Clayton Farms Salads 2435 Grand Ave, Ames Salad • $

“I liked it. I ordered my salad in a wrap with the berry smoothie. Yes, I paid $13 for 2 items, but it was fresh, no salt or additives. Sugar came from natural food. I enjoy fast food, but my doctor has discussed with me the cons of consuming processed meals. If I replace at least HALF of my take out choices with something like this (and it DID taste very good) I will see healthier results. I also like not wasting food, sustainable packaging and selectable options. After eating I did not get sleepy as other togo meals do to me, but instead had more energy. Simplicity is my goal so I'll definitely drive thru again.”

“Only 2 servers but those guys were moving! A little wait but it gave us time to really look at the menu, so much to choose from. My husband had pancakes and I had the Cluck Click Skillet with the side of biscuits and gravy. The food was excellent, my sunny side up eggs were perfection and absolutely the best biscuits and gravy I've had forever. We'll be back tomorrow.”

Pizza Pit 207 Welch Ave Suite 201, Ames Pizza • $

“I've read several reviews that the interior of the restaurant needs an update because it is "so 1980s" so let me put my vote in that I like it that way and I have since I was a student at ISU actually in the 1980s. The nostalgia of many wonderful meals in a place that is recognizable is a great comfort. Now the Pizza is my favorite in the entire world. There are definitely better places in the world but no one has had a kind enough heart to point them out to me. I'm also enough of a pizza heretic to enjoy pineapple on my meat lovers pizza. I did burn my chin on a hot slice there 40 years ago. So glad I kept coming.”

London Underground 212 Main St, Ames Bar • $

“Step into the London Underground and get ready for a vibe that's classic London pub with a twist. This spot is all about the whiskey and handmade drinks, catering to those who appreciate a quality pour. Now, here's the deal – they've got $1 Gin and Tonics. Yep, you heard that right. It's no wonder the place is buzzing with college crowds and locals looking for a good time without breaking the bank.We swung by on a Thursday night, around 9 pm, and surprisingly scored a table for six without any hassle. Despite the crowd, it had that laid-back atmosphere we all dig.And let me tell you about the drinks. We kicked back with some seriously good Old Fashioneds with the family, soaking in that authentic London pub feel.We were hyped for the Absinthe night coming up, especially since it coincided with my wife's birthday bash. But, unfortunately, plans fell through. That's life, I guess.Overall, if you're after that classic London pub experience with a modern twist, the London Underground is the spot to hit up.Parking: Parking is in the street and shared with other bars and businesses.Wheelchair accessibility: Not really an accessible joint for the wheelchair bound.”

“This was a splurge meal for someone who is low sodium. It was very well worth it!! They choose the Buffalo on a thin crust. It was delicious and just as expected! We also got The Prairie Special on the Idaho crust. This was our favorite crust! Great flavor and texture! The toppings were a different combo than I had tried before, but I greatly enjoyed them. One of our "meat only" members thought it was their favorite of our 3.The last pizza was all meat except shrimp and chicken on the Denver thick crust with honey. The crust was ok. We normally always get thin crusts, but our sons requested one that wasn't thin crust. The 3 that ate it said it was OK. 2 tried it with the honey, liked it more thinking of it as a crusty bread. I think their opinions on the crust are more about the personal preference/used to thin crust. We got it based on the website, saying it was the most popular. We would personally not get this crust again. I would be interested in trying the oat if we get a thick crust next time. There is nothing wrong with this crust type, just not our preference.Dietary restrictions: We had gluten-free, grain-free people in our group. (The dairy light and low salt people choose to enjoy this meal as a special exception)We ordered 3 different crusts. The Idaho for those with restrictions. We actually felt that was the best of the 3 crusts we ordered. They say it isn't fully gluten-free because it is made in the same kitchen. We don't have anyone with celiac, so I can't speak on how it would affect that. But we didn't have any issues with it. Drive-Thru Restaurants

“First time visiting. The fries are different ? but good! My order was fresh, hot and juicy! We followed it up with cement shakes and omg! It hit the spot! The weight scale even showed me how much I liked it the next morning though...SO BE MINDFUL IF YOU'RE WATCHING YOUR CALORIES AND FOOD CHOICES. The atmosphere was very retro and I Loved it! I most definitely will be returning....BUT it is extremely expensive. So make sure you got your plastic pass ? or that paper cause your gonna need it there! Just way too much goodness, to NOT wanna try something new. The restaurant was pretty clean too (I didn't use the restroom though). My only complaint, would be the NO HAIR NETS granted they had on hats or visors. One young lady had a visor hat and some extremely long hair in a ponytail halfway down her back still.....so some advice I'd offer is wear a hair net WITH your hat if your hair is THAT long. However, outside of that.....I enjoyed myself and so did my kids. Thank you ❤️”

The staff went out of their way to make the process as easy as possible, allowed me to pick up before they opened, and they even provided 2 sets of condiments. The best part…..they did that without me asking. When I ordered the staff explained the boxes and I said two would be great, so I have one for the bride suite and one for the groom suite. They went out of their way to make sure it was perfect and it was!!”

The store is small but the service is great and they made all of our sandwiches correct the first time (even with many modifications requested). “Food is always good. Not necessarily the fastest Jimmy John’s around, but the folks there do try their best (and if you’re gonna complain about waiting at Jimmy John’s, try sitting in the Duff ave McDonald’s at rush hour. You’ll stop complaining real fast). Ordering ahead on the app usually means it’s almost always ready when you get there, unlike a lot of restaurants in the area that wait for you to get there before they’ll start (looking at you, pancheros). Also 6/5 stars for the Jurassic drive through window.”

“It is a little pricey but the food is amazing!!! When you order online the order is correct, hot and ready by the time you want it to be!!!! The one thing that I appreciated the most is when I did the online order I didn't have to use my credit card. I was able to pay with cash or use a gift card when I got to the store. Most online ordering you have to pay with a credit card first before they even take your order. When I arrived the food was hot and ready and it was hassle-free which I appreciated!Parking: They were pretty busy but there was still lots of spots open and available.Kid-friendliness: Right when you walk into the building they have high chairs, colors and activities for the kids to keep them content why you're waiting on food to arrive. Unless you do the buffet and then they literally just take your drink order and you go straight to the buffet. Which is great in case you have impatient children lol.”

“My actual score would be 3 1/2. I’ve been here multiple times and I can say tgat there are up sides and down sides. The good thing is that the food is always good. It’s amazing. The downside would be if they have the food you came for. Several times they didn’t have steamed rice. So much so that I stopped coming for a bit and went to a different one whenever my mom is in town. But since it is on campus, it makes sense. Today, I got the steamed rice and amazing food. I also got a drink and I have to say that the drink was the downside. I’ve onky ever gotten a drink here once before and I remember it being subpar. I am a huge fan of rootbeer. Not only did I dump the rootbeer cuz it was unusually light in color, i also ended up throwing away the whole cup of Dr. pepper. I didn’t have time to check it cuz I had a bus to catch, which I ended up missing, so I just trusted it would be okay. It was also low on syrup. I would say that the staff is friendly and the food is always amazing and you really just need to know the busy hours if you want to get through quickly. The only downside is something is always lacking/missing, rather it be the sides, entrees, or drinks. It’s because of this that I give it my rating.”

There isn't a large selection of food items but I've liked the soup of the day when I have had it. The coffee shop itself is cute and usually it's a pretty quiet place to get work done.

“This place has been around for years but for some reason my wife and I have never got around to trying it. Now that we are not dining indoors because of Covid, we decided to try their takeout service. (They don't deliver, and it's not on Doordash.) I'd give it a 3.5, which I'll round up to 4. The young woman who took my phone order was pleasant and efficient, and the order, when we got it, was completely accurate. My wife wanted to try the Tuscan chicken but when I attempted to order that over the phone, was told they don't do that meal on takeout. So, after a hurried conversation with my wife, she ordered the cod parmesan with cheesy risotto instead. I got the chicken parmesan. Both meals were pretty good but neither was memorable. The portions were large, giving each of us a leftover meal. (My wife is somewhat leery of leftover seafood meals; she says if the food isn't fresh the leftovers can be "fishy", but she says her leftover cod tasted fine.) Each entree came with a salad, a roll, and what appeared to be a garlic breadstick. The salad dressings (creamy garlic parmesan for me, ranch for my wife) were both excellent, and the bread was quite good as well. This may be a case where the side stuff actually tasted better than the main meal. Bottom line: a decent meal, but probably not good enough to get us to drive clear across town for takeout again. It's too bad the restaurant doesn't offer outdoor seating in the warm months, or provide delivery.”

“Everytime I have eaten here the food has been alright I don't like the tofu, but that's my preference. Sometimes the salsa is hot and I get that. Sometimes I make food at home too spicy and have to redo. The only difference is I am not a company selling it to consumers. Understanding humans are not perfect why complain about things when they don't go your way? I see too many comments here complaining about what they did wrong, but nothing about what they've done right. If you don't like the food or customer service than eat somewhere else. As a regular customer it saddens me to see such volgurness come fromthis community. I've seen people come in while i was ordering and start yelling at the cashier or people spilling soda on the floor and not cleaning it and an employee is getting chewed out because a college student was inconsiderate. Take care of your community and it will do the same in turn. Your negative reviews are a means to getting free food or reembursment Sometimes a last word.
