“Having lived in Astoria almost 20 years, I've had the pleasure of dining on delicious Greek cuisine, and Taste of Gyro is one of, if not the best Greek food I've tasted. The chicken souvlaki platter has THE MOST flavorful, juicy chicken with incredible fries (that are spiced and cooked to perfection). The Branzini special I had was served with an incredible tomato based sauce that was unlike any I've tasted and out of this world delicious. Be sure to try the zucchini fritters that are fresh, succulent, and served with astounding tzatziki.Add to this, the most down to earth, friendly, and welcoming staff in a neat, clean, and quiet mom and pop environment, and you've got a place that keeps me coming back. It's just a 5 minute walk off of Ditmars and Steinway, on a quiet residential neighborhood and worth the trip. Do yourself a favor, and delight in the taste sensations they provide, and support hard working folks who put their heart and soul into everything that comes out of the kitchen.“
“I was eying this place ever since moving into the neighborhood and I finally visited when family came into town. The place held up to my expectations I can see why it is always busy. The staff is friendly, we did not wait for a table, and everything was served in good time. For food we did steak, salmon, lemon potatoes, and calamari, everything was so so good and the portions were big. I will definitely be coming back“
“Had a 'dinner' of appetizers here with the family. Something for everyone-from the vegan, the vegetarian, to the carnivores. We enjoyed the fava beans dish, loved the liver and sweet reads, and the meatballs. Atmosphere was quiet, and the spot is small, so for a larger group-we we're 5 people, I'd make a reservation. Food came out super fast, and the staff was very friendly. Next time we will try the dishes.“
“The venue is beautifully done. All the staff was attentive and pleasant. We had greek sausage, manouri wrapped in phyllo with honey& sesame seeds to start. The swordfish and mignon kebabs were perfect!!! And the yogurt with vissino(sour cherry) spoon sweets was the perfect way to end the meal. :-)“
“Nisi's atmosphere is immaculate--all white interior and the sounds of beautiful Greek music. The service was great too and they were helpful to tell us that the lemon potatoes are vegan! Menu clearly marked to show vegetarian options. The horiatiki salad and the fresh galaktoboureko were my personal favorites. Food on the pricier end, but then again, it's a whole lot cheaper than a flight to Greece...Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options available, but somewhat limited to mezzes (appetizers)“
“The food is great. The falafel is a vibrant green, very delicious and certainly one of the best. The cashier was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu and dietary restrictions. I’m a vegan. The cook , who I believe was Kimo himself, was also very friendly, even with the fedex guy. Great atmosphere, good vibes. I’ll definitely come back to this neighborhood staple. Thanks again.Vegetarian options: falafel, rice, salad, pita, hummus, lots of veggiesDietary restrictions: vegan/vegetarian“
“Had a gathering today w approx 30 family and friends, the food from start to finish was beyond SUPERB, they truly deserve Zagat rating. The fried calamari was better than Greece stated by my sister in law who was there in September, antipasto, appetizers, fish, chicken kabob on skewers were tremendous we couldn't get enough we were licking our fingers. I personally would rate them at 10, the owner Jenny is a gem. Will be back to try their grilled Octopus.Parking: Private parking lot in back of building, not a long walk if you know how to park at least 20 cars.“
“The hospitality here was amazing and the food was cooked quickly and very well. You choose your seafood, pay and get a table. They’ll bring the items, and you tell them how you want everything cooked. We brought our own wine and were offered a bucket of ice to put it in, and they always checked our table to clear empty plates or see if we needed anything else. You can pay with card but I’d suggest bringing cash for tip.“
“I went last weekend with my mom. Between us, we had the grilled pita with hummus and tzatziki, fried calamari, moussaka, and a kebab gyro.Their calamari are huge. I thought maybe as a result they would be rubbery but they were great. What stood out was the service. At one point, the waiter comes over to fill out glasses back up with water (which he did diligently throughout our meal) and my mom had literally had one sip and he still went out of his way to refill her glass. The atmosphere was real nice. We will be back.“
“This restaurant is a MUST!!! Forget Taverna Kyclades. This Greek restaurant has an amazing menu. The food has been consistently delicious. The service has seriously been the best of any restaurant I’ve gone to. You feel like family after just one visit. ❤️“
“I was looking for a shawarma nearby, Google showed this place with a good rating. It turned out to be 12 for the chicken shawarma. The taste is about 4 points. I ate much tastier, but it's okay, it'll go when I'm hungry ?Parking: Paid Parking lot“
“My absolute favorite Greek restaurant! They have several locations, but I like the one in Bayside the best because I find it's not as crowded as the other ones. The parking here can be a little tough but there is a municipal parking lot about 3 short blocks away and you can also take public transportation there, it is about a block away from the Bayside Long Island Railroad station. Try their steak its my favorite, but I also recommend the octopus, and their fish is always fresh and delicious, but you really can't go wrong with anything you get here. This place is always super clean, the service is always great and they pour a great drink. Now, this is an edited review from my original because i just had to mention Arif, who is the general manager. When you meet Arif you will understand why this place is so great. The guy makes you feel like family and makes sure you have a top-notch experience. Well done, Arif. What else can you ask for! My advice to you is stop reading this review and get your a** over there! Enjoy!!Parking: There is a municipal parking lot about 3 blocks away“
“Very tasty food in a casual, “taverna” settingVegetarian options: Greek cuisine has a lot of salads,Vegetarian spreads, and vegetarian options (such as spinach pies and fried zucchini)Wheelchair accessibility: There is a wheelchair ramp at a second, accessible entrance“
“Service is a little slow, but outside of Astoria Plaka is a well-managed family restaurant with good food. We ordered chicken noodle soup, spinach pie, and a chicken souvlaki platter with lemon potatoes. You can't go wrong with that. Perhaps we might come back?“
“THE FOOD THERE WAS CHEFS KISS!!! The French fries there was soooo good, the best fries I ever had in my life! The pita bread and the dip was the best combination. For some reason the soda there was, also the best sprite I ever had! I am definitely coming back here with my family again!“
“This is a small little diner in Astoria, New York. great lunches salad and lunch specials. I've eaten here numerous. This is a place that I always call my go to place for lunch if you have the opportunity. Stop in large portions, good food.“
“Had a birthday celebration for a party of 8. The reservation, table and service was excellent. Highly recommend it. Be prepared to order the minute your waiter comes by as it gets quite busy and it may take a while to get your entrees.Vegetarian options: Grilled tomatoes are delicious“
“Emily was our server and she was beyond excellent! She gave us time and had suggestions. It felt like we knew her after only a few minutes. We started with a dozen oysters then We had the porterhouse for two and shelled king crab legsMelt in your mouth, eye rolling delicious!Parking: There was no parking. Valet was ideal“
“Everything about this place is top notch! Came here for bottomless brunch on a Saturday afternoon in February. I ordered the strapatsada and my friend ordered the burger. We both loved our dishes, I rarely order a dish without meat but it was perfect. I’m also not a fan of home fries, but these were perfect- very crunchy. The service was great and we added the bottomless option. The champagne and sangria was top notch. It’s rare to find bottomless brunch with quality drinks such as these. We sat outside, there wasn’t any wait. The inside is very cozy and modern. The waitress was great- highly recommended brunch place. I look forward to returning.“
“Spot where the o.g Greeks hang outside every morning having Greek coffee and a koulouri talking to one another in typical Greek fashion nice pastry's and spinach pies as well as cheese pies meat pies etc also make the best frappes true neighborhood greek Kafenio in the heart of Astoria long live this gem God bless“
“Went here for an anniversary and had the best time! Everything was amazing! We had the Chef's Mezze Experience and it was definitely worth it because of the great food and variety of Greek dishes! We went for dinner on a warmer night in March and sat in their covered outdoor area. The ambiance made us feel like we were having dinner on a warm greek summer. They had olive trees and white tables which made it feel nice and bright. It requires at least 2 people to participate and it was definitely more than enough food to make the both of us full! We started with a greek salad, 5 spreads and some beets and olives. The pita was soft and warm and our favorite dip was the whipped feta with red peppers, but this experience allowed m to try things like a salted and cured roe dip which I surprisingly enjoyed. We then had multiple dishes consisting of fries, grilled octopus, different sausages, and hen. The grilled octopus and hen was perfectly cooked and our favorites. The drinks are also really good and I appreciate their large variety of greek wines along with multiple organic choices. The service here is also really amazing. They are helpful through the menu if you are not familiar with all of the dishes. They realized we were celebrating something provided us shots of ouzo on the house. A really nice, unexpected surprise. Absolutely coming back to try their brunch on a sunny day!“
“I ordered a very large delivery for an office luncheon. My coworkers are very difficult to please, and they all loved this food. The delivery driver was named Thanasis and he was the best. He called ahead of time and asked if we needed anything to keep the food warm. Then he set up all of the food for us and even gave us some tips on the best way to eat the food. Definitely will be ordering again.“
“Love this place!!!!!!! I had Jimmy and his crew cater a major party we had with over 75 people and their stuff was a hit. Their spinach and cheese pies were amazing and the various desserts they catered were beyond delicious. Jimmy was awesome to deal with, I told him how many people we were having, he helped me with my order to make sure we had enough for everyone and not one thing was left over. Love dealing with people who do the right thing.“
“According to my friend who lives here, Greek is the way to go when you're in astoria. So we ordered some gyros and other delicious bites from Frankys and I was not disappointed. I got the beef suvlaki plate and omg the meat was so flavorful and freshly grilled you could still taste the smoke from the fire. The white sauce was great and veggies were fresh. I'd definitely make this spot a regular stop if I lived here“
“Step into the delightful world of Vidtory Sweet Shop at 21-69 Steinway Street! This charming establishment is a haven for those with a sweet tooth, offering an array of delectable treats that are sure to satisfy any craving. From intricately decorated cakes to melt-in-your-mouth pastries, every bite is a taste of perfection. The welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff add to the overall experience, making it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a sweet escape in New York City.“
“While researching places to visit, I noted a neighborly quality about the @souvlakilady in her interviews online. This observation proved to be more true than I anticipated. As I caught a glimpse of her cart parked alongside the road, my mouth began to water at the prospect of my first taste of streetside souvlaki. Unfortunately, my excitement quickly dwindled when I realized she only accepted cash as payment. While standing in utter defeat, I was sincerely touched when she decided to disregard my lack of cash and provide me a skewer at no cost. Let me tell you...it was sublime! Prior to that moment, I couldn't imagine a simple stick of pork could improve much beyond what I make at home, but I was wrong. So grateful for my first experience with Greek generosity and hospitality - ευχαριστώ, @souvlakilady!“
“We've been hosting events and gatherings here since they first opened their doors. Always a great experience. We've also hosted smaller meals with dignitaries and professionals from Greece for years who always compliment the place and agree that it's a perfect little taste of home here in the heart of Queens.Vegetarian options: There are salads, spreads and other vegetarian options.Kid-friendliness: Everyone is welcome here. It's a nice place to host family and friends as well as more formal activities.Wheelchair accessibility: Everything is on one floor and bathrooms are wide enough for the chairs/walkers, so it's convenient for anyone.“
“Delivery for an office lunch - everyone was so satisfied and happy. They were out of one meat and called me as soon as the order was placed to ensure a substitute would be okay. They were very helpful and friendly. Big portions, everything delicious. Will be a repeat customer for sure.“
“The food was delicious. The absolute best. I initially went there for my son to get a quick bite to eat. I tried a little of his food. And had to go back to get the entire family dinner from there. It was our 1st time there. I'm from Brooklyn and is willing to go back just for the food and great customer service. 10 out of 10 we'll be back again!!!!“
“I’ve gone here a few times with family for birthday celebrations; it’s my sister in law’s fave place for a gathering. The staff is very attentive and friendly, you get great service. The food is delicious - omg the zucchini chips, their dip (hummus and tzatziki sauce) and pita bread platter, calamari and sauce, their grilled shrimp, veggies, even salad is amazing! The whole family and children tend to eat very well when we come here! Would highly recommend. They even had a live jazz singer with band playing this past Saturday when we went. Overall great ambiance, esp for the family.“
“Great place to eat! Nice setting and accommodating staff. Never really tried anything here that I didn't enjoy. The variety of seafood appetizers are always good. We usually lean towards their fish entrees because they're very good, as well. The side dishes, particularly the spinach rice, are tasty too. Can't go wrong if you're looking for a nice night out to dine.“
“First time here this place was amazing very authentic felt right at home wish they had one in New JerseySeemed to be a greek family running this place and you can definitely tell the difference they take pride in what they are sellingPrice was very fairI recommend eating beee and will come back“
“Enjoyed their unique menu. For the loukoumades, I got classic flavor. It was slightly oily for me, and the dough had a sour taste like sour dough which was interesting. If you don’t like it, you might have to choose a flavor that is strong to cover it. For classic, the sourness was kinda clear.I had the Freddy cappuccino drink which was amazing tho! Coffee was a little bit too bitter for me, but the foamed milk on the top, almost like cream, was impressive.“
“Best Gyros I’ve had. I literally ate at this place after a 130+ Fahrenheit Fever and ate chicken, lamb & beef Gyros for 3 days which nursed me back to health.Gyros so good it brought me back to life after almost dying from a 130+ Fahrenheit fever“
“Their service is top tier and their pizza even better! We came here today to pick up a slice and they did not disappoint. When you ask for extra cheese and pepperoni, you mean EXTRA cheese and pepperoni. And extra crispy ... the ratio of cheese and sauce was perfection. This place has definitely become my new go to for pizza when I'm on Steinway street and for $13 for everything even more.“
“Came here for my birthday with my family. It was pretty empty and it was a very cold night, so I expected that! The atmosphere was cozy and modern. The service was good, although the waiter forgot I wanted grilled scallops instead of fried she made up for it with a dessert on the house, but we ordered more dessert! They only offer wine and beer— no cocktails. The food we had was very tasty and not over seasoned with salt, just right. We also had calamari, not pictured; nor the dessert of baklava. Get here early to find a park or take another form of transportation!Parking: Very hard to find parking - take another form of transportation.“
“My friends and I came in on a Sunday evening for dinner and we were greeted by Rob who was the kindest and most delightful server ever. All of our meals were well cooked, balanced, and delicious. We came in with an appetite and dug in without taking photos of our dishes but they were all a 10/10. Highly recommend! For reference, we ordered the pita spread as a starter and had the Greek salad with grilled chicken, stuffed chicken with vegetables, and the lamb chops with lemon potatoes as our entree selection and ended the night with Maria’s award winning Blueberry Baklava which in our opinions needs more awards. Do yourself a favor and go eat here!!!“
“This is our favorite Greek restaurant. We enjoy coming here for a casual meal. It is bright and friendly. The food is delicious and the portions are very generous. We can relax and feel at home while enjoying a delicious meal. Everything we've had has been outstanding.“
“Food is phenomenal, you can tell the owner made sure to maintain the authenticity of the Greek cuisine and flavor. I highly recommend this for new and avid Greek food goers. My entire experience was pleasant and I am definitely going back there again, best Greek spot in the island!“
“Excellent. Everything i've tried has been outstanding. I've only ever ordered delivery so i cannot comment on the physical space but whatever they're doing in the kitchen is perfect. And super nice on the phone once too. I hope Vernon Grille keeps doing what it's doing and doesn't change a thing.“
“I retired after 32 yrs with the USPS & know basically every eating establishment in Astoria, Ny. Hands down , I give this Taverna more than 5 stars. Their lamb & potatoes amazing. The lamb is like butter, comes off the bone. Excellent Sangria, the best I’ve tasted so far. The flavor & taste is off the hook. Doesn’t need any fruit at all. Definitely going again with my family on a regular basis !“
“It’s a truck not a restaurant.Feta fries is my favorite here!!!On the picture my hubby dinner for tonight chicken gyro platter it’s huge he got a lot. Thanks guys! My son got the gyro he love it I had no chance to take a picture… next time the boys will try the souvlaki.Fresh, smells sooo good I love the seasonings!“
“Huge portions and not complaining!! Some Greek Food restaurants try to cut costs and give smaller portions lately. I am glad Fontana did not follow this trend and stuck to the fact that Greeks love to feed people . My food tasted great and I was happy I had more to take home. The salad was super fresh and the Greek sausage tastes amazing. Awesome homemade tzatziki and Pita was delicious. Excellent service! You cannot go wrong coming here!“
“My absolute favorite Greek restaurant in the USA, let alone Astoria. The food in Athens, Greece is nothing compared to Taverna Kyclades! Fresh fish, delicious salads, cheeses, octopus, taramousalata, are yummy! Every time we go back to NYC, we stop in.“
