“This place is highly popular but for a reason -- wonderful dining experience in Astoria! The bronzino, octopus, and Greek salad were incredibly flavorful and fresh. The bread with olive spread was also spectacular. The restaurant has a lovely interior reminiscent of Greece and excellent service“
“Great seafood, including 2 different types of calamari and constantly rotating specials. Highly recommend eating family style so you can get a taste of everything. If possible sit inside the main building and not the addition, as it can get drafty.“
“Having lived in Astoria almost 20 years, I've had the pleasure of dining on delicious Greek cuisine, and Taste of Gyro is one of, if not the best Greek food I've tasted. The chicken souvlaki platter has THE MOST flavorful, juicy chicken with incredible fries (that are spiced and cooked to perfection). The Branzini special I had was served with an incredible tomato based sauce that was unlike any I've tasted and out of this world delicious. Be sure to try the zucchini fritters that are fresh, succulent, and served with astounding tzatziki.Add to this, the most down to earth, friendly, and welcoming staff in a neat, clean, and quiet mom and pop environment, and you've got a place that keeps me coming back. It's just a 5 minute walk off of Ditmars and Steinway, on a quiet residential neighborhood and worth the trip. Do yourself a favor, and delight in the taste sensations they provide, and support hard working folks who put their heart and soul into everything that comes out of the kitchen.“
“So delicious. Super low key place, no frills. Came on a random Tuesday and while the place was somewhat empty, it was super cozy and inviting. Got the grilled octopus and souvlaki chicken plate with fries and salad. Staff was nice too and at the end of the meal we got a tiny piece of cake dessert that would pair well with coffee. Would definitely come back.“
“Wow! We absolutely loved this place! The food is fresh to order and so tasty, and the service was just spectacular. We had the spinach pie and moussaka that were so good and took dessert to go, and we can't wait to have it for breakfast! Very friendly and fun atmosphere. Don't miss!“
“Nisi's atmosphere is immaculate--all white interior and the sounds of beautiful Greek music. The service was great too and they were helpful to tell us that the lemon potatoes are vegan! Menu clearly marked to show vegetarian options. The horiatiki salad and the fresh galaktoboureko were my personal favorites. Food on the pricier end, but then again, it's a whole lot cheaper than a flight to Greece...Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options available, but somewhat limited to mezzes (appetizers)“
“Awesome brunch. Wait is really long on the weekend however and they only do walk-ins. Food came out slow and service left something to be desired but food mostly made up for it. I'd definitely try and come here more often if I lived closer and it wasn't as busy!“
“The food is great. The falafel is a vibrant green, very delicious and certainly one of the best. The cashier was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu and dietary restrictions. I’m a vegan. The cook , who I believe was Kimo himself, was also very friendly, even with the fedex guy. Great atmosphere, good vibes. I’ll definitely come back to this neighborhood staple. Thanks again.Vegetarian options: falafel, rice, salad, pita, hummus, lots of veggiesDietary restrictions: vegan/vegetarian“
“Had a gathering today w approx 30 family and friends, the food from start to finish was beyond SUPERB, they truly deserve Zagat rating. The fried calamari was better than Greece stated by my sister in law who was there in September, antipasto, appetizers, fish, chicken kabob on skewers were tremendous we couldn't get enough we were licking our fingers. I personally would rate them at 10, the owner Jenny is a gem. Will be back to try their grilled Octopus.Parking: Private parking lot in back of building, not a long walk if you know how to park at least 20 cars.“
“This is one of my favorite spots for Greek food in Astoria and loved getting the chance to experience it for Valentine's Day. Amylos was offering a set 5 course menu and being a foodie, I loved tasting all of it. The ambiance was also amazing, filled with balloons everywhere and the soft scent of roses lingering in the air. A romantic spot made even more so for the occasion. Highly recommend.“
“We had an excellent meal. The lamb kabobs were delicious with just the right amount of spice. The brussel sprouts were a stand-out! Our only complaint was that the drinks could be a little more generous. Our server was excellent; very attentive and friendly and made some adjustments for us with no problem.“
“I’ve been trying new restaurants this entire week and this is one of the one so far, everything is just so good and tasty. Literally everything I ate was good. I trates my boyfriend to dinner for his birthday, we got 3 appetizers, 2 entrees, and dessert for $117 total. Pretty small place, there’s always a wait even with a reservation, very nice host, bring your own bottle as well so you can drink whatever you want while eating. I will definitely be coming to this restaurant again soon, I want to try everything on the menu because everything I have so far was just so good.Pita bread w spread: 8.6/10.Saganaki (fried cheese): 8.8/10.Octapodi Sharas (grilled octopus): 9/10.Paidakia (lamb chops & fries): 8.5/10.Greek-Style mille feuille dessert 10/10“
“Brought my grandparents for dinner while they were in town visiting and we had the most lovely time! Beautiful decor, delicious food, and an amazing cocktail and wine list. The octopus is incredible, one of my favorite dishes here. Jordan and Sierra were so kind! My boyfriend and I enjoy sitting at the bar for a cocktail to end our night as we live so close. It's the perfect place for family dinners or a date night.“
“The service and food are always a hit!! I have been coming here for a few years, and Herb and Olive attracts the best customers! I end up having the friendliest conversations with such beautiful people! The salmon with rice and spinach is my favorite!Thank you!!!“
“This restaurant is a MUST!!! Forget Taverna Kyclades. This Greek restaurant has an amazing menu. The food has been consistently delicious. The service has seriously been the best of any restaurant I’ve gone to. You feel like family after just one visit. ❤️“
“It's really delicious and fresh, and the price is affordable. The service is very considerate and comprehensive, so I am willing to tip happily.--------------------------Ordering method and order:-Go to the counter first and get the plastic bag-Take the plastic bag and go to the back to choose ingredients and fish. Yes, no one will care about you at all. You can catch it yourself, and there are no clamps.-Go to the counter and line up to pay first, then tell them how you want to cook, and then he will write your name on the bill-If there are a lot of people and there are no seats, go outside and wait for them to call your name and take a seat.“
“This local spot is amazing!!! Excellent service. Food is great - I highly recommend to have the chicken souvlaki platter. Portions are very filling. You can sit inside or take out and the guys are very welcoming. The sandwiches are also taste!!“
“Went there the other night with a few friends. Service and food was 10/10. Everything came out fast. My friends had the octopus which they loved. I had the lamb chops and a few skewers, also feta Greek fries. Definitely recommend for a traditional Greek food.“
“This is my first time going to RoRo gyro. I ordered the RoRo hero with everything on it. It was so delicious. Also, the hero was put together by someone who cares about what they're doing, not slapped together by someone taking their anger out on it. I highly recommend this place! PS: I didn't go inside so idk anything about the atmosphere.“
“Love this place!!!!!!! I had Jimmy and his crew cater a major party we had with over 75 people and their stuff was a hit. Their spinach and cheese pies were amazing and the various desserts they catered were beyond delicious. Jimmy was awesome to deal with, I told him how many people we were having, he helped me with my order to make sure we had enough for everyone and not one thing was left over. Love dealing with people who do the right thing.“
“classic staple for Greek food in the heart of Astoria, right off the N train ditmars stop...it's fast, hot, fresh authentic Greek food at an affordable price. did you really visit Astoria if you didn't have stamatis at least once???“
“We stopped by for dinner. The food was good, and the service was okay. We ordered the Grilled Octopus and the "Kyclades" special for two. The bread they served as a "free" item was stale. The Grilled Octopus was great! The "Kyclades" special was definitely a great choice, but I can't ignore the fact that they douse it in butter. The same thing goes for the baked potato—way too much butter. If you have to add that much butter to your dish for people to enjoy it, you're not doing it right. The servers were a bit odd, and I do mean more than one. We initially ordered the appetizer and drinks and asked for a couple of minutes to decide on the main course. A different server stopped by a minute later to ask if we were ready to order, so that was a bit off-putting. Maybe they were trying too hard... I don't know. The store manager was nice. He came by our table, introduced himself, and we had a pleasant chat about the food and the dessert drink he offered at no additional cost.Overall, a good choice. We may try their Astoria location next time.“
“An Instagram post got me here.My friends and I came in after work on the last day before break. This is notable because the other groups in here all seemed to be teachers ( we love an after work/pre break hang out). The location is cute and upscale with its lush blue velvet seating and little interesting items behind the bar.We ordered fries that looked like they had some type of seasoning on them but were just plain fries. Friend 1 ordered the chicken sandwich and fries. She enjoyed it. It was served with yummy sauces on the side.Friend 2 ordered the chicken quesadilla. Also enjoyed it. Was a good portion.I had the focaccia grilled cheese with vodka sauce. It was tasty. The 3 pieces didn’t look like much but it was actually filling. It was some type of special/secret menu item. It was delicious. The playlist/sonos set up was hitting. The music was really good and the staff were all friendly and knowledgeable. We asked what we should get and our waiter had OPTIONS! He knew the menu well and all the little off the record stuff that sounded delicious a.For drinks I ordered the mule. My friends had a gold digger and a margarita. The drinks were tasty. They had funky names and interesting ingredient. One of the drinks had air as an ingredient and another was served in a very cute cat cup. They also sent out a round of shots, limonada something, which was delicious as well. The vibe was cute and food and drinks were tasty. I’ll definitely come back.“
“The food here is delicious. It is not a large restaurant, but with a reservation we were seated promptly. They have a lot of wait staff. The food came out quickly and whatever we asked for was promptly provided. It is a wonderful restaurant.“
“This is a small little diner in Astoria, New York. great lunches salad and lunch specials. I've eaten here numerous. This is a place that I always call my go to place for lunch if you have the opportunity. Stop in large portions, good food.“
“The true "when you're here you're family." They gave us complimentary feta and olives and were very accommodating with an infant! The only downside is that the patio heaters do not sufficiently heat up the area. Even with our parkas on it was cold, and we opted to sit outdoors so the bebe wouldn't disrupt indoor guests.Vegetarian options: Most Greek food is vegetarian except for the "large plates." We only ordered small plates and had plenty to eat.Kid-friendliness: There was a family birthday celebration and our infant, they were very accommodating and friendly. Other places often make children feel like an unwelcome burden/nuisance, not these folks!!“
“If I could rate this restaurant ten stars, I would. We had our annual school auction at this restaurant and rented out the restaurant and the event coordinator Olga and the manager Stefano were so accommodating. They were both an absolute pleasure to work with . They both made the event absolutely seamless from beginning to end .The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and their specialty cocktails were a big hit! The venue brought back memories of eating at Mykonos at a fun, trendy, restaurant ( without having to leave the upper east side ).The event was a huge success thanks to Olga, Stefano, and their entire team! I highly recommend this venue for private parties, group dinners, and date nights.Given the number of restaurants to choose from in Manhattan , it's difficult to find one that exceeds expectations in all categories. Anassa Taverna is one of the few that I would recommend!Thank you so much for making our event so memorable ?!“
“According to my friend who lives here, Greek is the way to go when you're in astoria. So we ordered some gyros and other delicious bites from Frankys and I was not disappointed. I got the beef suvlaki plate and omg the meat was so flavorful and freshly grilled you could still taste the smoke from the fire. The white sauce was great and veggies were fresh. I'd definitely make this spot a regular stop if I lived here“
“Emily was our server and she was beyond excellent! She gave us time and had suggestions. It felt like we knew her after only a few minutes. We started with a dozen oysters then We had the porterhouse for two and shelled king crab legsMelt in your mouth, eye rolling delicious!Parking: There was no parking. Valet was ideal“
“Had a birthday celebration for a party of 8. The reservation, table and service was excellent. Highly recommend it. Be prepared to order the minute your waiter comes by as it gets quite busy and it may take a while to get your entrees.Vegetarian options: Grilled tomatoes are delicious“
“I was really craving fresh seafood that was cooked healthy and after researching I stumbled on to this little place in Astoria! BEST Greek food in NYC. Skip the other places all together and set your sights here. Fresh fish, great vegetables, good Greek wine + service that feels like family. Very attentive staff! The wait can seem overwhelming but it goes by fast. The only thing I cringed at was where the food sits and waits for the waiter to pick up. Too many people walk by it in the entry way so it kinda made me nervous about it being exposed! Other than that great food!“
“The food here is amazing! Sissy and I come to do our nails at this fabulous nail salon that she sourced and I found this good eats Gyro location. When I say the food is good it’s a 10! Not salty just fresh and flavorful. It’s a must try! We go there all the way from the Bronx.“
“Warm! Elegant! Great music! Great Greek Tapas options! Awesome bar! Live Jazz Music on Thursdays! Great Happy Hours options on Tapas and drinks! Sweet hosts!Baklava, PannaCotta and double shot espresso is to die for!We are definitely coming back!Wheelchair accessibility: On the ground floor with large doors“
“Service is a little slow, but outside of Astoria Plaka is a well-managed family restaurant with good food. We ordered chicken noodle soup, spinach pie, and a chicken souvlaki platter with lemon potatoes. You can't go wrong with that. Perhaps we might come back?“
“we were a party of six sat at a round table first course was excellent shared by people at table bottle of white wine was a little below average-nothing special. i ordered pasta with lobster last time overwhelmed by amount of lobster. This time the pasta overwhelmed the lobster. In contrast my wife had large grilled shrimp. Probably best she has ever eaten in a restaurant sorry I didn't order other people seemed satisfied with food. the Baklava was outstanding. disappointed that no Greek coffee offered.“
“Wow I’m so excited that I found out Spartans reopened for breakfast ?, I brought my kids to breakfast and I don’t regret it . They have Belgium waffles my favorite ? ❤️? . I love their coffee it’s so good. My daughter loved their fresh muffins which are to die for. This is going to be the spot from now on for breakfast ???. Great customer service gentlemen in front was nice and respectful food was delish and prices were great ?“
“The food was excellent, Greek, the souvlaki were not exactly on a stick but had a very Greek taste. I liked it, similar to in Europe. The prices are higher, which I found surprising, that they call chicken gyros a kebab. I wonder how the Greeks feel about it, as it seems strange to me too.“
“Yummy Greek food that doesn’t break the bank. Everything I’ve had here is delicious. Food serving size is good and you leave feeling well fed! Service can be a little slow sometimes, but overall everyone is very friendly :) I recommend!“
“Very authentic and delicious Greek food. The staff is very friendly, quick und attentive. When my 14 month old dropped his fork we were directly given a new one (also after that happened 3x times ?). We had the Big Meat Platter and boy it it's huge. We would have been able to feed 6 adults with what we had. We will definitely come back. Great value for money and just such a great place to go toParking: Free street parking along the road.Kid-friendliness: Very very kid friendly.Highchairs availableNot sure if there was a changing station in the restroom though.“
“I ordered a very large delivery for an office luncheon. My coworkers are very difficult to please, and they all loved this food. The delivery driver was named Thanasis and he was the best. He called ahead of time and asked if we needed anything to keep the food warm. Then he set up all of the food for us and even gave us some tips on the best way to eat the food. Definitely will be ordering again.“
“The person who served us was so nice. The food was made fresh. We had the pita sandwich and they were great with warm pitas. We had the eggplant dip and the pita was also warm and tasty. Then we had their small donuts and they were freshly fried and hot, crunchy and soft in all the night ways. This place is great. I wish them great success.“
“Noise level was set at high this afternoon, but necessary to match the level of music blasting from all sides. It was hard to converse. The food quality is great, as always. My only hard point are the janky chairs. They look like furniture that barely survived an apocalypse.“
“The restaurant is in a low traffic area and seems to do decent with takeout. I haven't seen anyone sit down yet each time I went. Restaurant looks pretty clean and full of space. The folk working here are pretty nice. Portion sizes are either lunch or dinner size for your platters. Even the lunch size is a good size portion enough for one person. The dinner size is enough for two people. When we ordered the lunch size for gyro, we had a choice of either a salad or a soup for the first side which is separate from the gyro and there is a second side that goes along with the gyro, so you can pick one of the following fries, rice, lemon potatoes or grilled vegetables. The container is filled about 80% full with grilled pita. When we ordered the dinner size for gyro, its the same as lunch but you can pick two of the sides that go along the gyro. This is effectively filling your container all the way to the top at 100% filled with grilled pita. Recently it appears they increased this to up to three sides, but I imagine they will just reduce the portion size of each side if you pick three but would still fill the container full. The Greek salad is good and the soups we tried were also good. The gyros and chicken souvlaki were on point.“
“One more good Greek breakfast spot at a small "coffee " shop under the El at Ditmars Blvd. Around the corner from a Dunkin' on 23rd Avenue. Ordered a decent sized spanikopita. When no bougatsa was available cause it wasn't ready yet the owner recommended portokalopita. Then on impulse I bought a Greek sesame bread ring. The spanikopita was good. The portokalopita which I never tasted in my life was very good. It wasn't as "orangey " in taste as I thought it would be. The portokalopita was like a cross between galaktoboureko and baklava with citrus being the dominant flavor. The sesame bread ring which is called Koulouria Thessalonikis is like a bagel with feta inside the ring. This shop is worth checking out and has been a neighborhood staple for 26 years.“
“Everything about this place is top notch! Came here for bottomless brunch on a Saturday afternoon in February. I ordered the strapatsada and my friend ordered the burger. We both loved our dishes, I rarely order a dish without meat but it was perfect. I’m also not a fan of home fries, but these were perfect- very crunchy. The service was great and we added the bottomless option. The champagne and sangria was top notch. It’s rare to find bottomless brunch with quality drinks such as these. We sat outside, there wasn’t any wait. The inside is very cozy and modern. The waitress was great- highly recommended brunch place. I look forward to returning.“
“Ordered the veggie burrito bowl. A great option for vegetarians, vegans and people looking for gluten free options just tell them to hold the sour crème. The bowl basically has grilled veggies like eggplant, squash, tomatoes etc over a bed of yellow rice. It comes over a tortilla wrap however you can tell them to exclude or just not eat it. In times where you’re hungry and need a full meal this hits the spot. Great flavors, fresh ingredients and made to order. My favorite place for a Mexican style veggie bowl.“
“Delicious and fresh! Easy ordering on online and delivery was fantastic. Can’t wait to try everything on the menu. Gluten free options were perfect!Dietary restrictions: Loved the gluten free options. Maybe try to offer a gf pita option would be my only suggestion. But their non gf pitas were the best we have ever had.“
“Phyllis and I (Monica) love love love our breakfast time at the New Three Star ⭐⭐ ⭐ Diner Excellent service and even more excellent food bright clean space for us to enjoy our girl talk there is even a grab and go for those heading to the nearby train heading to work Everyone stop by and see for yourself!!!! Thank you Three Star for staying in the area (formally Kouras Diner) on Nostrand Ave where we also enjoyed our breakfast and girl talks Dinner and lunch menu also highly recommended great job guys!!!“
“First time trying a Greek restaurant. Our waiter made our experience super memorable; delicious food, great atmosphere, and live music. Our waiter made us feel so welcome and even gave us on the house mojitosWe got the Pastichio and Spinach Pie and they definitely did not disappoint, can’t forget about the lemon potatoes. They also gave us complementary pita bread and tzatziki which were both super yummy! It was our first time eating Greek food and Laterna made us want to try more. Definitely a great find in Bayside.“
“I’ve tried a lot of Indian restaurants but this is the best so far. The food is bursting with flavor and they give you a good amount. My favorite dishes so far are the chicken biryani, chicken tikka and garlic naan. The mango lassi is refreshing, cool and tasty. Even my 11 month old baby likes it. I can’t wait to try the other foods. The staff is kind as well.“
