noisy. Service was fast, taking away our plates before we were even done chewing. Didn't mind it too much but it did feel a little rushed.“

“We celebrated my friend’s birthday here, the staff is definitely 10/10, very cool Chef who has been making sushi for 20+ years, IMAX who is the coolest bartender and made such a beautiful unicorn drink for us, and birthday Mochi on the house.Also shout out to the beautiful hostess Beatrice and Ray who made the whole dining experience super special. ❤️❤️❤️Would definitely come back and celebrate special memories with my friends here.“

“Has such a yummy and pleasant omakase experience in Astoria on a week night, thanks to That Place. The restaurant is so beautifully decorated and clean. The host/server was so attentive and sweet during the entire 1.5hr experience - my water/tea was refilled almost automatically after every sip. Same is also included in the omakase pricing which is really nice for drinkers ! The chefs worked together and created really delicious pieces- every one was super yummy. Their matcha ice cream and cheesecake were also so good ! Overall, was such a great experience and will definitely be back again for a weeknight or weekend dinner.“

“Pros: Good food! After a few visits we tried all of the small plates and rolls on the menu and everything was delicious. Fun cocktails. Cozy and comfortable. (Try to get seated on the perimeter of the space, the tables in the center of the room can feel a little claustrophobic.) Fairly priced. Cons: Uneven service. On two separate visits, the server forgot my drink. The server on our last visit was downright surly; she really seemed like she did not want to be there at all and spent most of the evening ignoring us. And, also during our last visit, we almost turned around and left because it looked like the place was closed. It was dusk, all the lights and signage were turned off, tables and chairs were stacked out front and a large pile of cardboard recycling was waiting to be picked up. I only saw that there were lights and people in the back of the space when I was out front.“

“I took my almost 4 year old here for lunch recently and we had the best time! The fish was so fresh and the hand rolls were stuffed full! Very affordable given the quality of sushi. Truly some of the best sushi I’ve had in a long time. John took care of us and he couldn’t have been more gracious and sweet. “BBF was recommended by my Japanese colleague and they said it’s really authentic with outstanding flavor. We were craving for Japanese Bento so we decided to give it a try.There were also pastries available but we are not into Japanese pastries. We had their Katsu Sando and Burger Steak to share. The Katsu was fried perfectly but the toast was a little dry. I preferred the juicy and flavorful burger steak.“

“I was visiting from Florida to see family and we decided to come here for my birthday. I haven’t been back since Chef David left and I was a bit nervous of coming back but I went for it anyways, all I can say is WOW! “We had a phenomenal omakase dinner. Pretty much all the dishes were fantastic, from start to finish. A special shout-out to the salmon nigiri with foie gras and the kobe beef nigiri, truly delicious. The sake chosen for the pairing was also very enjoyable, I would recommend that. Overall, a great experience, 5 stars with no hesitation whatsoever.“

“You feel welcome once you step into this place. Service is top notch. 12 course dishes are all with very fresh ingredients and very delicious. I would say their Modern Kaiseki is very good even compare to those you find in Tokyo or Osaka. Last, if you are into Sake, you have to try their pairing and the staff their are very knowledgeable on what they pick.“

“I was intrigued by the concept of this restaurant and I am so glad I tried it out. They hit it out the park with home run flavors and tastes. It’s a tiny little place in Williamsburg that’s worth visiting. Every dish was delicious. Their Spring Jew Egg, the Okonomiyaki, Grilled Caesar Salad and the Sake Kasu Challah were amazing starters that we shared. The Matzoh Ball Ramen was flavorful and perfect with their soy marinated egg. Yummy!! For dessert we had their banana bread pudding and their Japanese Sweet Potato Cheesecake. Just so good!!! Staff was amazingly good!! I highly recommend Shalom Japan!!“

“Ordered delivery via Seamless, the food arrived hot and the amount was overflowing in the boxes. Definitely surprised us. Ask for extra teriyaki sauce because it makes it taste so good. The shumai was delicious. I think it would be better to either eat there and order for pick up because my only issue was the fees on the app. Definitely recommend this place and would be ordering more in the future and also telling friends and family to check them out“
